Watching this video (again) in 2023! Nice memories... when you had to use strategy with e-cars; nowadays so many e-cars are so performant; awesome video. Congrats again.
E-Golf finished with 23%! So I think Pawel made a mistake at his last charging stop. He could (should) have beaten you 😪 But thats life. A rematch in summertime would be a nice revenge!
Yeah... they wanted the Nissan to win... :-) The egolf won this and the other one in my book and it is not even a car designed to be electric from the start. Kudos to VW!!! And too bad for Nissan who started the full time production electric vehicles and dropped the ball along the way.
@@EverydayRoadster For what purpose? You forgot to mention "goverment" or something like that.
MrCoreForce
“Obviously staged win”? What kind of conspiracy nutter do you have to be to watch that video and conclude it was staged?
@@EverydayRoadster Obviously you've never owned one. Using LeafSpy is a completely normal thing amongst Leaf owners, not our fault eGolf doesn't have as useful and accurate of a tool.
@@ashton9699 OBD11 does just fine. It's not as nice a layout, but it has all the data anyone could need, down to each of dozens of individual temperature sensors.
Another great video Bjorn! Also a thank you to Pawel as well! You both put the fun back into road trip competition!
Awesome Race looks like both cars are very close and it just comes down to traffic and charging now. Thanks guys :) 1:1 not sure why I'm so happy the leaf won this time :D
Next Race: Zoe vs I-Miev ... Fast charging vs high capacity!
We need more of these kind of races. Great fun!
Really exciting to watch this! I really enjoy your videos! Seems like its to very well working cars both of them.
Thanks for uploading; very entertaining and informative video! This was a great showcase of two seemingly very good cars in its class. I must say that e-Golf looks very nice (just wish it had a tiny bit more range!).
Perfect route for races, 0 blocked chargers(kk of corse always a i3 at the very end) and perfect mobile connection. Not a single reconnect for Bjørn and Pawel. I want more e-tron races if possible. Model 3 needs also a proper race.
You two are doing great race and keep it up :)
12:20 Relaxing drinking a cup of chocolate while in a car race.
Conclusion, Bjørn won.
Same tactics on both cars the e-Golf would win again.
Hey Bjørn! Will you be covering Peugeot e 208 when it comes out? This upcoming car seems like a perfect solution in terms of price/capabilities. Thanks! :)
Wish fulfilled.
okazakijap Yeah finally 😂
This was as good as looking at top gear back in the day :D Keep it up guys 🖖
Best of 3!!!!!! Personally, I love the Golf. (Love VW’s generally)
This is really very well done!
May the rapidgate be with you :)
I died laughing at that comment.
@@ma6netho I think the newer Leafs have some kind of active cooling. Plus better BMS. But again, a third driver in. Hyundai Ioniq EV would be amazing to see.
@@Demobot1 Unfortunately, no active cooling as of now
Hi. one small hint. To keep our battery cool, you need to keep charge level between 40% and 80%. Because battery warning when end of discarding and end of charging. ;-)
awesome footage guys, bless u!
Not one of the most exciting. THE most exciting race ever! Good job guys.
Model 3 vs Model S P100D (or maybe 100D) would be epic :D
Model 3 75kWh vs S 75kWh
It would have to be a 100D, not a a P100D, to be fair. A Model S 75 wouldn't stand a chance.
This was fun, thanks guys.
Please mention cabin temperature settings in the vehicle you test. Are you just using front defrost? That can effect results immensely! Thanks.
Would the eNiro not be a good competitor also? Also could you do a quick comparison sometime on cost vs gas and savings based on similar vehicle size/model- thanks
At the end of race it was 1% in Leaf and how much in Golf?
Does 17 wheels are so huge difference ? I have a 24kw Leaf with 17inch rims. Considering to change them to 16inch
Great video guys 👏🏻👏🏻. Next time try a race North between e-Golf and Ioniq!!....
The talles moose in the world, bigger then the Moosjaws moose :)
Only in Norway.
Great video Bjørn and Pawl :)
Having leaf spy was a bit unfair. I would guess had it been even with not using leaf spy. Bjorn would have bailed out for charging twice. I prefer races where the odds are even.
I say the golf won, as Pawel had no spying software
He still had 1% left and only 5-7 kms to drive. Too bad that e-Golf doesn't even show the percentage, I say it's e-Golf's flaw rather than Leaf's advantage.
@@KhalidOnWheels Yea, if car supports that - why not? Bjorn mentioned that they are going to use all of the "dirty tricks" which are available in order to win the race. If eGolf allowed to use a similar dongle/app - Pawel would have used that too. However eGolf doesn't even show the battery percentage, would you say it'd be fair for Bjorn to cover the percentage gauge on Leaf's instrument cluster? :D. Imagine a race between an Ioniq and a Leaf where an Ioniq driver is asked to turn off the active cooling system, because Leaf doesn't have one :).
@@KhalidOnWheels , you are taking this race too seriously :). But I agree that Pawel could have used the app too - I didn't know there is an app for the eGolf. Nevertheless - it was his choice and as a result he was a bit more anxious about the range and stopped for an extra charge.
Pawel won anyway because he didn't brake rule #1. Do not be a zero hero. (kk leafspy...blabla 9% blabla)No seriously, Pawel won because he didn't have to worry much about rapidgating and stuff, he just drove and charged. Bjørn had to pull every trick of every book he knows to win and on top of that, gable with charging skips. Pawel won this one...
Go for Race 3 - Rematch 2 for the tie-breaker. This is real racing where skill, strategy and good fortune of the driver make all the difference.
Does anyone know the reason for Tesla canceling the 75 kWh battery and only making the 100 kWh nowdays
Awesome race! Silly Wifey chargers.
Awesome vid 👍
Car or driver? Do the next race with the same cars... then we’ll find out!
How about a race on the Autobahn? One car hammers it top speed and the other drives slow and steady. Make the distance long enough so that it comes out really close...
What colour code was the egolf? Indium grey or urano grey?
The Leaf was always designed to the Janese road speed 50 mph. But the one thing that makes the Leaf stand out for me, even by todays standards, is it bidirectional charging. That instantly changes it from a car to a mobile energy source that runs my heating in the winter from my driveway via the Setec 9kw mobile unit. I would like to see the test done again this time using the 62kWh Leaf as I am told the rapid gating does not happen on this car!
Where is the banana box test of e-NV200.. i cannot find it ;-;
Thanks s for the video guys! Good stuff. I have a LOT of trouble with the Leaf's styling . . . still has remnants of its really awful looking predecessor only now it looks more aggressive - but aggressive is NOT necessarily pretty. The e-Golf on the other hand is still a classy looker and only suffers a wee bit with its iffy looking alloy wheels. Keep up the fun tests ! : )
Proposal: Don't stop the time at arrival. Instead, recharge at arrival till you are at the same percentage as when you started the race. Only then stop the time. Then determine the winner.
Better weather this time around for this rematch =)
How much energy did Pawel arrived with? In those 2 min and 30 seconds did the LEAF charged enough to reach the level of energy that Pawel arrived with? Probably not... hence Pawel should be declared as a winner. 😃
the golf is a beautiful car ! sucks that it has such a poor battery and it is soooo expensive...
Actually you know, i think the Golf will do way better in the long term compared to the Leaf due to thermal management on the battery (EDIT: it doesnt), only time will tell tho. Besides, the Golf might still have higher resell value and higher interior quality.
@@DeerKoden the interior does indeed look a lot more refine and classy. They are worth 44000$CA here in Canada which is quite expensive for a car that has 200km of autonomy and that is in the best conditions...
when it is winter here, it get really cold often below -20°C, the range seem to drop down to around 80km with a full charge which I find unacceptable for a car of that price range... I love the look, it looks like a real car, nice interior and nice technology too... but 80km in cold weather... hmm...
anyway, it is going to be the last year we see the egolf as the new ID line will come out in 2020-21... I hope with better battery technology... I just had wish it would have stay a golf instead of a whole new line of electric models that are going to be even more expensive !
e-Golf doesn't have thermal management.
@@bjornnyland oh. That sucks, damn (i kinda liked the Golf). Ill correct myself...thanks for pointing it out Bjorn.
@@Aleziss 80km of range in winter? O_o wow...although at minus 20c but still.
Did Powel even use Eco mode on the e-golf? And how low was he when he bailed out at the end? If he didnt, and he bailed out early, + the traffic at the end, and the fact that the leaf was driven to "zero" twise, I would say the golf easily won the race.
A race between E-Golf, Leaf and Ioniq would be nice to see. 😃👍
Ioniq would lose big time!
Matt H Im not sure. Ioniq is very efficiant. And the 28kW charges realy fast. And doesent rapidgate.
Comparing SOC at the end I think e-Golf is the winner. But as others said the result was more down to traffic and issues with chargers.
How were you getting chat over leafspy on the phone?
I would say the Golf won. Many bad circumstances and mistakes - if he had gone to 75-80% at the 2nd last charge, he'd have made it. Furthermore, he ended with enough charge and had the traffic also.
LEAF FOR THE WIN! :D
That was an AWESOME race! Every time you two race, you remind me of the cartoon that I used to watch when I was a kid in the '70s. It is called "The Wacky Races". Here's an example... czcams.com/video/NJjKHZ46Y3E/video.html
I would call this a tie, just a planning difference, if the race would be longer, the Leaf would rapidegate more than the E-Golf.
Is this the 300km range e-golf?
Next race same cars different strategies. So 2 leafs or 2 e-golfs of something else but 2 of the same.
One person goes for maximum speed, the other for minimum charging time. And no leaf-spy.
In Verbrennungsmotor Germany the Leaf would have a disadvantage.
Most providers only have one chademo at their location.
As the German goverment wanted to block EVs they made special laws.
So you have like 2 or 4 nice dc chargers but only one has a chademo. The others feature a blank steel plate where the chademo would be located. So if there is already a car charging even if it is on ccs. the Leaf has to charge super slowly on ac. Because most chargers only can charge one dc car at the time.
Even if it possible the law sais no.
Ac and dc work but ccs and chademo is illegal.
But our goverment know best so buy an Diesel instead.
Whats the song ~8:35-8:50?
Fair
I feel like the Golf won as it returned with 23% charge left.
Team Bjørn finally!
Молодец!
Да, я тоже так считаю 👍
13:01 In German this is called "Reichweitenangst" :-)
Was this the Leaf with the rapidgate software update?
+William Braithwaite yes
Jeg antar at du kan Norsk , så derfor velger jeg norsk. Min mor har den nye nissan life, men jeg har tenkt på Tdsla model 3. hva mener du om det, som har testet disse?
Go for Tesla if you can afford it.
I like how they both nod in Norwegian.
Yes, in summer
Next race please you two: Tesla Model 3 Vs. 62kWh Leaf e+ 3.Zero.
1st race was won by Golf by a mile.
Second is even. Whatever happened here, Leaf was constantly on the verge only managed to get there using Leaf Spy.
So a draw if I am generous to the Leaf:D
I think my Soul 30kwh would smoke Leaf anyway, and propably Golf too purely on a charging speed (I get 45kw/min all the time, not sure why but seems Soul does not rapidgate).
I think it was close enough to be called a draw.
Your races are more like the old rallies where precision and accuracy are paramount and driving speed is not maximum, it's part of the precision. Great stuff!
LEAF won!
@@f90bird 🙄
I'd say it was tie race, but good enough for Nissan leaf
Amazing consumption did you have heat on?
Of course. This was winter.
@@bjornnyland
Wow with the heat on that is amazing, did it have a heat pump?
@@johndavis7112 Yeah, it have. But not every Leaf. You should check it before buy. If you see steering wheel and seats heating, that car have heat pump.
The eGolf had 23% left, so that wasn’t really fair, the golf would have won. Both are nice cars, but the golf is better, at least in my opinion.
You should place your camer under roof of the car so the whole dashboard should be visible with the wind screen
Rematch but you must charge on 100 % every time or minimum 95% :)
Do the same challenge with a gas powered car. Fill up once and be done with it XD
Björn went all ninja and got lucky. Thanks to his Leafspy hack he could easily drive under 0% and calculate the range more exactly than the e-Golf that dosen't even show the cars battery percentage for som odd reson!? You would think stuff like that is kinda important in a ELECTRIC CAR!?
So Leafspy won. Because there's no way you would run it so low without it.
Now do this in Summer with 30 degrees celcius outside. Leaf will melt :')
For the full fairness you should switch the drivers in opposite cars and see what happens.
M3 TESTS & Race? Please........👍
Rematch with old leaf and eGolfs!
Lol, the drama.
maybe next time a challenge with the i3 120ah?
Im surprised for fast charging on Leaf without problems.
Leaf won the race. Golf won my first choice for my own car if I can ever get one.
MKBHD Hoodie...
my leaf once died at 2,2 % and 0,9 kWh on leafspy
Only e-tron has a chance with 150kW charging all the way. Maybe you have to come to germany for that.
Uh, I believe, the Model S P 100 D will beat the Model 3 only on a german autobahn, but not in Norway with Speed-Limit! If you can't go 150 km/h or more, maybe a Kona 64 or a eNiro 64 will beat the Teslas!
It's too bad there's no SparkEV there. It'd probably beat both eGolf and Leaf.
without Leafspy you couldn't push the Leaf as far. I'd prefer the E Golf
I stick in my prius for now..
Next race, without Leaf spy. I suspect Bjorn will have to be more conservative.
when ev drivers call a race and go 75kph 😂 both cars are nice whereas i'd give it to the leaf in cities and the golf on longer travels.
+Pete Sauerbier Pawel did 120 km/h. Didn't you watch the video before commenting?
@@bjornnyland i watched it all and it was not meant to be an offense... i referenced to the end where you went close and slowed down calling it a tight race 😉
I had to slow down in order to not run out of juice.
Adjusted by tactic errors and unequal software tools, e-golf won again.
Sooo..... Driving by prison rules😂
Nissan LEAF is the winner!
Yes leaf spy gave you the win, a little unfair.
Leafspy just an information tool. Its all about the car. Leaf is a winner in any sense (price and performance). eGolf seems losing on this!
Good race but this was cheating by Bjorn because using Leaf spy.... On the end with 0% without leaf spy he would go for a charging. So fraudulent victory :)
Why not bring the new I3 into the game.
