*Romeo and Juliet* is a tragedy of the romantic type. Double-suicide in the face of an insurmountable enemy is a story as old as... well, whenever that was written, and then up to today. It's not that suicide is romantic per se, but more that the suicide itself, in this context, is romanticized, as she had a terminal illness and- according to media portrayal- would form a pact with him so that they wouldn't have to live without one another.

I can’t imagine stabbing an ex even, let alone a partner I loved. But if I were to do something that brutal and wretched, I’m certain the moment I realised what I had done, I would want to hurt myself even more. On an island where someone being caught with crumbs of cannabis or getting a speeding ticket or a garden gnome being stolen can be reported on and make the papers the information on this was basically limited to circulating rumours.
That being said most people seemed to understand that this was a murder that was being downplayed and swept under the rug to maintain the islands long standing low to no murder rate. The main selling point of the island is being quiet and safe. Can’t let a little murder get in the way of that. 😅

“ACTOR Douglas Henshall admits hit TV show Shetland has turned the island into a murder capital - despite it being one of the safest places to live
Around a dozen deaths rocked the first three seasons and that number could be up to 15 by the end of the upcoming fourth instalment.
That would give the Shetland Islands a murder rate of 68.2 per 100,000 people - putting it 11th on the world’s most deadly places list.
In contrast, the real islands have only had two murders in the last 50 years.”
“Chief Inspector Lindsay Tulloch, Police Scotland area commander for Shetland, said: “We are fortunate that we don’t have to deal with serious violent crime to the extent that DI Jimmy Perez and his colleagues do in the show. In reality Shetland is an extremely safe place to live, work and visit with generally low levels of crime.”
TL;DR - The show titled ‘Shetland’ is a crime drama that shows a lot of murders taking place on the island, however this is not reflective of the actual murder rate on the island. Hope this clears everything up!

As someone who has lived with Bipolar disorder for years, I can say that I see some big characteristic bipolar symptoms being described in this guy's story. When you got towards the end when you said that he had amitriptyline in his system, and the comment he allegedly told their guests "it's a good night for a killing" right before they left.
This got me to consider the possibility that he was an undiagnosed Bipolar patient who was pushed into an extreme bout of mania. Fully Manic Bipolar people can be incredibly dangerous to themselves and others depending on how severe of an episode it is. The reason I bring up severity is that Amitriptyline is an older tricyclic antidepressant, psychiatrists would NEVER give an actually diagnosed bipolar person tricyclic antidepressants as they have been known to chemically induce mania if not paired with a mood stabilizer like lithium.
Besides the antidepressants, bipolar people often become more prone to severe mood swings when under a lot of stress and isolation (he was basically isolated from everyone but his wife from the sounds of it). If this was the case it would certainly fit.
Granted, I am not one to typically jump to an insanity root cause, because while people with mood disorders can be dangerous in some circumstances they more often than not are not dangerous most of the time and if they are it is usually only to themselves. When you have a set of circumstances like the ones described here with potentially added chemical triggers to encourage such an episode and I could totally believe it if he was having a severe bout of mania. Severe bouts of mania can include hallucinations and paranoid delusions.
As someone who has experienced those symptoms, I hate to inform you that people can do all sorts of things that would otherwise seem utterly impossible as if they were on drugs when it's really just their brain essentially frying itself.

I agree completely. I too have Bipolar and was misdiagnosed for years. Being on antidepressants only, they really really messed up my brain. My manic stages would be extreme, even compared to now when I’m on mood stabilizers.
The fact that he was sober doesn’t mean he couldn’t mutilate himself. Often in manic states you don’t feel any pain, or at least I didn’t in the times I was on antidepressants. I would go to extremes with self harm and not even realize how bad it was until I came out of the mania.
The isolation and only taking care of Mandy(not at all saying it was her fault) instead of being able to be creative and work on art most likely put him into those thoughts of “I should just kill myself” and “well I don’t want to leave Mandy and our pets” and it was probably stewing for quite a while. That night when he said “it’s a night for killing” he probably was right on the edge, and then perhaps something irritated him and that was the end. I wouldn’t say it was premeditated, but I feel like it was definitely stewing, and ended up a heat of the moment.
Plus it’s not often that murderers will kill family pets. I see that as him seeing them as their children and killing them too so they don’t have to live without Mandy and him.
I love the video, as I do all Nexpo videos, but I genuinely believe this was Harry’s doing by undiagnosed Bipolar disorder.

I think people are underestimating the stress caring for a sick loved one causes. Especially when it's a sickness that'll never go away, having to face the fact that you have to care for someone for the rest of their/your life with no way out. You have to simultaneously deal with the fact that you and them will never have the nice easy life you probably dreamed of, that there's all these things that you won't be able to do or experience together, while also struggling with caring for them full time. That combined with already existing mental struggles could absolutely make someone snap. As someone who has seen others go through it and experienced it a bit myself I can honestly see him finally reaching a breaking point, I don't think it means he was evil but just not getting the help/support he needed.
But I can't imagine what it mustve felt like for Amanda, to have to be dealing with this horrible life changing disease with no real way to get better while also stuck watching someone you love lose themselves more and more, not being able to get away and being stuck like that must've been excruciating. I really feel bad for her in all this, she was already suffering and to go out this way is horrible.

The way they did facial animations and most importantly the way NPCs stand around before talking to them or approaching you is so creepy man. You should check this game out in your free time

Only ppl ignorant to mental health issues, and what your brain is actually capable of would make such a statement.
Im a nurse that worked several years in a psych hospital.
When a person is truly insane - truly out of their gd mind they are more than capable of acts such as these.
Ive seen ppl in psychosis and delusional do some crazy wild sh*t that most ppl could never even imagine to be possible.
Most ppl are just to scared to admit that our brains are very much capable of turning on us, and I totally understand why some ppl choose to stay in denial on this fact.
Because it IS f'n terrifying to think about what our brains can make us think that's not real, make us see thats not real, make us believe thats not real.
Its terrifying. And the fact is....any one of us are capable of snapping, having a mental break, going insane, losing touch with reality, whatever you choose to call it - we are ALL capable of it if life circumstances hit us just right, get hit with big stresses, big losses, and horrific traumas - our mental strength is only so strong, get hit with enough and our brains shut down, pretty much turning on us.
I personally feel he had lived his life with untreated mental illness, after hearing ppls descriptions of him, and his fits of rage.
      Then he lost his dog.
Then his wife that he truly did love, she got a horrible diagnosis, and he was faced with the fact she was going to d*e soon.
And the man couldn't take any more, and he snapped.
When out of your mind, true clinical insanity - you could stab yourself 47 times because your brain isnt receiving and sending signals for you to feel pain.
You could mutilate yourself because again...your not feeling it, and he*l he might not have been aware of what he was doing - psychosis, delusions, hallucinations.....he could've been mutilating his genitals, but he was seeing himself carve a f'n turkey!
And when it came to attacking his wife - at that moment he may not have seen his wife. He might have seen someone completely different, and been hearing things not really being said.
A lot of ppl that have done this once stabilized, medicated, and in their right minds....they'd say that when attacking the person they saw satan, a demon, or a complete stranger that was hurling threats.
Once they are medicated, and back sane - they are often horrified to know what they did, and are truly remorseful.
That's why ppl that are deemed truly insane get away with murder.
Because its not really them committing the acts.
Its like your brain decides it wants to be in charge instead of the body, and it takes over making the person see, hear, feel, and think things that are not real.
But anyway....i commented a really long explanation of how the brain can go nuts, cause a person to do such things, and why i feel he did do it. Its long, but if your interested in a more in depth explanation its there.

They would have made a huge mess even if they cleaned up at the scene. They would have left prints. If they left the premises, they would have trailed blood. It would have gotten into their rental car, been left at the hotel. The hotel staff would have certainly given them a second look if they came in looking like they swam in spaghetti-o's.
