You don't make mistakes building your car the way you want it
16:39 apparently you need to add a fab belt to the merch store lol.
Love the videos...as always! I have to ask, what in the world was that lady wearing around her neck at 23:18 ?
@@robotpizzathat was a money lei for Landon for graduation
I just bought a 66 bel air in salel oregon today with 71,000 miles on it and 0 rust because its from glendale AZ thanks for having rust free cars
People who build Things make mistakes, admit them and figure a solution before moving on, those sitting behind a pc that never turned a wrench though get their panties twisted if someone is not perfect. Keep doing what you and ignore the internet trolls
I'd really like to see more "Cantankerous Comments" again. We all get a good laugh out of them.
Ya tell me about it. I'm putting a coyote motor in a fiesta st currently. And I'm facing all kinds of issues. But working my way around them
💯🤔 I prefer fried banana pudding😮
If you're not making mistakes.....you're not working!
I love the way Paul pivots from, "darn" to, "okay this will give us more clearance this, not have to cut the column, headers will fit, etc" 😊
URGENT MESSAGE FOR PAUL: As an old, old hot rodder, I built a '57 Chevy 210 with a 409. Don't tear apart your steering, quite yet. To possibly solve your tie rod problem, try to find a Tri-Five POWER STEERING tie rod, which allows for a longer sump. My HP 409 fit like a glove, wearing this PS tie rod. I think MOOG still builds the tie rods for those old cars. PS: I sent you a Contact email through your web site with another recommendation for you: If your original radiator won't fit, try a Tri-Five, SIX-cylinder radiator and mount which provides for the radiator to fit nicely IN FRONT of the radiator crossmember, making the install look like the factory planned for a bigger engine. Good luck!
Bump, for Paul to read.
@@cdodge2996 I don't know what "Bump" means.
It's what I am doing now - putting a reply to bump it back up to the top of the list so that the OP should see it...

I wandered over from the Grind Hard fan club. You've officially become my favourite crew, been binge watching your playlists to prove it. Love this 55 and looking forward to seeing what happened to the Hummer! Thank you.
Merlin and Paul's antics and banter really is the icing on the cake. He needs to be around more often
I love how Paul tries to hide his pure unadulterated childish joy/excitement at 2:10. “When I’m grabbing gears”
Is Paul’s ringtone night rider?
Paul grabbing gears? We don't know WHAT he could possibly mean by that. He must be gonna pick up some old gears that have been sitting around on the shop floor or something. 😆
😂😂 Landon’s “looks straight to me” comment sounded so confident lol best channel on the tube! You guys make my day 3 days a week on minimum and I always end up watching older episodes in between…Really excited to see where you guys are at going into this next winter
Ya and we all know how all of Landon's projects end up.( Well here we are putting Landon's truck back together this is rendition #14 lol
@@mattreeves696 Yeah I just hope they never have to give us the long face.
@@mattreeves696 that 1 big block that came in and out of 2 different trucks multiple times 😂 I felt bad for them on that one that was a lot of work lol
Absolutely love this channel for that reason and they are great people
@@ruttlicker1139 ya and with all the other constant load of projects after the first rendition to 4x4, the second go around with the step side bed took like 7 months before he got to drive it again bad deal
Paul, "If wishes were fishes" is my all time favorite quote and hearing you say it made my day.
and the end part is; "we'd be up to our asses in mackerel".
Boy, you brought instant memories with "if wishes were fishes" and to complete it, "we all would have a fry"! I would say the wish part and Mom would say the rest! I was orphaned just after my 13 birthday and yesterday was my 79th, so 66 yrs of missing my Mother! I love your videos and keep a sport for Michelle for she is one Beautiful Lady!! Love from a friend from afar!! D
I’ve been using Adams driveshafts for 13 years on all sorts of products. His stuff is always great and customer service is top notch
Paul you did not make a mistake on the 55. Make it a reliable road car. Also Thanks to my wife for a great father's day gift. I am now an official member of the rat pack at Fab rats. Thanks Grandma and all the fab rat staff for the quick order.
Good to see Lando on the channel helping dad like what I'm seeing on the car it's gonna be sweet Paul
Paul never ceases to impress with his knowledge. It so much fun watching pros " the team" do their jobs. It's an Art and Science and Passion all coming together to make a family. Way to go, Fab Rats
Good to see the Boys hanging out and helping out. Car is coming along like how you where able to leave the leaf springs in while doing the 4-link
Your “say no to crack” policy at 6:36 is much appreciated.
16:39 also 😂
Came here to say that, too! Crack kills! 😂
its because they have to pay Shawn extra if he shows skin on camera🤣
It’s a Plumber’s Union taxation. No crack means no plumber on camera. 😉
I thought he was blurring a "tramp stamp" :)
Such a cool project. 55 is still my favorite Shoebox Chevy. Updating the drivetrain, interior and a nice paint job and it will be sweet!! It is always more work and takes way more time than you think. Not your first rodeo though!
Lots going on with the '55 Chevy and all the mods going on. This car is going to be awesome even if Merlin missed where the shifter was going to be mounted! Good to see Lando and Jace in the background supervising. Sean and Hunter did great as usual. Grandma Lolly stopped by to see how her build was coming along.
You have to love it when you get to see all the guys in the shop working on the 55! I always look forward to Fab Rats videos, and the sometimes shannagan's going on, and the once in a while, cantankerous comments, Michelle and Grandma Lolly supervising when need be! Looking forward to Sunday's video. Catch you then.✌️😊
Not certain how the shifter location could be determined before the engine and transmission was properly mounted. They shifted both around when installing the mounts.
The rivalry between Paul and Merlin is hilarious 😂! Love the channel!
This car is in the early stage of Awesome but it's already smiling. Great job on all the mods.
I have a 2021 Camaro SS 1LE with that engine and transmission…it runs like a scalded cat! To put the power to the road and keep it on the road, it has 305s in the back and 285s in the front - it runs like it’s on rails. You’re going to have A LOT of fun when you’re up and running.
Paul , sir , you crack me up with your off the wall comments ! Like the one " A blind Squirrel can a nut every now and then ! " ! 😅😅😅
Thank you for doing this 55
My family’s first car was a 1955 Chevy just like this but it was blue thank you Paul so much for bringing this back to life you’ll never go wrong by doing what you’re doing
We need more people like you and your family which is awesome awesome family awesome crew thanks guys you make this old man so happy💯✊🇺🇸
Paul is a hoot💯👍
Sitting here watching Fab rats on my cell phone ,while my 2 year old granddaughter watches Barney on my iPad, life is good 🙏
The good life. It’s technology great?
Try to get her to watch what you’re watching. You don’t want her growing up thinking “men” are what the videos aimed at kids today depict.

@@glennmuir5617 judging others is something I'll be sure not to teach her.🙄
Fab Rats, I drove a 55 Chevy 6 stick back in the day for a hardware store where I worked for 7 years. What you are doing to that double nickel would have been a Godsend! Good on Paul and the gang! Mega kudos!
Enjoying your upload this evening from Tokyo…. thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend, cheers!
Did you just squiggly screen over Paul's plummers crack?? Thats hysterical!!!!! 🤣😂
The Drilled and slotted rotors are on backwards
I mentioned that previously in another episode and they haven't swapped them yet.
I threw those bi-sexual dual calibrated annoying tapes out of my shop years ago. I actually prefer the metric nones as there are some of us who are unable to comprehend fractions and add or subtract them. I figure we saved $5000 per year in scrap due to measuring mistakes. with metric you are dealing with one number. for what it is worth. dual calibrated tapes are just annoying! keep ups the good work! love the channel. the only people who don't make mistakes are those who never build anything! cheers FAB RATS. Love the build.
I like how you left the factory suspension in to do the four link. That's just some smart thinking right there.
You are living my dream! I have so many projects at home that I want to do, but working on the road just prevents anything from ever getting started.
Keep it up!
Love y'all videos first thing in the morning. Makes for a much better day
Shout out to Landon, he’s always in the shop helping out and following in Paul’s footsteps, he’s well on his way to becoming a great fabricator, mechanic. He will definitely be the next generations Fab Rat leader, Cheers.
Thank you, Michelle, for blurring all that crack!
Crack-cam blur was so well done!!!!
That's going to be a nice hot rod...Michelle's videos are always really nice...rock on Fab Rats
Landon I hope you signed a big contract for your new job . With your skills and training you are valuable to the FabRats team!
I love your channel. Always have, always will. One small point, though: that long, thin piece of black metal you got from Adams is in reality a drive SHAFT, NOT a drive LINE. A drive SHAFT is exactly that: a shaft. (Some proper folks call it a "propeller" shaft.) But it is a SHAFT. A drive LINE is all of the stuff between your power plant and the driving tires (front, rear, or everybody, depending on the vehicle.) Just saying. And, yes, I am really old and persnickety. LOLOL
I'm 78 and calling a drive shaft a drive line just raises the hackles on my shackles.
@@AffectionateWrench-hv8hg Hahahahaha!
Can we please get an “it’s almost like we planned it that way” tshirt!?
Good morning Paul I love how you guys stay true to your channel and keep it original and not do stunts for views.
Thank you for that
I'm so excited for the photo shoot of the 2 grandmas riding the 55 Chevy Belair
The FabRats eyecrometer was used heavily today. You should sell those in your store. LOL
Thank you Paul and crew for the update on the '55 !
I mentioned in my last comment that I put the same running gear in my 57 Chevy except that I used a rack an pinion steering. Now you see why. I love the video of the installation, great job. Your eyes will pop out with the performance of this build. As always stay safe but have fun. 👍🇺🇸
I guess the answer is always "mo' money", but I often just wonder why anyone replacing so much "under the hood" of one of these older vehicles don't just automatically switch to rack & pinion. It's just... better. More positive response and feel, and no concerns over more modern systems of computer (random) control...
(Can you tell I _hate_ computer controlled steering?)
Huge amount of work to make an old car "new" - loving it.
I’m impressed with your son, a good young man for sure!
Great seeing Landon getting more hands on, valuable experience!!......Car is going be awesome!!
I broke a Adams drive line and when I say I broke it I mean I beat it against a rock and they still did good for me. James is a good guy.
Crazy that three bolts on the driveshaft will transfer all that torque to the rear wheels!!!
The shear strength of a 7/16" bolt is 700# x3 is 2100# sounds like alot but we are dealing with Paul here remember.
It's not strictly shear of the bolts what transfers torque.
The friction between the clamped together pieces carries much of the load.
Ok, if we round it to 400 TQ, times a 1.6:1 torque converter, times a 4:1 first gear, then times three because the driveshaft flange is closer to 4" than a foot, (foot-pounds) then divide by 3 bolts, the shear load is roughly 2400 pounds per bolt. Which is fine because the use of a torque converter prevents shock loading.
Having operated a driveshaft shop, my own feeling is that those 3 bolts have more torque capacity than the thin tubing of stock driveshafts.
@@sarahstephens5966
I guess you didn’t see Paul instal the shifter and mention “grabbing gears” to see this car will have an anti theft transmission. aka a manual.
Looking Great 👍really nice work, moving forward with your 55, all modern upgrades
Thanx for sharing your experience with your work and your business 👍
Have a Great Day 👍
HEY! Good morning and thumbs UP!
Those Willwood brakes will stop on a dime and give you a nickles change , my favourite build . Cheers 🇨🇦
No mistake here. The 4 link and the steering rack is the icing on the cake. Some good seat belts and speed rated tires might be needed for this ride. Here hold my dew!
Trust me...
Do the rack and pinion, sway bars front and back as well.
Made my mom's 57 nomad the best driving old car ever!
5.3/4l80 and 3.73s that thing rips and is also fairly economical
Landon needs a Land Rover project 😂overland with Landon
YES! We LIKE IT!
For some reason I imagined a supercharger on top of the LT, and now I cannot get it out from my head. Man...
Enjoy watching your channel. I think your front rotors are directional and you need to swap sides.
Love the new build but what happened to the Jeepster for Michelle?
it,s my favorite show, the 3 stooges meet the keystone cops, hahaha, since Merlin is not there i felt it was my duty to needle you on Merlin,s behalf, i get a kick out of watching him pick on you three, paul always looks like please leave me alone and pick on hunter and sean, you guys make my day, have a good one boys and don,t break to much stuff, merlin has to come there more its to funny. 😂😂😂
Do fans just drop by to say hi? Is it frowned upon? My husband and I are going on a road trip/vacation and will be going through Utah. We enjoy the channel a great deal. Just wondering......
You can drop by. They are not always there, but usually. Grandma Lolly is often in selling merchandise too.
It's always fun to see the shop even if you miss them.
16:22 Shawn we men do not need instructions. We just put it together until it works.
Thanks for sharing and taking us along
FWIW Paul was correct in saying 10cm is not 4" (approx 25:25), actually 10.16 CM = 4". I for one would rather work in tenths rather than eighths, or 16ths.
The other side of this is 10cm = ~3-15/16" or 3.063"
@@1moreford Actually 10 cm = 3.94". As I stated 10cm is easier to work with than 3 15/16" or 3.94"
Good video, with lots of creative thinking, and joking around while doing the work correctly! (This time).
Good to see the younger people/kids hanging around and lending a hand as needed. They will appreciate and remember those days when they get older.
Can't wait for this rig to be done. It's gonna be sweet.
The 55 is looking good it's going to be a real nice car. Your making it drivable car. I love restomod cars.
Sometimes the changes work for the better. Landon is right there helping out!
Man... I have to go to work. I will be watching when I get home.
The 1 benefit of graveyard besides a little more money is I’m getting home right when they launch a new episode lol but I remember being on dayshift and wishing I had time to watch the new one before work 😂
Looks like a Moroso deep sump, which of course causes interference issues. There are other options including a dry sump. It's coming along nicely, I can't wait to see you guys test drive it.
This is going to be a great build I look forward to every episode. Great crew great watch.
Old girl getting a new heart. She'll be a teenager again. Whisle Whisle Sweeeeeee! Swaaaaaaa!
Looks like you're really making some progress on that dear old Chevy. Thanks for the video.
The fuel system is what I’m waiting for. It sounded like it was going to be a mess in the opening video for the build. Hopefully it goes smoothly!
I don’t remember what kind of this is, but that thing is going to be a ripper with that LT4 and tremec 5 speed. Can’t wait to see it up and running.
That driveshaft shop (Adam’s) is down street from me out in Vegas. They do pretty good job with stuff.
Gotta love those Harbor Freight (??) magnetic parts trays (plates??) !!!
Your zany antics, accompanied with toe tapping music is a hoot.
I love how you are teaching your boys how to do what you do
On the engine mounts . I ran a metal blackstrap around the out side . The polyurethane will eventually come loose. And the strap will hold it all together.
Sir, I still have just sittin and watchin you and the crew on my bucket list.
You always have a most excellent plan A….B….etc
And , daumn do you give welding lessons? Appears you have a couple minutes of time holding the hot stick!
Thanks for the videos! 🙏❤️😎🤙
Did You figure out solution for the Steering and Brake Hydraulic Pump? Consider using a 12V electric Hydraulic Pump if you have not already come up with something. Yes they make them! You can get a custom kit from Summit Racing for some sort of JEEP or find a new/used/reman one from 02~08 year models of Mini-Cooper cars. You will need some more juice from the alternator, but that should not be an issue, since the Later LS/LT engines usually have huge alternators to begin with.
You guys are costing me sooo much money in my head, giving me so many ideas for my 55. Awesome build, and I can't wait to see how this turns out!
It's coming along pretty well. There is a little of the 2 steps forward 3 steps back type of stuff going on but it's getting closer. I think it will be a nice 55 once you finish it.
Yeah yeah, the age old game: "How far can we get without absolutely having to read the instructions?" 😁😁🤘🤘
The fab rat dance, dodging straps, yanking, heaving , banging and weld squinting.
Oh my gosh! Y'all are always so entertaining to watch!!!! Love our Fab Rats!
The car is getting there little-by-little, day-by-day,😉👍, great job guys, and thanks for sharing.
Don’t beat yourself up about the lawnmower race. The first time was a learning experience. Next time with a lowered setup and more horse power you’re going to lap the competition. Although I’m putting my money on Shawn. He’s soft spoken and reserved, but secretly dangerous behind the wheel. He’ll be behind you on the last lap and draft around on turn three. On the back of his mower it’ll say, if you can read this you’re in second place. 😂 Regardless of mowing the lawn your Chevy will be a sweet hot rod.
Always fun..... Sometimes. You hit an obstacle and actually improve it. You are going this far might as well tub it and get some sweet meats to fill the hole up!
Awesome video. I am a big fan of the 55 chevy. I can't wait to see more of this build.
Its probably too late or possibly expensive to consider, but you can get dry sump kits that generally improve oiling reliability and allow you to use low profile pans without a sump. The dry sump systems might not work with the K member on the frame, however.
Landon is so naturally talented in the shop!!! He should definitely check out Welding school. I think he would be a rockstar welder and very likely fabricator aswell. You also have one of the best teachers of the one man every talent persona to learn from so I see greay things for you my guy!
I mean Paul obviously lol!
Ya'll rock love ya build on!
To answer your question in the video title, I hope the decision to use a modern high tech engine with all the electronic stuff works out. Electric sensors for everything feeding control modules through a can buss and then back to various electronic stuff could turn out to be a headache when getting everything set up. Chad is likely going to have his work cut out on this one. So many people I know, including myself, have had terrible problems with newer engine electronics and programming in the factory unaltered state but when you eliminate inputs from stuff the control modules will be looking for (ie. Steering angle inputs for one but there's lots others) would think that would complicate things even more. I hope it works out for you.
😂 "with any luck...27 years" that's exactly how I do it!
Shawn be like “that was permission!” 😂😂😂😂
the proper motor mount for the drivers side is one with a built in restraint.
Rack and pinion steering will help a ton with how the car handles over the old worm and sector set up.
No mistake. Just some changes and modifications for work around solutions. Making her a more usable vehicle.
👍LOOKING GOOD
I always put a chain from the motor block to the frame.
Thanks Guys
Paul you put the rotors on the wrong sides, they're directional man.
