  • What's the best KZ earphone? Dude I don't know, but I've got three of them here and I spent a week listening to them against my reference playlist to figure out which one I like the best. And I try my best to describe them so you can figure out which you'll like the best.
Warning: I repeatedly call ZSA and ZS10 headphones by the wrong names (KSA and KS10). I blame the naming scheme 🤭 Apologies.

    Update.
My friend tried the ZS10 and AS10. He was floored with the midrange performance of both. With the ZS the highs weren't as elevated as the AS. The boosted bass on both was a bit too much for him.
He also could hear the difference with and without a proper amp. With an amp the music sounds fuller.
    Edit. Feb28
OK now I know why my friend got goosebumps. The midrange has a warmth which sounds very very good with vocals. The KZ ZS and AS10 sound very good with Adele and Lana Del Rey or male vocals like Allan Taylor.

    First impressions.
AS10 and ZS10 sound really great. With Oehlbach Usb Bridge (dac) and Ifi Iematch they sound even better. I bought Comply tips, because the standard tips won't stay in my ears.
Because the lows, mids & highs have there own drivers, one doesn't bleed into the other. Everything is well defined. They still don't have the resolution of my highend headphones.
The AS10 bass is fast and not to elevated. The ZS10 bass is boosted and a bit boomy/not precise. Both sound V-shaped as mentioned. And as mentioned in the review the ZS10 has a wider stereo image than the AS10, which results in a better separation of instruments. The AS10 is more sensitive/efficient than the ZS10.
    I enjoy them both.

I bought the ZS-10, before I realized there was a model above. I've been into audio for 50 years and have owned some pretty great gear. I think they sound pretty damn good. Plenty of bass and I don't notice a tipped up high. The mids maybe a bit scooped, but that is not a bad thing IMO. I ran a frequency test tone sweep and I could hear down to 25hz, so they don't lack bass response. Are they a Westone clone for a 10th price? No but they kill my $150 pro Shure in-ears. For me they fit great. As primary use is for in-ear monitors for live music, I like the over the ear wire thing. Allows the cable to go down the back into the monitor receiver. I do prefer the robust single pin connector on the Shure vs the fragile 2 pin connector on these. Since they are so cheap, I'm gonna get the AS10 and see if even better. In general, I'd say KZ knocked it out out the park. These crush typical consumer in ears.

the included eartips on the ZS10s is shyte. I had to use my broken JBL earphones eartips just to be able to get a good fit in my ear and have a good bass. His review is on point that the eartips are not secure and could possibly be lost because it lacks the ridges, now my problem is how on earth I would make my JBL eartips locked firmly with the earphones since everytime I remove it from my ear, the eartips is left on my ear. My JBL earphones has this ridges that makes the eartips secure in place and lock em with the earphones, the ZS10s for one doesn't have that. Ugggh. It sounds good so long as its firmly in the ear.The included eartips and even the spares are shyte. I am now looking for my other JBL eartips as im pretty sure I'd be losing my current JBL eartips on this IEM.

I use the zs5 with my note8 and tidal. At first it was shrill and pearcing. After a month the sound became insanly good! They have some flows but some vocals sound insanly holographic with the zs5. With some tracks the sound is outrageously good and the soundstage is amaizing!
Still sometimes there are flaws like compression specially on the very high freq. , "small" instruments and bad tonality. Still usually it sounds good or crazy good.

About the hooks: When you say you dont need the to secure the fit, you very obviously are not a frequent runner. When you run a couple of miles, you will have to press them in over and over again because they will come out through the constant sudden pulls on the cable. It also could pull out the connector over time. When your ears get hot and sweaty and waxy, its even easier for the to slip out because of reduced friction. So the hooks are very very helpful. Plus you can just cut that plastic open and pull it of the cable if you really dont need them. But i would rather have the choice.

    • @SuperReview
      @SuperReview  Před 2 lety

Not sure what I said in this video, but I definitely prefer having hooks, I just don't like having to mold the metal hooks -- I prefer the hooks to be pre-formed.

@@surprisedpotato if the AS10/ZS10 are intended to be IEM's, there are many things wrong with it. Here's a list:
-They have way too much upper bass (100-400Hz), but then somehow lack response at 1kHz by a lot
-There's a weird boost at 3-5 kHz, exceeding the target response completely
-Treble response is extremely grainy with many peaks in the highs (especially at 5, 7 and 12 kHz)
-The drivers are not in phase; This may be expectable, but can easily be fixed from KZ's side
Rtings has provided some frequency response measurements of both these Chi-Fi headphones, it is worth to be looked up.
All in all, both the AS10 and ZS10 sound unpleasant, grainy, boomy, unnatural and dry when compared to a real monitors, like the in ear Etymotic ER4's or and over ear HD600s with the Sonarworks profile.
What gets me the most is, that the 10$ Sony MH-1 from almost 10 years ago have a much better sound than this. It has much more sparkle, not as boomy, and almost no grainy response at all. Of course they are not perfect either, but completely blow away all this KZ crap.

I like the stiff wire because it damps out noise from wire handling, or at least it can. Give the SpinFit ear tips a try. When removing the IEM, leave the music playing so you can tell when you have broken the seal. Push the IEM up, down, front or back until you loose the bass. Then you can pull them out with minimal risk of leaving the tips in your ear. Keep up the good work. I love my ZSR's IEM's, but skip the early Bluetooth cables (those without APTX). They have poor range, poor runtime, dropout issues where other such modules play just fine and just do not have the quality of KZ's IEM's.

The balanced armature drivers generally cover a smaller range of the spectrum (so having a few helps cover the spectrum), and do not actually "move air" like a typical speaker. The dynamic driver will perform better in combination with all these balanced armature drivers because the one dynamic driver can focus on being a subwoofer. In theory, you will have less distortion because the dynamic driver can focus on what it does well.

I get it, I just think it's unnecessary -- when the buds get a good seal, they're not falling out, and frankly the moldable wire holds worse IMO than pre-curved wires like on the TRN V80.

I got the ZSAs. I like them. First high end ear bud I have ever purchased. I am not happy with the seal of the ear tips. Slip out all the time. When you try to push them in it is uncomfortable. I have ordered some foam ear tips from Comply Foam tips. I am hoping that these new tips perform as promised and seal the sound and stay in a long time.

I found a pair of nice sounding ear buds from Amazon for $16 and i had the ear tips get stuck in my ear 3 times so i ended up putting a dab of super glue because I didn't want it to get stuck in there. My son is a worship guitarist and he uses Sure SE 215 IEM with 1 Armature Driver and those ran about $100 so I am going to tell him about these 5 driver ones you demoed, $70 is pretty cheap because 5 armature driver's can run you a good starting price of about $1,500.

The ZSAs are the smallest KZs I have. BUT the stems on the ZSAs seem about the same size as the stems on other KZs -- the stem is the part that fits into your ear canal. If you're looking for a headphone with a really narrow stem, you might look at the Final E2000 or the NuForce EDC3.

first saw this today.. so it might be too late.. but.. AS10s are way more sibilant than the shure.. but also have way better and solid bass response.. as a vocalist i would recommend the Shure.. just take the SE215.. the 315 are not worth the extra money.. the fit of the AS/ZS 10 i also not good in most ears.. if youre a drummer: get the cheap ZS3 !.. get em while you can.. I use these almost in every studio session.. And I have expensive Shures also.. but the ZS3 are just more fun .. and the bass (low toms and kick) is just way easier to hear.

I will try them too.. dont say I dont try! ;-)
