"Come Together" is a song by The Beatles, written by John Lennon and released as the opening track of their 1969 album "Abbey Road." Here is some in-depth information about the song:
Release Date and Album: "Come Together" was released on October 6, 1969, in the UK and on October 27, 1969, in the U.S. It is the opening track of The Beatles' eleventh studio album, "Abbey Road."
Songwriting Credits: The song is credited to John Lennon, who was the primary songwriter for this track.
Style and Genre: "Come Together" features a distinctive and laid-back groove, with a bluesy and soulful feel. The song combines elements of rock, blues, and funk, showcasing The Beatles' ability to experiment with various musical styles.
Lyrics: The lyrics of "Come Together" are known for their cryptic and surreal nature. The song includes phrases that seem disconnected, creating a dreamlike quality. The opening line, "Here come old flat-top, he come groovin' up slowly," is iconic and sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics. Some of the lyrics were inspired by Timothy Leary's campaign slogan, "Come together, join the party."
Recording Process: The recording sessions for "Come Together" took place at Abbey Road Studios in London. The production of the song is notable for its use of innovative studio techniques, including the iconic bassline played by Paul McCartney.
Notable Elements: The song is characterized by its strong bassline, unique percussion, and Lennon's distinct vocal delivery. The use of a clavinet, played by Lennon, contributes to the song's distinctive sound.
Reception and Legacy: "Come Together" has been well-received by both critics and fans, often cited as one of The Beatles' standout tracks. The song has been covered by various artists over the years, attesting to its enduring popularity. It has also been featured in movies, commercials, and other forms of media, solidifying its place in popular culture.
Legal Issues: The song became the subject of legal action due to similarities with Chuck Berry's song "You Can't Catch Me." As a result, Lennon agreed to record three songs owned by the publisher of "You Can't Catch Me" to settle the lawsuit.
"Come Together" remains a classic in The Beatles' discography, known for its unique blend of musical styles, memorable lyrics, and timeless appeal.

When the Beatles first came to America, a reporter asked "what would you like to see now that your here" and they said "we want to see Muddy Waters" and the interviewer said in earnest "where is that". At the time, blues was not in the limelight of popularity. It was when the British (music) invasion happened, that made the masses sit up and take note. I kinda think the 60s invented everything that happened in music since then. Good reaction fellas.

The Beatles had their first hit in 1962, came to America in 1964 and broke up in 1970. They put out their first album in 1963 and their last in 1970. They put out 12 pretty amazing studio albums in 8 years. Their style and sound was constantly developing and pushing the limits of rock music - they are considered to be the most influential band in history - their list of innovations (things they did first) in music is a long one .. there are so many things (sounds and recording techniques) we hear and take for granted today in music that you can back track to the Beatles having done first. Anyway their sound went from "Love Me Do" in 1963 to the style of "Come Together" in seven short years .. to delve into the Beatles catalogue is literally a history lesson in how todays (Rock) music became what it is. They did it at the highest level and their music still stands out today 60 years later ...

George Harrison was also the first Beatle to go No. 1 as a solo artist immediately following the band’s breakup. He had a stash of songs saved up b/c Lennon & McCartney were a firewall who rejected many of George’s songs until the last few albums (he was the youngest so they thought George wasn’t ready yet). George was VERY frustrated by this and released some songs on his album “All Things Must Pass” (which includes the classic “My Sweet Lord.” For The Beatles George also wrote “Here Comes the Sun”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” (with Eric Clapton guitar riffs), and “Something” which Frank Sinatra called his favorite song ever.
Fifth Beatle skit was hilarious. Billy Preston was called the fifth Beatle b/c he provided those bluesy keyboard riffs on their later songs just before their 1970 breakup: like ”Get Back”, “Don’t Let Me Down”, and “The Long & Winding Road.”

They wrote another funk classic which Earth Wind and Fire actually improved on- Got to Get You Into My Life! ❤❤❤❤as well as “ A Little Help From My Friends” which Joe Cocker made into a gospel style classic at Woodstock! A must react!
They were very influenced by Little Richard in the beginning and toured with him. He taught Paul how to “ Wooooooooo!”
This is a classic John Lennon number- he’s singing lead here. John loved “ nonsense “ lyrics that were actuallly kind of COOL!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤This was off the iconic Abbey Road album from 1969.
They also worshipped Chuck Berry- they stole the line “ here come old flattop” from You Can’t Catch Me! They even covered a song of his “ Roll Over Beethoven” as well as the Isley’s “ Twist and Shout”! Check out John and Chuck jamming on “ Johnny Be Good” live on TV where Yoko jumps in and caterwauls. The look on Chuck’s face is priceless! Some heroic sound tech mercifully cut her mic! 😂
Paul- a great bass guitar player - said his greatest bass guitar inspiration was James Jamerson of the iconic Funk Brothers who backed every single Motown group! ❤❤❤❤❤
Watch “ End of the Line” by the Travelling Wilbury’s! So catchy.
They ALL sang! George wrote two of the greatest songs EVER:
“ While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “ Something”. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beatles only went to ‘70. They all had solo careers after that. Paul had “ Wings”! Many #1’s!

They are more than just some influential band that started the British Invasion, they are the biggest selling music artist of all time. The Top 10 list (As published by business insider) of the biggest selling music artists of all time as of June 28, 2023 is as follows: #10)Pink Floyd, #9) AC/DC, #8) Elton John, #7) Billy Joel, #6) Michael Jackson, #5) Led Zeppelin, #4) Eagles, #3) Elvis Presley, #2) Garth Brooks, #1) The Beatles.
One other quick note. They didn't lift the entire song from Chuck Berry, John took the Chuck Berry Lyric "Here come a flat-top, he was moving up with me" and changed it to "Here come old flat top, He come, grooving up slowly". That was the extent of it. No other music, melody or lyrics were taken. John Lennon and Chuck Berry were friends, and if I remember correctly, the lawsuit was dropped with the stipulation that John would record a couple of Chuck's songs which John then put onto his solo album "Rock 'N' Roll".

Chuck went easy on the Beatles and didn't ask for money. He knew Lennon who wrote the song was a huge Chuck Berry fan and he was paying homage. All he asked them to do was record two Chuck Berry songs because he knew how many records they sold and the royalties that came from them. They broke up in a few months, but John Lennon fulfilled the commitment on his 1976 album Shaved Fish which were all covers of some of his favorite songs from the 50's including two of Chuck's. Berry was still making royalties from two songs (Roll Over Beethoven and Rock & Roll Music) that the Beatles covered in their early days.

John Lennon formed The Beatles! He brought Paul in. Paul brought George in, and all of them asked Ringo to be the drummer! George wrote and sang at least two songs on each album starting around 1966. I think George wrote about 33 songs. Ringo would sing one song on each album. John and Paul switched lead vocals and wrote most of the songs. Any songs off Rubber Soul (1965), Revolver (1966), Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) and Abbey Road (1969) are amazing. I can't begin to list them here!

The fifth Beatle was the great keyboardist Billy Preston. He joined them on the last two albums, which included this song. So, yes, a brother was the only musician that played with them (Clapton played guitar on one song). The producer George Martin is often called the fifth Beatle because of his incredible influence with orchestral arraignments and cutting edge recording techniques. THe band was very experimental. Within a very short time they moved from the "I want to Hold Your Hand " to multi-layered montages. But you are right about the influences. Their very earliest influences were American Rock-a Billy, but once they came to America, in 1965, they fell in love with Motown. Their album Rubber Soul showed those influences. As others have said, they simply are the greatest band. The odds of four musical genius's coming together (no pun intended) in the same city and time. I was so fortunate to grow up listening to them. They changed the world. They changed my world. I would not be who I am without them,

"Another song?!" Guys, start with their first album, side one, song one, and work your way through ALL of their songs. They were innovators once they broke out of the pop rock mold, there's a reason why we still talk about them today and why you'll know more of their songs than you realize. And give Ringo his props, he had his own string of hits in the early to mid 70s after The Beatles broke up in 1970.

There were few bands specifically writing their own material [the Beach Boys did for sure], and no one was wearing long hair...so they were already innovators before changing from pop rock/touring to studio work, which was ever changing, and as you know they kicked down the door for everyone else. They saved rock and roll from dying on the vine [which was what the adults wanted...(why do you think Elvis was Drafted? Luck of the draw? Hell no... the paranoid government wanted to stop rock and roll, it was a "commie plot...").

Yeah, right on about The Beatles' blues and R&B influence. The adored American B/R&B, covered songs, and met and worked with artists whenever they could. Little Richard bragged that he taught Paul the high "WOO". Yeah, the Beatles covered Twist And Shout on their debut album, which was recorded in one day. John sang it last because he knew he would blow out his voice, and the performance is classic. Matthew Broderick lip synced to it in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. And yes, they did cover Chuck, with Roll Over Beethoven--so fun hearing it sung with a Liverpool accent.
Paul McCartney on bass, and Ringo Star on drums is IMO one of the most underrated rhythm sections in rock. Never flashy or attention getting, but always exactly supporting the song without getting in the way. I often spend entire songs just listening to McCartney's melodious, bouncing bass. I love it.

Seeing as your interested in listening to more of the Beatles here are some more recommendations, split into specific sounds as their discography is so vast and genre-bending.
‘Don’t let me down’ is probably a good transition from come together as they’re quite similar and have that bluesy feel.
If you want straight heavy rock music I’d recommend ‘I want you she’s so heavy’, ‘revolution’, ‘Hester skelter’, ‘hey bulldog’
Some soulful songs are ‘let it be’, ‘oh darling’, ‘hey Jude’
Trippy psychedelic I’d say ‘strawberry fields forever’, ‘a day in the life’, ‘Lucy in the sky’, ‘I am the walrus’, ‘blue jay way’
George has some amazing songs like ‘something’ and ‘while my guitar gently weeps’
Overall, I think the best idea is to listen to some of the songs that have music videos on their channel as they are the most accessible and popular ones

Paul had a band called Paul McCartney and Wings that had some big hits including Live and Let Die which was used in the soundtrack of a James Bond film and later covered by Guns N Roses. After Wings, Paul just used his name as a solo act. Paul had duet hits with lots of big names including Michael Jackson (Say, Say, Say) and Stevie Wonder (Ebony & Ivory). George had hits under his own solo name as well as with the Traveling Wilburys. John had many hits as a solo artist.

“Twist and Shout" is a 1961 song written by Phil Medley and Bert Berns (later credited as "Bert Russell"). It was originally recorded by the Top Notes, but it did not become a hit in the record charts until it was reworked by the Isley Brothers in 1962. The song has been covered by several artists, including the Beatles, Salt-N-Pepa, and Chaka Demus & Pliers, who experienced chart success with their versions.

They did everything first to create the modern music industry. When they came to America in 1963 they got the largest tv viewing audence in American history... shortly after that visit they held the TOP 5 slots in the American Charts... Keep on Rocking guys.

"In late 1969, "Come Together" was the subject of a copyright infringement claim brought against Lennon by Big Seven Music, the publisher of Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me". Morris Levy, the owner of Big Seven Music, contended that it sounded similar musically to Berry's original and shared some lyrics (Lennon sang: "Here come ol' flattop, he come groovin' up slowly", and Berry's had sung: "Here come a flattop, he was movin' up with me"). Before recording, Lennon and McCartney deliberately slowed the song down and added a heavy bass riff in order to make the song more original. The case was settled out of court in 1973, with Levy's lawyers agreeing that Lennon would compensate by recording three Big Seven songs for his next album. A brief version of "Ya Ya" with Lennon and his son Julian was released on the album Walls and Bridges in 1974. "You Can't Catch Me" and another version of "Ya Ya" were released on Lennon's 1975 album Rock 'n' Roll, but the third, "Angel Baby", remained unreleased until after Lennon's death. Levy again sued Lennon for breach of contract, and was eventually awarded $6,795.00. Lennon countersued after Levy released an album of Lennon material using tapes that were in his possession and was eventually awarded $84,912.96. The album was called Roots: John Lennon Sings the Great Rock & Roll Hits."
