  • Not everyone has the desire or budget to purchase a $500-$1,000 smart trainer. But if you want to ride Zwift, Sufferfest, TrainerRoad, or any other online interactive cycling apps, you can still get by without a smart trainer. In this video, I share my budget trainer setup that I have used for several years. For roughly $200-$250, you can get a Zwift-compatible setup for your non-smart cycling trainer. It's not as good as a full smart trainer setup, but it's significantly cheaper. If $200-$250 is still too much money, I offer some other tips.
    Even if you're suffering on the indoor trainer, remember to enjoy your ride!

    Nice vid! I used to use a Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer years ago, kinda regret selling it after moving to Colorado. Good tips on the setup, might get back into indoor use at some point. Nice Lemond! My girlfriend has an old Lemond as well that she refreshed with some new parts.

      Over the years, I've thought about selling it numerous times, but I keep finding uses for it. Commuted on it for a while. Then it was the only bike I had that was compatible with the kid's trailer. Now, it's the dedicated trainer bike. I've definitely got my $670 out of that bike!

    Very similar to my setup. I have had a lot of indoor trainers. The cyclops fluid feels more like a real road ride than any other i have tried. My Lemond Tourmalet became my trainer bike with a garmin computer just like you. The only other thing i added is power pedals. I bought Garmin Vector's to go back and forth between my endurance bike and trainer when seasons change.

    Good tips on getting in the game. I bought a $500 smart trainer and knew it was a real gamble but I did end up liking it. I’m definitely someone who only uses it when I really don’t want to go outside though - cold rain, extreme freezing, or lack of time. If I was serious about training I would use it way more.

      Definitely the most efficient way to train, but way less fun.

      Hey there! I just came across a new project called freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike and it seems pretty interesting. I noticed in the article that this eBike has a dual mode feature, allowing you to use it both indoors and outdoors. One outstanding feature is the ability to charge the bike when you're using it indoors, which sounds super convenient for those cold and rainy days when you don't feel like going outside. I can see how this would be really useful for someone like you who only uses a smart trainer when the weather is less than ideal. Keep up the great work!

      I saw Tim's comment, and I thought to myself... Rick doesn't need nor want a smart trainer. Probably just wants something to spin indoors a bit during the winter so you can hit the ground running again in the spring.

      @@TheLankyCyclist you nailed it man!
      I’m noticing if I don’t ride for a couple days my legs get really tight. So between rideable days and this system I should get through the winter just fine. Thanks again

    Hi there ! Nice video . Really informative! I need some help on a used cycleops pro Bluetooth that comes
    With cadence sensor and ant+ usd for the pc ! How ever I don’t have an idea how to get it to work . Is any chance to get a feedback on how to use it . Not lots of videos on cycleops pro and how to get it to work ! Thank you in advance

      The Cycleops in this vid is not a connected device. I'm using Garmin Speed/Cadence sensors with an ANT+ dongle to connect to PC via USB port. I'm not familiar with the Bluetooth Cycleops, but a quick search shows that it is Bluetooth compatible only... not ANT+. Try checking your bluetooth connection on your PC.

    Hello, just wondering if you need a trainer tyre at all?

    • @TheLankyCyclist
      @TheLankyCyclist  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Don’t need it but I wouldn’t use a real expensive tire on a trainer… will wear down. When I still used a wheel on trainer, I used to throw an old tire on for the winter and save the nice ones for outdoor riding.
