Could these guys be any more void of egos? So normal and down to earth. For all their talent and success, it's so impressive how they've stayed grounded. One of the reasons I love Rush so much.
Class act band from humble beginnings who stayed humble - loved when Peart mentioned all the unsung heros (roadies, drivers, etc.) behind the scenes at the Junos! Makes me so proud to be Canadian! Saw them in 1981-82 (Subdivisions Tour) at Mapleleaf Gardens in Toronto when I was 15!... 💕🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you guys were raised right!!!!! Hindsight is always 20/20. Always. Had we knew then what we know now, we'd probably hold them closer to our ❤️ heart. Rip Mr. Neil Peart.😔
Thanks for posting this. I started going to Rush concerts while I was a college student in the late 80s, but nothing was better than taking my 9 and 14 year old sons with me to Time Machine in 2010, and even now that Neil is gone it's awesome that my sons and I can share memories about how I grew up with Rush AND how THEY grew up with Rush as well. Rush music transcends time.
Out of all the rock groups out there these guys are very talented and good. I'm as old as these guys, to within a month, and I can't believe it took me until 1990 to find out about their music. One evening in 1990 in my garage I heard "the trees" and imediately had to find out more about this band. Throughout the years till' now, I have realised what I've been missing. I now can't get enough of their music. In my opinion, each of them is the best at what they do. Geddy is #1 next to John Entwistle on bass, Alex is #1 next to David Gilmour on guitar, and Neil is #1 next to Keith Moon and John Bonham on drums, (In my opinion). Geddy and Alex have been friends as long as I have been friends with my friend Rick, since 1967. I am happy for them retiring. At almost 65 (Neil being 1 year older), now they can enjoy their families, friends, and their other pursuits, as I am. Great 50+ years guys! I wish you the best.
The gentlemen of rock. These three guys if you look at the background are what this country is all about. Geddys parents struggle Neil and Alex family background too. Middle class guys who made it big and kept it together. Bless.
Alex thank you so much for all that Rush has done for music, you ,Geddy and Neal have set the bar as high as it can be for music with great musicianship and thought provoking inspritational lyrics thank you from-not only myself but the millions of your fans
I’ve been a Rush fan since high school (grad 1977). I’ve only been able to see them half a dozen times. A friend of mine has seen them approximately 50.
weedislegal4me2 my first concert was exit stage left, a Great tour and my first rock concert. great band, the best live. But the best thing seeing a concert in the 80s 4 off us only cost us 20 bucks.
All my Rush-loving friends and I pronounced it 'Pert' rather than 'Peert' for most of our Rush-loving lives, only after hearing the Electric Ladyland bootleg did we hear it pronounced correctly by Geddy Lee and we figured if ANYBODY knew how to pronounce it it would be Geddy Lee...and we ran with it from there.
It seems my kids still love me and still listen to Rush. Yes, they heard Tom Sawyer in the car before I got to the door. The youngest was born and came home listening to closer to the Heart. Thanks guys.
and I really like that they did a song about money... never really thought about it before but i guess it kind of goes against the norm for rockstars actually talking about the downfall of money as well as the good parts.
What Alex says about gaining respect is true. I am one of those people who like and respect the band even though I don't really like their music. I am glad that they have been so successful and that they please their fans.
These 3 were the epitome of how to be successful in the music industry and not become total assholes. They went through challenges that would have ended most bands. Through it all they solidly remained more than band mates. They remained best friends! I've always respected how they handled it when Neil needed to step away to get through his hurt of losing his wife and daughter. Many other bands, had they faced that situation, would have told him goodbye, found another drummer and went back on the road. Their loyalty to each other wouldn't allow for that to happen and we, as fans, are thankful for it. I, with my daughter by my side, was fortunate enough to have seen them for CA and R40. AMAZING shows and fun to watch their interactions with the crowd and each other. The loved what they were doing and were doing what they loved!
Thanks Geddy,I was 17 years old,and you guys were the first band I saw,you played at the Frederericton Aiken Center, and my friends said you would never give me your autograph,I bought a poster, ran to the back stage, the security basical told me to get lost, didn't know your names, then Geddy is walking towards back stage,i yelled hey Rush,Geddy walks towars me,signs my poster "Hi,Geddy Lee"...my friends were so envious,Thanks Geddy!!
Just like America was better in many respects in the 50s and 60s when taxes were far higher on the very wealthy. Yes, there was still a lot of room for improvement with respect to the treatment of minorities and women...there is no minimizing this factor. However, strictly in terms of how the very wealthy were taxed, there is a direct connection between how much the rich pay their share and how livable a nation is for the majority of its citizens.
The reason they were together for more then 4 decades is there is no me in the group. They all have great personalities and Geddy seems like he never gets pissed.Best rock band ever.
Has anyone ever seen the 1979 Hamilton Ontario footage they show around 10:15 (Bytor, and I think 2112 earlier as well) available for public dispersion? It is obviously professionally shot - yet the band keeps saying there is "nothing" in the vaults? I know I would buy it. I also remember reading that they recorded a string of shows on the Perm Waves tour with the intention of releasing what would have been their second live album just before deciding to go to Le Studio and record MP. I seem to recall that tracks 4 - 7 on ESL were from PW shows recorded in UK ...more gold in the Rush vault?
I was thrilled to see that little gem of a clip as well. My guess is that it is a local TV station who filmed for their news at 11 and would only have just a few bits for the program.
In my town, from the beginning we never thought RUSH wasn’t cool. Because they are so obviously very fucking COOL. It was just everyone else that wasn’t cool. Peace, Phil
You only see the finished product. You have no idea, and neither do I, what it takes to bake the cake. While they enjoy the perks of their labor, their “middle class bank account” definitely comes with “middle class bank account” headaches. Be careful what you wish for.
I love Rush but I think they made a Big mistake by replacing Terry Brown as producer. Frankly after Terry I would have lost interest in Rush but the lyrics and music (the craftsmanship)kept me going. In fact I went to every Rush concert in the 80s and 90s. Some twice! Took my kids to some....(then my son took me to that last one the R40 tour n paid for it too lol). :-) I couldn't help but to be amazed at the level of skills these young men had. First time I heard them I couldn't believe there were only 3 guys in the band. ... I can keep going... I'm gonna miss Neil terribly but I'm sure I'll get to meet him on the other side some time... Good Luck Alex and Geddy +... Thanks for sharing!
I think they’re describing a mentality in which they were brought up and they have not left behind rather than their present bank accounts. John Lennon used to say that The Beatles were a working class group who remained working class. Again, describing a mentality, not their bank accounts.
@@jasonlefler3456 of course you are right, that is obviously what he meant - the "elite bank accounts" quip was my own addition, because he said "we are" and not "we were".....
I was turned on to Rush from a chick in school whose brother was older than me.She told me to go buy ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE. So I bought it and became a fan instantly, she looked like Sheryl Crow and had moved from the St.Louis area down to the North Houston metro area where l am from. I wound up buying 2112 next, then the three album package Archives.I skipped on A Farewell to Kings, but bought Hemispheres. This is the time that l would see them for the first time,April Wine were the opener with their Roller album.Great show, the venue was old and decrepit.lt no longer stands-Sam Houston Colosseum. The next time I saw Rush was for the Power Windows tour in Dallas Texas at the former NBA arena Reunion Arena,it no longer stands. Rush had no opening act, they were walking in the footsteps of Led Zeppelin by doing this. What was cool is they had The THREE STOOGES theme music start when the house lights went down. To me it sent a message that don't have reservations about the band being to good to not have an opening act. We're just three normal guys who made it.This show was a visual and audio spectacle with projection screens behind the drum riser. I will never forget it,was worth the money.
??????????????????? I hear it fine. The sound was shifted to the left on the source video so maybe that's affecting you somehow. There's nothing I could do about that but everything is still clearly audible.
I was always excited to get a new rush all album because they were always fresh. I couldn't wait to find out what it sounded like or what journey or message they would present. No other band made me as excited about a new album because other bands typically sounded pretty much the same every album except you know for minor changes and lyrically weren't as epic, deep, or interesting as Rush. Sure I loved and listened to other bands but they as I've said weren't as interesting or as fresh. With Rush every album was a new journey like going to see s new movie.
ok! I can't do this any more. my left ear isn't picking up as my right one.you gotta fix this dude because else wise this program is very disappointing.
@alnilam66 I'm with you on that and I think maybe it's time to start a website similar to d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y com except instead of teaching people how to simply spell a basic word it would be targeted at people who can't properly pronounce "Peart". But at the same time it would also make people aware that his first name is "Neil", not "Neal". Man, I've never seen such a simple name get screwed up so often for literally decades. It's just bizarre.
These guys appreciate their fans maybe more than any band out there. It goes both ways - we made them rich; they made us happy. Thank you Rush!
Could these guys be any more void of egos? So normal and down to earth. For all their talent and success, it's so impressive how they've stayed grounded. One of the reasons I love Rush so much.
Its a Canadian Thing

What a great tour that was. Like fine wine they just kept getting better as time passed
These 3 have been me and my wife's heros since 1976... our High school years

Such a humble bunch of guys. So talented. Huge Rush fan.
I wonder if when Alex is standing in front of the mirror shaving that he's thinking that he's the greatest guitar player in the history of mankind.
He damn well better be! :)
He does, but in his head it sounds like, "blah blah blah."
He's just Alex different player yet brilliant.

Rush, great albums, great concerts. Cheers to you!
So humble to this day. Not only do their fans respect the band. The band respects their fans.
RUSH 2112 was my very first concert, and it changed my life as i knew it!
weedislegal4me2 my first concert was exit stage left, a Great tour and my first rock concert. great band, the best live. But the best thing seeing a concert in the 80s 4 off us only cost us 20 bucks.
NICEST guys in rock. They are so kind and so humble!
I put on Moving Pictures, and I'm a kid in '81 again.

Agreed. Those are three of my favs.
Gents... thank you... I hope you see this... you are the music soundtrack of my life... Really thank you!! You've made my life more meaningful...
"severely taxed country" but one that "is a great place to raise kids". Funny thing about Canada: taxes are high but the place is pretty livable.

Geddy the Guru - so cool!
I love these guys
Dammit I get choked up everytime.
Of course perseverance, the real key to RUSH is RAW FUCKING TALENT! Period! Peace, Phil
Thanks for this.
Funny thing is, Floyd, Zeppelin, and of course Rush are my top 3 favourite bands, with that point being a main reason.

How do 3 guys make all that music its a 6 piece band with 3 guys never will we hear anything like them again
And he behaved like a typical RUSH fan! :).. At the time, his favorite song was "Natural Science" And he has seen them on every tour since.
Why no right channel sound? My left ear had a good time, while my right ear was left out and got jealous.
I can hear it fine
The all female version of Rush is a tribute band called "Russhy".
GEDDY, where do you fit in? You take up the whole CANADIAN slot! Peace, Phil
where the hell is all of that old footage from? whole shows? where is it?!?!?!
omg @ 2:54 geddy is hilarious

At 4:51 is it Bono or Geddy???
Their kids...and grandkids....

happy birthday!
