      @Freddy H I mean, it was good with Pleasure Island, but after it closed DD lost that spark that it previously had and just became another one of those shopping centres. Disney Springs is a nice blend of theming and shopping centre. I like both DD and DS.

    Gotta love Eisner’s ambition, and while yes, a lot of attractions did get canceled, the 90s were still good for Disney, and we got classic attractions such as Indiana Jones, Test Track, Tower of Terror and Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster

    • @ReviewTyme
      @ReviewTyme  Před 4 lety +1

      Yep even with all of the cancellations the 90's still brought about some of the best Disney attractions of all time, imagine how different the Disney parks would be today if nothing was cancelled and everything was completed to a quality as high as Indy or Tower, it would be spectacular! - Luke

    As a Roger myself I wholeheartedly approve of plans for a separate video about that! It really is crazy how much Roger was in the parks and then...nothin'... I remember when I was young (having grown up in Europe) hearing there was a whole ride dedicated to him and was sick it wasn't in Paris or even WDW!
    The baby herman coaster is a great idea too!! Imagine if they made it today utilising the screen technology they have in Bourne Stuntacular! (obviously cartoon style haha!)

    It would've been cool if they actually replicated the Indiana Jones train scene at Disneyland and he ran on top of the cars. I like the current show at DHS but the Disneyland version sounds epic. Didn't know that hearse in front of the HM was meant to be used for the show

      During 2008 there was an Indiana Jones promotion at Disneyland called "The Summer of Hidden Mysteries", during it Indy would randomly appear on the balconies of Adventureland buildings and fight with thugs, it would have been awesome to see the train stunt as part of that promotion! - Luke

    The over projection now makes sense with a project in Texas. Disney bought the Renaissance fair in Plantersville then tried to buy (quietly) hundreds of acres around the ren fest. When the purchase was announced in the mid 90's rumors swirled about a Disney park in Texas. Since then, Disney has officially denied building in Texas several times.

    Keep an eye on the upcoming TRON ride at WDW. Part of what makes TRON spectacular at DLShanghai is the gorgeous parabolic canopy. Before the Park's closure in March, there was no canopy visible at the WDW construction site, just a box enclosure for the ride. I am hoping that ousted CEO Bob Paycheck didn't scrap that canopy design element whilst he was head of the Parks.

    I'd take Tower of Terror and Indiana Temple over all the cancelled rides (which is ironic as neither of those were in the original announcement). It's just a shame the new parks didn't live up to what was promised.

    The dark ride Little Mermaid attraction sure sounds much better than the one in DCA. Actually, Dick Tracy was a box office success, just not the one Disney had hoped it would be. I'm surprised Gigantic wasn't mentioned. It's cancellation is notorious.

    Roll introduction, say “Euro-Disney,” and close with end-credits. Somebody spent way too much time on this episode. :) It’s bittersweet Eisner saved Disney and then nearly killed it again. I’m baffled why he chose Paris, ask any American or Frenchman if it was a good idea, and they’re both going no. We’ve still got baggage from WWI and WWII.

      Actually, that would be Iger and even Chapek. While Eisner was by no means a perfect CEO for Disney, he at least for the most part tried his very best, was driven by quality, passion, innovation, creativity, imagination, and especially originality, kept identity politics and socialist propaganda out of the entire company's products and content completely, and respected Walt Disney and Walt's legacy unlike both Iger and Chapek.

    I think Disney jumped the shark a while ago. They seem too be running down Disneyland and lost any real interest in it. And California Adventure is just a sad mess that I would not even bother to visit if I went back. Disneyland is a prime example of under investment and seems to be becoming more a small child's theme park then I've that encompasses all ages. Both my partner and I have said after watching a number of programmes on the place we don't think we would bother to revisit again.

    Disney parks today lack the magic they had prior 2000. New areas and theming are making them lose the charm they had before and are making them look like generic parks with movie franchises. For example, changing Twilight Zone theming for Guardians of the Galaxy and California Screamin for The Incredibles, adding the Star Wars and Toy Story areas to Hollywood Studios; don't get me wrong, I love all those franchises, but they're making Disney parks lose the originality that made you feel like you were literally entering a magic land. The essence of the Imagineers is lost nowadays.

    Sadly the 2020s decade at Disney is turning out to be another dud decade. All these wonderful and much needed new projects and improvements announced for EPCOT, a very dated and uninspiring park, are at the brink of cancellation due to Covid19 issues. And this year marks Disneyland’s 65th anniversary with absolutely no special celebration announced for it. Likewise for Walt Disney Studios Paris park, where some of the planned expansion appears to be in the chopping block. Likewise for Hong Kong Disneyland expansion where the Marvel expansion seems dead in the water. Just very sad. All of it.

    • @TjSamson
      @TjSamson Před 4 lety

      Yeah, I think 10th, 25th, 50th, and 60th. Most ten year anniversaries may see some merch, but that’s it. I think Japanese parks are the only ones that celebrate every single year, with 5th and 10th milestones having more merch and celebrations.

      Don't be surprised when the 2020s also sees the Disney company getting broken up by Congress under antitrust like Teddy Roosevelt smashing Rockefeller's oil empire with Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, ABC, etc. being taken away and leaving Disney left with only their homegrown assets such as the animation studios, the parks, Walt Disney Pictures, the cruise line, Disney Theatrical, Disney Channel, etc.

    You have a tendency to be a bit of an Eisner apologist. Quite a few videos now you seem to shunt blame away from him at a steady rate, very little is ever truly his fault according to your videos.
    Now I'm not saying he was awful or incompetent, he had some great ideas early on that worked well, and he was a pretty personable, likeable face of operations, but as time went on it was clear he was way off (Disney Quest, Euro Disney process). Not that Roy and a lot of the other board members shouldn't also face criticism for signing off on these very shakey ideas.
    But to me it seems dishonest to paint Eisner a down-on-his-luck guy, it was as much his decisions, as it was the changing culture and climate of things at the time, and that shouldn't be underplayed. There's a difference between taking a chance that seemed good and didn't work out, and making poor calls.
