  • Turkey Farmer Robert Hupman is a second generation bird boy who runs a 75,000 bird-per-year farm in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. Theo and Robert talk about all things turkey, his family history on the farm going back to the 1700's, what it's like to farm and harvest them, and the best way to cook a turkey. Happy Thanksgiving!

I had about 40-60 turkeys at any given time for a few years ago awhile back and this episode just warmed my heart.
Had a tom, named him Monday cause that was the day I'd harvest him on, he ended up being like a guard dog for me, kept me guarded in the pens, hung out on my front porch, would fly on and attack any solicitor that came through. He got hit by a truck one day, had a twisted leg-healed and learned to walk with a limp and came back 5x more mean. I let him live ~3 years and sold him with my property, heard he died last winter, but he lived out more years than a private farm turkey usually would. Coolest fucking turkey ever, man.
