  • See what it takes to build a performance converter kit that can handle max power on the street and track!
You may have heard of the infamous "Hated" Syclone - an AWD beast running 900 HP and 1,000 ft-lbs of torque. The transmission is already powered up with Sonnax Level 3 4L60/E performance upgrades, and now we help owner Ray Lichtenberg get his converter up to speed as well.
Sonnax VP of Product Line Management Steve Jaussaud walks us through the rebuild for an inside look at how everything comes together.
As race season is ramping up, now is a good time to think about upgrading your converter. Click here to learn more: goo.gl/XP1AYk

"Converters are complicated, it's not a DIY don't try this at home"....
Sounds exactly like something I want to try. Lol I don't know why I just can't help myself

Do you make racing torque converter for mitsubishi pickup 4d56 engine? Drag diesel application.

Is there someone that builds these with actual examples of doing it previously? Can't find any builder online referencing a performance build with these parts but I'm interested. Got a tired 6l90 suburban 2500 with about 200K and want to build it (both the converter and trans) back up to haul big loads for another 200K... They just don't make these rigs any longer. Yeah, looking to drop LS3 - so there will be a slight power bump too.

Hi Aaron, rather than a small diameter performance converter to help you go fast (like what’s shown in the video), we’d recommend a heavy duty converter for your 6L90 that will handle lots of power and tow heavy loads. Best bet would be to find a local quality transmission shop that could rebuild your transmission using Sonnax parts, and could also supply a converter that was built (at minimum) with a Sonnax GM-CC-13 or (better yet) a GM-RK-21. Hope that helps, thanks for reaching out!

@@sonnax not saying I want this exact one, just a reputable online presence that builds/sells TC's with Sonnax parts. Here where I'm at (and it sounds like from comments, many parts in this country) it's hard to find reputable and well trained local shops to do custom work. If Sonnax sold a line direct to customers, that would be great. I'd pay double for the assurance it was built right with the parts I desired - I think many others would too.

@@rook13pdx We don't have a list of recommended builders, however, our sales team would be happy to help with questions on how to buy our parts, etc. They can be reached directly via email at info@sonnax.com, or phone at (800) 843-2600 or +1 (802) 463-9722. Thanks again, and good luck with your build!

Does Sonnax sell torque converters or only parts for them?

Say for example. and this is just kicking it around, not using actual names or anything, but say the shops in a persons area are all thieves. how would we know its being done to the standards Sonnax adheres to. is there a list of builders you can recommend that play it straight? thanks. Not so much with the TC as thats kinda obvious. but much more so the higher performance internal components you make. thanks much.

I use TSI, I think if you just buy a quality convertor from TCI or TSI, Justin at TSI either answers the phone or will call you back. He is extremely knowledgeable and will build ANYTHING you want. I run the spragless convertors behind 1400+ hp in 1 of my cars and it has held up for years now. My second car has a little less power but also runs a spragless convertor with zero issues. Any good builder will put together what you want to YOUR application and will warranty what they sell you, and usually a free stall adjustment if needed. Just be 100% honest with your HP numbers and if you are guessing, guess low. I'm in AZ and there is a BIG name company here, I like to keep the money at home, but I wouldn't buy a dipstick tube from them anymore. I also have a TSI 5500 glide in 1 car and a stock case with all the TSI internals in the other.
