I disagree with a lot of commenters here. His whole thing is videography, he brings a fresh outlook on materials we probably have all watched a thousand times; so watching the summary videos beforehand makes a lot of sense in his case, it give him more room to go through the whole BU and bring his particular insight to us; otherwise it would have been hours of intense confusion, which would be a shame and aren't there enough reactions on youtube that fit that description? Good job alex, you nice keep going.

Alex, I hope you don't let some of the comments discourage you. It's not a huge deal to have watched this. Yes, it spoiled a lot narratively, but the short films & Highlight Reel have a lot of value for your reactions apart from that, since you're more focused on the visual communication & execution of it.

Hi Alex! Just to clarify one thing, in case you don’t know about this: whenever they say the number of a year, as in “YEAR 22” or “YEAR 19,” it’s always referring to the age that Seokjin is at that time, since everything is seen from his point of view. So it does not mean the calendar year.
In an example where it’s talking about YEAR 22, and the topic is something going on with JUNGKOOK, remember that JK is five years younger than Seokjin, so he would be 17 during that little bit of the story. As you get to know the boys and their ages, it becomes really easy to quickly do the math and figure out who is how old at any point in the story. For example, Taehyung and Jimin are both three years younger than Seokjin, RM and J-hope are two years younger, and Yoongi is one year younger.
All this extra information comes from the BTS NOTES, compiled from little journal-type booklets included in the physical albums when you purchased them, that were originally just printed in Korean, but now are available in English in two hefty volumes through Amazon, titled BTS THE NOTES #1 and #2. This is all brought to life in the SAVE ME webtoon.

Basically... The MVs & content were *not* released in chronological order. ARMY was constantly putting together the non-linear puzzle as content was released. So you just spoiled yourself a whole heckofalot 😅😭🤠

It is only spoiling if he has to do an itinerary dictated by others. The BU is sufficiently complex to be genuinely engaging. Further, it is variously sourced. XCeleste did not release this mv to violate your sensibilities of how correctly to attack the story or to create a now you know so you needn't explore and marvel. As an ARMY I say please allow people to approach things their own way without judging their choices with statements like "you just spoiled yourself".
i think everyone commenting that everything was spoiled for you drastically underestimates just how confusing the highlight reels and short films are upon first watch. i actually think watching this beforehand will make your experiences of watching other more complicated BU videos more enjoyable since most people who watch them have no idea what's going on and the confusion becomes the main part of the reaction sadly. clearly from this video, you would have been missing a LOT of background info (since most of the storyline understanding comes from the webtoon) and the videos wouldnt have made any sense so dont worry, the experience of watching them has not been spoiled for you there's still a lot more to take in and analyze :) she also doesn't touch any of the demian stuff connected to wings era (heavily so w the short films) so i still think youll have plenty of room for theorizing!
Exactly, I actually suggest people to watch the summary videos before getting into the webtoons, notes, etc because it drastically helps. A lot of the storyline exists in the music videos itself so I don't even recommend to read webtoons and notes early into the BU. I feel it just confuses even more.

the clip you mentioned at the very beginning that you liked is actually a scene from the love yourself highlight reel, and it comes later in the storyline after the wings era :)

It all came from the highlight reels, wings short films, japanese mv's, and etc...
Guys it really doesn't matter if he watched summary videos or not because when I got into BU and when many of my friends did, we started with the summary videos. For many people these videos help to sort out information and infact organize the new content that they will be watching. Directly jumping into BU without prior context might be too overwhelming.
Same! I know some people enjoy figuring out clues as part of the experience. But I don't think this was his goal tbh, he wanted to appreciate the storyline being portrayed through the cinematography of the different videos (bc also everyone was insisting that he won't fully understand until he has the background information) and he wouldn't have been able to do that if he didn't have a guideline video to start off from!! Same as you i first got into the fandom by being explained through videos like this what the story was about, honestly maybe if I didn't see those I wouldn't be here years later. I don't get the negativity in the comments.

This video goes in chronological order which means the music videos are all mixed up since a lot of time travel is involved. But I still think it’s good to watch the summery since your more focused on camera work, cinematography, etc than trying to piece together clues.
One of the happiest things for BTS fans is to find symbols in their fictional worlds with their true personalities. I'm so glad you started this BU. Especially, as you said in the last video, you said you had thought of committing suicide, and I shed tears when I heard that. Perhaps we are all the same. Especially you said that you prefer Star worlds and Marvel series, so this BU is yours too.
I'm glad that you saw EXCELECE's explanation first before starting BU's WING'S series of film videos. Now you can start the Wing's series properly. As I said before, I am a 48-year-old Korean majoring in art theory and working in related fields. BTS' worldview is a huge “psychodrama” in which seven characters actually grow beyond simple entertainment. This makes BTS powerful.
If you look at their MV, “Fake Love” and “DNA” again, you'll feel more Goose bomb. Now you will understand why SUGA is always close to fire, why JIMIN is always with water, and why the order of holding and shaking the hands of seven people in the "DNA" music video is meaningful. Because BTS agencies are really crazy about these crazy details. All their music videos are rich in these details. Therefore, knowing BU guarantees crazy fun.
You're right about the fictional selves reflecting parts of the really people. I think especially with yoongi's love of the piano and music in general. From a young age, he went to piano lessons and he actually has perfect pitch on the piano, meaning be can basically play a song after hearing it. He even wrote a song called first love about his love for his piano and how much it helped him in his life. He also wanted to be a lyricist and producer since he was really really young. A bit after, he started to also want to be a rapper. His parents did not start out supporting his pursuit in a music career, and he went quite a while until they did. He'd travel to Seoul to sell his music but often got ripped off hand would have to go back home with only enough money for a ticket and nothing more. Then he became an underground rapper and b-boy under the name gloss. And finally he auditioned for big hit! Yoongi is basically living the life he's wanted since he was younger.
He has also been very open about his mental struggles, especially in his song "the last" where he talks about his social anxiety, and depression. He's the most open about his mental health among the members and wants to talk about it to lower the stigma (especially in Korea cuz the stigma in Korea is a lot worse than the west) and to help his fans who may also struggle with those things.
Oh! Also just so you're not concerned, his parents support him now, and in his youth he had his older brother's support.
Many of these clips are from the Wings Short Films. Each member has their own film that tells a bit about them and their story with a song
That scene of Namjoon at the gast station, where he got all the garbage thrown at him is from the video "For You", when they were all secretly working to help JK.

While it is cool to watch the MVs and come up with your own theories and ideas, FOR ME it's nice to check out this summary and THEN watch the MVs because that way you can really appreciate the details and actually catch all things going on. BUT that's just my opinion. BEcause honestly........ I HAD NO IDEA THERE IS A BTS UNIVERSE UNTIL I WATCHED THAT VIDEO SUMMARY ............Ya, call me stupid idc. I honestly think you did good by watching this explanation beforehand. Cuz the storyline is impossible to figure out on its own just by watching the Wings clips. This way you can focus on the cinematography. Plus there is a looot more to theorize than this vid brought up. So nothing lost in there, Alex!

Hey! Each comeback album comes with a “notes book” she got a lot of information from those notes! That’s where the days and backstories come from! Unfortunately those notes are in Korean and have to be translated.

i think you might not have realized just how intricately tied into their content the whole BU was 😭 vids and clues about this universe were literally in their concerts, other mvs including in other languages, concept pictures, performance stages, award ceremony stages, outfits, fake tattoos, etc FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. you'll even find a few clues to the BU in their very first mv. some of these vids were vcrs from their concerts from like 6 yrs ago before fans were even aware there was a storyline to be put together in the first place. it wasn't until i need u came out that people were aware that there was a story and started linking things to other vids and clues that were being brought up from previous content and then got even more frenzied when the prologue came out which proved that the storyline was in fact an actual thing and not just fan imagination.
some of the vids you were confused about the source were from concerts, japanese mvs, their game app that also links to the BU, and a LARGE majority of the background information about the story and characters are from the books that came out (yes, there are books too!!). The books are called The Notes 1 and The Notes 2. Prior to the books coming out, the notes were actually just small little pamphlets that were being released in parts with the albums and fans had to put the dates together to understand the timeline but we were hella confused when there were multiple contradictory entries for the same dates 😭😭 it wasn't until very recently that the time travel was finally confirmed and we were able to understand why and BigHit put them all together and released the books. It's a lot to take in so don't mind the comments talking about spoiling it because tbh unless you're willing to invest yourself into looking it ALL up, this is probably for the best lol. Can't wait to see you react to the short films!! Those are honestly some of my fave content from them. You should also check out their Wings Tour trailer, it was beautiful!!

Good news: The story sources overlap. I. watched the webtoon, one at a time and it seemed to me it was a visual retelling from the book, The Notes part 1. I think Celeste did a magnificent job matching video clips. I’m a baby Army and don’t know much about the Bangtan Universe.
Kinda wish you just went for the highlight reels and short films but I get that the plot can be confusing and overwhelming especially if your more focused on the camera stuff (you probably have commenters telling you to do a billion different things so honestly do what you like)... idk. I kinda liked hearing your take without outside information first idk. Like this definitely spoils a lot of the stuff leading up to wings since the summary jumps a lot... not your fault at all for not realizing

to be fair the short films are extremely complex visually and narratively (filled to the brim with demian references) so i think this video just gave him a baseline understanding with so much more to be interpreted
@@kall3y your absolutely right about the barrage of references, still, personally I prefer blind first reactions (with further deep diving afterwards, kind of in a manner that feels like making a discovery of whyyyy that hit so hard or why that piece was so effective or beloved)... it just feels more genuine seeing what connects on an individual level at first, but I get that every experience and preference is unique. It’s not every day that a reactor is so interested in picking up details/nuance so I am grateful for that.
@@Kaeldra3 yeah i understand that. i just feel like the short films and highlight reel are an entirely new level. one can easily come up with theories for the mvs since theyre relatively straight forward but the short films and highlight reel are so intricate yet abstract and require information from the notes and webtoon to understand them, whereas this at least gives him a direction to make sense of things-i really dont think it gives him the full story at all more like the bullet points. i get that having that direction takes away from a fresh watch narratively but he can still make personal connections (as i believe he will), he'll just be less confused on the storyline aha
Thanks for the watch Alex! I don't know if its changed but I just google searched bts save me webtoon and read it on my desktop in one sitting. I didn't download any apps. Also the notes she mentions are novels that you can read that go really in depth with the storyline. Good reads, especially if your a reader. HYPE is also working on making this story into a kdrama.
When you say "when did this happen". That's the really cool thing abou BTS. They have a was of weavering different information in not just in their music videos, but anything can give be clues. That's also the case with non-BU content. Once their latest Korean album BE dropped back in late November, we found references in the lyrics to their speeches from the second time they spoke at the United Nations (which was held just a couple of months prior to the album). The leave eastereggs EVERYWHERE, and videos. Some are een from concerts etc.... I still haven't found everything yet, because I only became ARMY in August.
watching these kinds of videos remind me just how much i’ve forgotten about the BU, and how interesting and complex it is, and then amazes me over and over again

I know this is late and probably irrelevant for you know, but yes, the charecters seem to be somewhat inspired by BTS members' personal experiences.
-Namjoon/RM being the responsible leader, a heavy burden on his shoulder.
-Jin being the oldest and looking out for the group(all of them does this in different ways) and making sure they can all be comfortable in a dynamic(as the oldest, he has a big part of how the members can act around him and how comfortable they can be around each other).
-Yoongi/Suga has played the piano for a long time and used to perform in front of family/visitors. He also used to smoke and has spoken about his battle with depression, and his outlet with musick.
-Hoseok/J-hope wanted to leave BTS before their debut but decided to stay and fight/accept their fate. His passion is also dancing, and he used to do live streams called "Hope On The Street" where he would freestyle dance.
-Jimin has openly talked about past struggles with his self-image and used to be quite unhealthy in how he wanted to be better and prove himself both in looks and abilities.
-Taehyung/V used to be a "naughty" (but still polite and lovely, just free-spirited and a bit more "wild" in his younger days) kid, getting scolded a lot.
-Jungkook practily being raised by BTS because of his young age of 13 (when he first met members), and 15 when he debuted with BTS. He has also spoken about how he struggles most when he sees his members hurting mentally.
Those are some of the most prominent things I can see that I can see are similar to their characters as well.

the amount of sources she used is quite impressive honestly bc i remember the shots are from mvs, the webtoon, the wings short films, old content, the highlight reel on their yt channel, their japanese music vids and im pretty sure vcr from the bts begins concert. also, storyline is also made up from the notes collection which is a merchandise, there is a dedicated twitter account from the company (smeraldo books official)

@@LoveTheBasics i totally forgot about their game they have now! its call bu story game and it fills in a lot of the blanks as the storyline gets fleshed out more, xcelest made a 2020 update of this video including the 2nd notes book and the game and she goes into detail of the tragedies the boys experience found in the webtoon, the reason behind them found in the game, and the solution found in the notes

I'm glad you watched this before reacting to more BU videos , now you have a better understanding of the story and can grasp on more details in future reactions since you're not gonna be so confused. Honestly, wings era is still my favorite so I'm exited for your reactions and your comments on the short films because the are BEAUTIFUL
All the back story comes from "notes" that are distributed by the albums. So each album will have different notes. For example, the love yourself her have "notes" and we will get random notes that have different background story (different dates)
I’m so happy to see this. In your specific case I really think this was the way to go. The BU is so disjointed and out of sequence and you love the shots and the lighting and the building blocks of what make up the images so much that I think it would have been distracting trying to piece the narrative together while you were really just wanting to pause and gush over what kind of equipment they must have used to do this or puzzle over how they were able to do that. And I’ve already gotten a bit of a sense of wistfulness from some of your universe video reactions (not only BTS) that you just KNOW there is symbolism going on and you just don’t know what it actually symbolizes.
This i think will help you on that front.
Plus, I am so excited to get your thoughts on each of the BU films and Music videos because of the way you explain the behind the scenes stuff, no matter if you’ve seen it before or not. Your comments are always really interesting.
And I don’t know of many people who are doing reactions that have rewatched the main BU vids after watching the summary so you might just make some observations or connections we haven’t heard yet.
Question: have you done much work on sound design or worked with people that do that, because I think the soundscape is a big part of the short films.
I know I'm pausing again to write but I was worried I'd get caught up and forget. I'm at the part in the video where she explained why Jungkook jumps from the building and you said that hits close to home or something to that effect. I saw your eyes in that moment and remembered your get to know you video. So, this was a lot of words to ask "are you ok?" I genuinely want to make sure you're ok because there was no trigger warning for that explanation. I have PTSD a bit from various things so I get that look you had. Keep in mind that not all the content that contains the storyline is from mvs. It is also pulled from WEBTOON and other content like “notes” that were released following the story of each member which is how we were able to piece together the story

Helpful Info (Maybe 👁👄👁):
The order has been mentioned a couple of times but the WINGS era wasn’t mentioned in full detail - the MV orders aren’t even in Timeline order, but it kinda makes sense lol. The video showed parts of the WINGS clips (around the background on each character) but focused more on the eras before and after.
While it did give a lot of spoilers it kind of helps to know the background when seeing the clips because the visuals link to their stories and connect with other members.
Most of the clips you haven’t seen are WINGS, Euphoria, LY Highlight Reel, and Epiphany(and several clips from the Japanese MVs of songs you’ve reacted to already, such as I Need U and Blood, Sweat & Tears- wouldn’t recommend reacting to those as Japanese versions are strict w copyright but would love to see a commentary on the cinematography aspects and overall thoughts maybe). You got the gist of the story but I know you’ll love the visuals (and understand maybe 2% more than you would’ve w/o this video😅 even us veteran Army’s struggle at times so no worries).
Would also like to mention that even if you watch the videos religiously and read the WEBTOON, a lot of the connecting information and dates actually come from THE NOTES - like actual notebooks that BTS released (I believe they’re like journal entries from the characters POV)
This video did a good job of summing up the storyline but also missed A LOT. Hope it’s not too confusing once you actually watch the rest of the MV’s.

I've never seen this video and I've been following bts since the beginning. I've always been pretty confused about the storyline since the contents weren't usually released in a chronological order. That being said, the people who are saying that watching this video has spoiled the entire BU for you are underestimating how complicated it is. I hope you have fun delving into the actual BU now! Glad you watched the BU summary video, it helps understand what goes on much more! The summary is chronological, but the way the films, mvs and notes were released is not chronological. I am really look forward to the short films reaction! When you mentioned you want to shoot films with a black background setting.... Wait for these short films, you are gonna love them! Also, someone should have given a trigger warning, the story of these boys is actually quite full of trauma and also suicide and feelings of helplessness... Quite rough to take it all in at once.
Don’t let people stress you about how to do what with the BU. They have had their journey, this is YOUR journey. I appreciate your expertise and I’m in it for the long haul💜 thanks

One of the other scenes you said you liked, Jimin on the bed with curtains on either side, was from the short films. Both sets of videos are visually so beautiful - I know you will enjoy them. There have been some suggestions to watch the Japanese I Need U and Run MV's; they are such beautiful videos and I really wanted to hear your take on them. And they've got BU content so I wish they weren't getting skipped over. xCeleste used them in her video because they contain scenes that are referred to in the Notes (diaries). In the end, it doesn't matter what order you watch MVs - even in the early videos, it's clear there are alternative storylines. Big Hit didn't even give us the story chronologically. Munchausen is when it's you that pretends to be sick. Munchausen by proxy is the one you were talking about, where parents make their kids think they're sick, and make others think the kid is sick as well. I can't remember the names but this woman did munchausen by proxy to her kid, going so far as to give her medicine, and I think she got her surgeries but I'm not sure what or how she convinced doctors, but she completely physically and mentally abused her kid. When the kid became a teen, she ended up killing her mother. I understand the kid to some extent. Her mother purposely made her sick, confined her to a wheelchair & did a bunch of heinous stuff to her, stealing her childhood. It's such a selfish & terrible disorder ☹️
Some of the clips are from the MVs of their japanese songs like For You & Blood sweat & tears + I need you+ run japanese ver so you gotta watch that plus they're amazing & some clips are from concert VCRs and stuff. They leave clues and hints everywhere and armys find them & make theories

Nooo ur spoiling yourself! You should’ve watched the wings short films and the highlight reels first because they play a huge part of the story. And it kinda doesn’t make sense to watch this before getting into the wings content because that’s when some of the major things happen🙁
he just has a basic understanding of the storyline now. if anything it adds more value to his reactions since it wont just be him utterly confused (and he would be because you literally cant understand the short films and highlight reel without the webtoon and notes, which he doesnt react to)

It is not that bad that you watched this compilation it will actually help you and there are a lot of new information that we got thought the notes, the new mobile game and the videos since then. So it is not that big of a problem ;) . It will help you to figure out the Storyline better when you will be watching the videos.
