  • Our veterinarian continues to recommend that we utilize Scour Bos 9 to try prevent Scours in our baby calves. Scours is an often fatal sickness that baby calves are susceptbile too. It causes extreme diarrhea, leading to the dehydration and weakness, ultimately leading to death. Jack lost 30 calves one year to Scours and since then, we do everything we can to try prevent Scours outbreaks. We give the Scours Bos 9 vaccination to pregnant cows 6-8 weeks prior to birth with the goal to pass on immunity to the calf in utero. Over the years, Scour Bos 9 has significantly improved the health of our calves.

Optimizer gel in the calves at birth has been working very well for us for scours and its around $3/hd

What I found up at my place is we only get scours in the calves when it's wet at calving time...keep them dri and out of the mud and no problems

Absolutely! That’s why we try to calve from Feb 15th - April 15th and keep out of the wet weather if we can, and stay on the frozen ground before it gets soft. Lots of straw and plenty of shelter.
