Forward vs reverse mode on e file | It's not just about which hand you're working on

  • Hi lovelies, I hope this finds you all keeping safe and well. Apologies for not having done a video for so long. We've been moving house and things have been a little crazy, but we're getting sorted now. My hands and nails are still recovering from the move, so we're not doing a design today. Instead I thought I'd do a video on which direction your e-file should be in: forward or reverse. It's not just about which hand you're working on. I hope you find this helpful, and as always, thanks for watching! xx

    Great video thank you so much. Kindly asking if you can do a video specifically on how to use the e-file to shape natural nails ( rounded nail tips not square). I’m new to doing my nails with an e-file.

    • @NailsbyZoeH
      @NailsbyZoeH  Před rokem

      Hi Arguella, I'm glad you found the video helpful. I don't use my efile to shape my nails, I always do that with a hand file, I find it more precise for shaping. I use a 180 hand file, then smooth over the free edge with a buffer. This smooths the free edge and removes any bits of nail debris that resulted from the filing. I'm happy to do a video on that if you like? 😊 💜💜

    So helpful! Does it matter if you use a right or left handed drill bit? I never knew the difference or if it mattered if you are just reversing direction on your machine

    • @NailsbyZoeH
      @NailsbyZoeH  Před rokem +1

      Hi Rubyjinxx, I've never used specific right or left handed drill bits. Because I change hands and direction when I'm using my efile, I use the generic ones. That way I don't need to change bits each time I swap hands, and so far I haven't had any issues. Not sure that helps you much sorry, but I honestly haven't tried them. Thanks for watching and commenting😊 ❤️

  • @RocketKira
    @RocketKira Před rokem +1

    Here's my issue, my e-file doesn't specify which is forward and reverse and now idk which one it is, clockwise or counterclockwise rotating

    • @NailsbyZoeH
      @NailsbyZoeH  Před rokem

      How do you switch between forward and reverse on your e-file? If it's a slide switch, forward is usually on the left and reverse on the right (on the models I've seen anyway). If it's a push button like mine, if there's no light, it's in forward mode. The light comes on when it's in reverse mode. Best to Google your e-file model and find out. You'll know if it's in the wrong direction when you use it. It feels wrong, and your bit will want to slide around your finger because it's going the wrong way. Just make sure you're on a very low speed and using a harmless bit (like a cuticle bit) until you know you're working in the right direction. Definitely don't use high speed or a course bit until you're sure. ;)

    Does forward mean to the right and reverse to the left? So, forward is spinning clockwise?

    • @NailsbyZoeH
      @NailsbyZoeH  Před rokem +1

      Hi Emily, yes, the drill bit spins in a clockwise direction when the efile is in forward mode, and anticlockwise when in reverse mode. Thank you for watching 😊❤️

    Awesome video, thank you!!! What if you are working on someone else's hands?

    • @NailsbyZoeH
      @NailsbyZoeH  Před rokem

      You're welcome, glad you found it helpful 😊 The same principles apply: if you're working right to left across the nail, your efile should be in forward mode. If you're working left to right across the nail, you should be in reverse mode. If you're working cuticle to free edge, it's going to depend if you're left or right handed. If you're using your right hand, you should be in forward. If you're using your left hand, you should be in reverse. You'll soon know if you're working in the wrong mode as your efile will want to slip and you'll feel like you're fighting it. If you're unsure, start with a gentle bit (such as a cuticle bit) on a low speed. Hope that helps 💜💜

  • @mswifeycatlady7583
    @mswifeycatlady7583 Před rokem

    Also, my efile, when going from cuticle to free edge, and using my left hand, it needs to be in forward..?
    And the opposite for when I use it with my right hand.
    Otherwise the drill bit is turning ‘towards’ me (I think my drill is dodgy lol)

    • @NailsbyZoeH
      @NailsbyZoeH  Před rokem

      Hmm I'm not entirely sure, as I use generic bits that aren't specifically for left or right handed, but it sounds about right for a left handed bit to be in forward mode when working cuticle to free edge on your right hand. Is it a fine or coarse bit? Might be worth trying a fine bit on a low speed and see how it feels. It usually feels wrong pretty quickly, and if you're on a low speed with a fine bit, that shouldn't cause any damage 😘

      Can you tell me please what is the reason that i cant work with foward? 🥺

    • @NailsbyZoeH
      @NailsbyZoeH  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi @@somayamohammadi4863 , to avoid slipping, make sure you're working in the correct direction. You should use forward if you've got the efile in your right hand and you're moving from the right side of the nail to the left side of the nail; or if you're moving from the cuticle down to the free edge. Never move side to side without lifting your efile, this will also cause slipping. Put your efile down on the right side of your nail, move it to the left, and immediately lift the efile. Start again on the right side - do not go right to left to right without lifting the efile as it will slip. You could also have the speed up too high and be losing control of the efile, or be using the wrong type of bit. Just a few suggestions for you :)

  • @carolynfalta9188
    @carolynfalta9188 Před rokem

    Is the direction also true if your nailtips are facing away from you (hand out flat). Would it be left hand forward/right hand reverse?

    • @NailsbyZoeH
      @NailsbyZoeH  Před rokem

      Hi Carolyn, hmm that's an interesting one. I don't file my nails that way, so I'm not 100% sure, but I would think not, as your efile is travelling in the opposite direction than in the video. If you're filing with your hand flat and your free edge facing away from your body, I would think you'd need to be in reverse for your left hand and forward for your right. Best to try a gentle bit (like a cuticle bit) on a low speed until you're sure. You'll soon know as the bit will want to slip if it's going the wrong way.
      I think it would be harder to control the efile filing that way and it would be easier for the bit to slip. Have you tried filing with your hand facing you? I think it would give you better control.
      Thanks for watching 💜💜
