  • Thank you for your support! Have you ever wondered about more exotic materials for extremely strong, extremely light, high performance layups? I’m going to do a comparison between all sorts of Marine composites in this episode, Nidacore, Coosa, Divinycell, all from Carbon Core Composites! The success of my SST project was pretty unexpected; viewers like you helped pay for the fiberglass resin & supplies needed to finish this project! As a thank you, I'll be doing a new video every sunday; Sleekcraft Sundays!
    0:00 Intro
    1:40 200hp 2 stroke Mercury
    4:00 Trailer (Trash)
    5:50 Miller Time
    6:42 Vintage Iron
    7:26 Composite Samples
    11:20 How Stiff Is It?
    This episode will explore the different weights of different foams/composites, and then we will be testing their stiffness and rigidity in a sort of controlled, sort of scientific method. Together these materials should remove a lot of weight from my hull, make it stronger than it ever was originally, and capable of even more speed!
    I picked up a crazy rare ultra high performance twin tunnel hull ModVP Sleekcraft SST for $500! This was one of sleek's fastest hulls ever, and was famous for racing in the ModVP series in 70s/80s/90s before it was banned for being too dangerous! This thing is going to need EVERYTHING, but I'll show you how you can tackle all these major repairs without spending a lot of cash by doing almost everything yourself.
    If you liked this video or learned something, please check out some of my other videos and stay tuned for updates to the SST project!

    I used the carbon core compound to rebuild my transom on my bass boat and i couldn't be more thrilled with it its rock solid and 50 times stronger then the original transom when it was brand new. I definitely recommend their product.👍👍

    Last transom I did was on a balsa core Team Shadow, similar to a SuperBoat 21, I dug all the rotted balsa out and filled it with git-rot which is kinda heavy but it turned it into am "unbreakable comb" basically.

    Perfect motor for that boat. Hope to see a video of that motor when you get it on a stand. This boat will be a head turner fur'shur'.
    Needless to say keep the original graphics on the cowling.
    Hopefully you re-rig it. Look into hydraulic no force feedback steering. Used to have a 20ft Avenger with a 225 Black Max w/ jackplate and the right turn tendency was almost impossible to manage. Deathgrip on the steering wheel kind of thing.

    The composites in the boat will great weight reduction. Do a square footage of material used, and do the math with plywood. Approximate weight savings. You guys did stiffness, flexing. But with the honeycomb on the floor will it crush, or dent? Like if someone jumps in, or drops the corner of a cooler on it.
    Perfect motor for it. The 2.4's are under 400 lbs! I think the original Yamaha was over 425, with oil injection and all.

    As far as the Merc, a short mid and at least a CLE with low water pickup is going to give you the best top end. A Hydraulic jackplate would also help with better hole shots and the ability to really trim out when skipping along. Just food for thought, wish you were my neighbor! Down south, there are a LOT of guys that ran 2.0L mercs so there are a bunch of 12-15" mids with the right shafts cut to match laying around. I have a couple single ram trim clamps if you need them. Pay the shipping and they are yours for free. One is read to mount, the other had a broken pin on the ram but the ram itself is still good.

      @unoefxz Před 3 lety

      The guy I used to get stuff from was named RL, he was down south, I can find his number if you need to find a shorty mid and shaft, Might also have a local source from the Formula 1 days at the Regatta.

    • @ADDvanced
      @ADDvanced  Před 3 lety

      I'm getting a CLE with low water pickup, but a regular mid with my powerhead. If you have any leads on shortie midsections please let me know. I am getting a 20" mid with my motor, I believe. I forget which type of ram it is.

    • @unoefxz
      @unoefxz Před 3 lety

      @@ADDvanced You can also use a Bob's Nosecone to convert the regular lower to basically a CLE with low water pickup for a lot less money and a little more work. I will find RL's number this weekend for the mid and shaft, I have it somewhere. Will also call the local F-1 buddy of mine and see if he has any laying around.

      I raced 2.5s, totally different block composition, foam cast Nikasil block, Intakes, heads, flywheels, water jackets, efi is different..Thats why the 2.4 efi bridgeports and oval ports achieved 230hp and 2.5 efis achieved 260 and 280 hp. The only thing that is the same is the V6 idea. I have a 87 Shadow vt200 that I'm replacing the transom in it. Did have a video series going on my channel but all my videos went away mysteriously.... I have it all striped out and just about ready to start putting a new transom in it. Im glad you did the comparison. I have a 78 200hp Evinrude that is like preistene with low hours on it. If I had one thing to suggest for you is to ditch the old cable steering and go with hydraulic steering. So simple and pretty easy to maintain. Advantage is it takes the steering tourq out of running a high HP outboard and eliminates play in steering which is VERY critical at high speeds. I blew out my rotator cuff a month ago and surgery this month to repair and around 4 months recovery so mines on the back burner till spring. ALSO .....think I could borrow your assistant when I get back on my Shadow? 😆
