The Chinese market has this naming issue with the rx 500 series. every time you see something advertised as a rx 580 or rx 580 2048SP, assume it's a 570x. And usually it's a good deal, but it's never an actual 580

Chinese Only “RX580 “2048sp”” is just RX570. Like GeForce RTX 4090D, Radeon RX 7900 GRE et cetera. GPU manufacturers have always sold products with the same name but down specs in China. Even the recent product I just gave you as an example.

I built a similar machine for our daughter, cept I went with a $70 8GB RX-5500. Really nice card, runs cool, low power and with FSR and 720p resolution I run all her games at max settings. Even Tekken 8 gets 60fps with max settings on a Ryzen 5600 + RX-5500 with some tuning in the AMD settings. Looks really nice. $33 is a sick deal, my issue is official driver support, but the Nimez drivers exist.

Love the video. I think this video is a good example though of how dated those cards are. You just did a video showing off the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS APU. The fact that this dedicated GPU is at the same level as that APU shows how far we have gotten. While I love the build and the idea, I think a better option would be to budget just a bit more and go all used with guaranteed parts. I know you suggested that at the end of the video, but just putting in my 2 cents.

Rosewill has been a pain in my arse. Every Rosewill PSU failed within 18 months. Switched to Corsair and I've been happy since with their power supplies. Now the RX580 for $33 is a solid deal no matter how your cut it.

    • @hababacon
      @hababacon Před 4 měsíci

With that said I rebuilt my used PC recently. Changed motherboard going form mini ITX Taichi to Gigabyte full 1151 AP WIFI. Went with Corsair 750 watt power supply, fully modular, and swapped out my GTX 1080 TI for AMD 6700XT which is about 20% faster than the GTX 1080 TI in most games. Went with Corsair 400D case and upgraded the water cooler to some unknown brand I got for $50 (possible mistake there). My CPU is Intel 8700K which limits the 6700XT performance abit, but I play at 1800P or so using that card. Added WD SN770X 1 TB NVME drive to replace my Crucial MX500. Overall I spent about $360 in upgrades. My 6700XT was taken from my 2nd PC which was upgraded with RTX 4070 Super. The NVME SSD was about $74, case was $35 after I applied $80 in gift cards. Power supply was taken from my 2nd PC after I upgraded to 850 watt psu. Motherboard was $160, end results, the system feel much smoother with the NVME, some games my 6700XT is almost twice as fast, a few games its about the same, while the majority it's around 20-35 faster than the GTX 1080 TI.

Depends if you want a GPU or not, that's what will tip the scale. If you don't need a GPU then your best option is to get a Lenovo Thinkcentre M900 Tiny or newer. You can get an entire skylake or newer system for $60 or less. If you want a GPU then best is to get a Dell Optiplex SFF and an Intel Arc A380. Or RTX 3050 Low Profile if you want to double gpu performance for $50 more.

It if says 2048sp on the listing, it is a flashed rx470/570. You can also use GPU-Z, it should show that it has 2048 stream processors. Meanwhile, a legit rx580/590 is 2304 stream processors. The only difference between a 580 and 590 is clock speed. In the Chinese market however, they usually have an rx590GME, which is basically just an rx580 due to it's clock speed.
I used to have an rx570 2048sp, sold it for 90$ and bought an rx590GME for the same price. I had fun tinkering with AMD cards since they undervolt and overclock well and they are relatively easy to BIOS flash for modding.

Just keep something in mind: The RX 580 2048 SP which is what Window's is saying it is and was advertised on Ali Express has a die serial number of 215-0910052 according to tech powerup. The original listing at 1:25 for the GPU shows a 2048 designation. These RX 580's with the 2048 designation came from AMD cut down from the factory and general are 10ish percent slower then there full fat RX580 counter parts.

Had really awful driver issues where the PC would literally freeze when alt-tabbing back and forth between a browser and like, World of Warcraft. Classic. I ended up returning mine quickly. The GPU could be remanufactured from a mining farm in China - new board but used chip. A used USA GPU with a single-owner (non-mining) is probably a better deal. Also, a 512GB SSD will hold Forza Horizon + GTA V + Red Dead Redemption + one other game (120GB/ea), so you probably want to get 1GB or 2GB to be safe. Microsoft Flight Simulator alone is 150GB+. Also I'm here to recommend the ThermalRight Phantom Spirit 120 cooler (any model) for about $41-$43. It's dead silent and the last cooler you'll ever need to buy!

They are basically a Western RX 570, in all but the name. Then later all those RX 580 2048 SP's were put into mining rigs. These are likely old chips that are cleaned up, repasted and put with a new shroud and re-sold. Not a terrible thing tbh when they've been going for this long they're probably fine to use. Won’t touched used storage, but buys a GPU from Aliexpress…
My local Staples store was clearancing out some 512gb HP-branded nvme SSDs for $14.99. They’re pretty slow, but it’s handy to have a spare lying around.

That is not the vanilla rx 580 cuz its the 2048sp version which is a cut down of the original in terms of performance.

Hi ETA. So, I went onto ebay - looking for a Radeon RX 580 to possibly buy - and practically every single one said - Part Only - as in - they were broken. So my problem is two-fold. One - I can't seem to find a working card - and two with all the "Parts Only" listings I see - and there are a LOT - makes me think that if I actually find a working one - that it will burn out on me soon - OR - are these "Parts Only" cards the result of gamers Over-Clocking them to the point that they essentially burn out quickly...Any Thoughts? Much obliged, Love your channel - especially all the LaunchBox tutorials - they helped me BIG TIME. Thanks in advance. ~ Jaek

Its still a rx 580, but technically it is the 2048sp version, or gme. Kinda like the rx 590 gme. At least they kinda fixed the cn model names later when they released the gde and recently the gre.

I have done many builds in last 12 months using that same RX580 2048SP 8GB GPU ... the true 2048SP RX580's work quite well even with lower-end CPUs such as the Ryzen 3 4100 or Ryzen 5 3600. I think using the Ryzen 5 5600 might be overkill for this GPU. Even with the RX580+Ryzen4100 combination, can play many/most games at 1080P high settings w/ 60+ FPS. The primary risk is that driver support for the RX580 has stopped.

A lot of Chinese rx580/rx5600/rx5700 it's just used gpu from XFX/saphire/etc after cleaning and new fan and cover
This is loterry - it can work for years or die after month. Nice cheap option, but know risks too

Its all about the games you play. The games I play a 1660 Super is enough and its going to be enough for me for a long long time. Games like HD2 are rare these days. But if you run into a AA game you need more power for grab something off ebay.

the 580 2048SP is a cut down version, as the name suggests, has 2048 Stream Processors instead of the regular 2304, now this is not any kind of sketchy bios flash, or any 570 (well it IS a 570 but from AMD themselves instead of being flashed by some sketchy rando), but an official product released by AMD exclusively for the chinese market, sellers get ahold of those and resell them to the rest of the world, but since it's an official AMD GPU that's why you can easily get drivers for it from AMD's website and software since it's legitimate, it's not that the seller is falsely advertising it as a 580, but it is AMD themselves that officially sold it under that name, as 580
