They're both clearly very good tablets. I own the Tab S and my wife has the iPad which I regularly use, I'm no fan boy and I think I'm a fair judge.
Not a great deal between them - iPad has slightly better build quality, the Samsung the better screen. Neither are far enough apart for it it really matter.
What does matter to me is that 16GB isn't really enough storage for a tablet you want to load up with enough media to last a 2 week holiday. Considering that a 16GB memory card is around a fiver on Amazon, the £80 difference between the 16 & 32GB models of the iPad feels like a cynical rip off.
If that's not an issue for you, it just comes down to which you prefer - Android or iOS. There's no objective right or wrong answer to that question.
Interestingly my wife prefers to use my Tab S. Why? Because it's slightly less wide and for her is the difference between being able to comfortably hold in in 1 hand and not.
Food for thought in terms of how irrelevant technical specs and benchmarks are to non geeks...

For the past year, I've been in love with my iPad Mini Retina.
With the Galaxy Tab S though, widescreen movies just look better and (gasp) I can just drag'n'drop the movie files onto the device. No more waiting to convert them to the one format which iPads will understand, then painfully funneling them through iTunes.
The iPad is still a great device, beautifully made, and fantastic for reading PDFs using GoodReader, and I still recommend it to beginners.
But, for me, the 8.4" Tab S is just a thing of beauty. Almost the same price as the iPad, but with an SD-card slot for adding extra memory.

So let me get this straight, Samsung has more screen, more resolution, higher ppi, it HAS a mode where you can change the color intensity to either more natural colors or saturated ones and you think it shouldn't affect buying decision?? 99% would take this as a buying decision, the other 1% that don't are apple fans.

    • @EricMazariegos

What's your source for this warping incident? is it happening to everybody? or was just to one person?? Have you even seen this tablet in person? do you know how long the battery lasts regular use for this one specifically? Stability? I wont argue IOS is more stable but android can't be that bad or you wouldn't have an android phone, right? I rather have my "unstable" android tablet and phone than controling everything you do IOS. I don't have apple hardware I simply hate the software.

I have several things to point out
1.) many people do not pay attention to processor architecture.
The Arm64 architecture beats the cortex A15 by a lot
The iPad mini has a low clock rate but a great architecture
2.) they look at camera resolution more than quality.
The FaceTime HD camera has a very high quality on the iPad mini
3.) why would someone want to deal with a choppy interface for the length of a devices warranty, and have apps that do not sit well with the operating system
4.) androids have amazing processor speeds, core counts, and RAM capacity, but the operating system still has trouble running on the device.
I have an iPod touch 5g, an HTC one x +, and an iPad mini 2
Of the 2 operating systems, iOS wins in many parts
The downside to iOS is when Apple stops supporting your device, you can't get many updated apps. With android, many of the apps still support android 2.2
This is why many people choose android.

  • @ThaSinner1
    @ThaSinner1 Před 10 lety +10

I have both, iPad mini 2 LTE and Tab S 8.4" WiFi
I have to say, design wise and size wise, the tab S wins for me. Although the tab S is made of plastic, this means lighter weight and better grip.
The Super Amoled display is out of this world, however, the iPad display isn't that far behind.
And as the guy from the video said: Sam has done miracles when it comes to real time multitasking on a tablet.
And finally the quality of the apps you'll find in the app store is by far of better quality.
Conclusion: if you want better games and apps go for the iPad.
If it's multi tasking and better multimedia consumption go for Sammy.

As a user of both the iPad mini 1 and Tab S, I can say that both tablets left pleasant impressions in their best years. The films looked fine on both. The iPad surprised with exclusive apps and games, cutting-edge at the time. Tab S surprised with functionality. But already in 2019, the Ipad became absolutely infirm, most of the applications crashed when opened, and even the keyboard lagged. In difference, Tab S still works fine on stock firmware

The following comment is an OPINION:
I own both a iPad Air and a Galaxy S Tablet 10.5.. The only thing that's good about the Samsung is the screen. It takes one test to see how slow the Galaxy S Tab is compared to iPad Air: Pull up a webpage on both devices and see how much smoother the experience overall is on the iPad over the Galaxy S. Galaxy S is so laggy/choppy in pretty much everything (even with custom stripped/clean roms). Guess the iPad is still a keeper after almost a year since no Android device can seem to convince me otherwise.

1st (Great Job explaining both the iPad Mini and Galaxy Tab 8.4S). I have only a iPod Touch 5th Gen w/ IOS 8.1, an Android 4.0 Acer A200 Tablet w/ USB 2.0 connector, and a Android 4.4 Moto X cell phone. IN MY OPINION: I use my iPod Touch mostly, reasons are battery usage, size, great camera, mono loud speaker for music on the go. Google hangouts allows you to dial a phone number direct wifi calling,no direct option on my Android Moto X. The Ipad Mini is faster, smoother, but has a limited customization ( maybe to keep everything faster) and made for Vertical holding so Web reading, Browsing,Gaming,You Tube watching etc. Apple's IOS has "TRIM" built-in all Apple products. In short it keeps the SSD memory storage from slowing down over time. Google it. Android started using TRIM in Android versions 4.3, 4.4 & higher.
In short: iPads are made for browsing, games,& music. All of Apples APPS are tested before released so they are stable.
On the other side Android Tablets are catching up and now almost even with Apple's iPad, Android Apps are not all checked b/c some are open source so most are free.Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 S has a brighter and color rich screen, easy to modify the home screen is more open. This Galaxy Tab like most Android's are better for wide screen movies, You Tube, and can be more productive as a PC tablet then the iPad can.Hint Ipad speakers are on the bottom, Galaxy Tab 8.4 on the sides when placed horizontal. It all matters what you want to use it for that's what really counts.

Samsung has no resale value. Just sold my iPad 4th gen for $470 on eBay. Resale value for Samsung is going to be $50 in 3 months. Will be getting the iPad Air 2. 64 bit A8 processor will be the best out there for at least another year, that is till A9 comes out. I dont get the whole widget craze. I never used widgets on my PC or tablets and now since i got a smartwatch I don't need them on my phone either. By the way of topic if you have 5.5 inch phone a smart watch is a must have.

thats mainly bcz ppl want to upgrade. on androids side the consumers do it cuz they can and samsung is taking advantage of this (apple use to do it and still does but less often nowdays) and apple has fanboys/lovers as consumers who would gladly still use a 15yr old pc just bcz its from a nice brand instead of getting something else thats better and worthwhile. So they hold on to their devices which limits the market and doesnt saturate it for that product. In other words, less used devices for sale on the market means it will go up in used price. Supply and demand 101, mixed with obsession & unwillingness to change.

DjStiv3 I don't know how it is in America but in the UK iPhone have a higher resale value because they have a fairly hefty upfront cost when you take one on contract, where as Android phones don't.
You get about £200 for a 2 year old iPhone but you have to give it straight back to Apple for your new one.
I might only get £100 for my old Android but at least I get to keep it.

One thing regarding FPS stutter on the samsung device. We must keep in mind ios is built in objective-c. Objective-c is a much faster language than java, which android uses. So the FPS is not because of the hardware of the device, it's from the os the device is running. With time java, and more specifically android will become more optimized so that it is just like objective-c. Which will result in the same performance as ios.

What it comes down to is, IOS has more and better apps, Android has a better GUI and home page environment. So, it really depends on what means more to you, how it works and looks on the outside, or how the apps look and run on the inside. I appreciate both platforms for what they do well. That's why I have both Android and IOS devices.

Thank you for your really helpful comparison. Thoroughly enjoyed listening and watching the video. I totally love the build quality of Apple. I think it's beautiful but I'm swayed by Samsung's jaw-dropping display and the ability to increase storage capacity. I understand that the Samsung also has better sound quality.

It's actually blinking because the refresh rate on the Samsung display appears to be slower. It has nothing at all to do with resolution. Look up any videos on CZcams comparing "LCD Refresh Rates" and you'll see.

Am I wrong or does the Galaxy tab S have less performance then the tab pro in geekbench?? I'm in the market of buying a tablet, I don't care to much for customization of my screen nor gaming (have a pc for it), I want one that is easy to use, doesn't need a charger plugged in day and night (like my samsung S3). I'm getting surgery and need to lay flat most of the time for a week or 6 and tablets are easy to hold I want one ;). I'm no fanboy and open to both ipad mini 2/retina and galaxy tab 8.4 (S and pro). I watched some reviews but I'm still not clearly convinced by anyone of them.
    My main wishes:
    - Good battery life
    - Mostly used for browsing the internet or YT
    - I want to read (e-) books on it.
Does someone has (non subjective) experience with both of them for more then lets say half a day and share their findings with me.

Ipad mini's screen displays only about 80% of srgb color... The Tab S displays over 140% or the regular 100% if you choose Basic display mode. Contrast is also infinite vs the mini's lackluster 1:900. Display is higher res and larger in a smaller total body. Face it, the ipad got royally outclassed. The era of amoled has begun and samsungs lead will only widen from here.

With Tab S, you can use pen drives with an OTG; and that for me is the biggest advantage for a tablet with a great display like Tab S. You can transfer media easily to & from Tab S using USB OTG facility; and can add on storage capacity as much as you want, by adding on more pen drives. This is a fantastic facility available only with Tab S & not with iPad Mini.

Refresh rate is bad on galaxy tab (just look at the flickering). I was looking for tablets for surfing internet and reading. I am using note 3 and the UI is not great - stutters occasionally. Also calling is just another app which freezes occasionally. IMO the whole Android OS is just clunky. So this time around, I'll pass galaxy.

Well, you won't notice the difference in screen colour unless you have both next to each other, an ipad has a more grand feel and more secure, when you start getting past £300 for a tablet , even if its thinner, you at least don't want it to lag! :-)

    • @joshward4844

    • @joshydroberts
      @joshydroberts Před 9 lety

Would you like to multi task on the Internet? Cause if you do, then it's better to get the samsung tab s, but usually, i have to say, out of general experience, ios by far have a better response when opening applications and even when just using the keyboard! I've had many times when ive went to the o2 store, to review the s5,& whether you believe it or not, it had an occasional lag because of how much widgets or how much animation has been put into each screen.

    • @joshydroberts

No chance for the ipad. It can only produce pale color. And you only has these app store where everybody wants to get money out of you. I love the google play store where most what you need is for free. Additionally I dont want to spent extra money in forehand which you might get back when resell, I just keep that money right at the buy. And I dont want to be asserted with birdbrained people we all know the i-diots for.

Lol i love how everyone is fanboying apple. The only advantage the ipad has, well in my case, is its support for external usb audio devices. But in a new update for android (4.XX) they have changed that, i mean not every one is a producer right? Its not like everyone needs to use and external dac or other mixing equipment right?? and dont get me started with usb type c (it kills the lighting and thurnderbolt connectors). Lets all be honest here, apple is losing its edge. I mean look at the bending iphone 6 incident!!! And who cares about "resell" value, i buy my devices and keep them for LIFE i still have a first gen ipad, 3rd gen ipod and two iphone 4s. I also have a motorla droid x, and my galaxy tab 2 and 3. #LetsBeHonest
