Did Dodge Screw this up? 6 Cylinder GT's vs. Hellcats...

- I give you my thoughts on whether or not Dodge made a huge mistake by making their 6 Cylinder GT cars looks essentially identical to their top of the line hellcats. Was this the right move? What are your thoughts?

When R/T owners ask me why did I buy a V6? My response is why did you buy a R/T and not a 392 or Hellcat? Too much hate on other peoples car. I love and enjoy my V6, that was fully paid off in 2.5 years. Now she's upgraded with better rims/tires and better suspension with Eibach springs/shocks/struts. I have fun with her and still have more than enough money for the important things in life.
It took me till I was 38 to be able to afford a car that wasn't bought from a family member or Craig's List. I got a 2017 Charger SE AWD. Yeah, it's a V6, and I eventually plan on getting a CAI and a cat-back exhaust, but this car? It's mine. I was finally able to buy a car that I've wanted. It might be used, it might have 80k miles on it, but it's mine. It's a symbol of dragging myself out of poverty and making something of myself. I know my car can't haul like a Scat Pack or Hellcat can, but that's okay, I'm more than happy with what I have.
I have a Dodge Charger 2019 SXT and I just got my wife a 2021 Dodge Charger GT and we love our cars. Her GT is more agressive than my SXT, but hey at least we can afford what we have and enjoy what we have.
Amen to that! 👍
@@marcohinojosa4348 thats interesting. I know the challenger sxt and GT have different final drive ratios. Could be the case with the charger. Sxt probably has a higher top speed.
@@bakerarmy My SXT tops out at 125 because of the governor, not sure about the GT. I will have to see about that in the future.
If the v6 charger had the same exhaust tone as the v8 everybody would be riding around with a v6 charger 😂
There is still the performance aspect but I still enjoy the V6
@@RacerX9 exactly and is 99% about the power for me, the sound is just another awesome plus of the V8s and wouldn't want a 6 banger myself
Haha,nope..but theres nothing wrongwith a v6
@@wilheimreis8272 no there's not, actually the pentastar is a damn good mill
It's all fun and gf games until you meet someone who has a twin turbo gt
We’ve all had a v6 let’s be honest we had to start somewhere and of course we wanted it to look like the beefier versions, some us us even drove it like we were, but dodge was smart it made us all say we wanted a hemi right? The v6 version is a TEASE car that basically forces you to want more. GOOD ADVERTISEMENT 💯
True
I have a 20 GT and I’m already looking to upgrade. I don’t think I’m going to go Scat (even though I could) because the car is going to be used to commute. I don’t want the fuel and insurance costs that will come with the Scat. I will get the RT with the Daytona package and stick with that.
But I think it’s a little whiny fo people with scats and hell cats to be mad at the way the GT looks because even if you’re not into Chargers you can hear, feel, and even see these cars are not the same. Just my opinion. The grill is very different on the scat and hell cat for example not to mention the decals. I mean my car says GT on it.
Yuyouououyouiy
Shout out to to every V6 owner... Y'all are the real heroes
I have contributed by buying two SXT’s. After having my first one hit by someone who blew a red light I got another one. If it weren’t for the wife and kids, I would be in a Ram 1500 R/T.
I had to settle with wife on a family vehicle Durango v6 was perfect. Mom car with a little bit of balls and still mean looking 🤣
V6s or v8s ,they all are welcome to enjoy mopar world.😎
For sure 👍
That is correct Christian. No one should care.
Well put 💯
Awd v6s
Depends on who you ask...I think having a muscle car without the muscle is pointless
I have an R/T & I do not care. Most folks that have a brain can tell the difference.
I agree with this☝🏽
5.7 or 6.2?? Us 6.4 guys can’t make any improvements as far as power is concerned smh
5.7.
They are smart they all have interchangeable parts :) As a GT Challenger owner I dont hate the fact 99% of people think im driving around an 80K car hahahaha
That's the attitude. Good for you.
@@richardghio5072 lol I will ad when people comment or ask about it the look of disappointment on their face when I tell them its an AWD V6 is priceless hahahaha like I crapped in their cereal or something...
Same 🤣
they all know ur driving a v6 sports car which is just embarrassing tbh
Same here. I have actually have been tempted to buy the Demon hood because it looks way cooler. But I have a custom decal in mind for my current hood so I won't.
In my opinion I think people who are bothered by it really care about the clout and status that comes with having a top trim level vehicle. Most automotive enthusiasts will know the difference so if you're bothered that the general public can't tell then maybe you care too much about wanting to out-do the next person. I have a scatpack but get just as excited when I see an SXT or GT. It's all Mopar love 🤜🏼🤛🏼
This is a great comment!
At the end of the day, we all Mopar brothers! Mopar or no car!
That is how it should be.
Yep cuz most of us scatpack and hellcat owners once owned a v6🤣
You right bro! I still have my 2008 v6 charger. Even tho, I have my SRT 392.
My RT gets no love like the rest of the middle children!!! SCATS & CATS love to beat it SXT & GTs love to test it. I'm brawling through the city just for tacos. It's gotta stop. We need peace for Mopar! Unless it's a JEEP lmfao.
Just bought me a 2019 charger GT. I love it! Couldn't afford the scat so I'm happy with the GT. Great video also
Nothing wrong with that
It’s ok you’re poor
Im a RT owner but i agree that every trim should look different
Folks want the car to look differ because they wanna out do some people. What matter is what's under the hood.
Yeah true my scatpack looks like a gt but I don't really care cuz I sound better and leave them behind 😉🤣
@@thelastdon6562 not really but i understand y hellcat owners wanna b different. 392’s and down can all b the same but hellcats should have its own look. At the end of the day you can always tell them apart by the sound
There's no way a scatpack should look like a Gt. At least change the hood and steering wheel to flat bottom.
@@gamerforlife_3179 i agree. They should all have more distinct features
Being a R/T owner I can say I think it's fine to me cause at the end of the day when you guy's are next to each other and hit the pedal and the exhaust boom and his whisper it's always a reminder😂😂😂
This is true
Haha this is the best way to look at it man!
all the time brother😂i think it's funny if you ask me
Exactly 💯
real talk
I bought a GT because I wanted AWD first and foremost, but I'm not going to Bitch about having a cool looking car.
As a charger gt owner, Im very happy and enjoy the performance.
I think Dodge is making the V6 trim levels look more appealing since those are the most sold.
Also, If people can't tell the difference, less likely to be stolen.
Yea most of the v6 challengers come with black wheels which is cool because it’s ready to go doesn’t really need any mods
Pop the hood. All you gotta say. Hellcat gonna shine and this is coming from a R/T owner. Love that you finally addressed this. hear it all the time at car meets.
Thank you Bill
I’d do anything just to have an R/T
Exactly even mee being a scatpack owner I agree 👍
Now I see why a lot of guys nowadays are swapping to viper hoods and outrageous wraps
Got my 2021 gt yesterday after owning a 2010 sxt for 5 years. And I absaloutly love it! Gets stares every where I go and has plenty of power for being a v6 in such a heavy car
They're the number one muscle car seller so they must be doing it right. The v6s can outruns alot of the 80s and 90s v8s. V6s have come a long way
LOL V6 of today can now beat 80 and 90 models lol whew finally u guys now can lol
@@OU812NVME Actually the original dodge charger street Hemi still has more horsepower than a v6 charger
The 6cyl is obviously perfection
Maury : “The lie detector determined....THAT was a lie”
I like the lower levels. I have a 50th Scat; but I’ve toyed with the idea of getting a GT. There are lots of features I like about my car besides the 6.4. But the GT makes it more affordable to enjoy. And 300 hp isn’t exactly a slouch.
I think each trim level should have a distinct look. I’ve pulled up beside a GT the other week and got a little jealous... where is my hood scoop? Where’s my vented rear bumper? I have an 18 RT Plus, and the GT looks more sporty!
Man the R/T sports ❤️
I’m 19 and just started college. I work between 35-40 hours/week ontop of all my school, and earlier this year, I went out and bought a 2020 Charger GT smoke show. Everyone who tells me “you shoulda got a V8 bruh” is still whipping a Toyota Prius or thier moms minivan. The people who hate on these cars are people who don’t even own them to begin with. I love the look of my charger, and it’s just enough performance where I feel like I’m driving a fun car, but not fast enough that I’m going to get pulled over whenever I take it on a drive. Being 19 I also didn’t have an extra 10k to spend on getting a V8 or more money burning a hole in my pocket to pay for insurance. I could have chosen any car that I wanted in this price range, but I chose a Mopar. Dodge is a community, and I have yet to receive anything other than respect from another person who ACTUALLY owns a dodge themselves.
Another sick video, thanks brother for cheering our day.
Absolutely my friend 👍
That is the very room that my Hellcat was sitting in when I showed up to buy her! Thanks for the jog down memory lane.
The GT is an excellent option for crazy Charger lovers that doesn't have enough money to buy a Hellcat (like me hahaha), or people who live in countries where the gas is ridiculously expensive like Costa Rica (like me again hahaha)
Thanks for the video buddy! Appreciated and everyday I love more the Charger 😍
Or for those of us who need AWD .... like me .... haha
@@Ryzenberg78 haha haha...hah... good one...👌
Lol the GT is for posers who know nothing about cars lol
The fact that you just said it's for people that can't afford a hellcat says it all.
@@dman7626 how old are you 12?

Who cares if you have a GT. It’s a good car and well equipped. Not every one can afford a hellcat or even a scat pack. Don’t hate in someone if they only have a 6. Still a good looking car
I have two Dodge Charger cars -- Scat Pack (Daytona) and GT. I just like how the cars look, don't really care if they look like Hellcats or not.
You have two great cars.
People complaining over some bumper covers and a similar hood? Yikes, that’s really kind of sad.
Racerx we hope u feel better brother. Thank u for all the wonderful videos .

Just bought a Frostbite Blue '22 GT with the V6. What a car. What a car!

Dear Racer X, I was scrolling through Facebook and saw your hellcat on Hurst Autoplex! 😭😭😭 am going to miss that beast on your channel!
The GT Charger looks amazing!
I am a R/T Challenger owner. I love the wheels on my car. (White Knuckle/RT Plus/Blacktop pkg) Those wheels and the hood scoop on that Charger really set that car off. Nice looking ride! Thanks for the video!
i was thinking about this conversation for a couple days and the youtube algorithm showed me this video haha good job
Racerx thank you for making these videos that always talk about the whole dodge family and mopar SXT GT RT shaker 392 hellcat etc.
I love my RT and for me it is not a problem if they look the same , all that matters if you are happy with your car .
Them eyes better get trained then because them GT chargers looking dope 😎💯
Lookin fresh racer x
Another great video!! 👍
I think is was a great idea. To be honest I wasnt even considering a Dodge Charger because I didnt like the way the RTs (pre facelift) looked in the front and didnt like the basic look of the SXT and didnt think I could afford a 392 Scat Pack so I was actually looking foreign brands untill I saw a V6 GT Charger pass by me mid 2019. I said to myself, wow, that charger looks great and its only the V6 model. So I was about 3 day from going to dealership to get a V6 GT Charger when a guy at work sideswiped my currebt car at work with a forklift and it wa sat a body shop for over a month. They other things came up and I never made it to dealership. Fastforward to Sept 2020 where I was pulling in a lot of extra overtime from everyone getting sick with Covid-19 and I was able to get a great price on a 392 Scat Pack and put a decent down for it as well. But like I said, if it wasnt for the V6 GT Chargers Od prolly have gotten a used E series Mercedes or something else like that for about the same price as a V6 GT. But now Im a very happy owner of a 2020 392 Scat Pack Charger.
Oh and the "Nostrals" on my 392 is solely the only reason I got the 392 over the RT to be completely honest here. Lol
I had a 2014 Dodge Charger SE with some minor mods, traded it for a 2019 Toyota Camry SE. Then traded that for a 2021 Dodge Charger GT AWD. The GT in this video is the exact same color in black. This is by far the best car I’ve owned.
Up North here, 7 years and only 55,000 miles later my 2014 Charger SXT Plus AWD Sport, (that's the full name on the window sticker), rated at the full 300HP thanks to factory true dual exhaust, with the factory-siamesed cross-over pressure equalizer pipe, the same factory air box as the SRT, and special factory-tweaked tune, sport suspension, (perfect combination of ride/handling for me), still looks new, (oh, how my girl loves those red/black leather seats and Beats sound system), and I am super-happy with it. The only thing I did was blow up the 120mph speed limiter, (tried the top end once but it was cold, so Auto-AWD was kicked in, hit 141MPH on the flat, would it have crept up to 150mph without AWD?), and replaced the crap 235/55-19" Kumho tires with 255/50-19" Conti ExtremeContact DWS06's, (exact same height according to Tire-Rack measurements, and actually a little weight savings). When I left work one day mad, my coworkers actually asked if I had a Hemi in that thing the next day. I laughed and said, "See that SXT label on the back? That means it's a Hemi wannabe." LOL But I don't know, there seems to be something special about this car...I wasn't that far behind the hemi guys...and I'm not behind the old 345HP Hemis at all. I wasn't even behind a 200? GTO when he wanted me to race, (not sure of year/engine, it had the little hood scoops), but he couldn't launch worth a poop. LOL Although the thought of adding a supercharger still enters my mind some days??? :-)
U jus gained a new sub
I love all Chargers and Challengers, I am currently on my 3rd Charger, I had an 09 SRT8 (totaled by a drunk driver), a 15 Scat (Sold in 19 to get my wife an SUV), and now a 20 GT, they have all been fantastic cars. Once the GT is paid off here in 3 years or so Ill continue to use that as my daily and have a Hellcat (or equivalent) as my "weekend" car!
Great video! Didn’t choose a side but spoke nothing but facts 💯
- V6 owner soon to upgrade 🤞🏾
The biggest gripe i have with my scatpack is that it looks like a v6. Im sure it wont be long b4 we see the widebody package on a v6. I do understand why they did it and it is a good marketing move
They changed it because no grip off the line. Wider tires Scat pack up.
I have an R/T. The v6 cannot match the sound your 392 makes. Not even close.
@@richardghio5072 yea grip is a big problem. I have 275s and it helps but the stock 245s are horrible
They will never make a Widebody on an rt or less. Not necessary.
@@richardghio5072 I would hope not. But its not like the v6 needed ram air also and if im not mistaken they made one with a ram air hood. I wouldn't be suprised if they did
Great video....I grew up on mopars and the 80's were horrible.....I like to see all the mopars on the road....get what you can afford and run with it and personalize it.....thats what I did when I traded my scatpack for my redeye....lol
Great comparison RacerX 👍No matter if it's an 8 or a 6 as long as you enjoy your car💪 personally I own all different variant of hp from turbo 4cyl to a v8 it all comes down on how you drive your car..
Your exactly right my friend
Gt gets over 30 mpg!! No rt ,scat or hellcat will do that. Makes for a great company car. I'm self employed
Racer X looking like Dr. X with the glasses on lol. Good upload as usual tho. But I just noticed no fog lights on the HellCat??
No fog lights on Wide-bodies.
Wow, finally a video I’ve been waiting patiently, LOL
Lol yes my eyes being messed up had me down and out
Thanks for this comparison!
Absolutely 🤜🔥
I still like the sound of my v6 challenger it’s not as deep but still has a slight rumble
Man if you got a rt then you would even fall more in love🤤
1k and you can put in a pretty nice exhaust that makes the V6 sound amazing. I had a hellcat guy ask me where to get one for his son's gt.
@@cljay25 nice I got a white sxt with blacktop package too
Mines a GT+ AWD. I think one of my favorite little Easter eggs in the car is that you can pop out the middle of running lights just like in the Demon's.
@@cljay25 you can get a cai and the headlamp duct tube also. I went with the mopar cai (box has hole for tube) and added the tube. The v6 loves cold air.
I have a 2021 octane red scatpack , and I think there should be some differences but it definitely doesn’t ruin my day. I had a v6 before and would have loved to have that more aggressive look.
I have the 2020 Scat
Challenger and I know the differences...that’s all that matters to me. Good video RacerX! It was not that different in the late 60s/early 70s....ya know what ya got!
Don’t underestimate the gt ! It is a good ride and it swings just good !
We will know when they hit the gas😂
@Im da Man90 I had a trumpet v6🤣
man I love this guy made me feel comfortable about my gt
this is the true definition of” your really paying the price for the engine not really the car.”
I'm a Scat pack widebody owner and a previous Scat pack owner. I like that it looks like an R/T because that's what it is. It's an R/T body and chassis with a bigger engine in it. Just like back in 70's, it's a "sleeper" car. Hellcats should look different then the rest because it's a more specialized car.
lol it’s crazy that rt owners (me) have to purchase new bumpers and a hood while a gt comes with everything... that sxt in the video is exactly how the rt comes and that’s crazy lol
I just bought a 2021 challenger sxt blacktop , and I absolutely love it! Looking to do muffler deletes and wrapping it in the future
Same goes with dodge durangos trim and options, where u can get a gt v6 with srt hood etc. I debadged my emblems on my durango srt and I came upon on a street light next to a durango GT that looked exactly like mine, color, hood and all that. After...well...let's just say he was surprised it wasnt the same as his. Lol! But we gave eachother 👍👍!
Respect 👍
Stop lying
I can't even front racerx as I have a 2014 charger rt, but I "upstyled" it with the srt8 rear bumper and side skirts, but kept the stock hemi badges on the side, and the r/t badge on the back and I get a lot of compliments from it.
Make the car your own 🔥
as long you arent upBADGING then nothing nut respect your cars probably dope
Coming from a R/T owner it doesn't matter to me, I'm just glad I have a Mopar, at the end of the day we all have the same passion, we Mopar guys and girls. Also when you hellcat guys hit that gas that beautiful 🍷🍷🍷🍷 gonna set you'll apart by a long shot, great video racer x as always
I must admit it, I laughed at the the guy with the V6 who put SRT badges on it. I'm bad. LOL.
The HUGE difference between both cars is the huge smile on your face when you step on the gas on the V8 monsters 👻
just got my camaro rs v6 10 speed auto npp exhaust 2023 almost done with the break in😁
I think its great, bring the widebody to the 5.7 charger/challengers! hell bring it to the v-6's aswell
Have an R/T and love it. Could you do a video explaining the T/A trim package. I recall dodge bringing that back in 2021
My challenger is a lemon and I'm looking if there is any CPO deals. There's a T/A rt with 9k miles for $25k what a steal. I'm waiting for my challenger to be bought back next month. If it's available I'll def get it rather then going brand new.
They all look the same on the freeway. I just look for the badging or Brembo brakes.
I love my 2018 Challenger GT. I like the old hood compared to the 2019+. Awd is amazing. I still am waiting for your awd comparison. Sxt vs awd would be nice. The awd comes with 19inch wheels, different suspension and the final drive is bigger than a sxt. 3.07 vs 2.68?
1:58 "Guess what, It's still me"
that sounds like something an imposter would say. o.O hmmm....
:-P
Don’t tell anyone 🤫😂
Love your channel and I’m a big fan. I currently own a 2020 SXT and I can tell you that I believe Dodge in all their wisdom understood that the most important difference in the higher models is about sound and performance. I would guess that by far the largest demographic of Scatpacks, 392s, and Hellcat buyers are those who first owned a V6 or RT model. As much as I like my little v6 because it looks like the “real deal”, I can’t wait until I’m able to trade it in for a Scatpack. It’s like playing HS football as opposed to the NFL. Nothing and I mean nothing sounds like a big HEMI!
PS: Also, outside of the RT, all the hoods are completely different now.
I think it's a good marketing strategy
So the general public will see them everywhere and go out a buy one.
It makes them look the most popular car on the streets.
Enjoy your videos.
Stay safe.
As an sxt plus owner i bought the car cause i loved it. Even though 300hp still isnt bad tbh
Cool video. Iam subbed.
I was a Chevy Camaro guy before but now I switched to Dodge Charger because I was looking for a rear wheel drive 4 door sports car. And I love all the different trims/engines that Dodge has. Now Iam a Dodge guy. 👍🏼👍🏼
I have no problem with this. If it keeps sells up to have the upper trim levels available to purchase. Not everyone can buy a high performance car but they can have the look. I have a '19 Charger R/T Stars and Stripes and a '20 Challenger Scat Pack. Love both but it's time to purchase a Hellcat soon. Thanks for all the great videos.
I was just at that dodge a couple weeks ago. Had bought the weatherstripping for the hood to replace the old one on my challenger
I had a 2015 Sublime green Challenger R/T. I was always getting thumbs up from the bigger brothers. Mine was louder and sat as low as there's did from the dealership.
i see all the time challengers and chargers upbadging. Whats your opinion on this and what about removing the badges all together like the R/T off the grill?
I'm down with the V6 Challenger looking like my Challenger Scatpack. The proof is under the hood anyway and that beautiful exhaust note.
They are all beautiful 🤩
My first Charger was a V6, it was reliable and i loved it. Even back in 08 it was an adult sized sedan, and Now its the only real, most likely the last, sedan on the road.
It really shouldn't matter what people think. Back in 75 I had a 68 Charger RT and a friend had a 69 Charger with a 318. His car had a racing stripe on the deck lid and mine did not. I was surprised when he told me it was a 318, but that's the way Dodge did it back then. The way I see it, Chargers look great no matter what's under the hood. If you're into these cars like most of us here, we all know what to look for to be able to tell them apart, and who cares what other people think anyway.
68 and 69 have different rear ends and front parts are slightly different so nobody mixes those up they changed something about the car’s back then ever year now they all have to be the same
I can speak with experience I just bought the Chevy Custom with the 5.3 and before I signed the papers I had the dealership install the same leveling kit as the Trail Boss but I bought my own Rims / tires all of this much cheaper than the trail boss sticker price . Sure it doesn’t have all the comforts like the Trail Boss but that wasn’t important to me . Great video racer X . Cheers
Thanks Mike.. Hope your enjoying that beast
I think there’s a lot to add into it. Greatly noticeable badges are already placed on the cars to differentiate between then. Owning a gt I don’t have shame in telling people it’s a V6 but I also want to build my car up to that horsepower level of the greater cars. The one thing I do need to say is that redeyes need to be able to be noticed easier. The little red detail in the badge just won’t cut it when there’s a 90+ hp difference.
Oh just one more comment that I forgot to mention but worth noting. There is a big difference in depreciation between the V6 and the Hemi. I discovered this when I applied for a 10 grand home improvement loan, I had to put up collateral for the loan and my old Charger was still worth nearly half what I gave for it new, my loan officer said few cars were holding their value as well as the hemis were at that time. But remember, like life, everything ebbs and flows in time. Yea I’m just an old guy but I can still own and ride a Harley, anyway great Vlog, p.s. I done repaid the dang home improvement loan and I got the title to an 06 clean R/T
My Scat Pack is unique, that’s the thing about owning a mass produced car with performance options. You have to make yours stand out, my 392 is white on white so I definitely stand out...
I think this is the first video I’ve seen that you didn’t have some type of hat on 😂
Good to know. Thank you.
For sure 👍
Not sure Hellcat motor is worth added 30k
Do you know how many times I’ve pulled up next to a GT thinking I’m about to get a quick race only to be disappointed? 😆
Bro I'm with you lol
Anyone that complains about how a v6 looks similar. Really has nothing going for them. Im more worried about how it drives than the looks.
They all look good. Whose complaining Hellcat owners?
your talking about the new GT model lineup I know exactly what you're talking about LOL
Don't the GT have AWD an thats why it sit higher ??
It’s optional. Since the one in videyhad 20s it was rwd. Nevertheless a stock hellcat suspension is still different from a GT
I had a Scat Pack Challenger and was driving 3 miles to work. I ended up getting a job 30 miles away and traded my Scat Pack in for a 2021 Charger GT (I live in California, so it's a no brainer on why I made that trade) I can't even knock my GT at all! does better on gas and for it being a V6, it does have some punch when in Sport mode. Although it's not a 392 and isn't as loud of course (which I miss), I am happy with my GT...
Makes the other trims look more aggressive which is nice
For sure
also makes the hc look less aggressive tho
@@treemcgolden6137 I mean most people don't keep these things stock. I've seen SXTs transformed to look like monsters. And scat packs that look plain as hell. Its all about what you do to these cars. Everyone has their own touch which make them awsome
Its just like for this video racerX looks like GT with glasses. And looks like Hellcat with hellcat cap and no glasses. 🤣
I was up there that day that was my grandpa's yellow ram in the back they bought the orange wideboby scat pack 😂
