What is a MOBA?
Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas, or MOBAs for short, originated as a sub-genre of the RTS (Real-Time Strategy) genre. Because of this, in most MOBA games, the player takes control of a single character from the isometric (top-down) view akin to most RTS games. Typically, in MOBA games, a player takes control of a single character on one of two teams. Those players choose characters that all have their own abilities, or “kits”. To win, the players must use a combination of abilities, teamwork, and strategy to not only best their opponent, but destroy the opponents main structures. A bonus to the genre is that most MOBAs are free games, which is definitely a contributing factor of the their massive success. The genre has many titles, the largest of which being Defense of the Ancients (DoTA) and DoTA 2, League of Legends (LoL), and most recently SMITE!
What is SMITE?
SMITE is one of the more recent free MOBA games to enter the fray. In SMITE you don’t just choose a character, you choose a god. You’ll instantly feel an attachment to characters like Thor and Zeus because even if you don’t know the lore behind them, you’ve at least heard their names before! What makes SMITE so immersive is Hi-Rez Studios’ inclusion of historical lore into the gods’ abilities, kits, and play styles. Thor and Loki aren’t just characters from Marvel comics and movies. They’re also a part of Norse mythology and you can take control of them in SMITE!
What makes SMITE different?
SMITE takes all of the strategy of the top MOBA games and adds another layer of difficulty by putting you into the action! Unlike most MOBA games, SMITE offers players the chance to experience the MOBA genre they know and love from a third-person perspective. This unique perspective allows for an extremely immersive experience unlike any other game in the genre. While this doesn’t sound like such a big change, once you play it you’ll understand! All of these things added together is what has gaming websites everywhere continually rating SMITE as one of the best MOBA games available!
This has to be the most iconic smite video for me idk why but the music, the Plays and the nostalgic its too much for me

Awilix ult may be the funniest, gratifying, hilarious, and rage inducing thing in all of smite. She's one of those gods with a balanced kit and is perfectly fair, yet they have this massively op ultimate
The skill gap makes up for it though
+Flowing Liquid awilix is balanced. Her damage is high and she's a bit easy to play, however she's very easy to deal with with a competent support.
Amazing as everything is from Weltzeit!
I fking love this editing style. The camera movement with music and the plays giving me tears in my eyes and makes me hyped! Keep it up.

I feel as though there was over emphasis on the edits, which led to the gameplay footage being marginalized. I think the first week spl top plays had a perfect balance.
+Edwin Ramirez I think that's because the plays last week were better overall. Which of course happens, I'm just surprised the first week was so impressive.
When you have to highlight a nu wa ult, you know there wasn't enough hot plays.
Edwin Ramirez Dude come on it is the single hardest skill shot to land in the whole game!
+Sparda Neith ult is the only thing that comes close to it at being hard to land.

I liked the music for this one more!! As an EDM lover Frame of Mind seemed too chilled out for the plays of week one. I love these highlights though, they're a great addition to the SPL!! :D

So in that Luminosty vs Envy game there were crazy plays by Luminosity yet you show some Envyus plays that were decent?
That's exactly what I was thinking... The chase from Jeff with Athenas passive, the triple from BaRRaCCuDDa, the double taps from Andi...
It is so annoying to have 30 seconds intro and 5 seconds gameplay for each one of the plays... makes no sense.
It's the pro league not like top 5 plays.

Actually, in pro league the game play is even better. So one would think that showing more gameplay would be even better.
+ShadowDatsas if you wanted commentary, watch the full video. It doesn't make sense for him to spend time mixing the video and doing additional commentary that is likely repetitive. Plus he's already busy producing and mixing other videos for Smite like the top five.

Too much over-editing and not enough aerial setup of each play. It's hard to know how things got started. Even just a brief aerial view before each of the clips shown here would give a LOT more context.
