Games like this and Paralives being a wake up call to EA is exactly what we need rn. Light that fire under their butt and get em off their money piles 😬
Yes!
Yes! I was just looking for this comment
This needs to happen to Pokémon too. Notice there is *nothing* else like it. This is why the games have become so low quality. No competition creates situations like this and it sucks for everyone except the single company that profits off it.
@@razrv3lc there actually are games who have copied the premise of Pokémon in the thought of catching "creatures" and using them in combat. Pokémon becoming of lower quality is more so due to the fact they should've just let the series die long ago. They've drug it out so long they're out of ideas for Pokémon, and now they're basically just making them more human-like or, like the newest ones, vehicles. I don't think the quality has gotten worse, just seems to be a loss of creativity because they've pretty much done it all.
I have a suspicion that Sims bought Paralives tbh. The sims 5 footage so far looks a lot like paralives and we havent heard anything from paralives in aaaaages
I always say that it's so weird that the sims is the only game in it's genre (with any relevance) and it's also why we have the problems we have. Healthy competition is good for everyone because it pushes you to do your best and be more innovative and prevents complacency. But it also makes me wonder if it's possibly too expensive to do a life sim game and that's why other studios haven't attempted to make their own, because it's definitely profitable.
That or ea bribes them? I mean ea is huge and I honestly doubt ea doesn’t see competition and isn’t like ima bribe them out
I’m hoping this finally lights a fire under EA to fix the broken content (Dine Out and My Wedding Stories specifically) and bugs and step up their QA, which atm seems mostly nonexistent.
That and it's a lot of work. To make something customizable, even just a sim you need 100's if not 1000's of different pieces aka assets and I'm just coming from 2D flash games experience. Then to make the characters move and interact with items using while having the customization you chose is another beast as each asset you chose has to move with the character and animate. Then you have to animate each interactive object to open or close ect. The hardest part really is making a customizable character that Can interact with a customizable world. You can take short cuts like using the same model and just having a color filter code change the model color. Doesn't cut back on the amount of models and textures needed for the game though. A great art career to be in right now is 3D models, you get paid a ton per model. So that's where the cost comes in, the price of models mostly and then coding.
Because it's a really expansive genre. Simple as that.
It's the same case with Skyrim and why no AAA studio has made a game as detailed and big as it, its expensive and they know they can rake in the money with minimal effort (cough cough EA)
LBY dev here! Thanks so much for checking out our teaser. Lots of us are fans of your channel back at the studio. Can't wait to share more on the 20th!
I can't wait for the 20th. Thank u so much for your work!
super excited to see what you guys come up with!!
rooting for you guys!!!!
tell us more please
whats the game like?
super excited to see what you guys have in store!
I really hope it does well. If it does EA will probably have to step up and make the sims 4 better.
Exactly. Like I would play that till sims updates
i think what we have with the sims 4 is what we will always have just cause of how the sims 4 was made... but def think sims 5 will have to be a step up
You know what they say: competition makes progress
The sims 5 you mean. Sims 4 is a lost cause
Or they won't, and will be replaced. Like Cities Skylines replaced Sim City.
I'm all down for Kayla updating us on stuff like this!! she genuinely has some good opinions and insights on videogames in general and I'd love to see the project's development!!
I'm all for Kayla just doing more on the channel in general. Watching her Sims builds and gameplay is great and all, but it's also interesting when she plays other things and breaks out into new content.
+
@@Eventide215 I completely agree with you!
A life sim by Paradox?! Prepare for the most detailed, in depth, and complex sim of your life. Paradox goes DEEP. I'm hyped.
And more expensive than EA could ever hope to be.
@@thechurchoflogicsinandlove619 Haha no. They have alot of DLC. But it's nowhere near the price of Sims DLC. For comparison, with EA's spring sale going on right now, it would cost me $982 CAD to buy the Sims 4 and all it's current packs. Crusader Kings 2 would be $347.62 with no sale items and Cities Skylines would be $430.53 with no sales.
@@Theescapist_87 Kits are $5 right? In crusader kings 3 Fashions of the abbasid court which gives you 12 clothing items and no gameplay is $75. That's what I meant by expensive.
@@thechurchoflogicsinandlove619 Fashions of the Abbasid court is not $75. It's part of a bundle that includes an expansion and two other packs that could be compared to a game pack and a stuff pack. The regular price for all 4 is $71 CAD and right now it's on sale for $45 CAD. If we are going to make comparisons, let's do them correctly.
@@Theescapist_87 I'm sorry for that misclassification. I had bought the royal bundle, and thus couldn't accurately get the prices. I just saw $75 next to fashions of the abbasid court.
However Paradox interactive is known for their DLC policies to the point of memes. But at least those dlc are more useful and deeper than what EA is doing.
Rob and paradox seem like a real threat to the sims.
The fact they have rob and then throw cars in the trailer thats 20 seconds is a huge jab at ea
@@mrcloudiesbestfriend From my understanding it was EA's company policies that killed Sim City and not City Skylines. City Skylines just came in at the right time.
Paradox are known for making the most thorough "simulation" strategies (let's be honest, even though Europa Universalis is a strategy game, it is so focused on details, you can say it is a "simulation of leading the country" rather than a strategy game.) I love their games, and they are one of a kind for this realism and detalization, so it gives some hope!
yeah paradox makes a lot of really complex games if anyone could add depth where sims games are lacking its probably them
Pst: It's Rod, not Rob.
I'm super excited for EA to finally have a competitor, because I think it'll push the whole genre forward. When Paralives does finally launch, it'll be yet another option which leans more artistic and aesthetic, whereas it looks like Life By You is veering realistic and technical. I think each game can find a niche in this market, and players will finally have options -- which is a really good thing!
Although this won’t take down the sims it will be nice to have more selection in such a small-yet major genre. Life by You and Paralives seem like two different sides of the sims (Life by You - Technical Paralives - Artistic) and with that it will appeal to more players. Can’t wait!
you dont know that. the same company managed to overtake simcity….
@@kentingzIt confuses me why people are rooting for the sims to fail.
@@Kate09090 a lot of people (myself included) are very tired of the constant $$$ for DLCs that are broken or barely have any actual content for gameplay. For example, Dine Out is STILL officially broken. It came out in 2016!!!! SEVEN YEARS AGO! The mere fact that it is still broken while EA is happily still accepting money for new, half-assed DLCs is crazy. Not to mention that it's been fixed through a mod (AND EA still has no official fix/patch). Once again, the Sims 4 modding community carries this game and makes it playable.
It'd be nice to give EA a slice of humble pie. And make them rethink what they're really trying to do, as a game company making games for the players. Remember, they originally didn't give us toddlers or swimming pools. EA would've preferred us to pay for those "features". And players didn't want Batuu or whatever. We wanted a life sim game that was playable.
@@Kate09090 because they're ripping y'all off it's not that hard to see.
@@Kate09090 I think alot of people who have been playing the sims for a long time, like 10+ years can clearly see that they are charging us for more and offering us less the more and more this game goes on and they are tired of it. They literally released a base game that didn't have terrain tools and pools which were features in the original Sims that came out 14 years before the Sims 4. And yet they charged full price for it. I know I'm jumping ship once this game is released. I had Growing Together preordered and cancelled it when I went back to play Sims 3 while waiting for the infants update. The content was beefier before and now its almost nonexistent while EA continues to try to take as much money from their player base as they can get.
Little tiny correction, Colossal Order developed City Skylines, Paradox Interactive PUBLISHED it, Life by You is being made by Paradox Tectonic a new studio founded in 2019 under Paradox Interactive, not the same studio or team.
Which is why people should be looking at actual Paradox DLC when saying they won't parcel out or nickel and dime you. I'm a Crusader Kings 3 player and that is actually made by Paradox interactive and we just had to vote on the possibility of a dlc for child interactions and there's a clothing DLC that's $75.
Do we know if members of Colossal Order are working on it though? If so that might be quite telling!
@@emwatchesthings Life by You will have the same currency as Cities Skylines. It's this: ₡ . You can see it in the teaser, at the building mode part.
I can live with less aesthetically pleasing graphics if the gameplay is good and I don't get bored after a couple of days of playing. TS2 & 3 base games were more fun than TS4 with all the packs. Excited to see where this goes, especially with Rod Humble involved who is clearly very passionate about life simulation games and does them well. Please keep us updated on this!
it'll be very interesting to see side by side comparisons for all the upcoming life simulators ("The Sims 5", Life By You, Paralives, etc) once they all get their full releases. I'm still most interested with Paralives as we get a much more in depth look at their development, but seeing that there's more life simulators from reputable companies is enticing to say the least.
I keep seeing comments about how “no simulation games can compete with sims” but just because sims has been the only one for a while, doesn’t mean that it will stay that way!! Two simulation games can exist at the same time and both can be good in different ways!!! I’m super excited for these new simulation games to start coming out
Also, look what happened to SimCity and cities skylines
these aren’t life simulations though…
i think they mean more when it comes to relevancy or popularity i guess? the sims has made such a name for itself as a nostalgic and fun franchise that almost any person has at least tried at some point in their lives. i think people mean its unlikely that a lesser known game or company would swoop in and steal that spot (at least early on). considering people who aren't necessarily sims fans or gamers also play at times. i assume with the updates and trendy dlcs the sims would keep its number one spot for a while, even more with the sims 5 being in early development. but you're absolutely right that it can change and i'm rooting for any good life sims being released. not trying to argue or anything, just sharing my thoughts for fun lol bc i find this all very interesting!
@@bmewinnie oh for sure!! I love seeing all the talk about these simulation games lol I just don’t get the hate that is being spewed at the new games (by others, not you lol)
I genuinely think the creators of these new simulation games are fully aware of the impact that The Sims has on this community. I also think they are aware they they won’t be able to replace it. I would guarantee that is not their main goal with creating new games lol I would imagine their goals are based around having fun creating a game to ADD to the community, and being able to see the differences in these games will allow for ALL simulation games to improve!!
In addition - The Sims has a lot of work to do in order to keep up with the promises these new games are offering. These creators are watching The Sims and seeing all the things they are lacking, or the things our community is asking for, and they are adding them to their game BEFORE relase!!!!! This is going to be huge for all simulation games, but especially The Sims!! I do think we should all be excited about the future growth of gaming everywhere.
@@songokuboy10 Sim City was already dead before Cities Skylines came out. The last game was just unbelievably bad and buggy at launch. EA killed Sim City, not Cities Skylines...
The game is probably in the alpha stage right now so we have time for them to polish up the graphics. I hope. I'll definitely be interested to see all the new life sims coming out in the near future.
I’m so glad more life sims are starting to come out/under development. We need more diversity in the genre!!
The Sims coming out with Growing Together and the infant update around the same time as Paralives and Life By You are sort of in the spotlight is VERY funny to me. If this is gonna be a theme for the future, I'm soooo excited to see what kind of packs and/or updates we'll be getting now that there's competition, as well as how good these new games are gonna be!
I find it interesting how the newer players of the sims are so concerned about appearences (build and buy, cas...). The only things I think about is animations and gameplay. I always worry about object positions and bugs with animations and such.
Omg, I agree! Whenever I hear anyone complain about new life simulation games it's always "graphics" and them constantly being worried about graphics is exactly why TS4 is the way it is. If they want to do dress up games, there are plenty of dress-up games to make your characters look pretty and all of that. What you want out of a GAME is GAMEPLAY.
Yes, PLEASE do make videos about this one, and the livestream. I am excited to see what they do with it, and what features they will include.
Paradox already knocked it out with Cities Skylines against Sim City. So to go into life sim, this is exciting! Plus they'll be releasing CS II in the next 12 months. Between Life and You and especially Paralives, this is going to be an exciting time for life sim games. Hopefully this kicks EA into gear and do an epic Sims 5.
Paradox didn't develop Skylines Just published it. It's like how Bethesda published Fallout New Vegas but it was developed by Obsidian.
Sim City was already dead before Cities Skylines came out. The last game was just unbelievably bad and buggy at launch. EA killed Sim City, not Cities Skylines...
Rod Humble, once again here to lead us into the next era of life simulation games.
sims need to have competition otherwise they get to comfortable abusing our wallets
They've been doing that for 20 years. So it's about time that they finally get a competitor...
First Paradox kills Sim City with Cities Skylines. Now they're coming for The Sims, and I'm loving it.
Sim City was already dead before Cities Skylines came out. The last game was just unbelievably bad and buggy at launch. EA killed Sim City, not Cities Skylines...
@@benn8793 Eh, disagree. IMO CS 100% delivered the final blow, despite EA's massive mismanagement. Sims 4 has been missing content for years and has bugs that make entire packs unplayable, but people will continue to play it until a real alternative is available.
I’m loving this too 😂
Please keep us posted! So excited to see when this is supposed to be release.
I like that the main guy behind this not only worked on the sims, but also SL. Personally I have far more time put into SL over the years, and having this guy aware of all possibilities of both games is really encouraging. Looking forward to more info about it!
I love how you mention the cars being like strategically placed lol. That was my first thought too, I was like "cars? Well we already know the Sims could NEVER!"
This game seems really fun, I can't wait to know more of it
5:42 those counters, especially the sink, seem very "inspired" by the counters in cottage living
I'm really excited about this. Crusader Kings 3 (which is made by Paradox) has a really nice genetics systems. I hope the character creator in Life by you is based at least partly on that.
Ditto.
Totally agree
I'm so ready for a life simulation PETS game where you play as one of the animals/pets with a family or as a stray. Meeting other dogs, Creating friendships and relationships and enemies for territory. Starting a family, gaining rank as Alpha, things like that. Having missions you can complete or just free play. Kind of like the old game "dog's life" but on PC and renewed.
Are you a kid? That sounds so boring.
@Gabriela Bermúdez I was just going to recommend this! It's still technically in development since they're working on adding more quests and animals and other such things, but it's enjoyable and informative. Highly recommend to anyone interested in a simulation game revolving around wolves in Yellowstone!
@@paigew6707 People like different things. I personally think Call of Duty is boring, but I know plenty of people who would disagree with me. I know people who would say that Red Dead Redemption 2 is boring, but I think it's fun. Let people have their opinions; it doesn't harm you, y'know?
@@paigew6707 no one asked, buddie
@@paigew6707 I find it funny you say that on a video about the sims.... like... the sims is the same. It's a kids game too that also revolves around growing up, building friendships, taking a shit, etc. I don't see how an animal simulation is "boring" but the sims isn't? lol
I will definitely enjoy having more competition and options for life sims. I’m really looking forwarded to Paralives and Life By You seems promising so I’ll be watching their progress.
This game looks like it has really good scenery, but, so far the people look kinda funky for some reason 😅
Sims 3 vibes 😂 hopefully it's not how they look at the final release but I'll happily deal with less aesthetically pleasing graphics if we get good gameplay 👌
I wonder if your cities in Cities: Skylines will be importable as neighborhoods in this game like how Sim City 4 can be used to make Sims 2 hoods. That is, if this game even has a similar neighborhood mechanic.
They are being developed by separate studios under the Paradox umbrella (not by the Cities: Skylines team) so not sure if they'll be looking at integration options. It could be a fun point of difference in the market now that Maxis purely focus on Sims though.
@@tl2402 I meant the distribution umbrella not ownership, but I guess that wasn't clear!
I’m so glad you did a video on this because I saw the sims community post about it and I was so shocked!! Excited to see what happens going forward!
im not a huge fan of how “real” the graphics look, i like the style of ts4 being kinda cartoony. but i also totally get that this is probably really early development so maybe it’ll look different later on!
Rod Humble gave everyone a free computer in The Sims 2, I trust him
Where EA fails, Paradox succeeds. Huge respect for the legendary Mr. Humble.
This is definitely exciting news. Having some competition in the life sim market can only be good for consumers - and having Rod Humble on board means this game has some fantastic expertise behind the scenes. I'm looking forward to finding out more.
EA NEEDS a competitor! They can't keep milking us dry and giving us the bare minimum. Yes go girl give us nothing! I'm so excited for all of these competitors popping up, because it's ALREADY making a difference in The Sims 4
id love a video covering more on this! i think ea could really do with some competition, with more alternative games it will push them on to improve
I’m super excited for the new life sim games that are going to be coming out! I’m sick of the sims thinking it’s okay to release buggy and extremely pricy content knowing people will buy it because it’s the best life sim option. Maybe some new competition will help push them in a better direction!
Yeah Sims 4 has felt like a dead horse for a while now. I'm ready for Sims 5, Paralives, Life by You, literally anything new and fresh.
100% with you on this! I absolutely LOVE Life Sim games, so while the Sims will _always_ be my "main" game, I'll also definitely be checking out this game & Paralives when it comes out because imo you can never have enough good Life Sim games to play! Plus Paradox makes 2 of my _other_ favorite games too like Cities & Prison Architect! Plus a whole bunch of other really amazing looking games too, & with Rod Humble involved in this, I definitely have good hopes for this!
These update videos are good every now and then. I hope this game does well, plus it'll be nice to have an alternative life sim game to play. I also hope it keeps the Sims team on their toes so they stop slacking.
I’d love for you to talk about this more when the next announcement happens!
Something I wanted to add: it seemed like there were blue arrows surrounding the sides of the lot, meaning you could potentially choose the exact size of the lot! Idk if this is true, but that’s what it looked like to me :)
You could be right. I didn't even notice that before.
Paradox makes awesome grand strategy games, so I’m excited they’re involved.
i think having other life sims would be good, but this one in paticular im not a fan of so far. its really just the art style. it feels almost too realistic. i love the sims 4 because its cartoon-ish and realistic at the same time. and it doesnt feel creepy to me. but something like this feels a little off if that makes sense. besides that, im eager to see what they have in store for this game.
I love playing different games in a genre, so hearing about life sim options is giving me so much hype!!
I'm honestly so glad more life sims are coming out, it will be nice to compare them :D
The Sims has held the monopoly on this genre of game for far too long. I’m looking forward to seeing some healthy competition between the Sims five, paralives and life by you.
I'm excited to see the announcement about the game. The graphics look a lot like Sims 3 to me. Would love another video once their longer video is out!
ooohh im very curious to see more about this new game!! and i like ur style of covering announcements so i would love a video on that when it comes out!!
I like how they show car in their teaser lol. It's good to have competitors in the market. Also it feels like an open world to me. Just hoping the graphics can be nicer when it actually comes out (maybe too used to sims graphics)
Yes, please update us on March 20th!
Thank you for always making me smile with your videos❤️
Ahh, this is exciting! Would definitely love to see more videos on stuff like this in the future. Always fun to see what else is out there! 😁
yes please do a video on the announcement!!! I'm so excited to see more life sims!
I LOVE YOUR CONTENT SO MUCH!!
I was waiting for you to talk about this game! :)
Competition is ALWAYS good for any business or company. I am really excited.
I agree about the new world. I really thought it would have a main city section with some apartments too. It would have been great to have a mix of an apartment section and suburbs so maybe your family could start in an apartment and then move into the suburbs. Especially with the iconic SanFran colored houses next to each other on the upward curving street. It just doesn't feel like SanFran
id love it so much more if the graphics weren't so realistic😭😭 i so much prefer the more cartoony style
It looks like sims 2 style and i love it but i can see why people don’t
@@adammorin2955 i think im just used to the cartoony style of ts4 and paralives it's not that it's bad it's just so different
Yeah i get that! But a lot people want a realistic look to a life simulation game and i believe thats why they choose that style maybe
I'm quite excited for this and it makes it even better knowing someone who worked for the sims is working on this project because they have a good idea of what the target audience want from a life simulation game 😊
I think having games come in and challenge what is a monopoly in the market is great all round for everyone, it means The Sims can’t just rest on their laurels like they have been, and challenges are where development grows. I hope this works out, it’ll be good to have some competition in the market
The rise over run of the stairs is definitely unusual. Like, if you saw them in a real house, you'd definitely call them a death trap lol. But then, most of the Sims is a death trap so like.... fair.
The more the merrier! Competition is great to keep everybody creative and produce better products 😄
I'm excited about a potential contender to the sims. I've never cared for cars, mostly because I don't drive irl lol. My only worry about this is if it will have a lot of personalization in terms of the character and your environment. And then I also hope its as open world and interactive as like, GTA RP world or something.
Yes would love more content from you on this. Your breakdown is invaluable. You notice everything!
really excited by the bus in the teaser! i don't mind not having cars but I would ADORE public transportation - especially if I could set up custom bus routes like City Skylines
Very cool. All these competitors probably won't affect Sims 4. But it could take a serious chunk out of Sims 5. Players are fed up with EA.
My biggest worry is that these games will overcomplicate and flop, or that the multiplayer in Sims 5 is too big a draw.
I don't think the goal is to end the sims, just to end the monopoly it has on the life simulator genre. If it has competition, it'll lead to higher quality work, lower prices- more of a fight to keep a player base.
The graphics kinda give me mobile game vibes, but I'm sooooo excited to see more! In Rod Humble we trust 🎉
i really like that you talked about this and i hope you'll talk about that announcement event too, you're my favourite simmer and im always interested in your opinion on new games or sims packs
I would love to see a video about what they discuss in the livestream. I’m not good at follow news like this so it always helps to come to your channel and listen to your findings and thoughts like this!
That’s so cute
The monopoly is over. Oh baby.
I’m excited about this. The graphics to me honestly look a lot like cities and I like it. I see what you mean about the scale of the child compared to the stairs, but I doubt any of this is final.
Yes to the announcement and you doing a video/breakdown of it. Curious to see it develop. LIke you said, we can use more of the life sim genre.
Simsie do u know when you'll get early access for growing together?
Asking the pivotal questions.... :D
She can post stuff on Monday!
It’s weirdly realistic so much that it looks scary
lol it's kinda cartoonish and definitely not that realistic, how can that trigger the uncanny valley effect?
I was waiting for you to do this video review! Also I’m so ready for many more sims like games. I love them and been there from the start but this makes me excited.
If Paradox is behind this that is warning shot across EA's bow. All I can say is, "YES!"
Yess I would love to hear more abt thisss, please keep us updated !!
sims is one of my favorite games but I have to admit it is gonna be nice to have a new game to try out. i'm so glad you made this video I love your channel you keep me updated❤
i'd definitely be interested in a trailer breakdown of this game when it comes out!!
I really like how Simsie doesn't just do Sims stuff. She's where I get my info on the "simulation games" community stuff
I love that you cover this also. And not just The Sims. I'm really curious to know mor about it.
We're excited that you're excited! 👯
please talk about this more!! i feel like the more you and your community talk about it, the more the sims will realize that they need to step it up,, keep them on their toes and such
One of my favorite games is Surviving Mars, which is beautiful and also by Paradox. Having Paradox jump into life sim is making me super hopeful and excited for the game.
I’m a huge paradox fan and obviously the sims so I’m super excited about this.
ive been playing little sim world for months now and honestly im in love
Please keep us posted on this! It's exciting and I never would have known about it if you hadn't made this video.
I'm in the same camp as you, I love the Sims and it wouldn't hurt to have another game of the same kind.
You should do a build challenge where you build the floor plan of a house and then randomize the room you have to build (you have to follow the house in order).
For example, you build a floor plan and start at the entrance of the house and randomize bathroom. That means instead of an entry way you come into the house in the bathroom.
To make things more interesting you have to design the floor plan as if it were normal (like having a really tiny Kitchen where the bathroom would’ve been in a regular build)
I love how you give a genuine opinion over everything and all the details! Love you and your channel 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Some life sim games I like are visual novels like Growing Up, Our life: Beginnings and always, and I was a teenage exocolonist, there is also one game I like that isn't a visual novel called Little lives.
The grid overlapping the sidewalk makes me so happy 😌
Yes please do a follow up video !!
I can’t wait
I’m very curious to see which CZcamsrs dip on the sims and which ones cover both
Aside from the Sims and Bethesda Games (Skyrim, etc) I am a huge Paradox games fan (Vicky 3, CK3, Stellaris, etc). Aside from all of the jokes that come to mind, knowing what they did with CK3 (the most role-playing like grand strategy game they make) makes me think that this will be a wonderful new game. I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm excited too! Please do make an update video on the upcoming information!
