This is a really interesting synopsis, well done! One point of contention is the inclusion of Batman as a sort of ideal Man of Virtue, and I think it would have been better fleshed out to compare with another Man that we generally consider to be virtuous who does in fact believe it is virtuous to take his enemy's lives, say a military general. But I understand that this may go beyond the scope of this quick capsule form video. Excellent!
Helpful in deed. The terms are simplified and examples are clear. thank you.
Absolutely brilliant video!
Keep on rockin it. You’re awesome. Anyone needing to learn more about how to practise virtue ethics can find great information on your page! 👍👍👍
This video is so helpful! Thank you
Thank you for creating this videoo. Kind of great help to those who is need of a simple and undemanding to time discussion in comprehensible terms like me.
Well broken down. I really appreciate you for making this video.
That must be why people love characters like Batman and Captain America-because they demonstrate virtue ethics in action.
Brilliant video, short and and to the point !
Great concise video! Thank you very much!
Very helpful. Are you able to share what video program was used or does someone know?
Thank you. Very well explained. 👍
I found it misleading. The problem is it seems skimmed from "Crash Course" and then misrepresents the content which is much richer. But more importantly, it never actually tells you what one should do in terms of being a kind of person in the sense Aristotle or any contemporary virtue theorist would care about. It ends up being - do you wanna be like batman? Well, what about Thor or Superman or Harlequin - they presumably would all have different "characters' and so leaves one with a relativist version of virtue theory (i.e., it's not virtue theory). Personally, I think Harlequin would get him to change his mind. Clearly, THATS a better character.
Its our exam today and i havent studied our book about this. Hopefully thisll help
Absolutely very helpful.❤️
Excellent video ..very well explained
I'm loving every bit of this. I had the pleasure of reading something similar, and it was sheer brilliance. "Game Theory and the Pursuit of Algorithmic Fairness" by Jack Frostwell
Thank you so much I learned a lot more here than my ethics course
Lol
This content shines with clarity. I discovered a book with parallel messages that had a deep impact on me. "Game Theory and the Pursuit of Algorithmic Fairness" by Jack Frostwell
I think there is truth to the theory of practice, but that is only one path, and may not even be the right path. Seeking the truth, and growing the courage to stand alone, to face persecution, to stray from the herd, to explore deeper understandings, unfettered by the fear of persecution, and the pillars of tradition, is another path. Do not make provision to err, but as we do err, do make virtue to forgive, including oneself.
I'm really looking for a video that explain a scenario in different ethical theories, this video helped a lot. And the animation is so great tho, thanks!
can someone elaborate more this for me :< ? thank you in advance

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
Virtue ethics, developed by Aristotle and other ancient Greeks, focuses on living a moral life by cultivating virtuous habits.
The philosophy suggests that through practice of virtues like honesty, bravery, justice, and generosity, one develops moral character.
According to Aristotle, honing virtuous habits helps individuals make the right choices in ethical dilemmas.
In contrast to utilitarianism and deontology, virtue ethics emphasizes the character of the person involved in ethical decisions.
Virtue ethics provides guidance for living a virtuous life without prescribing specific rules for resolving ethical dilemmas.

You really said don’t worry imma save ur ass from failing
I liked the Batman example.
I don't understand the difference between Common Good Standards and Virtue Standards? They seem exactly the same just worded slightly differently. If I have to discriminate the 2 on an exam how am I supposed to know the difference?
Common good mainly refers to certain general conditions that are equally to everyone's advantage which primarily consists of having social systems, institutions and cleaner safer environments in which we all depend in a manner that benefits all people. An example is 'access to affordable health care system' and education', a just legal and political system. However, the disadvantage of Common good ethics is that we live in a pluralistic society where people have different opinions and ideas. And there are 'free-riders who will take advantage of this approach without contributing to the common good. For example, some cultures do not see the benefit of having clean tidy parks for people to gather, play and relax and at the same time, a different culture living in the same society consider having a clean, tidy orderly park as a place where they feel safe and feel good secure being in. Common good is available for everyone, but not everyone agree to each other due to their different views. On the other hand, Virtue ethics refer to a set of moral character that an individual practices. Each and everyone one of us has different personalities, but most of us practice good morals such as honesty, integrity and loyalty. If you take virtues from a relationship perspective, you will find some people will cheat on their partners and lack virtues compare to others. It is very hard to find people who are virtuous in this day and age, but a virtuous woman is beautiful not just outside (but also inside), caring reliable, trustworthy, loving, and they make do with what they have. Same goes for a virtuous man. So virtue is practised, common good a set of beliefs within a society or group.

....huh?
I’m literally a utilitarian bro
explain 1:16 please
To sum it up, a person's answer to an ethical problem is based more on character than specific guidelines and rules. If Batman is a man of justice, stopping crime but not killing people in the process, that is his character and his virtue. "Does Batman want to be the kind of person who takes his enemies' lives?" "No, in fact, he doesn't". Why? Because it goes against his character which is thus going against his virtue.
@@lasorman8492 so it's the anarchy of ethics?
@@antonhelsgaun You follow your own rules in that what you believe is truly right and wrong. It becomes anarchic when your virtues goes against mostly all other virtues people have. Like if you think killing someone will help reduce resource consumption, which goes against most peoples virtue of saving lives, we can say that it is anarchists in that sense. If you're talking about what the laws say, it depends on where you live. Because some laws are based on practice of virtues.
Chidiiiii
Lynx lmao the good place

Sadly there is none in the year 2023 or ever since.

Who watched joker movie?? 😅
gay
jokerr hella crionge
Terrible breakdown. Basically, rules are fake, Batman should have killed the joker, virtue ethics was created by military aristocracies (who were right).
