Let's Remember - What Really Happened to Three's Company?
Do you know the backstory of what really happened on Threes Company? Joyce Dewitt, Suzanne Somers, John Ritter, Jenilee Harris, Priscilla Barnes, Don Knotts, Norman Fell, Audra Lindley and Richard Kline all had stories to tell. Three’s Company came on the air in 1977, and the show quickly became a major success thanks to the chemistry of its three stars. Those stars were John Ritter, Suzanne Somers, and Joyce DeWitt. Of those three stars, Suzanne and Joyce are still alive, and they love paying their respects to the late John Ritter by sharing stories.

Whether it be the Somers contract issues and controversy or the raw deal for the Ropers by the network. We take a look at the facts and details.
Suzanne never liked how much more John was paid than she and Joyce were, so she asked for a raise several seasons into the series. The producers decided they’d rather fire her, and John took her exit from the series as a personal betrayal. Later, Joyce felt betrayed by John when he didn’t tell her about the spin-off series that he had lined up after Three’s Company came to an end.
Joyce DeWitt (Janet Wood), Richard Kline (Larry Dallas), Priscilla Barnes (Terri Alden) and Jenilee Harrison (Cindy Snow)

John Ritter and Suzanne Somers are reuniting up in Heaven! R.I.P. to Mr. Ritter and Ms. Somers!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The Ropers and Mr. Furley are gone too. I think Joyce DeWitt is still alive, as is the guy who played Larry. (Jan Griffiths).@@POWERMINDS747
@@douglasgriffiths3534Richard Kline is alive and kicking
So glad to know. I'd forgotten his name. (Jan Griffiths).@@bigbubba29
And John ritter
John Ritter was a comic genius. Glad you highlighted that party dance number episode. Laugh riot.
I worked on 8 Simple Rules the episode before John died. He was so warm and friendly. I was such a massive fan of Three’s Company growing up.
I had a hunch he would be friendly and accessible. Though a star, he never a DIVO who put on airs or looked down on fans. You're lucky to have worked with him. I liked him not just because of his comedic talent because under the surface was a caring and sensitive soul who never lost his humility.
I think that show would have succeeded had he lived. It was only on for about a year before he passed.
Did you have fun filming the Threes Company parody episode?
What did you do on the show?
Holy crap, that is sooooooo neat.
There is one very funny story of how Don Knotts joined the show. The producers wanted a "Don Knotts" type character and one said "why no get Don Knotts" none of them thought he would do the show. Don Knotts daughter was a huge fan the Three Company and told him he should do it.
John Ritter is my favorite actor of all time. God took him too soon, for sure!!!!
He was amazing
@@nickstrapko7549 noone could ever take his place he was one of a kind !
He made it look so easy, that's how you knew he was just so good. Physical comedy is definitely not an easy craft, and he excelled at it
@@heatherr0420 agree 100% he did make it look easy. Natural talent. He was incredible.
He was also a great dramatic actor. Love him in THE COLONY t.v. movie!!!!
Mr Ritter was a true credit to his craft. The man’s physical comedic ability was second to none! His body of work will certainly stand the test of time. Rest easy, John.
Rest In Peace Ritter and Somers.
Wow!.Ritter’s dancing routine was amazing here!.It was like watching something absolutely perfect..Actually brought tears to my eyes..I miss John Ritter
I can never forget Three-s Company, John Ritter IS the BEST comedy EVER
Three’s Company is one of my favorite comfort shows. It takes me back to when my life wasn’t so complicated
Three's Company, practically made everyone laugh.
I still watch the show on Pluto TV. I drop in to watch an episode or a few pretty much every day. That shows its my favorite show of all time!
We do too!
I adore John Ritter. One of a kind. I really was saddened by his passing.❤
You forgot to mention She’s the Sheriff. That was the sitcom Suzanne Summers was on between Three’s Company and Step by Step.
I'd never seen that clip of Jack Tripper at the party! I was alternating between howling laughter and genuine amazement at his skills. Incredible. Well done, Sir.
me too! how have i never seen that episode!
RIP John, Suzanne, Don, Norman and Audrey. 😢 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great video! 👍 John Ritter was the lead of the show, he was the anchor. The show started around him, and the network continued to keep working with him after Three's A Company in another show because he is talented.
Priscilla Barnes guest starred with Richard Kline in an episode of That 70s Show as a swinger couple who double dated with Kitty and Red.
I can see why they had John Ritter play JD’s dad in Scrubs, young John Ritter and young Zach Braff look like twins.
When I was younger I watched Clifford religiously. I had absolutely no idea it was John up until he passed 😢
This was my favorite show growing up . Great show and John Ritter was the best actor! Way before his time!!! Love and miss him!!
My favourite show growing up! I love watching the reruns. It’s gold for me!
He wants to include his mom and family. He has always wanted that. Such a treasure! I will always love me some John Ritter
Correction: In "Three's A Crowd" Jack and Vicky were NOT married, just living together
One of my favorites shows ever
Mine’s too
I’ll never forget how I found out John had died. It was 9/11/2003 (my birthday), and I was on my first deployment to Iraq. I read the news in Stars and Stripes, and I was just gutted. It was definitely not a good birthday. I had grown up with him and the show, so it was almost like a family member had died.
Oh my God! I miss John Ritter😢
He was great in Bad Santa. I loved that the movie was dedicated in memory of him.
John Ritter was also great in the movie, Sling Blade.
I always thought this show got funnier when Don Knotts came on it. Three's company was the kind of show that actually got better the longer it was on.
Teri was also a better roommate than Chrissy.
This is the first time I seen the dance scene in it’s entirety. I can’t believe how much they cut from it in syndication.
@shont3286 true and soon uf not already they will edit out important plot points!
Yah, They edited an important part of the ending in an episode where Terri dates a convicted murderer.
Janet thinks he was trying to kill them, but he wasn't. The edit makes it that he really WAS trying to kill them!
THREES COMPANY is my most favorite show of all time i will miss John Ritter i watch reruns all the time started watching it in 1980 one of the most funniest shows of all time
Totally agree!
Yes it is chrissys cousin was hilarious i miss John Ritter started watching the show in 1980 to my step dad would not let us watch tv we only had one television at the time the ropers mr furley wte great watch reruns to jeffersons
, Sanford and son etc. Good shows
I'm British, so I grew up watching the British original, "Man About The House." But I like both shows. I recently discovered that they used the exact same scripts for both versions.
I love John Ritter ♥️ I was lucky to see him in a Neil Simon play in 2002 called The Diner Party with Henry Winkler. They were both so great live. My only regret is not getting a picture with John, the line was so long. I wish I would have.
John Ritter is one of my favorite actors. He was so funny and so good at physical comedy. even better when Mr. Furley came on, Don Knotts.
Harmless show. People need to chill out regarding the themes of the time,
I know right. I'm gay and thought it was hilarious. Nothing Mr. Roper or Mr. Furley said was meant in any mean way. Mostly only those born after 1980 would find anything on this show to be inappropriate. I didn't say everyone, but a lot. I'm so glad to be Gen X 1971.
Jack B. Tripping this a top 5 show.
Shout out to the Summer…
john ritter was a legend
He was rest in peace 😢😢😇😇😇😭🥱
As much of a fan as I am of everything John Ritter ever did, I must say that his role as the mall manager in Bad Santa truly takes the cake for me. His physical discomfort at every coarse word from Billy Bob is just gut wrenchingly funny to me. It’s like he can taste it. RIP. As the video states, not too many celebrity deaths hit me hard because you just don’t know the person. But I truly do miss John Ritter’s presence in the world.
Thanks for making this. I was a latchkey kid and along with some other great shows, Three’s Company was a constant in my life growing up. My brothers and I loved the faces he’d make, his comedic timing and his physical comedy. I remember feeling it pretty hard when he passed away and it wasn’t until I saw this video now 20 years after his death that it all came flooding back. Great vid.
RIP Suzanne
RIP To all of Three's Company cast that have passed away. I miss you all.
Thank you - you put in a lot of work making this tribute clip.
This was my favorite show growing up.
Got a tear watching this. Such great memories. RIP John Ritter. What an actor. He is greatly missed.
Actually I’m My Sisters Keeper, Jack took cold meds before bed which made him extra drowsy and groggy. That’s how he ended up back in his own bed.
I used to watch this series with my Mom all the time, she loved this series and John Ritter who played Jack Tripper. I really miss my mom and every time I watch this show, I always remember her. 😔 😢
I loved the show growing up. Great sitcom
Ritter made a point to *avoid* gay stereotypes. Roper’s homophobia was the target of the joke.
Yeah that comment was pretty tone deaf. Like did you not watch?
I was going to write the same thing!
Not true, Ritter was playing a straight guy (so no need for the gay stereotype). But when pretending to be gay for Mr. Roper, he played up the stereotype (assuming that's what Mr. Roper would expect). The stars of the show were great, but the homophobic attitudes of the 70's were ever present.
@@mrlookin4mr John Ritter said he intentionally tried to avoid gay stereotypes.
actually Ritter did portray gay streotypes but i never got the impression that the character hated gays....I also think he was a brilliant actor and a likable one
In the UK, the TV series Man About the House was first aired in 1973, the film was made after, not the other way around.
Love this show. I grew up with it and still watch it today.
September 11 will mark the 20th anniversary of John Ritter's passing. September 17 will mark what would have been his 75th birthday.
He was around for 9/11.
Thank you for making this video. Three's Company is my favorite show of all-time. I own the series dvd, and watch it every couple years. I was 3 when it debuted, so I watched it later in its original run and later in syndication. I never saw the final episode until I bought the dvd set. I always felt that the show could have continued with Jack and Janet finally getting together. Their characters had a lot of little cute moments, when you could see the love they had for one another. Always felt the producers and writers missed an opportunity there. Rest in peace John and Suzanne. Thank you for the laughs and the great memories.
Thank you so much. This is one of the best videos I've ever watched. A real trip down memory lane.
Came here after hearing of Suzzane’s passing. RIP 😢
Thank you for this great retrospective on this excellent series. All the cast members brought their own special quality into the show. The one thing people seem to forget is that Cindy stayed all through Terri's first season, THEN left. You did a great job on this, God Bless You & stay safe.
A great Documentary on a classics tv series. Very well put together. John Ritter was special, we lost him much too soon.
Goodness, you are really making me cry.
I grew up on Three’s Company it was one of the shows I loved to watch John Ridder’s character Jack Tripper was hilarious who wouldn’t get a good laugh with all Jack’s antics
I love this show, I actually hope there isn’t a remake
They could never remake it today, and not just because of the unfunny gay jokes. These days men and women cohabitating isn't a big deal.
Just saw your video on Three's Company. One of the best videos I have watched. Please do more videos on other shows. Btw I miss John Ritter too
That picture you have of Denise Galick is actually of actress Diana Scarwid from a promotional still of Psycho 3.
Great cast awesome show 😃😃😃
Norman Fell also appeared briefly as a police detective in 'Its a Mad, Mad, Mad World'.
Norman Fell also played a landlord in the movie, The Graduate.
I still watch Three’s Company till this day on PLUTO 😊
Oh please no, don't reboot this show. Don't mess with perfection, ESPECIALLY today's Hollywood.
What should have happened years ago was either a TV movie or theatrical release starring Jason Ritter as Jack taking place days before the party, when everyone first met.
Would be so cool seeing the lead up to their first meeting.
Good video dude, really enjoyed!
I still watch Tree's Company and one thing that people gloss over OR are not aware of it, like the nose on their face, is Three's Company was very well written, clever, always funny. And I will say that to this day I am still sad about John Ritter's passing. He was just great !
It really goes to show that the studios have always been trash! SMDH!! It's also weird to see people (in the comment section) make comments about what was ok or not when they're not from that community.... I do appreciate you making that statement in your video ❤️
It was all and still is ok
@@nickcancelliere5638I would disagree with that.
If I were Jack I would have sprayed Larry with the solution instead, since he's the one who technically went too far with the ink!
This was such a classic show, it was the over the top misunderstandings and pratfalls that made it so good and even with the behind the scenes drama, the actors did a damn good job.
for sure.. Larry was such a brat sometimes.
Loved it! Excellent job thank you ❤
I watch them right today!! One of my fav"s❤❤
Great video, thanks!
Excellent video. Thank you! I would emulate him in grade school.(tried). Good memories.
Great video. I still watch Three's Company. Luckily, a few websites have it available for watching.
My favorite episode of Three’s Company. He became Fred Estaire! Carmen Maranda’ Lol 😂
I'm gay and I still laugh at the homosexual humor. I find it ageless. Great channel 👏 👍 👌 LET'S GO BRANDON
W Comment!
Loved Three's Company!
John Ritter’s death was a blow to me since I crushed hard on him as a kid when he was on Three’s Company. I remember this episode at the party. 😅
Grew up watching this I love it❤
This show has so much charm. ✨
Thank you so much for making this video!!! It was very informative and you picked my favorites, I guess those episodes really stuck with us huh 🤔🤗. John Ritter was a comedic genius, I always had the biggest crush on him, still do 😂❤... My Papa was friends with John's dad back in the day, and my Papa remembers John as a child. I wish that I could have met him in my lifetime, but sadly he was gone to soon 😢... But he will always live on in our hearts 🤗💜💜💜
Wow! What an amazing story! Thank you so much for your comment and watching.
Thank you for your channel 🤗💜
Its May 2023. Good video. 👍🏾
All time favorite sitcom ALL characters were so funny. 😂😂😂❤❤❤
In addition to her talents as an actress and author, Suzanne had a fine singing voice. May the Lord rest her soul.
Susan Summers. Was so amazing and beautiful and talented. I can’t believe she passed away yesterday. I just heard the news. Via one of my friends on Facebook who mentioned it, so sad. She was 76. But have been battling cancer. For quite some time I believe. But she was so gifted. I loved her in the show threes company. She also was on the show step-by-step. She played Carol Lambert. No Carol Foster. I’m sorry, but she did become Carol Lambert, because she got married, I can’t remember the character and I don’t know why I’m drawing a blank but her husband on the TV show step-by-step. Oh, never mind. Frank. Sorry. But I really am so sad to hear. On the passing of Suzanne Summer. I noticed is still a shock, and still freshly new. Rest in peace Suzanne Summers, travel well with the angels. 34:39
The UK show 'Man about the house' started as a TV series with the movie being released while the TV show was still running
You forgot to mention him as Clifford. The big red dog period this is how my children got a chance to know john Ritter.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to bring this up but, Three's Company was a 70's sitcom that lasted and ended in the 1980s. Technically it's a 1970's sitcom.
I wonder if John Ritter felt any symptoms that led to his untimely passing. True he was stricken without prior warning on the set of his show, rushed to the hospital, and died a few hours later. I did notice his face having gotten puffy and bloated during his final series. He seemed somewhat tired. Also, I wondered if he visited his doctor for a checkup and blood work.
That's a really good and unfortunately tragic question. My mother suffered a serious heart attack in December 2015 and as it turns that been having issues for a couple of weeks, but had written it off as "anxiety" and "passing pains".
Perhaps education on symptoms of heart issues could be beneficial for people.
It would only be sensible that he did experience symptoms with the severity of what happened to him. He may have gone to the doctor but doctors often miss the symptoms.
John Ritter starred in an often-overlooked and underrated movie called “THE COLONY”. It was a low-budget B-Movie, but it was excellent.
The funniest man on tv!!! Made me laugh during my crazy childhood
Hooperman is so great. We watch it ocassionally here. I really like the spin off John did called Three's A Crowd. I really wish it had lasted.
The first Jim carry to have a tv show #love your work 😢😅
I do agree most of the episodes have aged poorly, but that's true of a lot of TV shows great or otherwise. It's a guilty pleasure of sorts for me, brings back a lot of fun memories. The entire cast was great in its own way, but a special shout out to John Ritter, a gifted comedic actor taken way too soon, Audra Lindley, Norman Fell, Don Knotts, and any of the other ones that I forgot that may have passed away
Heather R If you think this show has aged poorly, it could be that its you that have aged poorly. I refuse to be brainwashed into the so called "woke" culture of today. So there is NOTHING on Threes Company that in any way offends me or wouldn't be relevant to the way I think now. I am awake, but not woke!!!!!!
I don't think most of the episodes have... just a few.
Jack's dance routine was amazing! I loved Janet, but Chrissy was never really that great. Terri was better, but I liked Cindy the best of the 3 blondes.
And Mr.Furly was waaay funnier than the Ropers!
My favorite was Chrissy then Terri, but Cindy was my least favorite. I also preferred Mr. Furley over the Ropers.
mr. furley any day. terry was the worst out of them all - my opinion. suzanne was too much. cindy was my favorite if i had to choose. :) @@penelopepitstop762
I preferred The Ropers over Mr. Furley.
John made more because he was the star. He carried the show.
It needed all of them for the show to succeed.
If it were just John then Three’s a Crowd wouldn’t have massively flopped.
Are you positive it wasn’t because he had a penis?
@@christine3043it went on 4 years without Somers
You could make the argument that Jennifer Anniston was worth more to Friends than Lisa Kudrow but they still got equal pay.
@@DeepScreenAnalysis The Friehds cast had an equal workload. Ritter did a ton more than either of them
Love this epasoued
Norman Fell also played an irascible landlord in The Graduate in1967.
Suzanne is up there with John, Audra, Norman, Don
Rest in Peace Jack and Crissy. My fav is Jack at the party too! I always look forward to it in repeats, I hated that they would re-edit and cut out John's full performance. Classic TV and nothing ever again like it. Faults and all.
Dude! I like your true facts!
always had a crush on Joyce DeWitt, she was a fox.
Sounds to me like Suzanne Summers thought she was a little more valuable then she was. Honestly for me the Ropers were my favorite. Was so bummed when they left, then Don Knotts did his magic.
My 23 yr. old son and I are big fans of Threes Company. We are always talking about the fact that Jenilee Harrison was by far the most beautiful of all the girls that were ever on the show. We just don't understand why they would replace her after only one season!!! I disagree with the narrator on this video that she was too much like Crissy. Crissy was dumb. Cindy was clumsy. No disrespect to Pricilla Barnes, but she was no comparison in looks to Jenilee Harrison, Jenilee had a gorgeous figure too, which Barns couldn't hold a candle too. And Jenilee's character Cindy allowed for many funny physical gags, frequently allowing Ritter to show his physical comedy. Summers was good, Harrison was better, but I did not care as much for Barnes. My son and I complain about this every time we watch this show during the season that Jenilee was on it. We say: WHY WOULD THEY REPLACE HER!!!!!!! (I was hoping this video would have given a bit more insight as to why Harrison had to leave the show)
In my opinion the Ropers were by far the best and funniest landlords. I guess if you had to find a replacement Don Knotts is about as good as you could get, and Furley was good, but the Ropers and their running gags were much funnier to me.
I liked clumsy Cindy better than dumb Chrissy too.
Don't forget Somers was on She's The Sheriff for four seasons before Step-By-Step. It always bothered me that neither Eleanor, Cindy or Janet's sister and parents (or the Ropers) appeared for the series finale.
Yes it was a different time when everybody didn't look for how to be offended. Unfortunately, we've devolved since then.
