I was driving for lyft in Austin a few yrs ago. I get a pick up at a local theater. A husband and wife were all giggly and enjoying themselves after a David Bryne concert. The lady immediately asked me to play This Must Be The Place and I had never heard of it. . Or David... they made me pull over and we watched several CZcams videos of his hits. It was an awesome experiemce jamming out to new music with strangers. I listen to David all the time now. Thanks cute Austin couple!

Ive been buying and listening to music since i was a young kid. I’ve never heard a song that I like as much as the live version if this must be the place from stop making sense. It sounds like no other song that i have ever heard. From the time i was in high school to 20 years later I don’t know if i have ever liked a song that i did not sort of grow out of. I love the song as much today as the first time i heard it.

My uncle gave me a "Talking Heads" album for my 7th birthday back in 1989 and thought it was a catchy record. The more I listened to it the more I understood David, Tina, Jerry, and Chris were amazing together. I asked my uncle where he listened and found out about this group and he said when he was in New York back in the '70s, he heard of this small underground punk group with a weird but smart frontman named David Byrne playing at a hole in the wall club. My uncle passed away a while back and till this day I always listen to " This must be the place". Thx for the gift Uncle Frank!! Miss u..

Indeed! I'm 38.......and whenever I get a bit despondent about getting older, I often remember that David Byrne exists.
People like Byrne(who's 69!) or Reggie Watts(49) are excellent examples of older people who are still TOTALLY young inside. And not in that cringey sad mid-life crisis sort of way. Rather, he just never allowed himself to become a jaded cynical grumpy old man incapable of connecting to the novelty of the present moment. That's a rather rare quality in a person....but every time someone has it, it's inspiring to me. Because getting old honestly....kinda sucks, imo.
Mostly because death and illness(yours and others) becomes inescapably closer. But if I can be as interesting AND interested as David is when I'm 69....I'll be quite ok with getting older. And maybe by then David will still be alive(at 100) and showing the way forward still...
Anyway, I'm rambling....I just love the guy.
If anyone is interested, besides his amazing music career, he's also a great writer. I've only read his books "How Music Works" and "The Bicycle Diaries" but loved them both. He has several more titles beyond that. Definitely worth checking out.
Mostly because David can often come across quite "autistic" when speaking....whereas his writing allows him to fully expound his thoughts in a way where he has more control....and it makes you realize he's a genuinely super smart creative interesting human.
      I'm still rambling, aren't I? Ok....I'll end my Byrne love fest. ;P

I came here to write that but you beat me to it. He's a musical legend and most musicians are well aware of the way he fabricates intricate beats and percussions..they went right to it. The music from this 1981 album and its general meaning has aged VERY well...

"Living in my head" is a nice reference to The Talking Heads, but as far as Americans going through their
shut-downs and lock-downs, as well as social distancing, I'm seeing it as the age of introspection.
I'm seeing many signs of social movement for many social causes all across America,
and it's about time America cleaned itself up.

Okay Killjoy.... ( but you're right... I'm not denying that... and good things will come of it... because maybe Americans are asking themselves, well, "how did I get here?"...)
