    Hi Have you guys given any thought to contaminated trans oil with metal particles interfering with electrical conductivity on the open type electrical terminals inside the box , wouldn’t this play havoc with computers with the oil no longer being a insulator?

    • @sonnax
      @sonnax Před 16 hodinami

      Yes, we've considered the impact of contaminated transmission oil with metal particles on electrical conductivity, particularly regarding open-type electrical terminals inside the trans. While contamination is a concern, our investigations into various rebuilds from multiple shops show that the level of contamination required to significantly interfere with low voltage signals would have to be quite substantial. In typical transmissions, there is a magnet and a filter that will catch most of the problematic particles. The contamination levels observed are generally not high enough to cause notable issues with electrical conductivity or disrupt computer systems. If you see that amount of contamination, then there is likely a much bigger issue that needs to be addressed. Thanks for reaching out!

      @@sonnax Thanks for responding, I returned the valve body, and ordered a valve body from Central Valve Bodies in OK that specified 2010 - 2018 , 5 ball style, and so far it has worked well. I originally ordered the universal Sonnax VB to fix a P0871 code that would appear randomly on heavy acceleration, curvy roads, or bumpy roads. After install I got P0871 in gears 1-3 within a block or two from leaving my driveway. Verified by monitoring the OD clutch open closed state with scan tool. My questions for the Sonnax Universal VB: 1. Does it matter which solenoid you install. Black, White or Gray? (My truck had gray, after 1st install and fail, I ordered and installed a new gray from Mopar for 2nd attempt with no change) 2. Does it matter which TRS (transmission range sensor plate) is installed.( I swapped my original TRS plate hoping it would solve problem on 3rd attempt, It did not. I reinstalled my original VB and my original conditions returned. 3. I followed directions provided, swapped the springs, checked ohms, torqued everything to spec. Could have the problem been a 7 ball vs 5 ball VB? or is it possible the new SSV was stuck? or I just had bad luck with a faulty part. Just trying to help out others who may be experiencing similar issues.

    Does the Rfe's have an external line pressure test port for live fluid psi readings?

    • @sonnax
      @sonnax Před 2 měsíci

      Yes, they do. There are several options available for adapters (here is a link to one Transtar sells: www.transtar1.com/products/transmission-tools-and-equipment/featured-products/Line-Pressure-Adapter-Tool). Just remove the line pressure sensor and install it in the adapter. Install the adapter in the case and reconnect line pressure sensor. Now you can verify actual line pressure and compare it to what the scan tool is reading.

    I have a general question about a valve body that I can't find an answer to. If you'd be so kind to give me advice I would be grateful. It's regarding a completely different automatic transmission, a SJ6A-EL from a 2017 Mazda MX-5. I saw a video of a mechanic adjusting the "pressure control valve" (boost valve?) without even taking the valve body out. He just used a flathead screwdriver to easily adjust this valve to a higher setting and claimed that this boosts the pressure a little and will improve shifting response. This was on an unmodified valve body with no "shift kit" installed. So My Question is: is it safe for me to adjust this valve to a higher setting or should I leave it alone? Would it really slightly improve shifting even without a full shift kit in the valve body? Keeping in mind that my car is stock, 80k miles and I don't abuse it. It shifts fine the way it is (a little too smooth for my taste) but if I could improve it a little without putting extra wear and tear on the transmission with this simple adjustment that would be great. Thank you for any suggestions on this.

    Great tip, works like a charm! For commonly available parts to press on, a disassembled 4L60 sprag is a good enough fit for the first crimp (use 4L60 outer race to press against planetary-- stack components "upside down"), and the front ring gear assembly from the same unit works for the second crimp. (I figure we all have bucket loads of 4L60 parts laying around).

    • @EricHaslip
      @EricHaslip Před 29 dny

      Thank you very much for that pro tip. I did one of these last week, but it didn't go very well. Today I used the 4L60 outer sprag race like you said, and it came right off. I pressed it using the smaller side first and then the larger side next. When I went to go try the ring gear, I noticed that the dam plate was already free from the planet. Can't wait to try the next one.

    Great video information! I have a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. with the 62TE trans. It just started slipping from 2nd, to third. I changed the filter and fluid. Cleared codes. Drove it around the block gently. It started slipping a little worse with a slight whine. I see a new check engine light. It read P0869. This motor/trans does not have a TCM, just a ECM. This code shows line pressure high. Low fluid, ECM, or wiring issues. Fluid is Ok, would changing the solenoid pack, and Tcc solenoid possibly help? The car has never had any trans issues, I have changed the fluid and filter every 60K. Any recommendations?

      NO! I don't care what they believe. Keeping the stock allowed slip BS is just making life harder on the Sonnax upgraded converter. EVERY good builder will block the appropriate ports to force TCC to not unlock or slip. Its better if it goes in walks up unlocks locks up unlocks. And also a good practice on these transmissions is we go in and program out the lock up on first through fourth and only lock up in 5th and 6th on daily driver trucks and fourth fifth and sixth on towing vehicles. Because this slippage that GM put in there is to make sure you don't feel that torque converter lock up but that's also what makes that front cover grind down to metal and overheat and warp that front sheet metal cover and if they had built a billet style front cover for the converters they can get away with it maybe but in all actuality you're going to be much happier if you find a good person who knows how to tune a 6L 80 or a 6l90 and eliminate that slippage apply pressure just a little bit to make sure it's a good solid hold without overloading anything. And if they're really good they'll go in and tune your shift points so that your transmission gives you a nice firm but not radical shift where you feel one two three four five six and it holds better and doesn't burn itself up.

    Why does Sonnax not have a Canadian toll free number to access customer service? I purchased a transmission kit with discrepancies in the contents and instructions yet I’m expected to pay for the privilege of getting some technical support?

    The Modified with lots of Sonnax parts 4l60e I have behind my LS1 has a 300mm 3 Pad converter TAG: TMBX 2420-6642, would it be compatable with what your showing here, I need a heavy duty low stall TQ for my 4x4.

    • @sonnax
      @sonnax Před 6 měsíci

      The converter kits and modifications in the video only work for 6L80 and 6L90 units. The 300mm converters in the 4L60E’s don’t suffer from the same converter failures that the 300mm units see in the 6L units. For your 4L60E application, a converter builder should be able to set you up with a low stall 300mm TMBX style converter with a forged cover. The Sonnax part number for a forged cover for a TMBX converter is GM-CC-17: www.sonnax.com/parts/4589-front-cover. Hope this helps, and thanks for reaching out!

      @@sonnax Thank you so much for replying to my question, The LS1 4l60e in question is out of a 2004 Australian Holden Commodore and fitted to a 94 Toyota Hilux LN106 using an adapter kit mating the 4l60e to the Toyota transfer case, The Hilux is setup with a Touring Canopy and loaded up for extended living in the outback and weighs in at around 2400kg / 5300lb travelling in some very hot and rugged conditions that puts a lot of stress on the transmission and converter so a recoed one is on the list to be done. Cheers from downunder.
