Hosted by filmmaker Yujiro Seki, Carving the Divine TV is a series of Q&A sessions with Buddhist scholars and practitioners. These Q&A sessions explore the basic concepts of Buddhism and the history of Buddhism so that when viewers finally watch Carving the Divine they will get the maximum value of the documentary.
Today, I will be entering into the world of Zen. We are going to talk about one of the most popular forms of Japanese Zen, Rinzai Zen. We are very excited to have Master ENen Gomez Daishi from Mexico for this discussion! Master Gomez is a very knowledgeable and passionate practitioner who makes a difference in her students and throughout the world! In the interview I definitely felt her Latin fire in my belly. She will be guiding us through the introduction to Rinzai Zen!
We will be asking important questions such as:
What is Rinzai Zen? What is so special about Rinzai Zen?
How is Rinzai Zen different from Soto Zen?
What is the brief history of Rinzai Zen? Who was Eisai?
What are the practices of Rinzai Zen?
What is the Koan?
What are the benefits of meditation?
How do Rinzai practitioners use Butsuzo (Buddhist statues) in their practice?

ENen Lilian Gomez was born and raised in México City. In 2000, She became a resident of Sogenji Monastery in Japan. In 2009 Shodo Harada Roshi held the opening ceremony for One Drop Zen Mexico. ENen has led the Zendo since: translating sutras, teachings and making Roshi’s strict retreats available for Spanish speakers. Weekly Zazen, sutra chanting practice, and monthly retreats are held at the Merida Yucatan temple.
