It is a coincidence seeing this video. Only last week I ordered two books by Shoda Harada Roshi. "Not One Single thing" and "Moon by the Window".
    Thanks for posting this video.

@Alpine Gaming For me, the most important book by Shodo Harada Roshi is "The Path to Bodhidharma."
It teaches susokkhan breathing in Zazen. This is similar to Katsuki Sekida's bamboo breathing. It is a firm breathing into the hara or tanden.

      Dave Reid - Daly
There is such a thing as EGO..the knowing that there is such a thing as EGO, is the first step in realizing the Ego-less.
Ego is Ego, the true nature of yourself is yourself to know and realize. A cloudy moon--- the cloud is just the cloud, it does not attach to the moon, it only looks like the clouds attached to the moon. The moon remains bright as it should be.

That, my friend, is just philosophical mumbo jumbo....yours is the same voice that is written again and again. Ego was a bridge that was used by its author 100yrs ago. So why rebuild it? Bodhidarma gave me his wu and my hand no longer searches....

Bowing or making prostrations isn't selfless or egoless. It's extreme selfishness, needing to be seen as humble, selfless, egoless.

Watching them all at the communal table is a bit creepy. It almost reminds me of people at some North Korean ritual, each convinced of the cause, habituated in the physical processes. I don't doubt their sincerity, and doing things en masse probably indicates the sacrifice of the ego but...Have you ever seen a group of Chinese tourists following a flagholder around a museum or some notable tourist site? They listen intently to the guide's words and nod, smiling, with an ever-growing hunger for what's being fed them. Click, click go the cameras. They might look at the pictures later or they might not.

If you have no self, who is Harada Roshi?
"no such thing as borders" okay, have Ayman al-Zawahiri move next to your house.
Earlier Zen thinkers & practitioners were nowhere as milquetoast as this guy, especially in Japan.
