- The camper needs some simple and easy curtains - I show how to use inexpensive aluminum rods, comforters and sheets to make insulated and privacy providing curtains. The sofa is here and several other projects are covered in this video.

That couch is a GREAT idea!
Again I admire your methodology of formalizing your requirements, and setting your priorities. Not many people are able to do that.
I certainly agree with you that being able to lounge is a high priority. And who doesn’t fall asleep on the couch?
Thanks for your kind comments! I am making a video about building insulated window inserts (5 layers, reflectix, air gaps, water proof) and really took my time to walk people through every small step of the way. It will be 3 videos and a total of 35 minutes but I am very happy with how it turned out. Anyone who can use scissors will be able to make them. The sofa is wonderful and now with a 60" 4K TV/Monitor it is awesome living!
Very brave to cut up the sofa frame.
I worked as a supervisor at Ashley Furniture for about 5 years, 3 more on the production lines.
You face an uphill battle with that project.
It sure was a bit more challenging that I thought. Fortunately the reinforcement has worked well. I slept every night on the sofa for 4 months and still no creaking.
I was falling asleep looking at the couch 👍🏾
hehehe - I do every night now.
@@timdillen 🙂 yeah I bet all that is missing is the tv watching u lol
A 60" 4K TV/Monitor with entertainment system, gadget garage - all built. Video to come.

Yeah buddy 👍🏾🙂
Great idea for curtain rods! I have been obsessed with finding a holder for my phone or iPad that will tilt as I lie in b ed! Great idea!
Thank you! I have enjoyed the phone holder. I found any screen can be a big screen if you sit close enough and you can get this one very close!
...and my holder came with an ipad holder that can swap out for the phone. Check the listing to find one that has both.
Looks like this one may be your new home eh ;)
Exactly! I hope to make it my home and living in it while I take work contracts.
Very. Nice .. 🇬🇧👍
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Wow! Such a guy with a huuuugggee TV! Lol 😂 I havent watched a tv for years now...tv’s starting to look like oddities 🧐. You are so light years ahead of me. Often the item I needed to test or use wasn’t even on the market until 3-5 yrs later. In the meantime I would design a substitute...but never hacked a new sofa apart! Hats off to you Sir!
Just in case you need it there is a product called fraycheck you apply to raw ends of material to stop fraying. Easy, cheap and effective. Notions department.
Thank you and thanks for the tips! I am making videos fast and furious as I have to work for 3 months starting in January so the ambulance needs to be very prepared for living in through a cold mountain winter. I now have an electric heater and thermostat propane heater so the sofa and a big TV round out my nest.
PSC Camper Conversions Haha.. an emergency nest! I like it. Most interested in how she does in real world conditions. Whaaa happen to the shower Lucy? 😱
At this point will need to join a local gym for the shower part. I don't have the funds to build out the water system. I hope to put in the sink but for now it will just go to couple 5 gallon jugs for now.The shower will probably have to wait till spring.
Very nice! Looking forward to seeing how you adjust the fit of your sofa AND setting up the 60" flat screen. Will be like sitting in the 1st row at the movie theater :D Thanks for sharing ...
Thank you! The sofa surgery will be up Wednesday morning and the TV build will be next Saturday.. I am loving sitting on my sofa in front of my 60" monitor typing this right now on my swing sofa desktop. I wish I went with the 65", I thought this would be too big - I still have some wallspace left.
Will you have the sofa attached to the wall? I totaled my Crown Vic years ago and a two foot 2 x 4 lying on the floor behind the driver's seat became a projectile that almost broke my jaw. During a rollover that sofa may be hazardous to a pet or anyone in the back. Just a thought.
yes - I will need to do it. I have been pulling it in and out for various projects at this point but will be able to bolt it down. Under the sofa is the plywood that is bolted to the stainless steel bins. Should be a good attachment. Thanks for thinking about safety!
That's looking like it was factory made. An if we had a sofa in our ambulance, I would have slept more in it. haha Your smartphone stand reminded me... I was looking at Vat 19's online catalog last night and seen a Smartphone projector on there. Just look up Vat 19 or I could find ya a link if you want. Didn't cost much.
I gotta have my comfy sofa - this came from Ashley and was not terribly expensive. On Wednesday I will post a video of how I modified it to fit over the wheel well. I'll check out that projector. Next Saturday will be the the big TV build video.
@@timdillen Be looking forward to it!
Where did you get that comfy looking sofa
The sofa is from Ashley Furniture. I can't remember the name but it should be on there website. It was one of their cheaper ones but I clearly voided my warrantee when I cut the back part out for the wheel well. I can always rebuild the back corner if someday it ends up having a new life later. Thanks for your comment and for watching!
First!
Yay!
shower/toilet?
First EMS vehicle. How is the fuel bill and are you going to camp or live in it?
It's hard to tell on the gas mileage as there is no filler, you put the diesel directly into the large tank so getting it to the same exact level is hard. Best I can figure from my experience and asking around it should be 12 mgp+/- on highway. I plan to travel some but I work 3 month contracts and will be living in it starting in early January for the next contract.
Why not leave the couch raised and put storage underneath it? Otherwise you will need to add cabinets...
I am trying a different approach on storage in this build. I think people start out with too much storage which promotes bringing too many things. I needed to raise the couch, as it turns out, for air flow. I am getting some condensation. I posted a new video this morning about that. I can still put some lose things. I have brought in everything I need to live, been living full time inside for over a month now. I don't cook much so that helps. I have room to build 2 storage units on each side of the TV but hoping to avoid it. I am fortunate to have lots and lots of outside bin storage.
Oooo, I forgot about that outside storage. Very nice. My old RV sorely lacks in that department.
Do the bins keep the contents from freezing when the interior is heated?
Good question and one that I am working on. So far the coldest night has been 21 deg. I use one exterior bin for food storage and one for my 2 gallon water tanks that I swap out. So far so good. I have put a layer of reflectix on the inside of the door as insulating inside the door had no effect since the doors are one piece of aluminum and the cold/heat just passes around the inside of the door. - quite a frustration and source of condensation on the entrance doors. My hope is that since the exterior bins are partially above floor level and partially below, that they will retain just enough heat to not freeze. This will determine where I put the larger water tanks someday.
In my experience, if a couch is slept on long term it eventually distorts & deforms - and is no longer comfortable.
Not a big deal . . . It can be changed out if that happens.
