What about real-time diagnostics. Misfires? Fuel injectors? O2 sensor? Virtual compression?

Hello your car guy. I see this was like your newest post; i saw a post from 5years ago for code p0171 i belive on a toyota camry. i have a question about a subaru outback; its an 08 2.5 sohc . im trying to fix a 1153 code an random 0171 code. i have a new maf on it an 02 sensors have sprayed the intake for leaks. none just wondered if you have delt with it before on an subaru an could point me in a differant direction. thanks randy

Both codes are likely related. I would check fuel pressure to verify that you are in spec. Also make sure that the upstream oxygen sensor was replaced with the correct sensor. I ran into one having a similar issue. Replaced the O2 sensor and still had issues. Some of these cars need a very specific O2 sensor and the auto parts system will call out for a normal O2 sensor when the proper sensor is more sensitive. Once I found the correct sensor number and replaced it my issue was solved.

@@YourCarGuyDR I used a denso its oem . swapped the ones out of my 06 outback also.. Thanks for the idea. I noticed im having filling issues below 1/4 tank. i might have vap canister issues causinf a vac leak; Oh yeah i just picked up a T so i can check fuel pressure. thanks

@@radarrx65v1 Be aware that if your car was set up to be a California car the upstream O2 sensor may actually need to be a fuel air ratio sensor. Denso makes both and the parts guides usually only call out for the standard O2 sensor which will look and plug in the same but will not work. When I ran into this I went to the Denso site and used their guide to get the part number for the correct sensor as all of the other parts guides kept referring me back to the regular O2 sensor and even showed it as a substitute for the correct air fuel ratio sensor.

On the scann tool we have it doesn't show front o2 sensor just rear. But for now I'm waiting for the time to check fuel pressure. Then go from there. I do have a used canister to try also. Thanks again
