I started out with Blackmagic USB capture devices but had so many problems with them. I then went with 2 Magewell USB capture cards, so much better. Then I got a Thunderbolt enclosure and a Magewell dual PCIe capture card. That gave me the ability to capture four devices. I recently added 2 Magewell NDI capture devices, which gives me the ability to capture 6 devices at a time. I have four Video Cameras, 2 Panasonic AG-DVX200 and 2 Panasonic HC-X1000. I use the Magewell NDI capture devices to capture longer runs, over 100 feet. Everything works fantastically, I use a few year old MSI Laptop with a 1060 video card.

Latency would have been a good thing to talk about in each of your capture device pros and cons. We use only pcie capture so that the latency is as low as possible for the cost. Usb and NDI sources we have tried add too much latency. Adding a usb or Ndi HD source to our production required adding delay to the pcie inputs to keep it all in sync.

    I'm exclusively a blackmagic decklink SDI-input guy. :)
Wish I could afford a few ursa minis. :)
But I am currently placing an order for 3 Panasonic ag-cx350 cameras. Go NDI!

Yeah, very important to check your motherboard. I just spent $5700 on a new computer a week ago and found out that the two X16 PCIe slots are shared. So, if I put something in my PCIe_2 slot, the first slot with my 3090 Ti drops down to 8 available lanes. Kind of sucks, especially for the money I paid. The only other PCIe slot was a x1 slot at the bottom that is basically useless.

Tim I really need your take on this: How do I go around the fact that the vMix output is not real-time (latency) with the talent on stage; is it because of the fact that video is being processed by a CPU? Because compared to a dedicated video switcher (i.e, Atem TV Switchers) vMix's output is behind.
So I'm forced to not send the output to the Audience screens except only when I have a vMix call.
Is it a processor issue, or it's one of the disadvantages of vMix compared to a dedicated video switcher?

That mechanical difference is one of the reasons the BMD Intensity Shuttle Paperweight,... Err.... 'USB3'.. was so unreliable at launch, as the 1× slots for the USB3 expansion cards required had a 1× mechanical connection, but needed to go in a 4× slot, as the fast motherboards at the time had slower clock for the 1× slots.
It's no wonder vMix doesn't support it! 😄

They work in vMix, but you need to be able to route the smpte2110 to vMix correctly as vMix doesn't have any NMOS discoverability or registries.

I must say I regret my purchase of the Matrox VS4 card. It was definitely not one of the cheapest at the time I bought it. And then an update to the driver actually removed some of its functionality that could be restored by spending a lot more money for additional software. I simply preferred to run the previous driver. And then although it worked in windows 10 with no problem using Windows 7 drivers, the day came when an update to windows 10 caused the card to no longer function on that platform. And Matrox has no intention of updating the driver fir Windows 10.

NDI HX is garbage! We bought an NDI HX License for our Sony PTZ camera for several hundred dollars on top of the price of the camera. We did lots of troubleshooting with NDI and Sony but in the end it turns out that NDI HX is just way too compressed. NDI HX was so horrible that we got our money back for that license and we went back to SDI. We do use regular NDI and that works fine but NDI HX is a horrible quality. We can't destroy our production with NDI HX. Try before you buy so you don't get burnt.
