"Low Rider" was a top ten hit for War in 1975. My cousin who is a few years older than me used to crank it up when it came on the radio back then when I was a kid. Comedian George Lopez uses it as the theme song for his TV shows sometimes. He calls the song the "Chicano National Anthem." The band War formed in 1969 as a rock, funk, salsa crossover band fronted by Eric Burdon from The Animals. "Spill the Wine" from 1970 was their first top ten hit. Burdon left the band after two albums, but they kept dropping hits -- "Slippin' into Darkness" in 1972, "Cisco Kid" and "The World Is A Ghetto" in 1973, "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and "Low Rider" in 1975. The official video for "Low Rider" features the band jamming in a studio interwoven with street scenes from Los Angeles in the 1970's -- Adam 12 cop cars included, but mostly low riders and such.
This song was also used in the Cheech and Chong movie...."Up In Smoke"
Thanks for the info
I have their album CD, "The Best Of War, And More"........total Summertime jams......what's funny is that there are no Latinos in the band.
Music to iron your jean crease by
:--)
Simone ese!!!
Can't help thinking of the opening scene from Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke đ Awesome.
âđđšđŠ
LOL I just posted the same thing!
Soooo true....my first thought and then the small insert in Gone in 60 Seconds' đïž
That's the best! Cheech's license plate "MUF DVR".
I loved the scene when they get pulled over in their van and the cop gets high on their exhaust and asks for a bite of the hot dog on the dash lol
Brad & Lex, their "Why Can't We Be Friends" and "Spill The Wine" are next for you!!
I agree, and definitely the live version of Spill The Wine!
Me and Baby Brother.
Yes, do this!!
The Cisco kid
Spill the Wine with Eric Burdon from the Animals
"Cisco Kid," "Why Can't We Be Friends," "Spill the Wine" ... all good. "Spill the Wine" is trippy.
Watching Lex's reactions always makes me happy.
Cisco Kid, Spill the Wine, and Me and Baby Brother are some other great WAR tunes.
WAR "The World Is A Ghetto",, "The Cisco Kid",, "Slippin' Into Darkness",, "Spill The Wine",, "Summer",, "All Day Music",, "The Gypsy Man",, "Four Cornered Room",, "Me And Baby Brother",, "City,, Country,, City" & "Why Can't We Be Friends"
Indeed! Summer is my personal fav though.
Lee Oskar just shines on Gypsy Man. Incredible harmonica player.
@@Lige Agreed 100%
I used to skate pools and skate parks (Oxnard's Endless Wave) listening to "Me & Baby Brother" in 1978. Good ole mumbo (Colombian Gold) was the shit while skating. I'd love to go back in those days and stay there.
All of those songs MUST BE HEARD!!!
War is another rabbit hole band: Spill The Wine, Slippinâ Into Darkness, Me & Baby Brother, The Cisco Kid, The World Is a Ghetto, City Country City, Summer, Galaxy, Why Canât We Be Friends, Cinqo De Mayo.
It also has to be said that this song is a real sleeper wrt to its production. It's not flashy, but all the parts are sonically very well woven together.
The Holy Grail of cruising songs since the early 70's.
Huge Hit in the mid 70âs for this LBC Band throughout SoCal. HUGE. Still played on Radio stations, and used in Films, Commercials, &, Sports Venues to this day.
It really isn't a "silly", song at all.I used to play it when driving around in my 63 Impala lowrider.
I'll never forget taking my 4 year old nephew to church one day, he requested "Low Rider" at request time. đ€Łđ€Ł The song leader and everyone else busted up. (It wasn't in the hymn book so he had to choose another oneđ€Łđ€Ł)
More WAR Please. Slipping into darkness. All day music đ¶ City-Country-City. The World is a Ghetto. Four Corner Room. Me and baby Brother. Gypsy Man. War is in my top 4 of all time
Low Rider was a major hit! Look up what low-rider means and you will understand the song. It is definitely about a cultural influence related to modifying cars to a certain style/look.
Grew up in LA at the time this was out. It's just a great, fun song. Everyone knew the whole low rider movement. It's still a thing, gorgeous cars that do tricks. đđđ
Nothing like making a right turn on 3 wheels. I dated a guy who was involved in that industry. I went to "Hop" competitions. This was in the mid-90s, SoCal.
One of my favorites growing up. I still have the vinyl LP that I bought on the day it dropped. Yes, Iâm that freaking old. Lol. âđœ
Classic jam , lowriders were considered very gangsta back in the day and so was this tune, there's a banging metal version by Exodus too.
This was the Anthem of Southern Cali when I was growing up in the 80s. Car shows and low riders, good times.
I was born and raised in California †I remember the low riders would be showin off their cars and blasting this tune! Actually we all loved it...reminds me so much of home lol đ
My first time hearing this classic song was in the opening scene of Cheech And Chong's "Up In Smoke"....."Hey Man, is that a joint or a quarter pounder, dude!?"
Looks like a toothpick, man.
"Deliver the Word" " "The World is a Ghetto" "Smile Happy" "Cisco Kid" "Southern Part of Texas" WAR is part of our western Americana. And BRAD your better half LEX ? Is so Adorable !!!! True eye candy.
This takes me back to the early 70s when I was about 17 years old. More great music in the 60s and 70s. Nothing compares to that era.
I remember a bar with pool tables in southern California in the late 70s, where the clientele couldn't get enough of this song.
This is a song from the group "War." They write and record music like all famous Bands. People and companies that make products, pay a fee to use popular songs in their commercials. This was not written for a commercial. It was used in various TV shows, movies, and probably a commercial or two.
"Today's kids...I tell ya."
This song is damn near 50 years old and timeless! You should listen to some other songs by them. Slippin' Into Darkness, Deliver The Word, The World Is A Ghetto, Cisco Kid, Why Can't We Be Friends, All Day Music and City Country City are some of my favorites. WAR has a vast catalog of hits! This just scratches the surface!
Galaxy is another one.
Yes! It's out of sight.......it's goooone! It's gone! Definitely another one of my favorites! đŻ
YES,, There Is A Music Video For "Low Rider" That Also Features WAR Performing.
A Low Rider is a car that is tricked out with special struts that makes the wheels rise, lower and bounce, hence the name Low Rider đ
I swear, Lex has to be the happiest person on CZcams.
"TIME HAS COME TODAY" - The Chambers Brothers.... album version... Lex will Flip Out
One of our friends wrote this song. He was in War and is the singer on it. Howard Scott, lives in the DFW area now. đđâźïžâ€ïž
When I was a little kid in the 70s this band would rehearse at the local beach where my mom took us⊠a place called the the Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach CAâŠ.
they also practiced in a garage across the street from poly high school
This was also the opening song for every stoners favorite movie "Up In Smoke" with Cheech & Chong 1978 & was the theme song for the TV show George Lopez with his fine ass wife Angie {Constance Marie} - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ââź
Haha! I love this at the start of Up In Smoke. Pedro's Love Machine. Cheech can barely see over the steering wheel lol
@@gavinyoung7085 hahaha I know, great movie from my youth!
War appeared on The George Lopez Show and performed this song.
@@rickyallen7176 thats right, forgot about that! Love me some War!
I'll bet Lex is a blast at a party!đ
You made my day with this reaction. You got me smiling. đ
WAR is timeless
The soundtrack of my youth! Great times!! âSilly dance movesâ? WTF?? đđđ€Łđ€Ł Young people todayâŠthey just donât know what they MISSED! âđ»
Lol he was describing the Watusi, which Iâve never seen anyone dance that to this song. đ€Łđ
"Slipping into Darkness" is a much better song IMO. "Four Cornered Room" is too.
Sometimes I wonder if people in other parts of the country even know what a low-rider is.
If you were from SoCal, you couldn't live so long and not know this song.
At the time I didn't know what it was but the idea spread across the continent from California.
Everyone's remembering Up in Smoke, but I always think of Dazed & Confused.
This song reminds me of the movie Gone in 60 Seconds with Nicholas Cage.
War was one of those 'chill' groups, especially with Eric Burdon. Check out their song 'Spill the Wine', it's got the coolest, chillest vibe you can ever hear. It's one of those songs that narrated, it tells a story.
Glad to see that y'all are doing good. I dig your channel alot. Keep on keepin' on! đ€đđș
I always think of Up in Smoke
@@Tateorsomething oh man you're right. I haven't seen that movie since 'nam. đ
Both come to my mind....classic đïž
A little pre-Eric Burdon WAR. Probably my all time favorite WAR song, except, "Livin' In The Red", Summertime", "The Cisco Kid", "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "Me and Baby Brother", etc. So many great songs.
O.G, of O.G! And yes there's a video. When you see the smiley face, you got the right one.
"Slipping into Darkness" by them is another great tune.
Carlos Santana has a brother named Jorge who was in a group called Malo in 1971 they released this amazing song called Suavecito
the singer.... In 1980, Charles Miller was stabbed to death in Los Angeles during a botched street robbery. To this day, no one has been arrested or prosecuted for his murder. At the time of his death, he was living in Hollywood with his wife, Eddy Miller, daughters, Annette and Laurian, and his sons, Donald and Mark. He also had a son with another woman, Joseph Charles Newton.
This song is huge favorite of mine. Thanks, cats.
Maybe one of their most identifiable songs. The low riders are the cars driven in California with built in hydraulics to raise or lower the car. This song is used in a cheech and chong movie called "up in smoke. My band always gets a great reaction when we do this song. Everyone knows it. Other cool songs are "Spill the wine" , "Cisco kid" , "The world is a ghetto" Eric Burdon of the animals was one of the founders of War. Oh yeah, another great tune "Why can't we be friends?" Hows the guitar thing going?
Why Can't We Be Friends is probably they're most famous song...Spill The Wine is a collaboration they did with The Animals lead singer Eric Burdon...another classic
Magic mountain too :)
Lex be plugged đ into the songs. đ
Brad looks confused at times. Thinking đ€ to hard. đ.
Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke opening tune...... an absolute classic....song and movie
Used as the theme song for The George Lopez show
It was a hit YEARS, perhaps decades, before it was used in a commercial.
Good old days sitting in your friend's crib listening to music and having a good time the seventies were great!
I've actually heard blues travelers do a 20 minute jam version if this live that's pretty trippy, but it mostly makes me think of Cheech and Chong.
"Hey man... is that a joint?!" Cheech & Chong "Up In Smoke" :]
Cisco Kid - Spill the Wine - GOLD!
War:
* Why Can't We Be Friends
* The Cisco Kid
* Slippin' Into Darkness
My favorite scene in a Cheech and Chong movie...lol...The beginning...lol
Up in Smoke made this song famous lol
This song (and the band, War) was famous waaay before Cheech and Chong were household names.
Thank you, This band needs to be recognized again. you'll be suprised as you go through their catalog at how much they're sampled
Take a car, get Al, chopped and channeled and you cruise. Donât drive fast because you will bottom out on every little bump in the road. Only thing missing is the fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view and fringe around the windows. Welcome. To the late 60âs - early 70âs.
Actually a really important and well known song. You know it already simply because of how good it is. Catchy. :) Thanks for the great channel! So much more music out there!
Low Rider by WAR
appears in over 18 feature films and countless television shows, including, "Up in Smoke," "Friday," "Dazed and Confused," "Blood In Blood Out," "Colors," "Beverly Hills Chihuahua," "21 Grams" and "Gone in Sixty Seconds
My dad had this on 8 track and we'd drive around in his 69 Charger rocking out in the 70s. Great memories. My dad LOVED War.
Whoever did the lyric video cut of the the long holding note of the trumpet. One of those things you wait for.
You'll be surprise how many songs from the 60's and 70's were used in commercials.
Such a cool song!
This is the theme song from the George Lopez show.
War had a string of wonderful hits in the early to -mid-1970s. Funky as hell.
You 2 crack me up! Yâall are definitely younger than myself, and Iâm pretty sure this came out before I was born. That being said, itâs fun to watch the 2 of you experience new/old things .
This song came out in the 70s⊠I remember it being played on the radio as a kid.
Thereâs such a great little movie that was made for this song in East LA- with the band!
This song was recorded in 1874 and released in 1975 it was also on the sound track of gone in 60 seconds
Lex is right - this was used for commercials here in the UK... For Marmite, of all things. It's also in the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds - it's the pump up song Nic Cage and the gang listen to befoee they go heist a bunch of cars.
I love Lexâs reaction â„ïž
Lex's reactions bring joy to the world no matter what song. And Brad's intelligent break downs of songs balances your reaction videos. LOVE this channel. And of course, your other channels as well.
There actually is a music "video". Early on, some bands would make promo films. MTV was still over a decade away. I'm sure it's on YT. Basically, it shows the band and L.A.
The way the various rhythmic elements weave, mesh is genius! The groove, the bass, Lee Oskar's harmonica, kiddin' me?
"Shake 'em, sweetcheeks", said everybody. Looked in their shared office on Sunset(?), '78. Ghettospoon, War and Jimmy Witherspoon. Saw John Sebastian in Guitar Center. Left quietly. Kids can be such snobs, musically, despite their vast ignorance. I was for too long. Taste it all. It's good, a lot of it, go figure.
Every time I hear this one I think of Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke.
Me & Baby Brother! The World Is A Ghetto; Slippin Into Darkness; Cisco Kid.
Great Band!!!
Back in the day in the seventies, low riders were really popular.
Cheech Marin wiping down his ride at the beginning of Up in Smoke - Love it!
Low Riders are the cars with the hydraulics that can make their cars go up, down and bounce.
It's s whole culture and has been around a very long time.
This was released in 1975, and though itâs been used in commercials, itâs not from commercials.
No one has mentioned Galaxy, thatâs an underrated gem
Metal band "Exodus" recorded a geat cover!
Lex you and your little giggling laugh, you are like a sunshine pixie, so happy :) âđ§
Love it, brings back Good Memories!!!
Lex's cuteness factor is off the charts on this one!!
its different watching new generations checking out us ol generation shit, this song was a way of life when i grew up,defenitley gnangsta
The world needs more of Lexâs pure musical joy! Rock On!
Latin jazz funk rock. Great group. Reggae, salsa mix. Southern Cal band with black guys and Mexican guys. Fun music. See their videos too. Saxophone đ· solo at the end cut short tho. đ "Cisco Kid" is another great song from them. 70s and 80s. Ya. OG gangsta lowrider music lol. Many great hits from them. Huge especially in southwest US states. Cali, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona. Mexico too. Song has been on TV and radio forever. Songs are sampled often by rap groups. Exodus a metal band covered this song too. Used to think it was ZZ Top singing this song when we were kids đ Ohio Players is a band similar to War. Same as the band Redbone. Check em out
Every time I hear this song I think of Cheech & Chong's movie "Up In Smoke". Also Check out their songs "Spill The Wine" "Cisco Kid" and "Why Cant We Be friends".
This was an instant classic from the day it was released and has been used in every context you can imagine ever since.
I think this was on Cheech&Chong..Love this song.JANET KARBER
WAR is an LA band. BBQ with them in 70's..coolest dudes ever!!! Check out "OUTLAW" great tune!!
I saw War with Eric Burden in concert 1970. It was one of the best concerts I have seen. They were so good.
We used to cruise on Friday and Saturday nights up-and-down Hollywood and sunset boulevard. Everybody would have this on their radio.
This song was used as the opening of the George Lopez show came out in the mid to late 70s or early 80s.
Hell yeah!!!! I LOVE this song!!!!!
Reminds me of Cheech and Chong!!
Kick the tires....and light the fires y'all!!!
