In 1965 my boyfriend bought me this album. I was15. In 1966 we got married. I was16 he was 19. This has been my song ever since. Still married im 74. Hes 77. 💕
Wow. Who'd have thunk it? Congratulations.
Thank you, for sharing your beautiful story.
Wow! We were a few years older when we got married. Going on 50 years in October for my wife and I.
God bless you!
Wow! What an awesome coincidence. My wife and I got married in 1966. She was sixteen. I was nineteen. We're still married. She's 74, I'm 77. But I didn't buy her this album. I'm sure in both of our cases nobody expected it to last. Many versions of this song, but none come close to this one.
Many people have covered this song, but this guy OWNS this song.
Because it was the actual one played on 'Ghost'.
You beat me to the exact same words.
FACTS!!!
This a cover too....Original is from 1955. Song was written for a movie called - unchained ( prison related movie ) ....hence the song got it's name unchained melody...and now the lyrics make more sense given the context that this song is sung by the hero from prison....lyrics written by a man and music composed by another man...then Todd Duncan was the official one to sing it in the movie....Al Hibbler made the first famous version of this song...and then righteous brothers blew it out the park.
@@Jems14 well, thank you. I don't mind being schooled.
Bobby was 25 yrs old when he performed this song LIVE, with no modern enhancements. His Mother was in the audence. This performance is one , if not most played video globally. It's considered the most perfect live performance ever. This song was on the radio all the time, during the Vietnam era, while lovers were waiting for their love to return safely from war, and Soldiers yearned to see their promised girl again...and so this song was also a very popular song at weddings! It is timeless!! So beautiful, I hope Bobby , now passed away, can see your reaction, from wherever he is now. What a perfect reaction to a perfect song, and perfect performance!
Well summarized. Thank you.
Yes, thank you, well said.
One of the greatest vocal performances ever.
Except for Pavarotti's Nessun dorma, or Freddy doing his final show, nothing can compare.
Amazingly enough, Bobby had a bad cold at this performance and still gave a stellar performance.
This song is his. Live on national TV. No auto tune, no special effects. Just pure talent! RIP Bobby Hatfield.
Bobby Hatfield is untouchable. So much talent in that handsome face.
💯
Women fall in love with him and this song everytime we hear it. I've heard this song for 40 years and it is still moving.
That little smile at the end tells you that Bobby knew he'd nailed it.
It was a song from an old movie about an inmate asking his girl to wait for him.
When this version became the mega hit in the 60’s, it really resonated because of all the soldiers leaving for Vietnam, many never came back.
Young men fighting and dying while longing for their loved ones…..
No matter who covers it, they can never convey the feelings, the gravitas to the song.
Bobby’s voice and delivery were perfect for all those emotions of humanity.
Your reaction was so touching. Thank you both for showing your vulnerability. Stopping, talking, laughing, crying is why we watch you!
No matter how many people cover this song, Bobby Hatfield's version is far superior to all the rest. Your reaction was perfectly normal. This song, the artist, and the manner in which he performed the song expressed more emotion and feelings in a pure way with lost talent.
Even on the acoustically crappy TV soundstage, he sings like an angel.
I think the reason it is so touching is because it is performed live, and sung so passionately. You rarely hear this today.
Bobby looked as nervous as a kitten at the beginning, but that smile at the end said everything, for he knew he had nailed it. One of the very best live performances of all time.
I love how much you two love each other and show it all the time 😍
Nobody Can Match This Version. Great Reaction As Usual.
This guy and this song is responsible for 5% of America's population today. No auto-tune, no click-tracks, no props, no "dancers" no gimmicks...just pure talent, charisma and honest delivery.
he was so effortless singing this, notice at the very end he isn't even breating hard...amazing. No auto tune just straight ahead vocal power. And that kids is how it's done !!!
Absolutely love your reaction 💗🎶🎵 Such a beautiful song and a more beautiful couple 💕
They truly are
"It, sometimes, destroys you....but in a good way." Best reaction comment I've heard in a long time. Great reaction.
Yes
Back in those days, a voice went into the mic, through an amplifier and out the speakers. No filters, voice manipulation, nothing. You stuffed it up live, everybody saw it and heard it.
Gives you a real appreciation of their vocal talent. Probably the best cover of this song. Can't imagine anyone else doing it justice.
RIP Bobby Hatfield.
You guys win the prize for best reactors!
Watching you two gives me hope for the human race!!
Both of your reactions to Bobby Hatfield's buttery smooth voice & one of a kind performance was heartfelt and we understand why the song by him gives us the emotions he lets us feel. Loved how the song touched your soul. it has done the same thing to me & so many others going back to 1965. I did see both of the Righteous Brothers perform in Indiana in 1966. Then got to see Bill Medley & his current partner Bucky Heard perform 2 yrs ago in California to a packed house. Enjoying your reactions.
Wow! Thank you! Much appreciated 😊
One of the most beautiful vocal recordings ever. It never fails to touch me. Thank you for sharing how it touched you. ☮❤🎶
You two are sweet together. Love how your husband tenderly touches your cheek.☺️ I am 75 and remember this song from way back! Thank you!
This beautiful man was the master. He had a powerhouse voice but knew when to hold it back to create a love story from the lyrics, the melody and instrumentals. Andy Williams' Orchestra also held back and let the strings support the voice. The combination was a work of art which is why this live performance is considered one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, of all time on national TV. It's so nice to see you get back to these two performers from my era and hope to see you eventually get into their more lively R&B performances where their energy and humor shine. There were so many sides to their vocal abilities and some of it will knock your socks off. There aren't enough piano keys for what they were capable of. Really love you two and thank you.
His vocal gymnastics are unbelievable! Legitimately operatic!!
No doubt it was a joke that Bill Medley told Andy Williams - when he said that he did not believe this song would be a hit. In truth, both these great singers knew that the melody of this iconic song better fit Bobby Hatfield's tone and range. It was a wise move, and the song has become an inspirational hit for generations!
A coin flip decided it. At least that is most commonly accepted as the truth. Bill produced it and played keyboards, which in fact is an extremely important part of the song, as it is a series of arpeggios that represent the “unchained” part of the song. So while only Bobby sings, it’s appropriate to consider it a production by both of them. Imho
So Bill never tried his own version, just for kicks / curiosity if nothing else? I'm curious how that would sound. Think it would be close to being as good?
Bill Medley played on and produced the recording, though the Andy Williams orchestra played on this performance. Both the comment about it not being a hit and the coin flip are jokes, the latter becoming a rumor because Bill repeated it though at others times has stated that it was Bobby's choice of a solo. In an interview with them Bobby shared that he sang this song with his original group The Variations and said "I had that one in my pocket".
I'm a 57 year old Scotsman & i'm not afraid to admit my eyes well up everytime i hear this song . Unchained melody is in my Top 5 songs that really pull at my heart strings along with Frank Sinatra's - My Way , Sarah Brightman & Andre Bocelli's - Time To Say Goodbye , Judy Garland's - Over The Rainbow & The Beatles - Something . 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵👩🎤👨🎤🧑🎤🙋♀🙋♂🙋
So we've done two out of 5 of your favourite songs. 'Unchained Melody' and 'My Way' Three to go 💚😉 Thanks for sharing ☺️
You had to have talent to sing back then ... no auto tune, no re-takes, no gimmicks .. just pure God given talent.. Bobby is a countertenor .. amazing range, effortless ...known as blue eyed soul ... Love your reaction!
Perhaps it is the innocence of the era, the purity of the performance. For me, 1965 was right at the end of that era, soon to be overwhelmed by world events and commercialism of the industry.
Sometimes, Miss Dominika, a song will reach deep down inside us and for reasons we don't even know, will squeeze our heart until tears well up and spill over..
Thank you both for sharing your musical journey with us.
No apology needed, lovely reaction.
Big fan of Angelina but she and everyone else really should not have bothered covering this song because they are so so second best to the perfection of Bobby Hatfield.
The man in the middle is Andy Williams, possibly the greatest crooner of the 60s!Have you heard, seen his Moon River?
Very happy you are mentioning Andy Williams - totally agree it would be great for them to listen to Moon River.
Having heard this song thousands of times, and loving it every time, I must say, that I love you two every bit as much.
It doesn't matter how many times you see this, it will always hit you that way. Something so beautiful, you can hardly believe it's real and you feel it actually touch your soul. Thank you for sharing with us. ❤
Beautiful reaction. His musical ornaments are like leaves falling from a tree and curling in the air as it slowly drops to the ground. I think this is the definitive version.
Ps. The way you caressed her cheek as she teared up. Your love was showing. Never lose that❤❤
This is the incomparable Counter Tenor voice of the late great Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers. Done 59 years ago (Live) in (1965) on the NBC Andy Williams Television Show. The song written back in 1955 for a prison movie title "Unchained." Was composed by multi award winning composer Alex North with Lyrics by Hy Zaret. The NBC Studio Orchestra and Bobby Hatfield gave a performance that was one for the ages. It has been considered by many as the greatest live television performance in music history. This performance in 1965 of Unchained Melody" has become the quintessential version of them all. And ever since then all orchestras and singers have used this version ever since. The rest as they say is history. Great reaction as always. Your lovely wife never realized this was the greatest performance done on live television ever. She knew how Bobby's voice and the NBC Studio Orchestras performance has moved her so much. You add the lyrics of Hy Zaret, and you got an instant classic. The television host Andy Williams said it best at the end. "Beautiful."
You are moved by Bobby not the song. He always sang with great passion and meant every word he sang and made the listeners feel it too. He was absolutely wonderful. His vocal control and range was amazing but with his passion it was heavenly.
Arguably the best song ever recorded.
I think this may be the best live performance ever.
Best ever ??¿(((
Nilot
one of the greatest vocal performances of all time
Seeing tears in your wife's eyes made me tearful.
Such a fantastic track.
Love both your reactions.
I have long thought that music is one of the most powerful forces in the world. It has brought people together to support causes, inspired patriotism, feel spirituality more deeply, feel love more strongly, heal aching hearts or break hearts and so on. I have been playing guitar for over 50 years and I am thankful for the gift of music every time I play. There is certainly no shame in being moved by a good song; it happens to me daily.
Righteous brothers were so special everyone loved these guys
One thing that helped with the mood with this song that the other versions don't have, and that's the classical orchestra backing Bobby up, starting soft and gentle with the strings and ending with the trumpets. Outstanding and incomparable performance.
I cried along with you, Dominica. The perfect version of an iconic song. 🧬 🎭
Bobby's vocal style just put so much emotion into this beautiful song. So many wonderful memories of this one.
No body can sing it Like Bobby Hatfield! He is the best❤❤❤❤
This is the original!
Actually this is not the original. It was written for a 1955 movie “Unchained”
Perfect song and the reaction matched, perfect! Thank you for another 15 or so minutes of happiness.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊💚
Always love your reactions - they are always real, not fake, always true... this performance was epic and I'm glad you finally got to see it.
Sometimes it's all in the delivery. Mr Hatfield hits this one out of the park. Righteous indeed!!
It is a beautiful song, and no one can sing it better than this.
Absolutely stunning performance thankyou for sharing this with us, and your reaction.
You know how young couples, in love always have a song that is, "their song". As a teenager, I was talking with my mother one day, she said that this was her and my father's song, when they were dating. I am 65yrs old now, my parents have both died in the last 6 years. I cannot listen to this version of the song without crying....but it is a sweet, sad kind of crying.
Thank you for sharing how a couple can have a song and how that song can also be touching for their child after they've left, and that this song did that for you all. 💞💓
Beautiful song ❤ You two have a beautiful love for each other and it's a beautiful thing to see! 😊😊❤❤❤❤
Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song.
Guess it's songs and performances like this that makes me stuck in the 60s! THANK U👍👏👏👏❤❤✌️
I have heard this song covered many times, but this performance always makes me weep. Such control, such range - perfection. So beautiful. I love how you two get so emotionally involved with the music. I feel much the same. God bless your both...
Thanks for doing this song we had this as our wedding dance song 27 years ago.
The love and tenderness between the two of you is as beautiful to behold as this song. Thank you for sharing. All the way from South Africa.
Absolute best version of this song. The arrangement is perfect too.
The orchestra was certainly killing it here too. It all came together perfectly
Bobby had rehearsed with the Andy Williams Orchestra.
Got to be one of the best live performance of all time .
I think it was generation that had grown up suffering the Great Depression and WWII, they understood how important it was to express your feelings, to love, to laugh, and to live to the fullest.
This is a Vietnam era song, not a WW2 song.
@@luciusjulius8320 The vietnam war didn't start until November 1955, and the US didn't get seriously involved into it until almost 10 years later. This song came out in February 1955. @Rick-or2kq is right, this is from the generation of people that grew up during WWII.
@@luciusjulius8320 100% wrong.....this song was written for a 1955 prison film called "Unchained" starring Elroy Crazy Legs Hirsch and is about a prisoner missing and hoping his girl will wait for him until he's released. Just examine some of the words....time goes by so slowly, etc.
Really forgotten your history: this is the epitome of the Baby Boomer generation -- POST-World War II and WAY past the Depression. This was the '60s; those who suffered and achieved in the Depression and WWII were the Greatest Generation (so dubbed).
@@user-ko8kv7hd6d You're wrong. The song was recorded and released by the Righteous Brothers when it became a hit in 1965 when the US was involved in Vietnam. 1955 was ten years after the end of WW!! and 20 years after the depression. You don't know your history.
Bravo Bobby Hatfield👏👏👏👏 Such a beautiful genuine reaction from you guys, and there's absolutely no need to apologise for re-starting this masterpiece✌
I heard this at every school dance 🥹
I love how this man adores his wife so much.
I was in high school when the Righteous Brothers came out in 1964. I watched Bobby sing this song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. He owns this song. No one sang it better than he did. No auto tunes, just pure raw talent. RIP Bobby! We miss hearing your beautiful voice! ❤🙏
Listen to the simple but elegant strings in the background. Even those give me goosebumps. No auto tune or electronic adjustments made in this LIVE performance.
This (IMHO) is one of the top three live performances of all time.
Another one in my top three is Procol Harum (live in Denmark) singing White Shade Of Pale.
Great reaction. ✌️
The magic of shows like this is that it can wrestle tears when there were none before. And copious quantities, I am surprised to report. But my God, that fellow can sing and emote simultaneously! Andy Willams is most known for "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" where he performed it on his show in a most festive manner.
We all get teary-eyed because this song was sung so amazingly beautiful. And it was sung live on TV.
Bobby Hatfield’s voice is unmatched for its range and mastery. If you see reactions by music instructors and trained singers they will tell you how difficult the things he does are. But a shout out also to the exquisite orchestration as the violins set up a call and response counterpoint to his voice.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL ❤❤❤❤
I’m so happy that you two finally reacted to this music.
I actually expected to see Andrei have the more emotional reaction.
This song was played at my first wedding. I thought it fitting to have it played at my wife’s memorial service. Every time I hear it I still see the look of love in her eyes as we stood at the altar and then how it made me feel at her memorial. In spite of the conflicting emotions, I’ll sit here and watch reactors fall under its spell for long times.
Watching your reaction Domika and then Andreis reaction to you is medicine for my soul.
Thank you so much!
I love your love!
A mike ,amp, speakers thats all singers needed in the 60's.
Serenity: a state of utter calm and unruffled repose or quietude.
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed you guys as a couple. My husband of 25 years i just died. And I have to tell you the affection I see between you two gives me hope for the future you guys are beautiful together.
Thank you for the kind words. Much love from both of us 💚
It is pure and innocent!! full of love💞
This is my Mom and Dad's song. I have a video of them dancing to it. I treasure it.
Beautiful ❤️
I think alot of that emotion is due to him...Bobby Hatfield had an incredible voice and so much charisma.
This is one of the sweetest reactions I have ever seen."What happened Lady?", wow.
And I totally feel it, this is singing from the heart, so pure. What a voice, crystal clear and so so so warm... what a tone, what talent. Incredible.
I have seen the clip so many times now and almost every time I have goosebumbs.
Thank you for sharing you're reactions, it was very moving.
Domika has found out that NOTHING and/or NO ONE beats the original.🙂
This isn't the original...The song dates from 1955 and had already been a huge hit several times over before the Righteous Brothers recorded it. Probably the best version though!
Many artists have recorded this song but NOBODY sang it like Bobby Hatfield. RIP Bobby.
I have read that the singer's mother was in the audience when he performed this song.
She's the lady in blue just to his right, front row...😊
Always thought this was the greatest love song of all time. After many decades, still haven't found one that tops it.
It’s been said music can be the heartbeat of our soul… Nice reaction and review
1965 my and I danced to this and. Mrried in 1966. Now she has passed away and the words still mean the same. ❤❤
This song was from a movie in the 50s callled Unchained. About a man in prison.
No apologies needed!
We appreciate hearing it over and over.
And your heartfelt reaction was wonderful to see.
You are very sweet, gentle people!
Hi Andre & Dominica, your reaction to unchained melody is so lovely and sincere. You got me in tears with you both. Keep up your fantastic reactions. Very kind regards from GB ,England, Birmingham, Peaky Blinders Country.
Whoo hoo! Love me some Peaky Blinders 👍💚
Although many people associate this song with a soldier at war pleading for his sweetheart back home to wait for him to return, especially as Bobby made this a big hit in the later sixties when the Vietnam war was a big issue in the US, the song's origins were further back and was about a young felon doing time in prison and asking his sweetheart to wait for him to serve out his time before returning home to her. But nobody could sing this song like Bobby, and leave at least half of any audience in tears at the end of it.
I love your reactions! You are both so genuine and caring! We need more people like you in this world!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I absolutely loved your reaction. It brings tears to my eyes too. The song is a masterpiece.
You are so right!
1960's America was the GREATEST!
I LOVE YOU TWO!!
Simply the MOST beautiful so EVER
The octaves Bobby flows through is truly amazing!
Absolute rarity to have that control in front of a live audience let alone being live for the first time in front of your mum 💐
They were on the Andy William Show, the man in the middle. And it was a great show. The three of them sang a Ray Charles tune called Tell Me What I Say and its very enjoyable and funny. Iconic. Bobby have the best voice ever for this song. No doubt.
Ahhh what a great reaction. It's such an Iconic and beautiful song. Stay safe ❤
You guys are made for this song. 🌈
