if you decide to watch the anime check the one piece fanwiki for the episode guide, the guide is broken down to several categories, the sagas are large arcs combining quite a bit of content and the filler, an unfortunately necessity to keep the anime alive while the manga runs ahead a few arcs, which can be skipped without missing anything as well as the movies, most of which are not critical to the main story. even cutting out the filler thats gonna be a long watch and itll wring everything out of you once you get invested i dont like the art style of the manga, nor do i care for the art style of the anime. im current on both

I recommend the Japanese version for plenty of reasons, but it's really the better VA cast, not to mention that should you ever catch up to current run with ongoing series, you won't have to wait. Some shows take years to produce a dub. I also recommend a guide for skipping filler, because as much as I liked the show, it was actually tough to see as much as I did. I do plan to get back to it sometime.

Luffy really is special. He has to be my favorite anime protagonist for the reasons you mentioned. He is charmingly optimistic, but he's always sincere. THIS is Luffy's true ultimate power. He will never be discouraged. He will NEVER give up on himself or his dream. And he will NEVER give up on anyone else, either. And this sheer self-confidence makes him a walking inspiration to everyone around him and everyone he meets. When Luffy clearly believes in you THAT HARD, you can't help but believe in you that hard, too.
I heard the manga creator was involved in the production of this show, and Luffy’s actor made him laugh. It's nice that things are on good terms like that.
Fun fact: The majority of the stunts for this show were done by the actors, and Mackenyu (the actor for Zoro who has a pretty big pedigree as an action actor in other live-action adaptations) actually started doing training on his jaw muscles in order to be able to hold the sword between his teeth when preparing for this role.
@@user-ow8fd8sv2w I mean, in my opinion Naruto is one of the greats, but not one of the best. For me One Piece is up there with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Nothing in manga and anime comes close to One Piece's worldbuilding and character development. But of course, that's my opinion.
@@leespn4396That's mostly because they build the characters faster, but OP is so long that the characters develop so much, that it ends up feeling like it takes a long time for major developments to happen. OP characters don't often have MAJOR developments, but they're constantly developing, and sometimes people can conflate character development with characters learning new things or realize new things, but that often gets conflated with characters being flat. One Piece has some of the most fleshed out motivations and backstories of any characters ever. Even minor characters have backstories that some authors fail to give their main protagonists.
Like you two, I went into this series blind. I knew nothing more than the names of a couple of the characters. I never watched an episode or read the manga. People around me have talked about it, but I didn't know what they were talking about. Anyway, I found this pretty enjoyable from start to finish, and I cannot wait for season 2. Most of the people in this series are unknown actors to me, and I think they all did a great job. I'm happy to hear fans of the series are enjoying this too. It's too bad that Cowboy Bebop couldn't pull off what this series managed to do.

I was 10 when I found one piece I'm 27 now so from a long time fan I love the live action it's different than the anime but love that it nice to have something new

I am a super fan of this anime and the manga, have been for many years....your faces when you first saw Luffy's power, this is how I know they did a damn good job bringing in new fans...lmfao...I laughed so hard you two are great and you commentate very well together...glad you are enjoying the show, Zoro is my favorite all time character in any anime, but Luffy and him together is like the ultimate bad ass team, can not wait to see you guys react to the next episode....Have fun guys!!!

I've been a fan of the series for 13 years. As cliché as it might sound, it's seriously been one of the things that kept me going for many years. It warms my heart to see people be introduced to this fantastic series. They did a great job at covering the first saga, although the immensity of the mysteries the world has to offer are yet to be shown here. It's such a creative and expansive world. Glad you two are enjoying it :)
I’m happy seeing new people come to the one piece world. Even tho it’s long I promise you it’s still to short for use caught up . The story the journey will take you on an emotional roller coaster but ultimately it’s very interesting and entertaining
The casts really did a great job delivering their roles. As expected from actors/actress approved by OP creator Eiichiro Oda himself. This live action project actually have been plan for years, glad that it turned out this amazing. Can't wait for season 2 that already got the green light from Oda and netflix! 🎉
I first started watching this anime back in 2012, and now, 11 years later, I am still an avid fan and I love this first episode for the exact same reasons y'all have mentioned. I'm very excited for the rest of the season.
I feel like this is manga accurate, because when I watched it, I immediately remembered important parts of the manga and anime that I had read and watched when I was a kid. I've watched all 8 episodes. Only if you say it's better than the manga, no it's not. If you say it's worse, no, it's not. You can't compare them because they have their own interests. So far, this is number 2 the best. Number 1 is still Alice in Borderland Live action netflix series. and number 3, Rurouni kenshin movie 1-5.
That is still a massive compliment! A lot of people that enjoyed the source material are enjoying the show. That means they must’ve done something right! Coming from a comic book reader background I can understand how important it is for people to feel like it’s been adapted with respect and including their favorite elements.
Thank you for mentioning Alice in Borderland. Everyone mentions how bad other anime live actions, which is true, they always fail to mention one that was a success which was Alice in Borderland. A true emotional experience almost 1-1 with the manga
One Piece makes me feel old. I’ve been watching it for 12 years and it was already out for like 12 years before that. I still love it though, great characters. Even to this day they keep getting better and better. Great commentary on this episode!
A lot of shows I have watched recently were grim dark. Not that it's bad, but got kinda samey. One Piece is a breath of fresh air, even though there are some really emotional, heart-tugging moments it is still a really positive vibe. My husband has watched all 1,000+ episodes and I'm just on episode 102 and would drop in to watch when he was on random arcs. It is totally worth to watch, it feels like its own world like LOTR or Harry Potter or Star Wars or Dune. Epic saga, like a modern Oddessy. Glad to see the live action is bringing in so many fans.
Okay, maybe 4th time im watching this reaction as a playlist. I started watching when i was 13-14 and im now 30, what does that make? 16-17 years of following the anime? hahah! Just wanted to say to you guys that you have the most pure reaction out there. I have seen anime fans, and non anime fans of this live action, and no one has done it as well as you guys have. You say that Luffy has this genuine optimism, well.. you guys have a genuine reaction, without judging the universe, the world or anything. You like the acting, the camera angels, the scenery and the art behind the color differance for the emotions of the show. You also keep attention and analize. I wish season 2 was here, just so i could watch you guys react more! It will be epic! :D

This is the first anime's live action that made justice to its source material. Eichiro Oda who is the creator of One Piece was part of the production team, and he was the one who choose Iñqky Godoy as Luffy the main protagonist. So these is the first time that a live action anime made a good adaptation specially because Eichiro Oda's opinions were keep in mind, so he didn't leave to make any changes that could damage the world that he created. Many supposed expert critics criticized the fact that it is too faithful to its source material, however actually it is because its too faithful to its source material that it has been well received not only by fans but also by people that haven't watched the anime or read the manga.
5:10 , the world building in One Piece is always unique in each islands/country Oda show us in the Manga/Anime. There is a video called "The Breathtaking World Of One Piece". There is no spoil about the story , just a taste of all the environment existing in OP that proof Oda made an awesome Manga.

I have been watching the reaction to one piece live action over youtube after finishing the series in netflix, and I love you guys expression and genuine reaction!!
If someone asked me a year ago about anime that absolutely would not work in live action, One Piece would have been at the top of the list. And good god would I have been wrong. They did everything perfectly, casting, keeping the ridiculously over the top designs, even the snail phones ( blanking on the real term for them)
Honestly it’s such a weird feeling but so exciting at the same time! Normally we know something about it like yeah this is a superhero movie or a horror etc but in this case all we had was a name. We’ve been hearing so much about how good it was so we had to check it out for ourselves 😃
I’ve only watched around 80 episodes of the anime before I kind of quit. It just didn’t work for me, even though there were a couple arcs that hit me hard. However, I really enjoyed the Live Action, I actually spent an entire night binging it. I think it’s biggest strong suit is that it doesn’t take itself super seriously. It doesn’t feel dark and gritty, it’s having a fun time. I mean, you can actually see what’s happening in scenes that take place at night! What a concept! The stretch cgi can look a little goofy but genuinely, I think it adds to the charm. The cast look like they’re having a blast. And I believe they did most if not all their own fighting and stunts. There’s a lot of love and passion put into this and while I have a few nitpicks I really hope we get a season 2.

There is so many easter eggs from the manga/ anime but there is also stuff from sbs where Oda answer question or gives us information like the food each Straw Hat likes and dislike. In this scene with Zoro by Oda telling us Zoro hates chocolate because to sweet show he even eat a thing he hates just to make a small child happy.
Welcome aboard guys! New follower here, ive been reading One Piece since i was 13yo, im 2yo now. Safe it to say, i have only nit-pick complaints that dont deserve to be mentioned in the first place. As a 19yo fan of One Piece. My big concern was how people like you, who are going in totally blind, wont have a good time watching it. But that concern has been blown out of the water, as every new fan thst came from this, really loves it. (Soery for the long comment lol)
We can honestly say the way the introduce you to the world was executed very well! We didn’t feel lost along the way or like we were missing important information. But most importantly they kept it fun! This is a joy to watch and I’m so happy for all the newcomers that are able to experience this story and for the long time fans now having a live action adaptation that’s actually good. I love that little detail that when Nami and Zoro first disagree with Luffy they use dfifferent phrases. But when they disagree to be a crew the second time they actually say the same thing :D
Oda really knows how to get new audiences. Since some people are reluctantly to watch the anime or read the manga given its insane length. Turning it into live action with him managing the show is just phenomenal marketing. Oda is definitely one of the greatest artist, writer and businessman

Im genuinely astonished that so many people who are clearly into pop culture media, don’t know One Piece and haven’t even seen the Anime. You guys gotta know that One Piece is one of the very few masterworks of humanity. A story like no else. A vast world that is not comparable to any other fictional creation. And the characters have real hearts and even the villains have a back story that makes you feel for them. But in general One Piece is about freedom, and what it really means to be free. The story will get very serious, meaningful and reflective on real world issues, like slavery, oppression, corruption and politics without being dogmatic. It’s a true masterpiece. Please read the Manga or watch the Anime
It didn't let the spark of original version to die although, they have changed a lot. The biggest reason is the direct involvement of the creator, Oda sensei.
I love how they handled luffys origin and wish more superheroe movies that are more silly in nature would do this. Lurfy ate flubber,became rubber, dont think about, dont question it, moving on!
Hahaha so true!! It's so refreshing to watch a character like Luffy be handled this way - he's optimistic, believes in himself and in others and is just overall awesome!!

the snail phone is called den den mushi in japanese, they have telepathic abilities that connect to each snails and can mimic the voice of a person...

Netflix actually agreed that the show wouldn’t come out of production until Oda was happy with it - he did make them reshoot some parts.
Oda apparently nixed a Zoro x Nami romance the producers REALY wanted. But he was like “no! This is not a rom com!”
Oda-sensei actually 'crowned' Iñaki with the straw hat. Which basically means he is royalty now.

I've been a fan of the series for 13 years. As cliché as it might sound, it's seriously been one of the things that kept me going for many years. It warms my heart to see people be introduced to this fantastic series. They did a great job at covering the first saga, although the immensity of the mysteries the world has to offer are yet to be shown here. It's such a creative and expansive world. Glad you two are enjoying it :)
I’m happy seeing new people come to the one piece world. Even tho it’s long I promise you it’s still to short for use caught up . The story the journey will take you on an emotional roller coaster but ultimately it’s very interesting and entertaining

The casts really did a great job delivering their roles. As expected from actors/actress approved by OP creator Eiichiro Oda himself. This live action project actually have been plan for years, glad that it turned out this amazing. Can't wait for season 2 that already got the green light from Oda and netflix! 🎉
I first started watching this anime back in 2012, and now, 11 years later, I am still an avid fan and I love this first episode for the exact same reasons y'all have mentioned. I'm very excited for the rest of the season.
I feel like this is manga accurate, because when I watched it, I immediately remembered important parts of the manga and anime that I had read and watched when I was a kid. I've watched all 8 episodes. Only if you say it's better than the manga, no it's not. If you say it's worse, no, it's not. You can't compare them because they have their own interests. So far, this is number 2 the best. Number 1 is still Alice in Borderland Live action netflix series. and number 3, Rurouni kenshin movie 1-5.
That is still a massive compliment! A lot of people that enjoyed the source material are enjoying the show. That means they must’ve done something right! Coming from a comic book reader background I can understand how important it is for people to feel like it’s been adapted with respect and including their favorite elements.
Thank you for mentioning Alice in Borderland. Everyone mentions how bad other anime live actions, which is true, they always fail to mention one that was a success which was Alice in Borderland. A true emotional experience almost 1-1 with the manga
One Piece makes me feel old. I’ve been watching it for 12 years and it was already out for like 12 years before that.
I still love it though, great characters. Even to this day they keep getting better and better.

A lot of shows I have watched recently were grim dark. Not that it's bad, but got kinda samey. One Piece is a breath of fresh air, even though there are some really emotional, heart-tugging moments it is still a really positive vibe. My husband has watched all 1,000+ episodes and I'm just on episode 102 and would drop in to watch when he was on random arcs. It is totally worth to watch, it feels like its own world like LOTR or Harry Potter or Star Wars or Dune. Epic saga, like a modern Oddessy. Glad to see the live action is bringing in so many fans.
Love when people gives a chance to One Piece and then they get in love with the history. ❤

Okay, maybe 4th time im watching this reaction as a playlist. I started watching when i was 13-14 and im now 30, what does that make? 16-17 years of following the anime? hahah! Just wanted to say to you guys that you have the most pure reaction out there. I have seen anime fans, and non anime fans of this live action, and no one has done it as well as you guys have. You say that Luffy has this genuine optimism, well.. you guys have a genuine reaction, without judging the universe, the world or anything. You like the acting, the camera angels, the scenery and the art behind the color differance for the emotions of the show. You also keep attention and analize. I wish season 2 was here, just so i could watch you guys react more! It will be epic! :D

Been a one piece fan for 15yrs it's the greatest anime ever made.
This is the first anime's live action that made justice to its source material. Eichiro Oda who is the creator of One Piece was part of the production team, and he was the one who choose Iñqky Godoy as Luffy the main protagonist. So these is the first time that a live action anime made a good adaptation specially because Eichiro Oda's opinions were keep in mind, so he didn't leave to make any changes that could damage the world that he created. Many supposed expert critics criticized the fact that it is too faithful to its source material, however actually it is because its too faithful to its source material that it has been well received not only by fans but also by people that haven't watched the anime or read the manga.
5:10 , the world building in One Piece is always unique in each islands/country Oda show us in the Manga/Anime. There is a video called "The Breathtaking World Of One Piece". There is no spoil about the story , just a taste of all the environment existing in OP that proof Oda made an awesome Manga.

If someone asked me a year ago about anime that absolutely would not work in live action, One Piece would have been at the top of the list. And good god would I have been wrong. They did everything perfectly, casting, keeping the ridiculously over the top designs, even the snail phones ( blanking on the real term for them)

Honestly it’s such a weird feeling but so exciting at the same time! Normally we know something about it like yeah this is a superhero movie or a horror etc but in this case all we had was a name. We’ve been hearing so much about how good it was so we had to check it out for ourselves 😃
I’ve only watched around 80 episodes of the anime before I kind of quit. It just didn’t work for me, even though there were a couple arcs that hit me hard. However, I really enjoyed the Live Action, I actually spent an entire night binging it.
I think it’s biggest strong suit is that it doesn’t take itself super seriously. It doesn’t feel dark and gritty, it’s having a fun time. I mean, you can actually see what’s happening in scenes that take place at night! What a concept!
The stretch cgi can look a little goofy but genuinely, I think it adds to the charm.
The cast look like they’re having a blast. And I believe they did most if not all their own fighting and stunts.
There’s a lot of love and passion put into this and while I have a few nitpicks I really hope we get a season 2.

The fact alone that Oda crowned Iñaki as Luffy is sooo good.

The 2 young men that it zoomed in on during Gol D Rogers execution was Mihawk and Shanks
There is so many easter eggs from the manga/ anime but there is also stuff from sbs where Oda answer question or gives us information like the food each Straw Hat likes and dislike. In this scene with Zoro by Oda telling us Zoro hates chocolate because to sweet show he even eat a thing he hates just to make a small child happy.

Welcome aboard guys! New follower here, ive been reading One Piece since i was 13yo, im 2yo now. Safe it to say, i have only nit-pick complaints that dont deserve to be mentioned in the first place.
As a 19yo fan of One Piece. My big concern was how people like you, who are going in totally blind, wont have a good time watching it. But that concern has been blown out of the water, as every new fan thst came from this, really loves it.

We can honestly say the way the introduce you to the world was executed very well! We didn’t feel lost along the way or like we were missing important information. But most importantly they kept it fun! This is a joy to watch and I’m so happy for all the newcomers that are able to experience this story and for the long time fans now having a live action adaptation that’s actually good. Oda really knows how to get new audiences. Since some people are reluctantly to watch the anime or read the manga given its insane length. Turning it into live action with him managing the show is just phenomenal marketing. Oda is definitely one of the greatest artist, writer and businessman

Im genuinely astonished that so many people who are clearly into pop culture media, don’t know One Piece and haven’t even seen the Anime. You guys gotta know that One Piece is one of the very few masterworks of humanity. A story like no else. A vast world that is not comparable to any other fictional creation. And the characters have real hearts and even the villains have a back story that makes you feel for them. But in general One Piece is about freedom, and what it really means to be free. The story will get very serious, meaningful and reflective on real world issues, like slavery, oppression, corruption and politics without being dogmatic. It’s a true masterpiece. Please read the Manga or watch the Anime

Zoro literally doesn't skip jaw day, in the anime there is a scene where he put a dumbbell in his jaw as a kid to learn the sword
I love how they handled luffys origin and wish more superheroe movies that are more silly in nature would do this. Lurfy ate flubber,became rubber, dont think about, dont question it, moving on!
