    In blues overbends are very useful: on the 1st and 4th chords (6*), on the 1st (-7* very difficult to adjust), on the 4th (1* - a tricky one, 4*,5*) and on the 5th chord (-9*), all in all, flat 3rd one is the most important and i love it!

      Overblows are tricky to learn, they take a bit of practice (and that can take some time, no rush) - but eventually they are not any harder than the other bends.

    Man good job. I'm 51 and have always loved the harmonica and have bought 3 or 4 throughout the years and I'd try for a while and quit. I just never could get the hang of playing it. Now would this mean I suck to much to blow? Lol nice harmonica collection!! I really liked the fact you have your grandfather's harmonica!!! That's awesome

      Thanks Scott :)
      If you happen to have one of those harmonicas around still give this one a go

    position overblow notes need for me.lovely brother🙏

      In 2nd position, I often used hole 6 overblow. That gives the flat 3rd of the scale (same note as 3 draw 1/2 step bend)

    I've got a Seydel session standard. I want to overblow on the 6th and 7th holes. Will it OB out the box? What's the best overblow-ready non-customized harp?

    • @MonsoonMal
      @MonsoonMal  Před 5 měsíci

      I don't see a lot of Seydel's here in Australia. The one I have is highly customised.
      But it may well overblow 6 out of the box - most decent stock harps these days will. 7 over draw is less common and often needs the reed gaps close a bit.
      I don't know if there is a "best" overblow ready non customised harp, possibly an Arkia Signature

    I can overblow, but I don't even use them that much.😎

      In 2nd position I love the hole 6 over blow. Giving you a flat 3rd to play 2 octaves of pentatonic scale, really usefull.

    • @patrikduller8449
      @patrikduller8449 Před rokem +1

      @@MonsoonMal Yeah, basically all I use them for (and I'm using stock harps) is to bring some licks I do down below up to the higher octave. For example all the notes in the 2 hole draw and then use the 5 overblow to do the same thing higher up there.

      @JBCavern Před rokem +1

      Thanks for pointing that out. I'm still learning and can bend and have hit a few overblows but have wondered when I'll need overblow. I think I need to improve my bends and then move on the tongue blocking first.

    • @MonsoonMal
      @MonsoonMal  Před rokem

      @@JBCavern Sounds like a great plan. I got really frustrated because I couldn't play a chromatic scale in the middle octave - now that I can I rarely want or need to do that lol

      @patrikduller8449 Před rokem +2

      @@JBCavern Another thing with overblows is that even if you can do them, they will never sound as expressive as a bendable draw, so if you really need powerful sounding notes, sometimes it might be ever better to change tuning and use a country harp or Wild Tuning to get the desired note without having to overblow. It would be apleasure to see you on my own channel, if I may be so bold LOL.😀
