I like how he said beautiful, beautiful, beautiful piece of meat for Langer's Pastrami. I wish he had gone to The Hat as well. Even though they have multiple locations they could blind fold you and you couldn't tell if you were eating a sandwich from the original or any of the other location.
Huell had that child-like curiosity on everything. He was a Southern California treasure.
Speaking from a wealth of personal experience, Langers is the _good stuff._

It's about nostalgia and allowing us to remember where we were when we first saw a given episode. As I type this our country is on fire. I had heard of Langers many times … Looks delicious … && The way Huell has his “”SMELLS “” .. We can literally smell it …. Then Johnnie’s pastrami restaurant …. DEFINITELY NOT JUDGING BETWEEN EITHER … (Have swallowing issues with my esophagus … many procedures done … So Johnnie’s is the PLACE for me … So much easier to eat shaved meats … I CAN STILL SMELL THE PASTRAMI HUELL😱💯💯❤️❤️❤️🤣😂 … How I miss our BELOVED HUELL … So GLAD / HAPPY I told my Mom about Huell before Mom passed away … Huell was at conflicting times with Moms TV … Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy … Can still see Mom .. I met him at Phillipps one day. My sister and I were getting Pastrami dips. Huell was having Ham and Eggs. nice guy, just like on TV. Swore the Ham was the best ever.

Like so many others all I can say is I miss Huell he was about as genuine as you can get. I’m glad that old Huell hasn’t seen what’s become to his beloved adopted state because it would break his heart.

I've never been to Langers for a pastrami sandwich, but I have been to Johnny's and I always enjoy their food. I grew up around the area and my family and I would eat there every other weekend and the food was so delicious! Looks like im making a special trip to Culver City in the next few days..

That being said Langers is still my favorite pastrami.
That slaw In the sandwich changed everything And that apple pie with brandy sauce is pretty choice too.

On the contrary it is not fattening. Carbs and sugars are fattening but protein and fats are not fattening, ironically. Okay the bread for the sandwich is fattening but not the meat.

Food choice is almost totally subjective. And Huell only broadcast places he liked. Thus, he didn't pan anything. Although he might not be ecstatic about the food, he found some other distinctive feature to enthuse about. My favorite Huell video is the Warner Brothers tour, which has no food in it at all.

Ok ate at both not even close Langers. Some joints do LA style pre shaved thin then boiled or cooked on flat top. Langers as good as any deli in NY what makes west coast winner on this is the double crusted rye which Katz doesn't have. Katz pastrami is a litttle better but their rye sucks. I think katz brines theirs from scratch for 2 wks. I think Langers has made for them and they just finish in steamer. Most Delis in LA Brents,Canters,nate n als don't make too much in house anymore. There was a time when delis made all meats in house from brisket,roast beef, whole roast turkey, corn beef,pastrami even tongue. Btw love Huell but he's such a hay rube when it comes to food.
Its funny I was watching this and thinking how awful that Rye bread looks at Langers. But thats just how it looked to me on tv, maybe it is very good, I havent tried. But to say Katz rye "sucks" is just ridiculous. I suspect its better than Langers. To each his own.

Deli restaurants are disappearing across the country because young people do not find deli food very appealing!

Spot. Maybe my expectations were too high as it is a very respected who’s who hot spot amongst blue collar types, but I gotta tell you, when it comes to pastrami Busy Bee’s in San Pedro is hands down the best in L.A. all due respect to Langers. :)
re the ladies at Johnnies, I was a bit perplexed by her suggesting this is better than NY but then I saw she puts pickles, lettuce and ketchup on pastrami so this lady is clearly clueless

Katz pastrami a hair better however NY rye isn't double crusted. NY has great delis so does L.A. Now all other bread in NY blows Ca. away. Double crusted rye makes a big difference in a deli sandwich see that #19 hold its structure loaded w/ slaw and Russian dressing. Watch Katz rye breaking aparr after 1 bite. Full disclosure 20yrs since ate Katz and 10 yrs Langers. Gotta revisit Langers soon.
Ehh...Langers pastrami not great. The best thing there is the rye, but they buy it from somewhere else. I think the pastrami also. Theres no good pastrami left in LA, unfortunately.
