Hello, great to see people getting outside and trying to learn how to fish. If I can make a couple suggestions that might help you out better. First Ill start off with Mr Nev. Sir, you are holding the rod upside down. The type of reel you have is meant to face downward and you should be reeling in turning your wrist forward, not backward. Next is the type of weight you are using. The type of weight you are using is for a technique called "Plunking". Basically with that weight you just want to leave your rod in the water and not touch it until a fish bites the line. You dont want that for the Nisqually. Thats better used on really large river systems like the Columbia. My next suggestion is to switch up your gear and try float fishing with a bobber and jig or using a spinner like a Blue Fox or Meps. Thats probably the easiest way to get started. After you learn how to do those 2 techniques then you can switch it up and learn how to float a corkie and yarn. Now I understand reading all this might sound like a total mess but I would suggest you watch a few "Addicted Fishing" videos on CZcams. Look up Addicted fishing how to catch salmon and they will show you everything I just mentioned.

Your set up is is to much lighten your
gear get rid of the big ugly sticks tuna rids and pick up some 8'6 to 9'4
Medium heavy action fishing rods okumo SS decent and affordable rids 30 lb main and 20 pound fluorocarbon leader 5 to 8 foot in length
Run 1/2 to 3/4 Oz Canon ball or 1" length of 1/8th inch solid core pencil lead
And run size 12 or 10 Lil corky's with size
      1 or 2 owner hooks
If fishing faster rapid type of water you want to use 3 to 4 ft leader slower deeper water with less no rapids but moving water run 5 to 7-1/2 ft leader
When drifting yarn or corky you want your weight to tap the river bottom every 2 to 3 feet and when fishing a drift that's new I always step back and watch the drift from tail to middle to top for 20 or so minutes and you will learn alot doing
First thing you don't have to cast all the way to the other side of the body of water
I always start with casting over half way across and make 5 or more cast then add 2 to 3 feet farther out make or more drifts then and just keep doing that
If there is grass are tree structures always play it safe cast 1 to 2 feet short of that stuff big rocks are usually safe to
Cast and land right up against them but sometimes there will be a few snags
When I drift tight to rocks and and wood structures I always let my sinker tap tap then lift my rod tip up so I pick my sinker up and let the rod tip down naturally and tap tap lift lower tap tap lift this will keep your line in the water more and my way of thinking is every second your line is not in the water fish are going by so try to get into a rhythm cast drift reel up cast drift reel up the and when your reeling up yo cast always look at your sinker and swivel and knots and corky or yarn and hook so if your reeling up and your sinker comes up inline with the tip of your rod and your corky and hook are
Inline with your sinker no reason to stop reel up and cast and drift
And if you don't feel any fish when work the drift you are fishing take 1 to 3 ateps up or down river of the drift your doing you will be surprised how many times you will pick fish up just moving up or down river a couple of steps
And if you are fishing a river you don't know much about and you see some old timers fish always strike a conversation up with them and ask them questions
They 90% of the time they will give you
The Intel on how to fish and where to fish and every so often they have treats
      Like homemade jigs and lures
And document stream flow weather and colors
