- What's with the floating straps? Who had the most impressive dresses? And why were so many celebrities in underwhelming gowns?! What happened to the Oscars this year? The Academy Awards are usually our most elevated, elegant and powerful fashion moment of the year. The awards season this far has set the bar incredibly low, however, and evidently the designers & celebrities got the memo. We were missing many a "wow" moment, with less drama than we're used to. However, there were a handful of truly spectacular designs gracing the red carpet, some innovative yet unwelcome floating straps & more duvets! This Special Fashion Edition reviews the entire red carpet display from the Academy Awards, and is organized by designer for the most part. I may be in the minority here, but I’m getting tired of the thigh slits. Regina King’s dress would have looked much better as a column dress without the slit.

I don’t even know who 90% of these people are. But I’m always amazed how little sense of style these (presumably rich) people have. If they fluke a good dress they invariably ruin it with the wrong hair or accessories (or lack of them).
@@opalruby13 😂😂 same... And I always think wow, with all their money, which, I'm sure if they can afford to be there, they have throw away income... How come they don't run it by SOMEONE... An assistant, hair, make up person, agent, someone?! Hell, even a 2nd or 3rd yr fashion student would probably love an awards gig, throw them the credit to use on their resume and a couple hundred bucks, lol. Like come onnnn... I was surprised Beebs didn't point out the lady in the long gold dress.... With the glaring BELLY BUTTON showing through her dress, like not even her Plus 1 or husband didn't notice that?! 😂😂 I literally live in jeans these days and I could have helped a few of these people out lol!

NO respect for those who chose to back Balenciaga. Balenciaga chose a foul marketing campaign - child sexploitation. It should NOT be swept under the rug which is what the stars opting to wear their B dresses are doing. Are they sell-outs or are they proponents of abuse? Issa Rae's dress - nope! Billie Eilish - not for glitzy award shows. Emilie Blunt who usually looks gorgeous is wearing a rendition of a muscle shirt and tighty whiteys.
Agree. Billie Eilish looked like a Japanese schoolgirl. Not for the Oscars sweetie. If she wanted to cover her body that’s fine, but there are plenty of evening alternatives.

They're not at all flattering.
They look rigid, like a suit of armour.
And they serve no purpose whatsoever. They in no way function as a strap, so why have them?
At least the top is staying up and not hanging off the boobs with double sticky tape. But, the straps are odd.

Great review and I agree with so many of your comments. The Rock, though, looked like a Hot Mess. Loved the color and the flash of burgundy, but I absolutely could not get past the wrinkles - YIKES!!

I don't think anyone could possibly ever top Princess Katherine's 007 premiere look. Honestly, she looked like a goddess queen. Divine and otherworldly. It doesn't hurt that she behaves and carries herself like one, as well. Can you even imagine how she'll look at coronation?! I can't wait.

Maybe the dress looked better in real life, but in photos it seems a bit tight across the thighs & I can't unsee a triangular shadow at the top of her legs.

The thing that annoyed me was that all these high fashion custom made dresses couldn't even match the patterns at the seams, e.g Jennifer Lawrence and Zendaya's dress! It was all I could see once I noticed it 😢
Oh, yes! If I, as an amateur seamstress can match patterns, those pricey designers sure ought to be able to get that done.

Always looked at it and gave it a little smooch like a dork right before heading off to homeroom. Always started my day off right that way. 😂
I don't like the floating straps either. They just look silly in otherwise beautiful dresses. My favorites were the Dior dress with the extensive embroidery work and the powder blue Armani Privee with the hip feathers. I liked the hip feathers, I think they add to the look in a soft, subtle way.
The men are definitely giving me a 1970s vibe.
Emma Stone's dress was very pretty but didn't think the color was especially flattering to her. Most redheads look great in green but that mint color made her look a bit washed out imo. Zendaya's dress was the best! She looked so beautiful and it fit her like a glove. Also, that necklace that Brittney Snow wore really caught my eye. The stones look like amethysts which looked wonderful with the yellow dress.
I thought it was white and thought it look too wedding. But I like it more that it's a light mint green.

I actually like the flared leg of their trousers. However, I was a teenager in the late 70's when that was fashionable 😂

I'm a boomer. I remember when we didn't watch the Oscars . We probably didn't have the channel if it was televised. The antenna up on the mountain side usually just got one channel. Pictures of the movie stars always showed beautiful clothes.
We had lots of magazines, though.

At least every celebrity TRIED in some sense to get it right even if they missed the mark whether it be hair, jewelry or lack thereof but the Oscars did bring out the best awards season fashions for this awards season.
BTW, have you ever seen a BEIGE gown at any of the awards show this season? Nope! Beige is a non-starter and washes out most skin color out of the realm of wearing!
Once again, thank you for being so detailed as if some were even listening to your critiques this entire season. America Ferrera and Zendaya were striking as were many others. Not as many misses during this Oscar season compared to all the other award shows of 2024.

I think you made a mistake putting Emily Blunt in the the best dressed category. To me, it looks as if they were going with a man's "wife-beater/tidy-whities" theme in a woman's gown. I agree. I wanted to push the shoulder straps down. Why have straps that do nothing? The straps are not holding the dress onto her shoulders, as is a shoulder straps job. Also what’s with the tidey whiteys mens underpants pattern on the dress?

Hi Beebs, These were some of the best dresses I have seen for awhile. I loved Zendaya s gown, America Ferrara, Lupita nyonga, Anya joys scalloped skirt and there were many other stunning dresses. From a fashion perspective cynthia elvira was good but too much to it

When I was a teen we couldn't afford to buy a dress for dances, but my mom sewed. So I would draw what I wanted and we would go pick out fabric and make my dress. Thus morning I introduced her to your channel and we would pause, critique and then see what you had to say. You had no idea, but you had coffee with us this morning, thanks for the laughs!
