- Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Eurovision Reunion 2023
Frankie Goes to Hollywood are an English pop band formed in Liverpool in 1980. They comprise Holly Johnson (vocals), Paul Rutherford (backing vocals), Mark O'Toole (bass), Brian Nash (guitar) and Peter Gill (drums)
As a band, their first 3 singles hit the number 1 spot of the UK Singles Chart.
Due to the provocative lyrics of their first Single "Relax" they were banned by the BBC.
They eventually split in 1987 due to disagreements in the band.
Fans had always hoped for a reunion, but singer Holly Johnson was never interested in regrouping with his old bandmates.
However with the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 being hosted in Liverpool the band agreed to appear and perform for the first time in 36 years.
Here we see their rehearsal and main performance

What an absolute honor it was to be around when these guys were ruling the world..one of the most underrated important band that ever existed. Im 59...thanks so much for great dance music and memories....
I agree, they were amazing. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Recuerdo cuando nos juntábamos en casa de aquel muchacho, alegre,Alfredo, carlos,Roberto, oscar....a escuchar estas rolas de moda, una banda mejor que otra! Salud !!😊
What nonsense you speak .....You need to get out more pal 🤔🤔...one of the most popular and recognisable bands music and unique wise ! Still relevant and inspirational tod record sales and airplay prove that !! Underrated my arse 🤔

Saw them live in ‘85. EPIC.
Great memories to have. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Oh my God…the moment that bass started and Holly started singing…I went straight back to the 80s. That iconic voice hasn’t changed after all that time. Just WOW.
He can still belt out those tunes can't he. Thanks for watching Jay 🙂👍
I’m so glad I found your channel Mick, I have indeed been looking over your videos and they are spot on for me. In 1984 I was 20 and the eighties were just amazing for music. @@micksmusicchannel
Man these guys were good... they still are. That bass player is amazing!
Its a great band for sure. Thanks for watching buddy 🙂👍
To my generation the 50+ year olds, this reunion was magnificent, the kidz of today just won't get it ! These guys were ' big ' back in the day and their music unique, still cherish their albums.. the bass line from ' Two Tribes ' .. Wow ! 🤩
Couldn’t agree with you more mate, year 67 here
Thank you so much, and you are so right. Kids today don't know how significant this reunion was. You really had to have experienced the 80s at the time, and the impact the band made when they burst on the scene. So glad we were there 😀👍
64 here and still listen to them!!
Sooo true!
I'm 57 now and had my album on yesterday. Fabulous then and now.
Wow! Still sound great after all these years! One of their best songs, “Welcome to the Pleasure-dome!”
It's a great track for sure Graham. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
I was 22 in 1984 and going nightclubbing. Loved that era. And what a great group Frankie were and are!
They were great times Dave. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
I was only 15 but still in the boozer and clubs, suppose being 6ft 3 helped out 😂
When the announcer said 'Frankie Goes To Hollywood' I was in disbelief, and in the next moments I had tears in my eyes - it doesn't get bigger than this !
True Dan. I never thought we'd see the day.. so glad it happened 😀👍
It would be so kind to the fans to play say in Liverpool, just one more time..

Stunning. The anthem of the 80s.
Thanks for watching Julian 🙂👍
Very unique sound. Very atmospheric. I miss music like this. 80's was such a special decade for synth pop music.
It really was the best musical decade wasn't it. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
One of the best bass lines ever
Absolutely Derek. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Always loved the superb bass lines in their songs .
The Bass is a real driving force for them isn't it. Thanks so much for watching 🙂👍
Yes fantastic bass especially in two tribes.... Cheers 🍻
I loved the 🎸 riff in intro "Welcome to the Pleasuredom"
@@marcuskeulertz5852 They had some great Bass riffs. Thanks for watching Marcus 🙂👍
this isn't the reunion,THIS IS THE REUNION,welcome back guys, this world needs good music again,😃
And nobody better to shake it up than Frankie. Thanks for watching my friend 😊👍
80s was the best decade for music and these guys were up near the very top ,shame it only lasted 10 yrs .
The 80s are still alive and kicking here 😊 Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Absolute awesome performance on stage, I remember. Unbelievable it is 4 decades ago.
Thank you for watching Henry 🙂👍
Awesome!! Takes me back to my youth (61 now)
Thanks for watching Ashley 🙂👍
your still a youth
Probably the finest band of the era.. two tribes was and still is mind blowing..
I have to agree. Thanks for watching buddy 🙂👍
80s was the best and frankie was brilliant
Mi agree Martin. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Its difficult to exaggerate how brightly they shone at the time
They were definitely a breath of fresh air weren't they. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
This band and their music defined the 1980’s. It’s required listening for anyone who was young then.
You are right Jeffrey and should be required listening for anyone who wasn't around back then 😊👍
Long live frankie..1 of the best debut albums of all time..ageless..that bass line on pleasuredome u cant beat..now 53 and even brought my kids up as frankie fans..beam me back to 84 please
I'll beam back with you at the drop of a hat 😁👍
Being a huge Frankie fan from day one, buying every record they made, seen them live a few times, i was nearly in tears hearing they was reuniting for Eurovision in my town of Liverpool. They was amazing. But one song just teased us even more. Now i and the rest of the world want a full reunion with a full tour and a new album. Show this younger autotuned generation what real music is. From every Frankie fan on the planet, come on lads make it happen.
Couldn't agree more Wayne. I remember the lads bursting on the scene and was gutted the "Liverpool" album was the last.
They've still got it and the energy is still there.
We need a full reunion and new music.. they need to shake up the music scene again 🙂👍
I think the auto tuned generation know exactly what FGTH went through….they didn’t even play on Relax…I’m a huge Frankie fan, saw them live in 84, but the story behind relax and how manufactured it became by the genius of TH is fascinating. Look it up on the produce like a pro youtube channel.
Loved them in the 80s, they still sound great now. This song has such a great base.
Thanks for watching Gillian, the 80s was a decade of talent for sure 🙂💞
Everybody was into Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Metal dudes, pop dudes
They were a great band for sure. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
My too❤
I can go from Slayer to FGTH in a heartbeat 😉😉😉
The power of love that song sends chills what a song that is.
Agreed. That song is also on our Channel 😊👍
I was too young back then to really understand the music, but the bass line burned into my child memory.
It was a great time for music, at least its still here for you to enjoy 😀👍
Still my favourite band of all time. The full length version of pleasure dome was the best track ever produced
It was an epic track wasn't it. The Pleasuredome album was absolutely amazing piece of work 😀👍
Wish they would re unite and tour properly. They've still got it in abundance ❤️
Absolutely agree Sam. It would sell out. Thanks for watching 🙂💞
I remember how fresh and different they sounded to EVERY other band. I used to go on an 8 mile run every day. I had a boombox on my shoulder like some very funky pirate's parrot. To run as the evening grew darker as, the whole time , this album filled my head, was a simple pleasure that - after decades of fighting hardships - hurts me and makes me smile.
I can relate to that. Thanks for watching my friend 🙂👍
I don't think they sound less fresh and different today especially against the background of today's crap considered music.
@@JesusMagicPanties👍👍👍👍👍😊
This would be the biggest reunion tour ever if they did it. Id sell my right arm to see it
I agree Chad. It would have been sold out. 🙂👍
Ohhhhhhhhh.........the old saying "You can't go home again" COULDN'T BE MORE TRUE

Great to be able to look back on those memories. Thanks for watching buddy 🙂👍
Proof again that 80's music is intergenerational and the best music ever made, FGTH were and are now again at the forefront of their music scene, and god do we need bands like this back to play us anthems not computer generated shite.

First band I ever saw live. Me and my mate Daz went to see them in Sheffield in 1985. We were 12. We still go to gigs together now, and for 7 years went to our own as we were in a band.
Great memories to have. Thanks for watching 🙂👍

Absolutely agree with you Wayne. Thanks for watching buddy 🙂👍
Not to mention the drawings. Lol

@@miked3168 Fair point, but funny enough I only just heard a recording of Duran Duran View to a kill demo last night, it sounded terrible because it was unproduced, unpolished, same goes for many bands.
The reunion which can mark the course of music onwards ! Frankie say Let’s do it one more time !! Please guys make it happen ! Devoted 53 years old Frankie fan from Greece
Absolutely agree with you my friend and thanks for watching 🙂👍
They might be getting older but they still have it after all these years. Let’s hope that they start making more music together again
Thanks Ann, I think they were amazing after so long since they split.

And that young people of today, is what music used to sound like….it evokes more memories for me than probably any other song…they were way ahead of their time.

Thanks for watching buddy, they rocked 🙂👍
My God! Its been a long time coming! For this band to get back together! Thank you! 80s ROCK!
They made us wait long enough didn't they 😁

LOVED FGTH, they weren't around for long, compared to other 80's bands, but they made a HUGE impact, with their hard hitting music and controversial lyrics.
Their music has never really aged, it still sounds great today!
I'll agree with that buddy. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
WOW!!!!

Me encantó ver y escuchar este tema en la película "Double body", una de mis primeras películas que vi en el 85 cuando llegue a vivir a Buenos Aires.

My thanks for Trevor Horn who has given this band a absolute great sound in the 80's and later the sacd Rage Hard.
Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Truly fantastic to see them all together again! I remember that VH1 Reunion show years ago and I essentially gave up any hope after Holly basically said it’s never going to happen. They still sound VERY GOOD!
I thought the same thing so was happy to see this happen. Would love to see more from the lads 🙂👍
Holly's still got that amazing voice.

Of the many hundreds of albums I have on vinyl this album is a real pleasure to play. It's just is so welll recorded. When you put this on and let it take you it is breathtaking. The production values were so layered and beautifully conceptualized. Thanks for the video. Johnson at the end of the live reunion looks so blown away by the shear energy and love given by the audience it's palatable: WELCOME!!
Indeed . Brilliant.
I have to agree. The album is as amazing today as it was back then. I never believed we'd see them back on stage together again. They might have only done one song, but it was amazing to see.
Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Absolute legends!!! They defined the 80’s in so many ways, Welcome to the pleasure dome is as fresh today as it was then, it never gets old❤
I think I can absolutely agree with everything you said. Thank you for watching 🙂💞
Thank God everyone is still well.
Thank you for watching 🙂👍
This band were so far ahead of their time it’s unbelievable! The elements of dance music that still sound fresh today , the likes of “ Maximum Joy” sound like they were release last week , such a shame they split as imo “Liverpool” was and is a better album than “pleasuredome” … so how good would albums 3,4 ,5 and 6 been ??? Guess we will never know 🤷♂️ Still one of the best band I have seen live ( GMex Manchester ‘87) and I have seen a LOT of live bands !!! Thankyou for the music FGTH ❤
Thanks for watching PJ. I agree with what you say. Liverpool was a great Album and it's a shame we didn't get to see more from them. 🙂👍
Glad to see that they tore it up. In the 80s there was a concensus that they didnt play live. Even Mick Jagger said they were crap live, after he went to see them. That video is on CZcams.
Certainly doesnt look like that here.
They could always play live. They were playing live before they got a record deal. It was great to see them on stage again wasn't it. Thanks for watching buddy 🙂👍
"Relax" is every bass player's favorite song.

Certainly the best group of the 80s and excellent musicians above all. I never tire of listening to them again.

Very true. It would be amazing to go back to those days. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
They were 1000 years ahead. And still are nowadays. I was blasted off when went to their conecerts back in the days. Blazing meteors but left such a big sign in music. Hear that bass pumping right there in my ears like it was yesterday, hear Holly's voice singing like from a time capsule. This is amazing I want them on tour!!
It would be amazing if they toured again and produced another album. The music still sounds fresh today.

Love these guys. It is a shame they couldn’t find a way to stay together.
It is, I agree. Thanks for watching 🙂 👍
Not sure if they were a great band, but Welcome to the Pleasuredome was an AMAZING album. In addition to the title track and Relax and Two Tribes was the reimagining of War and Born to Run and Do You Know the Way to San Jose !! Such a versatile range of songs and finally, the song my wife and I chose as our wedding song, The Power of Love. All these years later I came to learn that the producer of this amazing "wall of sound" was Trevor Horn !! I was very dismissive of Mr. Horn back in the day as I associated him with his main gig at the time (the Bugles) and I always felt they were a "side show". I had no concept of his production talents and his vocal talents (filling in for Jon Anderson of Yes) !! In any event, it's great to see them reunited even if it was for just this one time. Welcome to the Pleasuredome INDEED DAWGS !!!
It was a great Album for sure James and seeing them back together again was something most thought would never happen.
Thanks for watching 🙂👍
