    I gotta say Larry hit the nail on the head with this. My first handgun was a Sig Sauer SP2022, I have no problems picking up my P226 or a Beretta M9 and running it efficiently. I have a Sig Sauer Emperor 1911 I ran that one for a few months before buying a P320 and Glock 19x I was proficient with those since I got them. The bolt action is to be expected only differences between most on the market are the bolt throw angles. I have multiple pump action shotguns you’ve ran one you’ve pretty much ran them all. The AK style of firearms is something I’m lacking in because I don’t have experience with one yet. Solid video and 100% accurate good job Larry.

    His goal was to suggest 5 guns that, by owning them, you'd establish a foundation of skills that would serve you best to easily branch off into many guns -and I don't think he's wrong. I'd say the K98k could be substituted for other Mauser derivatives like a M48 Yugo Mauser and others, but I agree it should be there. The only other thing; I agree with the 870 but only an older-production one. Remington's modern quality control doesn't give me confidence to recommend purchasing a new one, go for an old school 870 when they were made better. Great vid, I like the premise and the list is straight to the point.

    • @GuitaristOnDaRoof
      @GuitaristOnDaRoof Před 5 lety +12

      Mr2ndAmendment I think it was implied that a Mauser derivative is ok. For every other gun he literally says a gun like this is ok. Obviously we can’t get a Colt M4a1, and literally said you don’t have to get a Russian Tula AKM.

    • @666thornton
      @666thornton Před 5 lety +3

      Police/gov surplus 870s are cheap on top of high quality too. Personally I prefer Mossbergs but next time I come across an old 870 that lived in a police cruiser for a few decades I'll add it to the collection. Last cruiser 12 gauge I picked up was an early run High Standard, nothing fancy but the smoothest pump action I ever had.

    • @austincosman6026
      @austincosman6026 Před 5 lety +4

      If your scared to get an 870 because of Remington’s WC, just get a Mossberg 500

    • @mccglastron1972
      @mccglastron1972 Před 4 lety

      You don't need an old Remington 870 if you want that style (as opposed to Mossberg 500). Check out the Chinese 870 clone IAC Hawk 982 (there may be others), generally review consensus was they were an exact clone and made to better quality then the "poor" quality 870's.

    Love this video. I was an AR-15/M16A1 guy for a couple of decades of my life in the US Army. Now I am an AK-74 guy. Why you ask? Let me tell you. An AR is like a scalpel for performing very precise surgery and it does a fantastic job while it is sharp. When a scalpel gets dull it doesn't cut so well. An AK is a lot like a hatchet...when it gets dull you swing it harder and you can still perform an amputation with no problem. That's why I am now an AK guy. Keep these videos coming Larry!

      I understand the purpose here and don’t disagree with his picks. My comment on Facebook was that I wouldn’t start with this rubric - I would start with weapon capabilities/cartridges. A serious gun guy “should” have these, but most folks I know are still in build-a-basic-armory mode. For me that looks like: AR in 5.56, Shield 9mm, 500/590 or 870, G30, 308 Battle Rifle of choice. There are other ways to do this depending on circumstances.

    • @MrDanielWP
      @MrDanielWP Před 6 lety

      Don't need a mauser for familiarity with bolt guns. Any Remmington 700-based rifle will do that. Having both an M9 and M1911 is redundant - pick a different type of pistol over one of the two, as in one that doesn't use an external hammer, like a Glock, or has something fundamentally different and is widely used, like a CZ.

      I'm so fucking tire of the .22 worshipers. Anything a 10/22 can do an AR can do better. 5.56 stops fragmenting past ~200 yards so if you need to shoot a squirrel and don't want it to explode back the fuck up. Unlike a 10/22, an AR can be used to hunt deer and decent sized game in a pinch. Most people would struggle to make accurate hits with a 10/22 past 100 yards, unlike an AR which can make accurate hits well past 400 yards with the proper ammo.
      To each their own. If the shit ever hits the fan I'll have a ton of fun shitting on fanny pack wearing 10/22 wielders. My weapon of choice is my SCAR 17. Twenty rounds of .308 as fast as you can pull the trigger, with accuracy that enables consistent 800 yard hits with a scope.

      Brazilian Luke I would say AR-10, but, that's restricted here in Canada. Though there is the BLC 102 which is non-restricted ( look up are firearm categories). What's funny one of the most popular battle rifles in Canada is the Norinco m305 which is banned to be important in u.s. They're popular semi-automatic hunting rifles if you can bear the weight.

    • @KB9813
      @KB9813 Před 6 lety +1

      I AM ALIVE !!!!! Has the same flexibility as the AR-15. They're still being produced unlike most other battle rifles hence larger availability of parts and accessories and decent pricing. I look at u.s. gun sites with envy as the cheapest AR-10 I've seen is 700 bucks not to mention probably building one is cheaper. Here in Canada cheapest option we have is the Norinco m305 however, they are priced at $650-750 but, quality control suffers due that cheap price (over indexed barrels, excessive headspace for 308, really cheap op-rod spring and guide. $70 fixs that through. The op-rod guide itself can be loose, improper shimming on the gas system. Thats is an easy fix if the buggers haven't weld it the flash hider on. Which they do with many of the rifles). Other 308 battle rifles in Canada that you can use for hunting and out in the woods is the new BLC-102 (AR-102, early AR-10) which is in pre-sale only right now and is showing it's signs of only being recently developed, M1A, Sig 542, and the XCR-M. Those are our options. They're all $1,500 and above....

I think your point is much more pertinent, make sure you understand the manual of arms of the base operating platforms, that way you can pretty much use most firearms you come across even if you have not see it before, and I totally agree with this approach. Great video thanks for taking the time to put it together.

      Sure the M1A is good, but it's essentially the same operating system as the mini 14 except it shoots 308 instead of 223. The reason why I chose the mini 14 was because it was in 223 and the Mauser was more in the power class of 308 already. There essentially needed to be a 223 replacement for the AR15 and that's where the mini 14 comes in for restrictive states.

    These guns are good to own especially when learning to shoot, but the guns you really are going to need in a bad situation are...
    A good long range gun-7mm rem mag, 300 rem mag, 7mm Weatherby mag (if you live like me in the western USA where the ranges may be extra long, if you live where the possible ranges are shorter a 308 win, 270win, 250 savage would be fine).
    A good semiauto pistol-1911 colt, glock 17 (like any glock really), Beretta P9 etc. (personally I like 10mm)
    A reliable revolver with a longer cartridge (better velocity-more punch then your semiauto)-S&W 629 (or an saa if you know how to shoot one ;) in either 357 or 44 mag.

I don't own a Barretta, never was a fan, but own SEVERAL Colt 1911's and one Springfield RO model I use for USPSA Limited 10 division, Sig Sauers including the new M-17 which I like a lot, along with the P226, P320 R1, P320 X-5 Competition (also for 3-Gun), 7 AR platforms one in 7.62 (Sig 716), and two .300blk builds. Even have one Smith & Wesson M19 .357 mag. I have a few bolt action rifles, including the Mauser, and for the $$$$ the Ruger Precision .308 is a LOT of gun, put a Leupold scope on it, VERY accurate. I'm with you, remove one of the handguns and replace it with a 308 battle rifle and keep the shotgun as the wild card. I don't think the WWII bolt gun would be my pick for the bolt action rifle for this concept, it's probably what he had on hand. The Remington 700 has got to be just as prolific by now and would be a more up-to-date choice, they both work the same after all.

      By them doing so at a young age it made me typically shoot right handed however I can shoot just as good left handed, At times I'll hold a pistol in each hand and alternate shots from left to right at 2 different targets irregardless of caliber, It also helped when Boxing Golden glove champions and I had no boxing experience/just street fighting, They couldn't understand my versatility and thats why most Professional boxers that are naturally right handed train to be left handed as a left hander in boxing ring is use to boxing right handers whereas right handers are not use to boxing left handers and puts them at a disadvantage during defense/guard as it leaves you wide open to be slugged

    My choices, in order: (although I thought these were fantastic).
    1. AR-15 (preferably 5.56) 12.5 to 16" barrel
    2. Glock 19
    3. Any good tube-fed pump or semi 12 or 20 gauge
    4. Semi-auto .22 (10-22 or M&P 15-22)
    5. Semi-auto or bolt action .308 set up for long distance
    Wild Card: Semi-auto .22 handgun

    Hey well I'm not going to disagree with Larry, total expert in his field, man really knows his stuff. If I may add Beretta m9 is most definitely one of the best looking handguns on the planet , so iconic .
