I played this with my dad for hours at an arcade in Chicago in 1977. Seeing this restored beauty brings back very fond memories, especially the amazement at the time of all the new gaming technology that was suddenly appearing. Previously pinball machines were the best that you could do in arcades, and games like Sea Wolf blew all that old sh*t away!
Funny because it wasn’t invented until 1988! Liar
@@salvagemonster3612 Bullshit. Seawolf was released in 1976 ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Wolf_(video_game) ), and I played this game several times at various arcades in the early 1980s. Calling people a “liar” when they aren’t makes *you* the liar...and makes you sound like an a🤫hole, so...don’t.
I haven’t seen this game in years. I remember playing it. Way back. Awesome
Thanks for bringing back some memories.
From '72 to '82 our large department store had a little side wall knockout that had a little arcade. Spent an unbelievable amount of paper route money on those machines.
Got to know the repair dude really well... learned his schedule. Watched him maintain/repair the machines every two weeks. The insides looked just like a Radio Shack electronics sales wall.
As he closed each machine, he would tap the circuitry and leave a few credits on each machine he opened. He was a smart man... than only enticed us to spend a few more quarters.
Thanks for the video!
Sounds like you had a good serviceman at that location :) Thanks for watching Winter!
Paper route money, yes! I delivered to a nice old lady who would give me old silver coins. I hate to say it, but Donkey Kong got them from me! :0
Kinda dating myself a bit here but ya, I played this quite a bit when it came out. It was the bee's knees back then.
Thanks, great to see it brought back to life.
Thanks for watching Goregoon!
Same here buddy, there was one in the arcade area at "Adventures Inn (Adventure Land)" on Rt 110 in Farmingdale. Such a simple game but it was fun back in the day.
Same I’m in my late 40s but what a game. Still the absolute standout and favourite is the Star Wars one you sat in that was amazing back in the day, even hearing the music gives me goose bumps.
Bee's knees? Naw... it was "out of sight!"
@@Psychol-Snooper Bee's knees = '40s Out of sight = '70s
As soon as I saw this video, memories rushed in that had been dormant for 40+years. Know almost nothing about electronics but it's nice to see someone caring for older technology because it is still neat!
Thank you for watching man!
I used to hang out at a bowling alley and they had this game along with Atari Football (with the Xs and Os), and a driving game (Super Bug I think it was called), eventually breakout then space invaders and Asteroids replaced those machines, but I remember sea wolf well. The periscope was built like a tank, and that "fast boat" is a PT boat. Cool game, and now that I'm all grown up and have studied how all this stuff works (which I remember wondering back in the day), it's cool to get a peek inside a sea wolf and see how basic the machines were back then. That sound board is so cool... talk about basic ! And you're correct, it's called discrete electronics where it's all individual (discrete) parts rather than CPUs, RAM and ROMs.
Broke my thumb trying to "run" fast on that damn football machine
I was six years old when Sea Wolf rolled off the assembly line. I grew up playing it and have the best memories of it! That PT boat's crazy sound is forever etched into my memories.
Disneyland had a GREAT video arcade "Starcade" in the late 70s through late 80s and they had a few old games, including Sea Wolf. Good times.
I went to Disneyland back then but we didn't go in the arcade probably to save my dad quarters!
Awesome, it's great to see these being rescued and brought to life.
I loved this game so much as a kid!
Fun seeing them start working again :)
I recall playing an early generation of this game at Dreamland in Margate (Kent, UK) in the 1960s. There was no monitor. The ships were real model ships carried on a belt from left to right and the sea was a translucent material painted blue with white waves. Lined up with the periscope, you could just see a long boom with a row of maybe 20 light bulbs, and when you moved the scope, the boom moved with it. Launching a torpedo caused each bulb to light up and go out in turn. Of course all you saw through the periscope was a moving track of light under the sea heading towards the false "horizon". If the last bulb lighting up coincided with a model ship, then you sunk that ship.
It obviously had an effect on me, because I can still remember so much detail after 50 years.
I believe that may have been "Sea Raider" by the same company, thank you for watching Mandolinic!
@@LyonsArcade Thank you for replying, and for showing just how complex some of these machines are. Looking at a pin ball, I wonder how it could stay working for more than 5 minutes at a time ;-)
This was my favorite game when I was a kid. Now I want one.
They're getting harder to find but luckily they made a ton of them! Thanks for watching redmunchkin!
I remember playing this at the arcade when it came out I was 11 years old.. seeing it being restored brings back memories ✨
Thank you for watching William!
Hey, I was 11 days old when Mr./Ms. 836 inspected that sound board! The fact that the sounds could be subtly different on each cab is fascinating. Ten years later, you'd just throw a Yamaha chip or something in there and call it a day, so this solution has a neat DIY sort of feel to it. Back when the game designers were also the hardware engineers!
Yeah it's pretty wild. I should have specified in the video that they didn't purposefully make them all different, it's just if you have a 1k resistor, it may actually be 900ohms or 1.1kohms, they were never made to exact tolerances.
pretty wild, the E.M. Pinball designers did similar things that were just amazing engineering...
I used to play this game at our skating rink when I was like 10. Brings back memories
Good times man :)
Great video reminder of my youth, spent down in now gone arcades in Hayling Island, UK, enjoying games such as this and Midway’s(?) Boot Hill.
It's so cool how a sound or sight can take you back in time . Thank you for these videos
Yeah it's pretty wild, there's a saying (and a song) that says ain't it funny how a melody, can bring back a memory?
I haven't seen some of these games for well over 40 years. Back when arcades were the, 'in', thing to do in the long summer days of your childhood.
Many of them have survived because nobody wants to throw away something like this! Thank you for watching JOHnF!
So cool
I remember hanging from that when I was a kid. This 50 year old man loves your work. 👍🏽
Thanks Rob, we appreciate you watchin' out there! Just think.... this might be the exact same cabinet you was hanging from!
That line on the cap marks which end is connected to the outside foil. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't. You generally want to have the black line side connected to whichever side of the circuit is closer to ground. It reduces noise in the circuit. Mr. Carlson's Lab has some good videos about this.
I learned that from him as well. He's a great teacher.
and those were wax caps. they should ALWAYS be replaced. See the youtube channel "Mr Carlson's lab".
One of my favorite games as a kid. The local Piggly Wiggly had one out in front of the store. Great memories.
The first game I can remember playing was at a Hills department store out in the lobby, they had two games.... I remember when they used to have those around at the front of stores, good times. thanks for watching Walter!
I LOVED this game back in the day... i even ported it to the Nintendo DS just for fun
That's pretty awesome, thanks for watching Mark!
Learning about electronics and wiring from watching these guys work on old pinball machines is badass.
Mechanic's waterless hand cleaner, made by GOOP
is a white, jelly/cream lanolin cleaner.
Gently apply & wipe off with microfiber cloth.
Used gently, it "floats" out contaminants, without damaging
silk screened artwork. It's also excellent when added to laundry.
It removes tobacco, ink, grease, and fresh overspray. Great on plexi
and regular glass. Moisturizes dried plastics & vinyl.
I'll have to try that, thank you HubbaBubba!
@@LyonsArcade
You're very welcome!
Thank you for keeping these Relics alive. They used to take all my lawn mowing & leaf raking money!
Great informative video, looking forwarding to clicking on the rest. Really pleased to see you respecting the historical worth of the old kit, and not taking the easy option of replacing stuff en masse.
Thank you John!
Great restoration Joe. Remember playing this in my local Arcades when I was very young. Really appreciate your videos as a collector!
I was never an arcade kid but I remember playing this one several times. Nice job.
Thank you for watching Donald!
Thank you!! Took me back almost 50 years to when I was a youngster!! Brought back good memories of playing it with my father who passed some 36 years ago. ❤
You've still got the memories though! Thanks for watching akc!
I remember playing this late 70's at arcades on a couple of seaside holidays in Skegness and Great Yarmouth (we're not posh), and in motorway service stations on long journeys - absolutely loved it, blew me away as a kid, very exciting!
Very cool, thank you for watching Chris! Great game!
@@LyonsArcade thanks go to you, Joe, really informative, hits the nostalgia button!
I remember this game. Thanks for fixing and sharing!
Thanks, we appreciate you watching!
I live in Vancouver, Canada. This was my favorite arcade game back in the 70s!
Thank you for watching Paul up in Vancouver!
One of my favorites as a kid in the 70s played it all the time. Excellent job restoring her!!
Thank you W Ramsey!
Wow, it was my favorite arcade when I was a kid!!! 😳
This might be the same one you played all those years ago Bit Kong :)
Quality repair for a quality game, spent many hours playing this when I was at the seaside, wish they still made games like this, and top work keeping it original not many people would repair machines like this, always go for the easiest way nowadays.
It leaves a nice little spot for us since if we need any work we can always work on the older stuff others won't work on. Unfortunately a lot of people destroy them when they can't find anybody to fix them!
I remember playing Atari's Battlezone, which used hidden line vector graphics. The big issue was you could smell smoke from smokers breathing on the periscope.
Ive been looking for this game since 1979-1980. I love this game!!!
It was pretty awesome!
Thank you for what you do Joe.
Thanks Rick, we appreciate it!
Great Job and Thanks for the Memories!
Thank you again for watching!
I played this a lot back in the day. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks for watching Drew!
always been 1 of my favourite games this 1such arcade presence ,used to paly this at frankfurt airport as a child !!..i mean the cab and sounds are great on this for when it was released 1976...midway did a great job,and so did you !! thanks joe :) x
Thanks Sas Farmer, we enjoyed fixing it up :)
Loved this game, was 11 at the time. Great channel, missed it until now. Must remedy that.
Thanks for watching Indiskret1 !
Holy cow that brings back memories! Thanks!
Thank you for watching James, we appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved that game as a kid. Love to have one today
Sea Wolf! I spent so much money playing this at our seaside arcade's. Nice work, good video. ;-)
Thanks Sclemoid glad you enjoyed it... see you on the next video!
Another great video Joe, keep them coming !
Thanks Darren, see you on the next one!
I played this back in college at San Diego State. It was all a matter properly leading the target. Two ranges times three target speeds equals six lead solutions. If you played it enough you could get a perfect score, which I did several times. All it took was quarters. Lots and lots of quarters.
Thank you for watching Breck!
Thank you for this video. I’ve never seen the guts of a Sea Wolf. That was interesting
I remember playing this back in the 1970’s.
Thank you Rick!
This was very interesting, I started doing this kind of work in the early 90s. The company I was working for at the time had an old game 'junk yard' located on a farm and I was out there one day and I saw one of these games sitting out there in pieces. It was too far gone for repair. I always wondered what this game looked like. Now I know, thanks. All of the old games I see on your videos, we had all of those too.
Very cool, sucks they couldn't be saved... thank you for watching Selah62!
I remember this ! It was awesome and was one of my favourite game.Yes I played it when sometime between 1973 and 1976.
Someone should revives these old games. Simple and easy with modern electronics with a bit more details and colour.
They still make a few of them.... thank you for watching K!
They definitely should, especially with the demand now. And not a crappy arcade 1up version.
I used to play this game on the land end of Southend Pier where the 10 pin bowling alleys were. (Longest pleasure pier in the World). Unfortunately the bowling alley burnt down, but great memories of playing this game there.
If I ever make it over i'll have to visit Southend Pier! Thank you for watching M T!
Awe man I killed at that game- absolutely loved it! I probably dumped a couple hundred dollar's in that game!
Thank you for watching Gene!
Awesome. Loved this game.
It's pretty classic :)
I remember seeing this one as a kid back in the 80's, it was an awesome game.
It's really cool to come across these old ones from time to time!
Everything is so clean
It's a nice little game! Thank you for watching Boomer!
Thanks a lot! Learning a lot about electronics thanks to you.
Very cool Paul, glad you enjoyed it! See you on the next video.
Oh my gosh, yes. Huge fan here.
I lost many weekly allowances to this game and many others. Like many kids did. Thanks for the memories 😀
I remember playing one of these while on vacation with my parents in Galveston, Texas in the summer of 1976 I think at the now long gone Sea Aroma marine park (sort of like Seaworld), they also had a table top style pong game and a few others.
It's like a whole world that doesn't exist anymore, I saw pictures of a Holiday Inn back then that had an indoor pool with arcade games at the pool, I remember seeing a little bit of that kind of stuff in the 80's but times have changed, oh well we all kept the memories! Thanks for watching Ike!
The cabinet alone is amazing
It really looks great!
was one of my favorite games as a kid.
That sonar sound sounds like my car door was left open with the keys in the ignition. Glad you got this working! Super fun looking. :D
Yeah it's a super cool game, it's fun to save these really, really old ones. We're working on a PONG right now!
Well done! Very interesting.
Thanks for watching Angel!
Omg I remember this arcade. No idea it was 76 though. I remember the platform to stand on!
You also got skills I see!
Thank you, thankyouverymuch
I had forgotten about this one. Wow!
Such a cool design, and cool game!
That machine took a lot of my allowance money!! I loved that game!
i love that game as a kid it was at a little Burger place had one my grandfather used to take me ever Sunday.both r gone r.i.p :)
William all that's gone but you've still got the memories! Even time can't take those away.
Very cool thank you
Thank you for watching, Monty!
good shooting on the PT boat! i hated that one back in the day
Thanks Thomas, we'll see you on the next video!
This was one of the very first arcade games i ever played.
It's got a special place in a lot of people's memories! Thanks for watching autobotjazz1972!
Very nice, thank you.
Thank you JustJoe!
nice job on the game. you were fortunate to not need the adjust the width of the screen since that coil usually breaks when you try to adjust it. it took me awhile to figure out a work around with a part that has a usable range which can be substituted for the old broken coil.
I've seen those break before so I'm always very careful :)
Wow! This is so much cooler than the console versions! Look at all those bells and whistles! An actual periscope! I wish this was around when I was a kid. We had a bunch of NEO-GEO arcades and some other one. In the 80's we had some better ones at the pizza place we went to, but later they replaced those cool ones like golden axe with cheap ones. Sad. I would have played this to death! Still would if I could afford one.
I have this game on cartridge for Commodore 64. Ironically, I think it is the only game that uses paddles. I bought the paddles and then realized I only needed them for 1 game. Oh well, lucky I have a VIC-20.
I've never played the home version, that's pretty cool.... thank you for watching, Peter!
Big thank's for this video for me it was a brand new arcade machine when i try it thank's again for those souvenir ;]
Glad you enjoyed it Zelda, we'll see you on the next video!
great game and fantastic job!
Thank you Manly McStud!
@@LyonsArcade you earned it!
Sea Woof, lol. Great stuff my Man!
Thanks Kevin, we appreciate you watching!
That game is absolutely awesome all the way around good job sir, good job‼️®™️ Rewatch
I still play this game on my atgames legends ultimate stand up machine! its easy to predict which way the ships are going to emerge - basically from the left then right continually.
Nice game great save again 👍🏼
Thanks Danijel!
5:23 …so… it’s an ACTUAL periscope?! Awesome!
Yup, pretty cool stuff!
used to play this at Woolworths for just a nickel.. good times for a 7 year old.
That's awesome, things have changed a lot since then! Thank you for watching Greg!
I mostly remember seeing this one and its brethren sitting on the the grass at a county fair "arcade"..and dudes who looked like glen campbell making change😂
Man that brought back some memories. Was at a pizza place. That and Lunar Lander.
I've never had a Lunar Lander, such a cool game though! Thank you for watching Anthony!
I sucked at Lunar Lander but couldn't stop playing. Thanks for bringing that back; we really did have it better back in the day.
great game!
Great job on the sea woof!
Why are you mocking my accent? that's kind of cruel isn't it? do you get off on insulting random strangers you meet online? Go be mean to somebody else.
@@LyonsArcade Apologies, it was meant respectfully; my bad for misreading your style of humour. Great job on this machine anyway.
OMG I've been loving watching these vids, takes me back to soooooo many great times in my youth at the arcades !! But was there another game like this that had a periscope on it.. I remember playing one say 1985-1990 but from the screen shots - I'm sure it was a bit different to this.. Anyway amazing vid, as all of them are ! Loving my BINGE.. this is 3rd straight day of 6 vids a day !! Should be caught up in a few years !! ;)
There was also one called Battlezone, check this out! - czcams.com/video/zdfKy4c7yuc/video.html
@@LyonsArcade Yes that what I was thinking of, Nice one.. another vid to watch to add to the 11 years of back vids ;) If you was based in the UK I'd be in your shop everyday !!
There was one of these at the arcade at Tucktonia Christchurch Dorset UK, sadly they destroyed that theme park for a housing estate. The model Britain exhibits all criminally destroyed.
Christchurch used to be a thriving town with leisure tourism and factories (including aircraft) airport , but ran into the ground and now a retirement slum with 70% over 65. the high street becomes a ghost-town at 5pm.
Supermarket food prices in Christchurch are higher than central London supermarket prices. absolutely unreal.
That's wild, i'll be sure not to visit that particular area! Thank you for watching and remembering , Joe!
A game I totally forgot about!
Thanks for watching livingdeadbtu!
That is very cool.
This game took a many of my quarters!
Just think KD, it may have been this exact cabinet!
Beautiful machine! Love the mix of electro/mechanical and screen action. These games blow modern crap out of the water....excuse the pun. I just wish I had the room for another classic and a slightly more understanding wife.....lol. Great vid my friend!
Yeah I love how they used both too, very well designed game.... this was a really special time for arcade games in that in between era.
@@LyonsArcade check out my Midway Haunted House. I spent last winter restoring her. Plus introduced a digital sound board. The 8track was just too far gone plus it ran slow any way on my UK 50hz supply.
The analogue sound board was cool didn’t know how they did that
I just like looking and seeing what's in there :) Thanks for watching N B !
good video beatiful arcade game
Thank you Rafael, this is one of those epic machines!
Good memories playing this at Mom & Pop pizza parlors and hotel lobby arcades ~76-79, before Chuck E Cheese
Would play the 70s classics like this in hotel arcades while on vacation to King's Island or Cedar Point in Ohio
Thank you for watching Gerald!
wow, welcome to the way back machine!
We're still alive and in color in 2021! Thanks for watching Mojo65!
@@LyonsArcade put many a credit in one of these machines
I think I played one of those at a penny arcade in Manitou Springs Colorado a few years ago.
It might have been this same one :) Thanks for watching Skullduggery!
I used to play this at a shooting range in the late 80s
These things were everywhere, first I heard of one on a shooting range though, pretty awesome! Thanks for watching Darrell!
I remember this when I was a kid, I remember it was always broken.
You missed out man! Great game, thank you for watching Tyrone!
Having red, black and green on some level in the color scheme of the cabinet and lettering stands out. It would be great if Inspector Mr. or Miss/Mrs. 836 and or 821 actually have seen this video. But even better if they left a comment below under a youtube moniker.
Yeah I agree! We've had a few of the designers and things leave comments on some of the videos, it's always welcome :)
Hmmmm I will never forget this game ☹️
Thank you for watching Bone Cruncher!
It s like the sea-air battle game for the Atari! 💥
I was 16 when this game was made so you know what I was doing with my spare time and spare change!
Shooting torpedoes :) Thanks for watching Ray!
I played this at a bar in college, in the later 70s.
Very cool!
Sea woof, looks like a real fun job, would love to learn this stuff. I’m way into pinball, but don’t own any, maybe someday I’ll get a pinbot or a funhouse
You forgot to end your sentence with a period there, Jordan. I'm sure you're a great guy but when you mock my voice I'm not inclined to read the rest of your comments, go hang out with people who talk the way you like.
