    80% of my bass caught with the whopper plopper have been hooked right when the plopper hits the water, so don’t worry about it scaring them away.

      My son caught an 18 pound striper same exact way…Soon as it hit the water the striper exploded on it…I told him you must have hit him on the head when it landed lol

      It has to depend on the fishing pressure or something else, anytime I throw mine out I have to cast past my target like he does. I could be going to high with my cast though too. I’ve been told to try and keep it as close as the water by multiple people to reduce splash.

      @@quintenlauner212 I do believe the low line-drive cast is probably key. I do a sidearm flip cast with it.

      If they're in a topwater mood I dint think they'll get scared off. Had one fish take three swipes at a whopper plopper on different casts before finally eating it.

    A couple things that I do when WP is I add a barrel swivel to the O ring to keep it from "torpedoing", change out the hooks and add electrical shrink wrap to the rear hook to keep it straight out to prevent it catching on the propeller. Just make sure that the wrap doesn't go over the ball !

    • @BassFishingHQ
      @BassFishingHQ  Před 3 lety

      I have seen that wrap before. That’s definitely a neat place modification

    Many of my bites come when the bait hits the water. Rarely do they bite on the retrieve.
    I throw it out there, and then let it sit a few secs, give it a twitch. Thats how to get them.

    Whopper plopper is my favorite lure hands down. I personally have been having better luck with the 75. I think it makes a deeper gulp sound. But 110 is always a must

      Try the berkley chappo in the bluegill pattern. I've found that a lot of the time in really pressured water a smaller more realistic plopper will kill it when the larger more aggressive ones fail.

  • @LBCF1689
    @LBCF1689 Před 10 měsíci

    While it's true that big lures landing right on or near a fish may spook them- when they are in an aggressive phase that is exactly what you want in order to elicit a reaction strike- nice video overall

      Typically, I would say that I will use a whopper plopper in about 6-8 inch chop and no more. However, several years ago I was catching smallmouth in 3 foot waves on a spook style bait. So I think it could be conditional. If they eat it, keep throwing it lol

    Do you have a recommendation on a brand to purchase. The River2Sea ones are pretty pricey, and as new to bass fishing was hoping there might be another brand that you would recommend. Great video. I really enjoyed how you showed the miss, followed by the hit on the worm in a non-edited take. Really speaks to your experience when you can give advice and then demonstrate it.

    useing a bait caster if your lure it's the water hard you not feathering your thumb on the spool it's makes no matter what size lure I use it never makes a big splash it's caused by useing the breaks and not you thumb I never use the breaks when I learned to use a bait caster they didn't have breaks
