That was a very real possibility. If France was not confined to its WW1 trench warfare defensive mentality and adopted an offensive one instead, then there was a really big chance that they could have ended the war exactly when it started in 1939.
Demographically, France hadn't fully recovered from the Great War yet, so it's not that they didn't want to, but couldn't do that so easily.

An offensive like this probably wouldn't have succeeded, but it would have given the Poles more time, possibly made Stalin rethink Molotov-Ribbentrop, and taught the Western Allies some painful lessons about modern war that could have given them a few more months to sort out their military issues.

Actually France invaded Germany in 1939 and was doing good but the first battle they lost in Germany they went to mostly defensive positions and 2 thirds of the French army in 1939-1940 deserted and lost the will to fight
