Imagine getting a Pegasus structure deck back in the day and finding out one of the cards is a counter to a card that hasn't been printed yet.
And that was one of the Super Rare cards in the TCG deck too! What a waste of a shiny. Should have just been one of the toon monsters as one of the Super Rares
that’s called future proofing
I don’t need to imagine. I was there man
It's so weird to me that out of all the cards printed in Yugioh, there's not a single Level 7 or higher Wind normal monster.
theoretically you could use to tribute summon any level 7 or higher normal monster if you're currently under the effect of true king of all calamities and they called wind.
@@GeneralNickles I wouldn't be so sure about that ^^
There is one Match-Winner card that’s a Level Seven Wind Normal Monster, but it’s also a pendulum card, and it’s Match-Winning effect is on the pendulum scale, so there is zero point in normal summoning even if it was legal to play.
General Nickles
True King Of All Calamities only changes the attributes of cards on the field.
I have never noticed it. Not a single one Wind Normal Monster above 6 level? I wonder why.
There is also Gryphon Wing, that weird trap card that negates Harpie's Feather Duster, that was released in Starter Deck Pegasus. I think that came out before the Feather Duster, so it was completely useless
Yeah, that was a pretty terrible card to put in a structure deck. I guess they really wanted players to have the counter to a card they felt was too strong.
@@D-Havoc A card so strong that they printed a counter for it before they printed it.
And it was holo too
@@D-Havoc Even odder was them making it a Super Rare
"What is Zebroid X doing?"
*his best*
I really appreciate that Dzeef's last example was a live one!
Rata said it best. "Schrodinger's Searcher" are when a card specifically lists the option to search a card type of an archetype, which doesn't exist yet. Nekroz Clausolas can be discarded to search a Nekroz Spell or a Trap.
Or Cyberdark Vanillas
I believe Crystron Spells are another of those categories.
When did he say that
You know a sentence is good if it starts with "Rata said it best"
@@thepinkgoblinwhounpluggedy3726 the cyber dark episode of archive.
It's really weird that it took so long to print Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon in the TCG. Not only because you need it to summon shining dragon, but also because it's an iconic anime monster.
The whole time I played Yugioh BEUD didn't exist lol
Pretty sure even the toy of Ultimate Dragon came out before the card did.
there are sooo many iconic anime cards that yet still haven't been printed in the TCG. kairyu shin was only printed in the TCG in 2019!!
@@hippochans thats insane I loved kairyu shin in duelist of the rose's
I didnt even know. For a decade i believed Ultimate Dragon was released in like 2002
I am shocked that Sandwitch was not talked about. Having both its listed material on the ban list seems very noteworthy
How recent is A Wild Monster Appears?
I thought both Sangan and Witch were banned prior to it.
@@polocatfan pretty sure you couldn't, it's a level 6 fusion monster so no instant fusion. Cyber stein, magical scientist, metamorphosis were still banned at the time. They had to errata the fusion material to make sanwitch playable again
@@shawnli4746 actually Magical Scientist wasn’t banned yet when Sanwitch was released, that’s how I summoned Sorcerer of Dark Magic in a crappy spell caster deck back in 2004
@@polocatfan No, you couldn't. "A Wild Monster Appears" only works on Main Deck monsters.
Fun fact: zebroid x can be summoned from the deck by mixeroid's effect because it's a non-wind "roid" monster.
Those combos are getting funky, love it
Ah yes, the non-vehicle non-toy Roid lineup, my favorite oddity in Yugioh and perhaps the reason Archetypes should have symbols and not text.
@@ab-uh1vv That's how they treated the older Archfiend cards that got localized as another name, most famously Summoned Skull.
Lol
Zebroid should have an archetype-exclusion condition.
Trivia: Cyber Saurus was the first single I ever bought, and the first Yugioh card I ever owned. Purchased in 2002. Reminded me of MetalGreymon from Digimon.
Alternative title: "why konami sucks at printing cards in the right order"
Konomi Don't Understand Time
SCP-202
TBF many of the NA issues were under Upper Deck
tbh these mistakes are so severe that its baffling the game still exists today. Like, what kind of quality control is that to print literally unusable product? xD
@@ich3730 it isn't the idea of printing, those cards were printed correctly in the OCG, the importation to the TCG is the problem for some odd reasons.
Actually if you pulled a Cyber Saurus when it was new, you would have a dope-ass cyborg T-Rex with a gatling gun for an arm.
I remember as a kid I had Cyber Saurus and Blast Juggler and looked everywhere for Two-Headed King Rex, never realized the card didn't exist at the time
This is why Blaze Dragon should've been imported on Eternity Code.
Yeah, it bothers me so much. Seems like this problem could've been avoided so easily
The german version of the Shining Dragon took it even further!
The effect states that you have to tribute 1 "Blauäugiger Ultradrache", but the problem was that once they printed the Ultimate Dragon in the TCG the german name was changed to "Blauäugiger Ultimativer Drache". So technically it renders the german Shining Dragon from the movie useless, since there is no card with the name "Blauäugiger Ultradrache" unless people are fine with you to use it on tournaments (not sure why anyone would tho) as it's clear what card is meant.
It's probably covered in the German rulebook, or, assuming it was later re-released, given an erratum.
Seems like something that could easily be fixed by an official ruling. In the English version of the TCG there are at least a few cards that technically shouldn't be playable for the same reason but are because the judges said so.
If we're talking about cards you can't use because of the ban list, then lt's not forget about Sanwitch, the fusion of Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest that came out when both cards were banned.
I remember that one lol
The D/D/D Synchro Promo from the 2016 Megatin was not summonable till the release of the D/D Structure Deck, because its needs a D/D-Tuner.
I saw cyber saurus on the thumbnail and then had to check if it was censored in the tcg. My copy didn't have a colored gun.
May be a just-in-case for CZcams rules or something.
If I can make a request: Reviewing every level 4 Normal Monster with ATK between 1900 & 2000. There is a large list of these guys across different types, attributes, archetypes and time periods of their use. What plays could they be used for and what synergy could they have with generic type/attribute support.
fantastic idea, I’ve often had this thought myself while watching this channel. It would be really interesting to see a “history of” video that goes over the monsters who pushed the envelope up to 1900 (obv including Gemini Elf cuz history)
In the OCG Gemini Elf came out at the same time as mechanical chaser, la Jinn, giant red sea snake and axe raider. All of which were stronger than what was the strongest level 4 monster by atk
Blue Eyes Shining and all the movie pack cards were really cool just barely usable. I think Sorceror of Dark Magic had some play in my locals though back in the day
I really wish the Sphinx had been more playable! They were really cool.
The card seems pretty strong(at least for back then) until you realize jinzo exists. Which is way easier to summon
Always thought Sorcerer was the coolest of the movie cards, with the Sphinx trio coming in close second. All cards I'd have loved more support for.
I had a friend who ran Sorceror of Dark Magic in a casual Pendulum Magician deck. It made a neat tech card.
@@nikraa77 Story of this damn game... All the cooler cards take forever to bring out and all the broken effects got attached to a card that is stupid easy to use 20 years ago and were broken even when the game was slow as molasses. I got Yata-Locked, and let me tell ya... it's a dumb BS thing that it even happened.
Another one was Marincess Battle Ocean. It mentions Crystal Heart but Crystal Heart wasn't released in tcg until after Ocean got its release, although the gap wasn't that long.
Actually making a cybersaurus beatdown deck with mystic mine for the memes in person
Do it, post the deck list when you’re done
Who hurt you as a child?
Yes please!
You. I like you
Can't wait for your decklist man
Forgot the most importatnt one. Elemental hero neo bubbleman! Metamorphosis was banned before it came out lol
Actually, it wasn't. Metamorphosis wasn't banned for a little while after it was released (Metamorphosis banned in September 2007 and Neo Bubbleman was out in 2006). It was useless anyway though.
They need to bring back Metamorphosis for the lols.
In the GX game Spirit Caller you could get the fusion monster Labyrinth Tank but one of its materials wasnt in the game, which i learnt from using action replay.
There was a fusion monster in World Championship 2008 called Dark Balter the Terrible that could only be summoned by instant fusion because both of it's materials weren't in the game, and it requires exact fusion materials. Yet it had a negate effect AND a Battle effect that incentivised you to keep it on the field for longer than a turn. Some of the yugioh games had really bizarre card pools.
Did they use Balter in one of the puzzles? That's usually where the gonzo inclusions come from.
@@TheShinyFeraligatr As far as I aware, as someone who got 99% of the card pool in that game, no. There wasn't a puzzle for it. Like, outside of instant fusion, I really have 0 clue how you'd even get it on field.
@@WyvernKnightBright Metamorphosis could do it. It's not too rare to see that pulled off in modern-day goat format.
@@shuttlecrossing1433 Metamorphosis was banned in that game though. And as far as I'm aware, you couldn't just change the banlist to legitimise it either.
Ayyy I was the one that suggested Cyber Saurus to you! I recently talked about him too in my Metal Raiders Machines Ranked video! Nice to see that lovely artwork!
Meteor black dragon meteor dragon wasn't released over here when meteor black dragon was released
Mystical sheep
Why did they take so damn long with that card?
@@theentity5201 honestly I couldn't tell you
Uhh.....no. We had Meteor Dragon from McDonald's Promos back in 2006. It was even reprinted alongside Meteor Black Dragon's first print in the Premium Collection Tin in 2012.
goyo defender's effect was almost entirely impossible to resolve until master rule 5 came along.
the only way to make it usable was to summon it to a zone a link monster pointed to, then destroy said link monster without destroying defender, and then you could summon the second defender, but even then, you couldn't use the second defender's effect to summon the third, because you didn't have an open zone.
if you could move the second defender out of the extra zone, then you could summon the third, but there was no way to do that, and I don't think there's a way to do it eve now. (except giving it to your opponent with shien's spy.)
Except for the fact that it was perfectly usable in Master Rule 3, under which it was released
Not necessarily. You can have a Link Monster with multiple pointers.
@@beforedawnYuGiOh goyo defender requires that you only control warrior synchro monsters.
Omg.
There really isn’t a Lv 7+ legal Wind Normal monster in the entire game.
Weird Yugioh trivia 🤔
D/D/D Gust King Alexander not having a D/D tuner available after release not mentioned? My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
I also anticipated this being on the list but I finished this with disappointment
Oh yeah, forgot the Structure Deck with Lilith and Nighthowl was delayed. Ghost was a set or two later, but still.
i figured that the DMG detail was magician of black chaos, i pretty much never saw the vanilla ritual magician of black chaos in my life.
Honorable mention to griphon wing and anti raigeki from yugioh duel links
Anti Raigeki can be used against the Creator Skill can’t it?
I think it has a skill... Pot of Greed and Super Poly do.
@@runningoncylinders3829 creator skill is a random card from the "extra card pool" it's inconsistency to whether it would actually help you is why it doesn't see play much.
Getting a card you can't use should feel like the Monster & Cie meme

Skill drain plus Jarai Gumo or something like that was always one of my favorite plays.
Brick-eyes really was ahead of it's time
Neat video! Thanks for uploading!
Wait, I thought Volcanic rocket always just said "Blaze accelerator" card, did it ever say spell/trap? did I miss that?
Correct, it has always just said "Blaze accelerator" card. Which I suppose includes "Blaze accelerator" monsters, but... yeah.
Interesting video... didn't realize we don't have a 2 tribute wind normal monster...
Day 5 of waiting for new good Crashbug support.
I like this interesting approach, pretty good and fascinating.
Never knew about cards like this
Year 12 of waiting for new Yubel support and fire kings don't count as they don't list Yubel and weren't designed to help her
You have no idea how many people can't get this concept through their head
I remember XYZ Dragon Cannon being one of the fusions that couldn't be used.
It didn't take long though. Magicians Force was released the same year.
Indeed, it came first in the Tin boxes of 2003 right?
@@andrewbandin966 yup
so more specific name matches that weren't printed yet, and specific niches that didn't exist at the time of printing
I love this series and the bad articles one
Shooting Star Dragon was a tin promo and even though it was less than a week before formula came out, it was funny to see happen.
Damn I remember that big ass spider lol it was just used for defense and not meant to actually attack.
It was one of my favorite cards back then
We got D/D/D Gust King Alexander as a tin promo before we got our first D/D tuner from the Pendulum Domination structure deck iirc.
Not being able to summon Cybersaurus on release wasn't a drawback, it was a mercy. There was no reason to ever use it.
Iirc, Labyrinth Tank was another fusion that was also unplayable because both of the materials were unreleased.
I find it funny how in the old days, it was important to have a high attack and if you had a mid effect, that wasn't so relevant. Nowadays it almost feels like alot of archetypes will have a bad card but people might debate using it purely because it's attack is big.
As much as I've enjoyed the last few episodes in this series, I'm glad to hear that you're going back to comparing old text to new text. Still hoping you'll talk about Ultimate Offering!
It wasn't two years. Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon was released 13 August 2004. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon was released in the January 2006 issue of Shonen Jump, which actually was released in December 2005 as that's what Shonen Jump did. That's 1 year and 4 months. I vividly remember as I was so excited to finally be able to summon my Shining Dragon
2024 and Wind Effigy STILL has no legal targets other than Simorgh, Bird of Ancestry.
It should be noted that Tournament Packs weren't all that easy to get ahold of until fairly recently.
Great video! Gem Turtle comes to mind as a fitting card for this topic because it was released before Gem-Knight Fusion yet it lets you add said card from your deck to your hand. Any idea when the Rank 4 Salamangreat Xyz monster is supposed to be released?
Actually, Gem-Knight Fusion WAS available when Turtle came out. It just looks like the opposite if you're from not-America.
I’ve been catching these videos pretty early lately
Congratulations
I made a custom archetype that used Wind Effigy as its main card for getting out its boss monster. It was pretty cool
The thing about counter counter is that it was never unusable. 99% of the time In any TCG if theres a conflict between the general rules of the game and a specific card effect then the card wins.
MELFFY BEST DECK LETS GOOO
Krawlers look from the distance and salute
Alot of themes that got Key cards that Started out as Jump Promos was Unplayable for 2 years or more thanks to that stupid it had to be printed in aTCG set as a reprint for it to be legal in Europe rule they used to have.
Ah, Cyber Saurus. The first Yu-Gi-Oh card I ever got. It was the top card of the first booster pack I ever bought. Then I lost it like a week later.
As a dedicated Harpie player, when I saw Harpie's Feather Storm released and played at 3-of, I expected Harpie's Feather Duster to come back on the next, or one after, banlist.
... :(
Whilst not unplayable technically, this whole video just reminds me that TCG Konami released Nekroz as just Gungnir, Dance Princess and Cycle. Just three cards. They released the support, before they released the actual archetype. I remember being so salty about that.
Same thing happened with Yosenju. Tsujik was released before the rest of the archetype.
hey dzeef, your videos inspired me to get back into yugi with my brother. We're a little oldschool, so the aechetypes that mostly share one effect (like say, burning abyss or ghostrick) have been really helpful for us, any suggestions on streamlined archetypes that can help intermediates get back in?
Hey are you still playing ?
@@jamaaldagreatest2748 not since covid restrictions got worse :( eagerly awaiting Master Duel
I don't really play Yugioh these days and only really follow videos... so as a random question, is there any passive effect to change the levels of the monsters that Salamangreat Zebroid X summons? Obviously this wouldn't be particularly good unless it's just an added effect to a good card, but it could at least make the card playable.
For blue eyes shining dragon, due to misunderstanding certain rules, my friends and I used to say you could summon it in face down attack position because that wasn't specifically mentioned on the card despite not being a thing.
Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon came out in the TCG in December 2005 in the January 2006 issue of Shonen Jump Magazine.
I remember that you couldn't use Shooting Star Dragon properly because Formula Synchron wasn't released for another few weeks (Starstrike Blast). I only remember that cause I really wanted to try summoning Shooting Star.
"So if you pulled Cybersaurus you'd have to wait 4 month before you could finally summon it with polymerisation"
So basically modern yugioh.
Gem turtle and d/d/d gust king alexander. Gem turtle added gem knight fusion (which wasn't printed in english yet) and alexander needed a d/d tuner (the 1st english one came out in the structure deck months later).
Video idea: TOP 10 Most Random Cards To Receive Support
Wasn’t Zebroid X initially for Mirage Stalio?
Did it have a ban list difference just like Harpie’s Feather Duster?
Zebroid can only summon Level 4s so it won't work with Mirage
Elemental Hero Neo Bubbleman needs Metamorphosis to be summoned, which is banned, but you can summon him with Magistery Alchemist.
Ojama Delta Hurricane!! was released before Ojama Green.
7:30 - tbh i'm not sure if it counts? Yeah in competitive this last part is not a thing, but kitchen table Yugioh while practically never mentioned is still a valid way to play.
Surprised you left out Shooting Star Dragon
Tins were released before Starstrike Blast, before any proper Synchro Tuner was released
I remember someone having marshmellon before it was legal and it did have the English printing. It was good but by the time it came out it was an okay wall for a tribute
Honestly kinda shocked blue eyes ultimate dragon didn't get printed before the movie.
The first ever pack of yugioh cards I pulled contained a cyber saurus and I still have it
I don't know if it was released when it was on the banlist, but if it was White Hole would have been completely useless when Dark Hole was banned.
The only card on this list that I knew could be on the list was Dark Magician Girl. Did not know any of the others fell into this category.
I don't know if you've mentioned this, but, while it took about a decade to get Meteor Black Dragon in the TCG (and while it did feature in numerous games, including being the most powerful prize card in the PlayStation game Forbidden Memories), Meteor Dragon, its other Fusion Material besides Red-Eyes, had been available for ages by that time! What is extra weird about this is that it had already had TWO Animé appearances, the Fusion, in the first Movie (the Season Zero one) and in GX Season 4, where other cards such as Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, Red-Eyes Wyvern, Honest, Neos Wiseman (as a Fusion Monster, thus infinitely superior), Darkness Neosphere, Elemental HERO Divine Neos and even Five-Headed Dragon also appeared! Yeah, that was a good Season, shame it never got an English dub...
What's the World Championship prize card wind monster?
About to watch this video. Shout out to blue-eyes shining dragon.
Whats the dif between OCG and TCG?
ddd alexander for the tcg. when it was released in the tins there were 0 dd tuners available in the tcg, making it basically impossible to summon
Zebroid X can be used with DNA Transplant + A Legendary Ocean or any other level reduction card that affects your whole field (to summon Miragestallio).
What about Counter Counter which was originally a normal trap card so could not be activated?
Have you thought about doing a list of cards that can't be used or are more difficult to use because another card is banned that is supposed to interact with the first card? Like neo bubbleman needing to discard metamorphosis or guardian Elma needing butterfly dagger on board. I know you can still cheat out neo bubbleman, but you can't summon him in his intended way.
Just played duelist of the rose cards again and that dino is decent in it
what is the difference between the ocg and tcg, and why would they not print cards at the same time?
Blue eyes shining dragon is like the poster boy for this
Relinquished has never been printed with its ritual spell in th OCG
Actually it has, you needed to wait four months for the ritual spell :D
@@shawnli4746 yes but no set that has had relinquished has also had its ritual spell
Honestly, as a Salad player, I have to say, we are not missing much with Blaze Dragon not being in the TCG yet. I hope for a better Salad rank 4, or one that at least can do something of value.
Make me think of the card who where not avaible in Fordibben memories
Nekroz of Clausolas can add a trap!
It's 2022 and there still isn't another 2 tribute WIND Normal monster.
How often will you still mention that Shining Blue Eyes was not usable when it came out in the TCG? I guess most of the viewer here heard that like at least 10 times before xD but still great vid
Prints Shining Dragon.
TCG- "Yeah you're gonna have to wait 2 years before you can use that"...
Damn it man, how many weird effect cards can there be?
There’s well over 20,000 Yugioh cards so I’d imagine there’s a couple more to look at haha
Ah those were the days. 😂
