  • Hey guys! I would have never thought I would like flying a helicopter this much but the Mi-24P, NATO reporting name Hind-F, has really showed me how much fun a helicopter can be in DCS World!
This module has definitely seen a lot of hype in its build up to release because its the first attack helicopter in DCS World as well as a rare Soviet & Russian origin full fidelity module!
While there are definitely some issues with the helicopter relating to its new Petrovitch AI system and multiplayer multicrew issues it is a very complete product and if you plan on staying in the backseat I definitely think this module is worth the price on release!

Hey guys! I never thought I would like a helicopter as much as I love the Mi-24P! For you fixed wing guys, I definitely reccomend checking her out! There's definitely issues with the AI and some flight model bugs but other than that its a very solid and visually beautiful module!

But the Blackshark's difficulty is what made it my favorite. The Blackshark is insanely stable yet, only does what it wants to do. The weapons are fun and easy to fire but just getting to the enemy is a challenge for some on the Blackshark. The Hind for me just feels to easy to fly. • @Rokaize

Been flying the mi24 a ton since it hit early access. A few things.
    1. Petrovich is still very much a work in progress. He doesn’t identify vehicles, hel simply say “tank”. Which could mean anything from a pt76 to an abrams.
He also doesn’t distinguish between friendly and enemy vehicles which is immensely frustrating in CAS missions and you must be extremely careful as to who you have him target.
He also struggles terribly with identifying targets in low light. Forget sunrise or sunset missions. He literally cannot see any of the targets on the ground and you can fly as close as you want. He still won’t see them in order to target them.
He also won’t warn you of missile launches from manpads or help you land like a real hind gunner would do. He won’t even tell you if he hit his target or not.
    2. The mi24 is famous for its durability. But it isn’t invincible. The hind is designed to take fire from the front. The tail boom and tail rotor aren’t armored. The cockpit glass is only armored in the front of the pilot and gunner. The pilot and gunner wear a huge and very protective helmet to protect themselves from rounds entering the side cockpit glass.
Even then, the frontal armor is only really meant for at most 23mm. Can it protect you from 30mm? Yeah, a bit. But it is not at all designed to be taking hits from large caliber weapons
Even if one of your engines fails the other will automatically pick up to compensate. The hind is perfectly capable of making it back to base with one engine. Or in some cases even complete its mission.
Check the panel near the bottom left of the cockpit. Near the landing gear switch. It has the backup systems including the backup hydraulics and the emergency backup landing gear lever. The hind has backups for basically every system. Making it exceptionally good at resisting catastrophic damage.
Near the fire extinguisher panel is the fire extinguisher control switches. There are many of these and they work well. No reason your hind should be on fire for more than a few seconds until you hit the correct switch to put out the fire.

The Mi-24 has been a good EA release, mostly because they already had a lot of systems already from the HIP, and because its an old tech. They should focus more more of these older planes and chopper releases because its easier to get them out of EA, like the Mi-24 I doubt it would stay in EA longer than a year, and keep modern jets development longer so they avoid F-16 releases.

Awesome as always, thank you! Just a few tipps I already learned: The map is just a piece of paper the pilot can switch out. No rolling background. The only moving thing is the marker I think.
In the startup it seems to be better to let the "AIRSPEED SNSR TO DOPPLER" switch in off position as it is a backup system, the navigation on the map seems to be way off with this in on position. Autopilot is not working correctly with "AUTOSTOPS" switch in off position. To seal the cockpit the wheel has to be turned full counter clockwise and the warning beside it goes off after a few seconds.

The Hind hasn't dampened my desire for the Kiowa or Apache, but it really does scratch that itch for strafing things on the ground, with the guided missiles easy to use and nice for squashing AAA. It is straightforwards to use as well so it's nice if you don't want to think too hard about things.
As a background I spend quite a lot of time scouting in the Gazelle L. Which is great and flying with others I'll probably still fly it a lot but it's only really good for strafing unarmed vehicles and only one or two afvs. It gets cut to pieces really easily which isn't great so it really can't operate alone, so I get frustrated when I get the uge to go strafing in a helicopter. The M is cool but the laser rangefinder's broken and you have a 50m safety buffer between your range and the range of barrel launched ATGMs so where you have to hover stationary often you just get killed ow with the Gazelle M facing off against tanks.
On the Hind you can still jink as you're deploying missiles, which is nice (although obviously you have to stay still as possible as it gets close to give best chance of a hit). So it's nice to go to a mission site and blast it to bits without help.

Hello Spudknocker, I found Hind a little easier to fly than Gazzelle, since the latter doesn't have a trimmer at all and is much lighter. But the important thing is, how to set up and tune axis, especially for the rudder input. What about the curvature and saturation? Rudder input can't be over-sensitive since it makes flying at low speeds a real challenge.

For those wondering, the 'CCIP' is done with AoA,Alt, and Speed. If you are erratic in your approach it will be inaccurate. You want to put the Cross hairs on your target, and hold it there until the Yellow light on the opposite side of the green, turns on. That is 'Authorized to fire light'. ALSO Spud is VERY scared of a blade stalls, but you can go WAY faster and be MORE AGRESSIVE than he was. It is not like the Huey's VRS, the Heli will simply begin to ROLL to the right(@350), and all you have to do is Input right rudder, and keep her level. Be calm, Even if you ignore her and roll Her over. Keep the blades level, Keep the nose level as gently as you can, and the engines will probably die, but if you glide for JUST afew seconds, they'll wind back up and you are good to go. The Mi24P is just as tough as the A10C

from what i heard, most hind pilots had their gear down due to the fact when they needed to do emergency landings, now the problem was is that when it was up it took too long to get out, so having your gears down would most likely be better as you wouldn't have much of a hard landing. I can't quite remember, but i do believe there were versions that had the gear stowed remove.

    Mixed feelings about this.
The Hind is a brutal machine and the current features are enough to keep us entertained for hours and hours. Didn't really notice any big glitches apart from a glitchy trimmer and unresponsive Petrovich.
    BUT
The lack of a campaign, the shallowness of the CMS system and the bare tutorials don't really feel like it's worth the full price. I suggest everyone to play the free trial and decide.
It will become amazing though, that I'm sure of.

It's on PC only and you can test every aircraft including this one for 2 weeks. PC has to be somewhat decent but you can do it on like a 4-5 years old gaming machine if you keep the settings low. Also it's almost impossible with mouse and keyboard only and hard with a controller - made for joysticks. Maybe you can borrow one - lots of older gamers still have one from back in the day ^^. If you got that I'd give it a try. Pick a cool aircraft, watch some CZcams tutorials, try to replicate it. It's more like learning an instrument like a piano or violin than your usual videogame that can be understood in a minute but also much more rewarding.
That said, Microsoft Flight Simulator comes to Xbox in a couple weeks. It's not cool military aircrafts but still a good way to get a feel how it's like to play a serious flight sim. DCS is a bit more hardcore than that even if you put MSFS on full tryhard realism mode but you still see if it's your cup of tea.

This thing will make the apache feel like a f-18 compared to a warbird. Honestly easy to employ in a battlefield situation. Really just point and shoot.
As for the joystick, I really miss my g940 FFB stick. Got that when ka50 first came out. When it finally had to be replaced I missed it for helos. Being able to trim and stick just stayed in position was intuitive. Centering sticks ALWAYS wobble when releasing the trimmer button.

What are you having trouble with ?? other than the AI there isn't really anything extra to be mapped, I have the TM warthog as well, I put Petro AI on the TMS hat and Observe on DMS down. For showing the AI menu I use the pinky button, for looking through the gunners sight I use the missle step button on the side.
I fly in VR so I try and avoid using the keyboard where possiple, I use left ctrl as a modifier and then use my hotas for the extra binds like knee board etc.. These I try and keep the same for all modules.
Flying can quite a be a little tricky , I trim out before the hover check which I find easier. For landings I treat it like the MI8, I have VRS a couple (ok more than a couple!) but now getting the hang on how much I can push the decent.
I think the thing that can be catching people out is the tail rotor, the hind uses pedal dampners so you can get out of wack with pedal movement, you have to be quite slow on the pedals. You can turn off the damper, its under a red safty switch on the front panel, left side (just above the main rotor RPM guage) This then makes the pedals move in time with your own pedals (might help a bit).
