The YWCA is an old organization, that building is where my Mom and Sis went to swim in the 1970s and it's much older. I went to the YMCA, which was up the street on State St and has moved down State. The YWCA is a different org.
The "YMCA" was founded first as a reliable, clean and reasonable priced place for men to have rooms. But of course women couldn't occupy a residence with men. So later the "YWCA" was created so that women could also have an equivalent place where they could find rooms--separate but equal 🙂. Also--grammar police here--the word is "supposEDly" not "supposABly".
