- Today I review the Blue Baby Bottle SL. This microphone is warm microphone with a neutral low end and a transparent high end, with a slightly warmer mid section. If you want a more classic sounding microphone without the overly bright high section, this is a GREAT mid to high end microphone for you.

Watched one video on this channel 2 weeks ago for a mic I'm thinking about getting, now Im subscribed and can't stop watching, love your work.
Thank you so much for this, this is such a fun, and informative review that has all the information for tech-geeks, but also re-stated in a way anyone can understand. *subbed*
I teach at a big audio school. I have an assignment where students record a VO intro for themselves. I hear all the mics all the time. The Blue Bottle SL consistantly sounds better on voices than most condensors I hear. I'm happy to see this review as it is spot on in my humble opinion.
I’m about to buy this, thanks man for the review!!
Podcastage uploads the day after my birthday and before my birthday what is life this is great
Upgrading my Blue Spark SL to this.. Thanks for the great review.
Awesome review, and you have a great voice!
I bought this after your review. It arrived today. Sooooo happy with it. thanks for the review
are you still happy with it?
@@lukasneitzert7898 yeah. We've used it in studio and live. Its amazing
@@OwlAndAntler You've used it live? Wow. How does it sound live? I mean it's a condenser so shouldn't it pick up very much of the room? And for what vocals do you use it? I'm more like a "Baritone" vocalist i'm think but not sure -> Male, not this smoker deep voice but also not an angel like voice. More mid range - both of them. Do you think it can be good for my voice? It's my top pick at the moment.
Awesome video & content as ever :) keep up the stellar work as always!.
Thanks for the video, man. I do hear a LOT more of the room than usual, with this mic.
George O I’m not sure if that the mic or not. I had to get a new computer and I got an iMac which has a lot more glass to bounce audio off of. That could be it. I’ll have to make a video covering that and the desk up to see how the reflections affect the sound.
Good call. Might be more about it's high output, and the fact that it's a condenser vs. dynamic. Did you record you last podcast with the new iMac in place?
Beautiful sound on this one, to my ears. Love it. Makes me want to treat-out a room.
Your voice on this Blue baby bottle SL sound a lot better than any other microphone that you already tested
It looks so cute and your review is great. So thanks for this. Greetz
Been inspired by Bandrew over the years and he has been vital in support of my mic addiction :)
I was inspired to start reviewing mics, this Mic is the first one I’ve reviewed on my channel. I tried to take a little different approach by sharing user reviews and experiences from comments left on the internet. The purpose is to LISTEN to the actual mic itself, while hearing what others have said about it. I’m a huge fan of ratings and reviews, so with my channel I want people to be able to hear the actual mic and also listen to user reviews, so you can tune in safely while driving and help you decide which mic to buy 😊
He has the best videos and the manufacturers should be paying him. After work I watch his videos...
I wouldn’t take money from them but they can send me mics all day long. Haha. I think I’ve burned that bridge with blue by tweeting at them telling them to stop marketing the Blue Yeti as a podcast microphone. Haha.
This review was the final factor in my deciding to purchase the Baby Bottle SL, and I couldn’t be happier. In addition to it looking like it was designed by Spacely Space Sprockets, it also has a very warm, smooth, and balanced sound that’s quite disarming. I had been looking for a very nice quality condenser to use exclusively on spoken word for under $500. Blue delivers on that fully. With its apparent commendable build quality, I hope it will endure for many years with proper use and care.
I too came to conclusion that blue bird is equivalent to U87AI. Rather is too sounds cleaner than U87AI. Watch VS videos.
sounded good sold me on this great video
Nice review bro. Plz do a review on Audient id4
5 years later and I had to pause this at 2:58 because your voice is fucking amazing bro‼️
even tho i got the mic i wanted and needed which pod did an amazing review on it i still come back to see the vids cause they funny as hell
Way out of my price range but that damn mic sounds good! Great review...........
I like the sound of the high pass filter
Hi Podcastage,
Please do a Baby Blue Sl vs Rode NT1.
Keep up the great reviews!!!
You should try the se4400a...Love that mic. Punchy, dry, flat response. Gives everything power.
Thanks for your Extra info about this topics
What do you prefer for singing regular vocals overall the baby bottle or sm7b ?
Theres no right or wrong just which one would you pick up in your preferences ?
I think blue would be more respected by other artists and general public, if it was know for the mic that gamers and let’s players use. I think once you say blue, people instantly think of snowball or yeti. Good review again man.
Blue *is* quite respected in high end audio. They have amazing things like the Blueberry, Kiwi, and Bottle.
Hello! Would you recommend this microphone for a music recording studio?
Hey Bandrew, sorry for disturbing you again
I've seen a photo of your audio setup (behind yourself in the videos) which includes a dbx 286s.
I wanted to ask the reason why you are using the Cloudlifter instead of the DBX to amplify the signal on your sm7b.
Is the cloudlifter better? because I'm thinking of buying a dynamic microphone soon (I hope) but I really don't understand which preamp is the best (in terms of audio quality and money).
If you could take your time to answer, I would really appreciate that, but I really wanna say thank you very much, in any case, for your videos and everything.
Have a good day c:
Hey, Bandrew, what did you study/major in to know all this and why it's important? I plan on going into a field dealing with this so that would help lots! Thanks :)
this is off topic but would you still give a good rating on the neewer phantom power as quality goes ? will it still do the job for my bm-800? Thanks !
Hey, Podcastage, I was wondering what usb mic at 50-ish $ would you suggest? Was looking at Marantz pod pack but maybe there is something better? You also mentioned that knox was quite good.
How long does it take to record/edit/upload one review? I couldn't imagine going through all the tests and then having to go back and sync up the camera audio with the mic audio and getting the dooblydoos in place-AH! It seems like a nightmare!
Translation: I appreciate your hard work, dude.
It can take between 4-6 hours for a single. Writing the outline, recording music and review, importing, editing, creating doobly doo's (from a template), added specs, adding b-roll, exporting, and doing social media for it.
@@Podcastage Means you are all times busy with this stuff. Carry on. Trillions of people love you including me.
Awesome work and super helpful!
quick question: Why is my mic picking up output noise that my headset would usually pick up, and no the mic isn't picking up the noise from my headset.
Got yet another condenser mic review suggestion...the Senal SCM-660.
this mic isn't good for guitar amplifier because it saturate too much? i didn't understand your explanation about it, i felt like it isn't crisp enough for electrics guits or doesn't catch very well the hi freqs? ; another question is: if I use the SM57 and a Baby bottle SL a little far away can work for more tasty sound? in this case they work as team? thank you very much.
Goddamn this is a beautiful sounding mic, thanks for reviewing it dude
Also 50$ says he knocks off all the mics in the background with the box next time
No doubt a U87AI II.
Very interested to hear how the Baby Bottle compares to the Shure KSM32 and JZ V11. From what I can tell, the Blue Bottle sounds a fraction brighter than both the KSM32 and JZ V11?
What are your thoughts on how these mics compare?
Hi podcastage, considering adding this mic to my lineup, I am curious by what you meant concerning condenser mics and room reflections. Are you simply referencing the fact that all condenser mics, being very sensitive, tend to capture room reflection and are better suited to treated studios? I VO/narrate in a good closet, so I think I have the reflection issues largely covered.
Sounds balanced, nice and warm without being too dark, and the sibilance seems to take care of itself on the high-end. I have a Blue Robbie preamp which was $800 at the time years ago (I think I see it for around $1000 now) and although I think Blue makes quality products because that preamp is simply UNBELIEVABLE, it always seemed too "typical" to go for Blue for mics...because they always seem to get mentioned so much, also was never a fan of the look of some of Blue's mic designs...I figured if they look like that, they must be gimmicky, but I can't deny it...just like my Blue preamp...this thing seems like a treat, and I'm interested to see how it sounds on my Blue Robbie.
OK. So did you buy the Baby Bottle?!
Do you have recommendations on a modestly priced mic for voiceovers which doesn’t pick up much background noise? Really like this review! Was considering the Baby Bottle but your comment near the end makes me think twice. 🙂
@podcastage this Vs the Blue Spark for yt voiceover? As that video is a few years old has your testing method changed in that time? so therefore your thoughts on the Spark, or do you still rate it highly?
what is a the best budget microphone for poorly dampened room ?
I love stickers for my laptops and iPads. If it's a pretty sticker(like the Blue one)
Ive just got this mic but I do not know which connector should I use, it only says XLR Connector but is that all I have to know to buy the cable?
Can I use this mic with Saramonic SmartRig and TRRS to TRS adapter to connect it to my DSLR and what quality will I get? And are there mics that I can not use with Saramonic SmartRig (and adapter) on DSLR and why? PS: I would like to know about Saramonic SmartRig and not Saramonic SmartRig+ or some other that is actually made for DSLRs.
Thanks a lot for answering :D You are the best! Greetings from Serbia!
podcastage which blue microphone do u think is best????
I love your channel
where is the small pop filter for this mic? I need it.
Add the Shure 55 to your vote list. I'd love to see it get the Bandrew treatment.
I won’t be buying this anytime soon, but I love the reviews duude!!

Between this mic and ksm44 for vocals??
This one, the neat king bee, or the Rode NT1??
Blue baby bottle Sl vs Warm Audio wa87 r2 ? Which one to choose?
Please make a review for M-Track 2X2 Vocal Studio Pro
i buy this mic today thanks to this video
Have You Tried The Original Blue Bluebird, It doesn't have a grounding issue and has different circitory (although the capsule is the same) which doesn't result in the crunchy high end.
I tried to get my hands on the original but couldn't. I unfortunately bought this and the bluebird right when they pulled the originals, and both the versions I received were SL. =/
Destiny has been using this mic for so long
I wanna buy this mic now.
Don’t quite get the switches (not very experienced), but according to Sweetwater, if you want more high end you go to the middle of the cone, where as you go near the side for more mids.
If you don't quite "get the switches", then you're doing it wrong. They're there for a reason - read up.
I'm stuck and need help. Should I get this or the SF-920. I am an entitled teenager full of angst and I needed a response yesterday. XD
Can you do a review of AKG C314 pls....cause its rare
Mr. Doobly do, do you have bass traps?
Brother when ever i increase my gain there is so much hiss coming, is this the microphone fault? i am currently using Scarlett CM25.
Get a cloud lifter or similar gain booster for clean gain
Great reveiw. What's your take for professional music studio production the mk4 or blue bottle?
Baby Bottle, hands down.
is solid state or tube mic?
Could you do one for the Blue Dragonfly?
Saw your reivew on this and was lucky enough to grab one for 60 bucks off eBay. Hell yeah.
Absolutely amazing find!
@@Podcastage hell yeah haha
how is it that you have all the videos I'm looking for
he plays the game right.
This may be the cheapest Blue mic I actually like. But there are so many other options at that price point as well.
What a nice microphone :)
Is this mic still good in 2024. Its on clearance on guitar center
I wonder if the logitech acquisition will effect the quality of blue mics. Hopefully not...
Dude, that is SO FUCKING crazy! That sounds almost EXACTLY like my blue snowball!
How blues make thier mics sounds so like snowey, I have no clue.
Perfect for videos of Santa, emotionally charged hard rock...
Dude.. how messed up.
It's such a unique mic, and I will never forget having used it
Banging on a keyboard with cherry mx blues
I buy this bad boy 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Which country is built?
Got one today from Amazon...outer middle metal casing moves a little, I heard it's just the build quality today unfortunately.
If you recommend not getting a condenser for voice over, what type of mic would you suggest? I want to put together a setup for recording videos, but can't spend too much cashola.
What type of voice overs are you referring to? And it's not necessarily that I don't recommend condensers for voice over. In professional V/O studios you will find condensers. However, they have fully treated rooms that are relatively dead. If you do not have any treatment in your room that has lots of room reflections (reverb) and you're submitting a V/O take to a customer, they may reject it. Now if you're doing let's plays or podcasts, then look at dynamic mics. They do a slightly better job at background noise rejection due to the slightly reduced frequency response and less sensitive electronics which requires you to be right on top of the microphone.
Gotcha. Dynamic microphone. I am not trying to do anything professional. All just for fun. Any suggestions for a decent, inexpensive mic suggestions?
I actually have a Snowball that I haven't tried for anything but Skype. Maybe I'll see how that does.
So, I have the cheaper version, Snowball ICE. From what I know, it's identical except that it doesn't have pattern selection and the included tripod is plastic. When I have used it on PS4 or Skype, people have actually inquired as to what headset I was using because it sounded so good. I have never tried to record something and play it back, so I can't tell you exactly how good it sounds. The microphone itself feels pretty solid. In a pinch, I could probably use it as a murder weapon. The only real complaint I have is that the included stand feels like a toy, especially compared to the solid mic.
Would you say this is one of the better vocal mics for an untreated room--or would you suggest something else?
definitely will hear the room with this thing, if you’re in a really bad room with reverb i would look into a dynamic microphone
Stuck between this and a Shure Sm7b, I’ll be using it mostly if not always for vocals (singing not voiceover). Any help would be appreciated :)
Hope you got this. You can pick up an sm58 for 100 bucks and have the best of both worlds
Which one did you end up getting ? Im in the same dilema
Babby Bottle vs AT4033a?
Subscribed.
sold !
First and last video watching I’m getting this mic I’ve used the scarlet mic that came with the solo bundle
The cord?
U r from my best in youtube
But i think u should review the Blue Spark SL Blackout version , it is A M A Z I N G , for a mic cost 200$
Is this one usb?
Would you recommend the Spark or this Baby bottle for a female singer?
I have not used the new Blue Spark, but the baby bottle is one of my favorite blue mics.
Cherry blues ftw!!
Sir.. Is there any difference between silver colour and gold colour for this baby bottle??
@Sergey Petrov thank you
@Sergey Petrov is this one little bit brighter or something? Because i keep hearing that the old ones are dark and "boomy", i really like bluebird , but it can be bit harsh and thin sometimes.
What do you think is the best USB microphone for up to $40?
gat your best bet for that price range is the blue snowball.
What wuld be the best recording mic now singingor spoken word for about 350-400 dollalrs
Blue Baby Bottle.
You rock
