"I felt the earth move in my hand, like the trembling heart of a captive bird" One of the most beautiful lines ever written.
A MUST HEAR Classic,, Roberta Flack
"Killing Me Softly" ❤
100%
@@82ndAirbornesoldierofchrist Thank you for your service & Your like. 🇺🇸 👍
Seconded!
@@happymethehappyone8300 Thank you, you are so kind.
Roberta Flack was a school teacher whose students encouraged her to try singing professionally.
This song stunned people when it was released. So beautiful.
In my 60ish years of paying attention to music, I've heard only a few performances that can match the pure beauty of this one.
Quite possibly the finest love song ever.....beautiful ❤
The best version of this gorgeous song. And Roberta Flack's voice? No ostentatious vocal gymnastics - just pure, smooth beauty. ❤
Roberta Flack, in my opinion, is the best female vocalist of all time......her tone is, simply put, stunning......
"Folk singer Ewan MacColl wrote this in 1957 for his lover, Peggy Seeger. She was in a play and phoned him for suggestions on a song for a romantic scene. MacColl wrote this on the spot in less than an hour, playing it over the phone for his wife to use in her play."
I believe he didn’t like any copy of his version unfortunately
Good thing Roberta did. She has a beautiful voice. @@TheJohnnywbred
Ewan McColl won the 1972 Grammy for Song of the Year, and Roberta Flack won for Record of the Year.
WOW?
My god…..so beautiful. Live no auto tune. I got a little choked up.
Her voice hits you right in the heart. Just an incredible performance
One of the greatest performances ever, thank goodness it was recorded for all to see "until the end of time". Makes this 61yr old rock n roller tear up everytime it plays on my playlist. She is so beautiful as she sings it also...just amazing. She is 87 now and i hope still feeling those feelings that she obviously felt while performing here.
Wonderful song....real quality music from an accomplished pianist and singer back in the early 70s. Thanks for playing.
I love how emotional you get ! A real man ,and a good man I bet .👍🇬🇧you two suit each other perfectly 100% 🍻
This is a beautiful song! Thank your for your heartfelt reaction. Next check out Killing me Softly by Roberta Flack!
And just remember that was a live performance !!!!
one of the greatest live performances ever captured on film
Today’s music is no match to yesterday’s music. They had beautiful lyrics, beautiful voices. Just pure talent.
Beautiful song, beautifully performed. Perfect
Made me cry, so beautiful, a true love song.
Beautiful song, Roberta Flack is a legend, song's like this are missing in this new generation. Sad!
What an incredible voice and her interpretation will never be matched. Thank you guys, I will always believe this is one of the most beautiful love songs of all time. Love, Peace and Blessings to all.
I cried. It's been quite a few years since I've hear this beautiful song. You are so right that it stirs incredible emotions: for some, blissful joy, and others an aching longing to feel love.
One of the greatest voices . . . ever.
That is a truly beautiful song from Roberta Flack. She has an incredible voice and has many other beautiful songs like "Killing Me Softly," and she also had songs with James Ingram. My wife and I will soon be married for 50 years, and we have been blessed to have known this type of love, although there have been hardships like the loss of our oldest daughter to cancer. We had each other and our love to unite us through those very dark, difficult times. Love is the key to everything. Without love, there is nothing worthwhile. I love your beautiful reaction to this classic love song.
The first time I heard this song was in the soundtrack of the movie "Play Misty For Me". Beautiful song. Roberta's cover of "Killing Me Softly" is also outstanding.
Yes Clint Eastwood promoted the song.
It is one of the most pure, beautiful declarations of love ever produced in popular music. What can you say? Pure artistry and expression. Even though we have many progressions in society like awareness of mental health and movements for equality, people are afraid to be vulnerable like this anymore. Everything now is about posturing and performing. True vulnerability scares many people.
"Killing Me Softly" Roberta Flack, is a must hear.
Always enjoy watching you guys reacting to music that bring out emotions.., happy or sad... I can tell you appreciate beautiful songs that tug at your heart.. thanks., keep those reactions coming....
One of those all time classic easy listening songs. Still as good today as it was back then.
The irony is that her version of this beautiful love song is anything BUT easy to listen to because of the emotional response it invokes inside of the listener. It touches every feeling, every emotion. It makes your body hyper sensitive to to even the air around you. Its as close to perfect that we will ever experience on this big blue dot.
You struck gold with Roberta Flack.
The first time ever I heard this song, I felt the earth move and shift, making way for a new favorite love song. And how fortunate that it be sung by North Carolina's own Roberta Flack! Her hometown college, Black Mountain College, produced some of the greatest artists, dancers, architects and thinkers as well. My own now departed folks would spend every summer or autumn. A special world you would love. Thanks for sharing this world treasure.
One of the most beautiful voices ever.
Wow,the 10 year old boy fell in love with this song.52 years later, I still am moved to the core by this masterful beautiful song. She is an amazing artist.
You would love Johnny Rivers' "Slow Dancing Swayin' to the music"
I was lucky to get to see her in concert several years ago when she came to Australia. She was 73! She was suffering from pollen allergies and arthritis but still managed to captivate the audience. She was AMAZING!
I saw her at the Montreal Jazz Festival several years ago. She sang songs from her catalog but at the end of the show she said we are at a jazz festival and to me jazz is everybody taking a turn. She introduced each band member, each one a virtuoso and she introduced her keyboardist as her musical director and arranger. He was surrounded by keyboards and instead of taking a keyboard solo he started scat singing. His voice went to the low registers and he arched his back looking straight up and hit incredibly high notes. Roberta was beautiful and gracious, makes me emotional just recalling that show.
My partner of 26 years passed away almost a year ago, and I had this beautiful song played at his funeral. It really says everything about first love, and I felt this every day of those 26 years.
One notable cover was by George Michael, but another was by a Swedish singer named Peter Joback.
First dance song at my wedding. Thank you for reaction. Just beautiful.
One of the most beautiful voices ever.😊
One of my favor songs, great lyrics. She does it great credit.
I REMEMBER THIS ONE FROM 71?I WAS 8 I LOVE THIS ONE!!!!!
Beautiful words...Beautiful voice. No one could have done it better. I haven't heard it in so long it brought tears to my eyes.
WOWWWWWWWW….
I’ve always thought this is the most ROMANTIC song I’ve ever heard, but I never heard her sing it live.
…One of the BEST (and FUNNIEST) reactions I’ve seen.🥰
Smooth as butter! True!
Roberta Flack’s voice finds the connection between her soul and the void in our hearts filling that void and providing that space to be touched by Love!
She turned 87 years old in february. Unbelievable how time flies .. beautiful song.
A beautiful song sung very well by Roberta.
You guys touch my heart with your reactions and how you love the music so much. I love how you are able to recognize the value of the feelings, the passion and compassion in these songs. There is a depth to them that is just not present in today's music. Thank you for sharing this music of my generation with everyone who really needs to hear it.
Incredible Vocal Stylist of Robert Flack saturated our airwaves then. She makes my breath slow down and it’s the anticipation of her next line that creates such satisfaction , gorgeous warmth . There will always be artists, & romantics ,whether the media pays attention, but I love watching younger people discovering humanity music that came before their time. Just as the artists of the times before this ,we learn that there is more to us than the current situation. Our yearning has always been with us . Humans repeat - the styles change ,but at our core we are emotional beings. Music gives us a language that connects and expresses our complexity ☮️
Your reaction was pure just like the song, luv y'all
This performance is so powerful yet tender and I always end up weeping. And all the more so today listening to you and your reaction. Surely you do have the pure love for each other that was conveyed in this song. Your appreciation for classic music like this is heart-warming.
You want to hear an angelic voice, just listen!
Ewan MacColl wrote "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for Peggy Seeger, whom he was in love with. He claimed to have hated every version of it except Seeger's, including this one. He called them his "chamber of horrors." Apparently, the song was so personal to him that he couldn't stand anyone but Seeger to sing it. It was too bad that he couldn't enjoy it, because it's one of the most romantic songs ever written, and Roberta Flack's interpretation is one of the all-time great vocal performances.
One thing I love about this performance is how restrained it is. It's so soft and gentle, just like the emotion it conveys. Many of today's singers could learn something from listening to her. In my opinion, too many of today's singers use over-the-top histrionics. Often a whisper is better than a shout.
This song is incredibly beautiful … ❤
Her most famous song was Killing Me Softly. She wrote it about Don McLean (American Pie and Vincent).
Beautiful Still☮️🌍
We listened to this song very loudly on a good quality music system and even the children loved it and they like the modern version of music made with machines, just her and the piano, some strings, pure music
Another beautiful reaction, thank you ❤ Roberta Flack is such an icon. It's been too long time since I listened to this song.
Love you guys ❤! Roberta can make you cry with that incredible talent. Stunning, stunning song.
Beautiful, Everytime
Well Andre you are right. I’m 65 years old and I’ve never had a love like this song conveys. Maybe that’s why I ended up crying my eyes out. But I still love your reactions. Give Domenica a kiss
❤🎵🎶Great reactions.I just love you two ,you have some much love & respect for one another ...it's refreshing to see.💕
My favorite female vocalist!❤ I love her
An absolute gem. Such a beautiful song. ❤
A kiss of a song.
This song was written for her by singer, songwriter Ewan McCall. He sang it to her over the phone, seems she only had to hear it once.
I've been married 54 yrs..Not all has been perfect..But I till think he is my handsome Marine..And I still love him so much...(My Husband)
We are listening here to something from before the ending of our civilization, to what was still there of it in the last century. Whoever does not see and hear this is probably just too young to understand it.
Back then you sang in choirs or with family , you learned to play , you learned to read novels and poetry , you listened to the radio . Now kids are sold the idea that they can do anything and being famous is better than developing talent or craft . I’m sure their is so much talent out there still .
I agree 👍 I don't think the romance of this song or expressed in this song will not be in this kind of live today.
I just started watching your channel this morning, and I've been binging your reactions.😊 This song will make your feelings show, for sure❤ I was lucky to be able to see her in concert in 1979 or 80. Beautiful.
One of the most beautiful love songs ever. Please do a reaction to her other hit, "Killing Me Softly." It's perfection.
This is my all-time favorite favorite song. It is slightly sped up here so you should really listen to the studio version of it because it is so slow and beautiful.
Genius. simple song writing.. a very special song... simply put one of the great songs.
An interesting story: In 1972 this song won the Grammy for Song of the Year. It beat out another huge hit - "American Pie" by Don Maclean. Then in 1973, Maclean was nominated for Song of the Year for "Vincent." Roberta Flack won again, this time for "Killing Me Softly," which was about the songwriter's reaction to Maclean at one of his concerts.
Oh, and the Maclean song that the songwriter reacted to was "Empty Chairs" a beautiful heartbreak of a song about a breakup. So.... 4 more songs I'd love to see you react to.
You two are the perfect couple for me to watch listening to this for the first time. It's as though Roberta was singing to you, about you and on your behalf. Your remembrance of every first time between you was evident in your continuous immerssion into the sentiments and emotions conveyed. As always, it's a pleasure to watch.
This was my wife's and my song at our wedding when we first danced as man and wife 😅
Written by Ewan MacColl, a British folk singer-songwriter and had been a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain. He is still very popular and influential artist. Oh his third wife was American folk singer Peggy Seeger, who he worked with, but he was banned from entering the USA because of his political associations.
He also wrote Dirty Old Town, two very disparate songs.
@@bengazeley9730 sung memorably by The Pogues.
Enjoyed seeing how much you guys enjoyed this song.
Such a beautiful song, perfect for you two to listen to. Your reaction was perfect, even the bread & butter 😁
Brings a tear to my eye, this performance.
Agree 100% with everything you guys said. Great reaction.
So true no one makes real music like they used to, all they do is covers of those back in the days!!
When songs like this first came out, the US and world were at their most progressive state, Early 70's. When some of the best music of all time came out. They had nothing on what its like today. Today no one has time to enjoy love. Enjoy life, nature, peace, tolorence. Not having to be right all the time.
Love.
A masterpiece 😮
I agree with everything you two said. 🫶😌 Loved your reaction!❤
She was quoted as saying she was thinking about her pet cat that had just past, when she sang this song.
Roberta Flack is one of my all-time favorite female artist. However, this version the temple was a little rushed. The studio version is the best and slower. Good reaction.
Always a great reaction.
Absolutely beautiful song. Huge #1 Song ❤
So good. Such a talent.
Bravisimo!!!
You guys are quickly becoming my favorite channel. ❤
One of the most beautiful songs ever by one of the most beautiful voices that is Roberta Flack❤
I agree with everything you said at the end of your reaction with the comparison of generations ❤️
It was written by Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger (later his wife) in 1957
🇬🇧 "Killing Me Softly" by Roberta Flack is another beautiful song that you should react to.
Andrei, you are such a beautiful human being. You are too Dominica but in a man, those qualities are not on show, (or at least, the males i know aren't!) Dont get me wrong, they're not horrible, they just dont show their emotions. Anyhoo what I'm really saying is... Never stop being you, you are both perfect in every way. ❤🎶🎼✨💖🩵
Your reactions were everything that I hoped they would be....and more. Jack
Not to criticize any contemporary artists. But her performance was so pure, beautiful without embellishment
