    I'll throw my hat in...golf and life will hit you hard. You gotta take the hits to move forward. The pro at my course wants me to make the divot as long as possible past the ball and hit it hard. I was snap hooking like crazy and off the toe for what felt like forever (by product of flipping at the ball), but soon, the misses got closer to the center, and I'm starting to feel the rotation and weight shift doing the work he wants. Expect to get worse, but commit to the goal, whatever your teacher wants from you. Really, it's commitment that gets you through anything in life.

    I have been playing for more than 20 years and obviously not used my hips properly. I have been working on this for almost a year now. As I’m 60+ it is not only about learning the right move, but also about increasing flexibility and strength in order to prevent injuries. So it´s not “just” a swing change!
    And here’s another comment about your swing that you probably are aware of :) . If you lean away from the target with your upper body with your driver (you stand very upright today) you will hit upwards on the ball which most likely will reduce spin and increase length. Good luck with your drills!

    So much value in this episode! Implementing swing changes has nothing to do with picking "drills" here and there and expecting a miracle on the course. You make it plain clear. It takes time, and a great deal of resilience because, most of the time, the immediate result will be disappointing. You are right : it's pointless to do it on your own when you are a recreational golfer, because a golfer's feel is so different from what is actually happening. So you must sustain a high level of long-term motivation, which is not easy. From my experience, if you are really ready for the journey, a good thing is playing on your own for a while, and under NO circumstances listen to "advice" from others (well, not your coach, but pretty much anyone else...). From what you say in the video, my guess would be you are probably working on a several months range to implement a swing change as a pro?

  • @MPerski
    @MPerski Před 3 lety

    The Tour Striker ball helps develop CONNECTION (upper arms to torso). You can also use it with putting. Haven’t used it ON THE COURSE, but that’s a great idea 💡
    From what I’ve heard, swing changes take 30 days
    ... IF you work on the change EVERY day!
    And score matters to us (who rarely, if ever, play in a tournament) when we enter our score toward maintaining our handicap.

    I've had a smart ball for a couple of weeks now and only have been able to take swings in the living room with it due to the foot of snow on the ground outside. Its a lot more challenging than it looks. To be able to actually hit a driver with it ,as I've seen you do on Instagram, is a good demonstration of how athletic you are.

    Excellent video and a reminder that anything short of a sanctioned comps is in reality for fun. I like the slow motion swings at the end. It shows a good comparison in that without the ball your arms collapse and come in towards the body instead of extending down and slightly away.

    Thank's, Gen for helping me get though Winter, where it's a whopping 27 degrees in Indiana. as far as a swing change I decided I would like to play more then my normal fade, but fade and draw at WILL. I started mid season last year (July) and by the end of golf season (Nov). going to the range 3 times per. week (150 balls) and the city course 2-3 times per. week, I now feel comfortable with the change.

    Genevieve, very interesting post ......I hope this detour to better golf is a huge success for you as you try to fine tune your excellent swing fundamentals , but please make sure you remember your already awesome basic fundamentals of your square stance,square alignment,great grip,inside to square swing path and smooth swing speed because this training aid looks like it has you in less accurate positions .
    I am a 1 handicap and I’m extremely interested to see what improvements you discover because I am trying to fine tune my swing as well.
    Great post ❤️..... and looking forward to watching your progress!

    I'm not a golf pro. A bogey golfer on my best days. But it seems to me that if you're implementing a swing change on the golf course, at that point, the course is your laboratory. Sure, you keep score. Sure you want to score well. But at the end of the day, you're 'gathering data', and evaluating it afterwards. The score, while important, is not the be all/end all. I've applied that to other sports that I DID do fairly well. Looking back, I have to say that the challenge was fun. Frustrating, challenging at times...but fun. Because when you stop trying to improve, you stagnate. And then it stops being fun.

    I just got this tool last week (after months of waiting), and for first 3 hours I kept toping, shanking, drop-kicking the ball everywhere; not to mention the soreness from trying to get the ball from squirting out! But eventually I started to understand the proper motion/sequencing required to make decent contact. I’m still at the slowest stage and I still top it from time to time so no where near workable on the course! Thank you for all your videos, they’re all aspirational and I wish you much success on your future tourneys!

    @bennjenn929 Před 3 lety

    Two questions: 1) When do you know you need to change your swing? Certainly when a teaching pro says so, but is there a process you go through otherwise to determine that? 2) I’ve had some teaching pros that were not good... felt they were very generic and not necessarily looking at what I need. What should I be looking for in a pro that I can get a sense he/she is good, without having to spend hundreds of $ on trial-and-error? As always, great videos!

  • @TheBatugan77
    @TheBatugan77 Před 3 lety

    I said below that I only a bogey golfer. But... I was a good bowler. I made biggest and fastest progress one summer, on an Army base. Bowling was only 25c a game. I could bowl all I wanted. So I did. Never kept score. Just marked off the frames as I went. i concentrated totally on my form...arm swing, footwork, balance. Two months.
    By Autumn, when I started competing again, I'd jumped 30+ points on average. Boy was that an eye-opener! From then on, I never scored when I practiced. Never made varsity in Highschool, always made varsity in college.

  • @JZ-xu3vg
    @JZ-xu3vg Před 3 lety

    putting your foot back forces you balance and put more weight on your front foot, as well as changes hip rotation. I don't see it much on the golf course but it is a baseball thing that helps hit over second base line if you have problems pulling it - say to third-. Which is ideal.

  • @usersll226

    Thanks for sharing. I have tried that ball drill before. The challenge is trying to relax the arms while holding the ball in position to maintain the relationship of the arms. Tension kills the swing.

    I think the time a swing change takes coincides with the amount of time you are able to dedicate to it. If you are only able to work on it say once a month a swing change might take a year for it to become second nature. If you are able to practice once or twice a week it might take a few weeks or a month. Swing changes are all about muscle memory and thought process.

    Making swing changes, how long to make them permanent? It may take years before the old neural pathways aren't "tickled" in your new swing. I found that even after a successful change a stressful shot (i.e. hitting out of heavy ruff or swinging for power etc.) or momentary lapse in swing concentration might get the "old" swing neural pathways to fire. Though rare it's never good. The end of the video made obvious what you're trying to accomplish with the "training ball". I understand what you're planning to change and it will hopefully make you a better shot-maker. Good luck!

    I'm going through some swing changes and I think it'll be thousands of shots and probably 3-4 months before it becomes something I don't need to think about. I think it also depends on how you do your training. Some methods work better for some people to get that change to become "reflex"/"instinctive". Even though people have swing thoughts a swing takes ~1 second and a downswing takes ~.3 of a second so there's no way you can consciously control those fine movements in that time!

    Hi Gen! Just a thought: " Don't fix it if it ain't broke". IMHO this was the start of Tiger's swing problems. Like the vids, Tks.....

    I’ve noticed that when u putt your eyes seem to be outside the line. Is there some reason for this.

    Adding this at hole 5, waiting to see if I’m close. Looked like you didn’t finish exiting left. Your follow through seemed to be right of target. Carrying the ball promotes a fuller left turn after impact when done correctly.

    I think it would take 500-1000 swings, roughly 10 hours of ingraining a new swing change.

    I guess after implementing a change you need to ensure you don’t go backwards over time.
    With you driver, Did I see a “chicken wing?” And does the ball come off the face lower?

    Hi Gen. I notice that since we're currently in MCO, a lot of golf clubs are closed. Do you get special permissions to play because you're a pro? Just asking.

    To groove a swing change takes 3000 - 5000 reps.
