Is Alex Sarr The #1 Pick Favorite? | First Look

- Alex Sarr has quickly risen into contention for the #1 pick in this wide open 2024 class. A 7'1 big with high level athleticism and the ability to be an elite defender puts him in that conversation even with some of the concerns about where he best impacts offensively among other things.
Sarr was a 2 year and inaugural member of Overtime Elite; younger brother of OKC's Olivier Sarr.

#NBA #NBADraft #AlexSarr - Sport
I think this draft may be better than everyone is saying tbh. Im not sure if Sarr really is the #1 guy but I feel like his style of player and his build is a trend in the NBA now 🤷🏾♂️. IMO would like to think he’d go #1.
The kid I like most so far, regardless of where he falls in the draft is Thierry Darlan.
Bruh stop it
@@theetruth8626 stop what? What part of what I said offended you
I take that back, Right now, Reed Sheppard my fav in this class, regardless of where he falls in the draft.

As a Pistons fan I didn’t want to be watching your videos so early this year 😢
As a Wiz fan, I feel your pain bro
Reminds me of a more athletic and more mobile Chet Holmgren without the refined offensive skills of Chet. If you draft him first overall it'll definitely be mostly on potential.
Victor and Sarr 🤯
Really good summary IMO ...
I've watched every NBL game he's played and every home game from centre court seats ~10 rows back ...
IMO:
Biggest Strengths: lateral movement, size, length, motor, attitude, ability to play the role asked of him, rim protection when given space to move, mid-range jumper off the dribble (though not used much).
Weakness: his weakness (he needs to get much stronger) it impacts his body positioning at both ends and his rebounding. His hands on the receive from a quick dish need work, but may also be related to his lack of strength and body positioning because he has decent handles and can pass quite well.
Dang, he's fleet of foot for that size... 🔥
Stoked he's played here in Western Australia!
He's got sweet court vision, - those passes are lovely...
Hoping my blazers are able to get him, I think he would be a good fit beside Shae, Scoot, and Camara in the long run. Portland has a squad and though they have a losing record they have been mostly close games or the other team pulls away in the 4th. With Portland owning GSWs pick too I think they have a good chance to get him. Playing next to Shae and Scoot and a rebuilding team would be beneficial to his growth because he wouldn’t be expected to show out and make that huge of a difference immediately.
Scoot a bust
Rip City!
@@MrTheRevertz He's quickly ramping up his numbers, and his passing awareness looks very good. You're making your judgements too early about this teenager.
For those unaware, Alex Sarr is getting really inconsistent playing time for his current team (The Perth Wildcats) in the Australian NBL.
I'm really annoyed at Sarr's current coach here in Australia. Coach John Rillie is an old school guy and he's playing Sarr in really spotty, inconsistent minutes. It's not Sarr's fault either.
He's been really productive in whatever minutes he gets, but I really think Coach Rillie is inhibiting Sarr's growth/development. They aren't winning playing their veteran guys, and Coach Rillie continues to persist with starting slow, unathletic guys that aren't half as talented as Sarr.... just because they are "more experienced". Literally just slow unathletic dudes, whose ONLY trait that compares favourably with Sarr is 'Age'.
Or maybe he's already got a promise from a team like the Spurs 😎
That sounds bad, this is an important year for his development and he’s not getting minutes? This completely defeats the purpose of him even being there as I thought these Aussie teams carved out a niche for themselves as late development feeder teams for NBA caliber talent. I must of been wrong!
Total BS .... I'm a 30 years experienced coach and player at the elite level in Australia, who has watched every game Sarr has played in NBL, and every home game in Perth live from a centre court seat 10 rows from the front ..
Whilst I'm not a massive fan of JR as a coach atm, he has handled Sarr very well, and his development has no doubt fast tracked form his experiences in NBL. No idea what this guy is talking about, Perth had a slow start, but since Round 6 have the best win/loss record in league and currently sit equal 2nd.
Sarr is averaging ~18-20 mins a game, and has contributed most games including playing down the stretch when others were fouled out or he was playing well. He is a freakish raw talent with amazing athleticism and length, handles the rock OK, and has a nice mid-range jumper (off the dribble) with good touch.
He is however lacking in strength and gets out muscled/bodied in the paint regularly, particularly rebounding or when receiving a dish-off under the basket.
In the pick and roll, he's not too good when diving/rolling to the rack, his hands need some work to better receive the dish and his body positioning/strength combined with his average hands mean that he's not a serious lob threat either... He's good on the pop though, as he can pass OK and shoot the open 3, his screens are OK if not a bit wobbly.
Similar story defensively, gets out muscled in the paint, but with some space and movement, he slides laterally as good as anyone you've ever seen over 7 foot tall (it's his biggest asset IMO), and his length allows him to get his hands on passes and come across to block shots.
Remember, he's a kid playing against seasoned pros playing in one of the toughest most physical leagues in the world. At times he's a liability on the court, because of his lack of strength, average hands and average to poor body positioning. I've seen some improvements in these areas, and feel he could play maybe 25-28 mins towards end of season if he keeps improving - he's certainly a handful for some NBL teams.
The things he needs to work on (including strength) are all able to be improved with time, hard work, patience, and the right skills development coach. By all accounts, he's a great kid, intelligent, with an excellent attitude and work ethic. With his brother having already made it into the NBA, I think he's well aware of what it takes and should be an excellent lottery pick for any club with the right approach to him - as he'll take a few years to have any sort of signficnat impact in NBA I feel.
Lol BrO die completely wrong by the sounds of it.
SAS gets this guy next year, Him and Wemby will be the "French Towers"
He has great feet and great sideways mobility. Go Spurs!
GSG, yeah, this dude can move really well. If spurs get him and then go out sign Emanuel quickly.
Pistons for sure
@@MrSjc1220😂
Exactly how limited is his offensive game right now? Will it keep him off the floor? I watched him in FIBA over the summer and did not think he was going to be ready to play NBA minutes for a least a couple of years. Is his defense good enough to get him on the floor for a bad team next season?
Streets saying he a Wizard
Unstoppable force vs immovable object
i’ve been hearing the same thing
Thanks to the wizards streets saying pistons
Yup
Wizard kelly head ass
Can you do video on PJ Hall from Clemson. Very interesting stats.
Wemby and sarr could be a defensive nightmare for teams
It would be nice to see an in season bubble tournament. Including the G league and Euro league.
Reminds me of Amare Stoudemire.
Sarr and Wemby the next dyansty!
Could you imagine him on the Spurs, yes I know Wemby is playing the 4, and Collins at the 5, but Wemby and Sarr would be scary,
The Spurs are going to be a top 5 pick, so its actually a very possible scenario
Spurs , irá com collier
They would be the best defense itl for the next 10 years
The new Twin Towers
The new Twin Towers
i like sarr, definitely in my top 3 as of now along with topic and castle. if sarr’s jumper is real he’ll be a stud cause the defense is legit
I have a hard time buying his measurements when I watch him. 7'1 with a 7'5 wing is freakish height + length. He doesn't play that size at all to me. At least not often enough
I love Topic, you think he goes top 5?
@@sammadison1172 yeah I agree -- but I think that could be due to his lack of strength and his average body positioning in close. Remember he's playing against season pros in NBL a tough competitive league known as one of the most physical in the world..
Watching him play against the much younger less experienced G-league Ignite, you saw every inch of his height and length creating absolute havoc at both ends.
I think he'll grow into the NBA over time provided he ends up with the right strength and skills development coaches... the lateral movement and mid-range jumper off the dribble are as good as just about anyone's at his height already..
He would be a good pick for the Pelicans if they ended up in the top 3-5 range. Could play with either Zion in smaller lineups or with JV in twin towers lineups (shades of Jaren/JV for the Grizzlies a few seasons ago). Reminds me too much of Kwame Brown to have him as a top pick lock (or even a top 3 lock)... and he doesn't look like he can be the lone big man in a 4-out scheme.
Aday Mara breakdown?
Potentially, I see him as complementary piece for a playoff team instead of a super star. Incredibly athletic, aggressive, fluid, crazy defensive upside and a jack of all trades on the offensive side. Maybe a regular 15ppg/10reb/3ast/2blks in a couple of years. In a stacked draft he is still a number 5-7 pick
He is like Ayton
@@lukamagicgodmore like evan mobley
He will be a Spur in 2024!
Lol Wemby+Sarr would be a Twin Towers 2.0 for Pop. Sure he dreams of it, that's why Spurs tank again. GSG
He has that Shaq BBQ Chicken down frfr......I see alot of dudes in him. I see a polished Dennis Rodman...and when that jumper falls a PROBLEM child frfr. I also see Pippen on the perimeter D...he also will give it up or at least is thinking pass. He also reminds me of Jaren Jackson with better fundies. I also see Spicy P in him siakam....and dare I say with his ball handling possibilities rim protection, feet....a polished draymond green.
YES he is in discussion at the very least top 5.
Would love him in Miami but there’s basically no chance we get him

Wizards please
Whoever the first pick is, it's not Holland. Almost anyone else is a valid pick.
Dude…you were OVERLY critical in your analysis. He’s showing you great defensive instincts, the potential for a really good post game, potential to be a very respectable 3 point shooter, the athleticism and coordination to take guys off of the dribble, great passing instincts for the position, is he Jokic with passing ? Hell no but the dude is literally showing you he has the tools to have a well rounded game in a 7’1 frame and he’s shown CONTINUOUS improvement dating from 2021. You downplayed every strength. No he’s not the perfect prospect but he’s hands down the one with the highest ceiling.
My thoughts of why no matter what, if I'm the Spurs I'm taking this man. Put him on wings with Wemby patrolling the paint and Sochan hounding guards... Man. Vassell and Wemby two game will continue to develop. He has ALL the tools based on his fluidity and that size and instant high level switch ability. You can't have enough and on the offensive end he could legit develop into a matchup nightmare. Think poor man's Gianni's.
Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great talent and will go very high in the lottery... But his current lack of strength, limited skill set, average hands, and average body positioning mean he's a poor rebounder, has zero post game, is not a threat unless popping in the pick & roll, and is out muscled/smarted by stronger players in the paint....
Give him some space though and he's already very good...
Portland Trail Blazer: Aimons, Scoot, sharpe, Sarr, and Ayton will feed generations
Bulls should draft him and have him go work with KG Carmelo and Hakeem

He gon be a spurs mark my words. Sarr is just like a modern day Kevin garnett imagine him and wemby plus the spurs got the number 9 or 10 in the draft they can also draft proctor for point guard.
these european, specifically french, prospects are taking overrrr
He's going to be the next James Wiseman. Fitting he'll be on the Pistons.
I pray he makes it to our team but comparing him to wiseman is disrespectful to Sarr he’s an elite defender
5th pick
As a pistons fan, this does not get me going
You guys should trade Cade and go after more draft picks. Get Rob Dillingham, Reed Sheppard, and one of Ja'Kobe Walter, Zaccharie Risacher, and Matas Buzelis.
he's essentially Mobley 2.0. Almost the exact same prospect. So how is it a weak draft class again?
Hes giving Anthony Davis ncaa vibes.
His potential is Giannis with a jumper and I’m okay with league worst pistons acquiring his talents
Lolwut
Grizzlies trading up for this guy
I thought Ron Holland was the #1 pick?
Prolly cooper flagg still
Imagine the spurs get him, no one is challenging that front court
That's France's frontcourt for the next 15 years once Gobert hangs em up. Their national team roster is going to be pretty intimidating. Imagine Paris Olympics next year if they start this longboi lineup:
C: Rudy Gobert 7'1"
PF: Alex Sarr 7'0"
SF: Wembanyama 7'4"
SG: Ousmane Dieng 6'11"
PG: Evan Fournier 6'6"
😂😂😂
I can’t help but kind of see Jaxson Hayes/Kai Jones. The lack of touch around the rim, lack of physicality, and he has the same swing skills.
He has much better feel/iq than those guys by a mile and that’s what makes up the difference
@@Collindunks Possibly, but he seems like the #7-ish Mo Bamba project pick in your average draft, not a #1 guy. I know this class is extraordinarily weak, but I Collier should be the default #1 until proven otherwise.
@@beauandmarion2630 yeah not really a #1 guy but probably top 5 lock. I got Castle #1 rn
@@beauandmarion2630hayes and bamba could never dribble, shot create or even play facing the rim, no lateral quickness, can’t guard outside the paint, or shoot threes… but okay
Ive seen him play on tv. He has a high IQ, motor and can guard the perimeter. He plays with physicality so idk what u on about lol
Pro Comparison? Jonathan Isaac - ish? JJJ?
Poor man JJJ (at best)
Evan Mobley
@@alexandreazevedo9906he’s got very similar stats to JJJ’s college stats, except on less minutes and with less blocks, in an arguably harder league. kinda unfair to say it’s a poor man’s version at best
@@alexandreazevedo9906 at best, he can be better then JJJ cause his handle is far better then anything JJJ has developed
Pistons don’t need him honestly , need a great 2or4 who can shoot
Looks like a young Bam
What ???? No
He play like a taller Isaiah Jackson. He more than likely play 4
That's definitely NOT who he plays like.... but I agree that he'll play the four in the NBA. I'm Australian, so I get to watch Sarr every week. He's going to be REALLY good, and he'll be the (deserving) number one overall pick in June.
7’1 shooting 48% 🤢
Lamelo shoot 38% in the nbl and wemby is shooting 43% at 7'3-7'4
Ngl not super impressed. I’m sure he can be a great player but being a good help defender and rim protector in todays nba isn’t gonna cut it as a #1 pick. Players who rely too much on athleticism coming in don’t tend to age well. I’m sure he could be great but def not 1

First round pick, but number one I dont think so.
If you look at Lamelo NBL games you wouldnt think hed go #3 and be the 2nd best player in hes class the NBL is way harder and physical than the Nba.
great prospect but hes basically a taller Taylor Hendricks, nowhere near top5 in a "regular" draft...'24 class so weak
