"Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer"
Camino De Santiago Day 41: Portomarin to Palas De Rei, Spain
    24 km (14.913 miles)
Sometimes the emotions hit in awkward places. Like in a crowded cafe.
Today we met more fresh pilgrims, one who asked me about my pretty red bird ornament tied to my backpack. I explained to her that I purchased it in St Jean Pied De Port, France at the beginning of our pilgrimage 41 days ago. I've been carrying it this entire journey and I plan to place it on my twin sister's tree when I return home. She was teary eyed and asked if she could take a photo. I obliged and we walked on.
No real emotion from me. I just continued to walk all day like every day for the past 41 days.
We also facetimed our son and daughter-in-law in Hawaii as well as our daughter at home. It was so motivating and necessary to see them.
We laughed as we witnessed a car walking a dog. I've never seen that before and it was hysterical. That dog loved car walking!!
By the time we reached Palas De Rei, we could hear thunder approaching. Our stay for the night, Casa Leopoldo, is a renovated farmhouse previously owned by the host's grandfather and is absolutely stunning. Think vibrant green, European, hydrangeas, and dollhouse all wrapped into one home. We were assigned the horse suite. I'm in love.
We explored the home in all it's unique corners, and we're ushered out to the garden where an elderly lady showed us a kiwi vine growing above our heads. She spoke to us in Spanish, most of which we couldn't understand, but we enjoyed the conversation nonetheless.
Our stomachs growling, we headed towards the nearby bars/cafes down the street and quickly found a tapa bar. The prices in Spain are so less expensive than at home. While eating our food, the conversation turned to Danielle and all the emotions suppressed from earlier in the day returned. Trapped tears flowing down my cheeks.
Danielle Lynn was my summer. My 70's soundtrack. Her voice made my spirit dance. I miss her summer breeze. Maybe tomorrow I'll listen to 70's music.
La brisa de verano me hace sentir bien. 💙
*I highly recommend Hostal El Pedrino in Portomarin. We did not stay here but the kindest woman called me in this morning after she noticed my struggle while walking and had me sit down a bit. This Godfather inspired modern guesthouse was warm and inviting especially with it's caring host watching for weary pilgrims on the road.
