We saw him in Pacifica California where he was raised. Its the Fog Fest and we were holding a banner of his name, his Filipina mom kalabit him to point that we are rooting for him. He waved and smiled at us, I wonder if they recognized as Pinoy too

He is related with the Hamada clan, they are considered intellectuals and owns the Baguio Midland Courier, the only reputable local paper. In one of his movies he was wearing a Baguio Midland Courier t shirt. That is when i discovered he is half Filipino. He is in a 2020 netflix movie The Fundanentals of Caring with selena gomez and others.

I see a lot of foreign celebrities who are half-filipino and proud of it but it's just a shame for their filipino parents that they didn't taught their children how to speak our language when they were still young. I just think we cud be more prouder i guess if somehow they cud speak our filipino language.
Maybe others had a different experience. First and foremost I will say my parents did their best. I grew up with the wonderful food and cultural practices, however, I was never spoken to or taught Tagalog (or Ilocano) at home but I can understand enough and can tell when my aunties are saying something behind my back. Anyway, when I asked my Mother why she didn't teach me she simply told me "you are not Filipino, you are Canadian" which has put a negative effect on my life since. At 26 years old I'm finally learning the language. In my experience, I feel as if our our culture is so nice to others and yet so toxic to each other?

My mom is from the Philippines and my dad is white. I took two DNA tests with two separate companies out of curiosity. 23andMe said iâm 51% Filipino and 48% white. While Ancestry says iâm 45% Filipino, 4% Chinese and 51% white.
Either way whether iâm 45% or 51% iâm half Filipino. Verified through DNA testing. My mother never taught me or my sisters any tagalog or anything from the Philippines. Once she became a U.S citizen, in her mind she was an American. No need to teach us the language. It doesnât make us any less proud to be half Filipino, it was a personal choice our mother made. đ€·đ»ââïž

2 things I do not get.
1) Why everybody in the comments is saying he is half filipino.. when his maternal grandmother (that would be his mom's mom) was the filipina, which would make him quarter filipino.

Unpopular opinion: I used to like this guy because of his movies. He's hilarious as hell. And knowing the fact that he's half Filipino, that increased my respect for him. But later through his career, I noticed that whenever a bad quality or something that's just out of wack about him/the character he portrays, he always points it to being Filipino. Like what? I know we Filipinos can take a joke, but always using it as a scapegoat is getting tiring and stale as heck. And it's rude too. I remember there was scene in one of his movies (the title which I forgot, thank god) alludes to him being a half which explained for his behaviour/weirdness (according to the movie). I don't hate him or anything as I don't know him personally, but I have since avoided watching his shows or him altogether. Whenever he has a cameo with Adam Sandler (his bff I presume) I usually skip over his parts, as Adam Sandler is one of my fave comedian.
