Free French units in White caps and Vichy France units in regular French army uniform.
Now this is a Battle No One ever Talked about.
Vive La République! Vive De Gaulle! Vive France Libre!!
Awesome job, man ^^
Its finally have arrived, The Battle of Gabon, the suggestion that i have requested for Sturmfuhrer, The French civil war, And also they will have to liberate Paris too. Since im a Filipino i really love this.
Do we have a WW2 "Battle of Manila" game available where U.S. Army infantry, supported by a variety of tanks and AFV's (Sherman tanks, M18 Hellcat tank destroyers, M7 Priest self-propelled guns, etc.) and artillery, are pitted against well-entrenched fanatical Japanese naval infantry?
@@jefesalsero yes
12:23 in the Philippines and I'm watching this
I love it
Man, the Vichy tank crews seemed to have been sleeping on the job. The Free French pretty much didn't suffer any losses aside from a tank and a few men. Talk about plot armor. 😂
I appreciate the fact that this brief conflict is being portrayed in a videogame - awesome! However, keep in mind that the uniforms and weapons featured are not necessarily accurate - obviously, technical limitations, lack of historical photos and records, and perhaps the game's creator deciding against a deep-dive into researching the battle influenced the final product. What little information (and photos) we do have of the battle show R-35 tanks being used by the Free French forces, as is portrayed here, however there is no evidence that I have found of FT-17 tanks existing in Gabon prior to the battle or employed by Vichy French forces during the battle - appears that the Gabonese military lacked armor. There may be a stronger argument for the use of some armored cars, such as the obsolete Laffly AMD 50 (numbers of which were found throughout French colonies during this period, along with numbers of the newer AMD 80 and perhaps some early version Panhard 165's). What the Vichy French forces defending Gabon did have was artillery (this was documented), however I have not read what type of artillery they possessed, therefore I assume that the pieces would have probably been of the Model 1918 75mm gun variety - significant numbers of these were in the inventories of French colonial armies at the time. Also, the Vichy French Gabonese infantry would not have appeared wearing regular French army uniforms as featured in this game - they would have appeared in the typical French colonial Tirailleur tropical uniform of the period (more than likely wearing khaki shorts and short-sleeved shirts and wearing tropical Pith helmets and/or Fez hats (perhaps in a red, white, black, or khaki/tan color). I could imagine the Vichy French Gabonese army officers (they would be white/anglo officers) wearing Pith helmets and their subordinates (they would be black Africans) wearing Fez caps. The small arms (rifles and machine guns) would be the same as those used by the Free French during the battle, as featured in the game. One could assume that both sides had some mortars, as well. So, for the ground combat featured during the game, ideally we would see Free French forces (including Legionnaires, as featured in the game accurately, for the most part) wearing tropical uniforms (with Free French infantry wearing Pith helmets) and advancing with R-35 tanks (as featured in the game) against Vichy French Gabonese defenders wearing tropical Tirailleur uniforms and gear, and supported by a few Laffly AMD 50 armored cars and Model 1918 75mm guns. Some mortars might be nice, as well. Just my thoughts. And, as mentioned, great to see a game based on this largely unknown month-long battle of 1940!
From some additional research, I read that the attacking Free French forces consisted of French Legionnaire, Senegalese, and Cameroonian units. And I discovered a photo from 1950, posted online, featuring Gabonese infantry on parade in Libreville (the capital of Gabon). This photo, assumed to have been taken 10 years after the Battle of Gabon, could be good for reference as to the uniforms worn by Vichy French Gabonese troops during the battle. The photo shows the troops wearing the typical tropical French Tirailleur uniform (a light khaki color), but wearing pants instead of shorts. They are wearing Fez hats, as expected, however the hats are not white or light in color - it's a black & white photo, so we cannot be certain of the hat color based on the the photo, but they are definitely a darker color and do not match the color of the uniforms. One could assume that the hats are a dark red/maroon color (as was typical of so many French colonial troops of various countries during the 1930's - 1940's period) or even black.
Realmente tienes un don para crear mapas deberias hacer un modelo con campaña incluida aunque no se si eso en call of arms es posible
Looks interesting
This battle reminds me of the 2nd battle in blitzkrieg 1 burning horizons.
Best part…. And Sad part is that this Really happened…. Especially after the split with Petain.
Good news regarding casualties - it is estimated that the Free French suffered no more than 30 men killed and that the Vichy French lost less than 100 men killed (ground forces). So, casualties were quite low during this month-long battle.
Режим Виши против армии освобождения де Голля.
i installed the mods in the desc but i couldnt find the vichy french as a faction did u just use the regular french but split them up?
I edited them
French vs French. Victor, French.
French: I win either way or side.
Que chido
You must do a lot of research. Amazing.!
Yeah
French civil wars 🎉 in 1945
I didn't understand which side was Vichy France or free France
Oops. White hats are Free French
Attackers was Free French, Defenders was Vichy.
"Свободная Франция" де Голля была на стороне союзников по антигитлеровской коалиции. А режим Виши на стороне немцев. Нападающие-армия де Голля, а обороняющийся-вишисты.
